[N30 S!NGH]

Anyone who is interested in punjab politics..please give your input- who should/ shouldn't win this election? why and why not? who will win this election in punjab? why?


At this point, I really want congress to win this year election, only because - there are predictions land prices will go up if they win and we wanted to sell our land this year. Some people may call this selfish act that i m putting my personal interest front instead of people of Punjab interest... There is no question, It is an selfish act. I will explain my reasoning behind why this sudden change?

Just last summer, after speech of manpreet badal of people's party in Toronto, Canada. I was excited to see- new ray of hope in punjab, thought to myself- things could really change in punjab for good..despite of manpreet badal leaning on communism( i have no problem with modified communism as its close to socialism = sikhism), i felt he and his party is definitely breath of fresh air and many living abroad agreed..i was steady fast to vote for ppp putting public interest first over my personal interest. But things went from fair to worse in punjab, his two right hand men crossed floors, people in punjab failed to understand - need for change in punjab and in most popular surveys in punjab- people party of punjab had little if not no support whatsoever from public of punjab.

So if public of punjab are so spineless, blind, self-centered, failed to see a need for change for same ol' crap, why should i (born in calcutta, raised in toronto) give a damn?

Everybody in punjab poitics are corupt b*stards, sorry to say. Everybody is playing a game behind the scenes including Manpreet. He will be huble until he wins at which point things go back to the same old.

Just look at the number of candidates who have turned there backs on there respectives parties just because they are not given the ticket in there area. People are after there own status and bling blig and nothing really changes day to day life. They have made a few fly overs in punjab, but the roads to the villages are the same old crap. Electricity is not reliable nor is drinking water among so many other basic amenities.

All the politicians talk big but none deliver anything other than favours to those who supported them and if you have a problem and in your are a person from another party is elected, they won't help you.

It is all a game. You see most people from the villages don;t know much and very easily woowed by these politicians. Nobody asks them real questions, just lip service both from candidates and the people. Nobody really gives 2 sh*ts, except those that have some alterior motives.

I really don't trust anyone in punjab politics - not sure why anybody would want to either............

Election process in India is not something like you launch a party and entire public comes to support you,it is such a hard work which takes years with no gurantee of success.I was watching a programme in which one journalist was saying that whatever issue's Manpreet Badal is raising more of concern to elite educated urban people whose share in vote percentage is very small
so with this type of support you cannot make any big impact.Also let people also see whether the Manpreet Badal is a serious opponent or he is just a person with vote cutting party as it is an old trick in Indian politics when congress or any other party indirectly create a party so that party eat the votes of opposition

I hope PPP win by a landslide. That way the Badals wont be able to run off with all the NRI donations they've collected recently. Also a term of a left wing communist party will hopefully galvanise Sikhs and other Punjabis into realising how screwed they are politically. What Punjab needs is a strong Nationalist Party which has no connection to Congress, BJP or the Badals. A party which acts along Socialist principles in the Punjab but approaches Nationalist principles when dealing with the central government. A party that will increase foreign investment (from countries which wont attach strings) and not be in desperate need of NRI investment. A party that will prevent foreign (including Non-Punjabi Indians) individuals and multinationals from buying farm land and rural areas. A party who tear up the old school system and strive to give the best. A party which supports easing of gun laws and encourages Punjabis to buy guns to protect them from the police/army/foreigners. A party that believes in infrastrucure, more infrastructure and even more infrastructure. When building this infrastructure it looks to give the best, not compared to other Indians, but compared to the 1st world. Clean water, free education, a renewable energy infrastructure, good transport, an accountable police force, death sentences for corruption and most of all - opportunity for all Punjabis.

Personally, I think it's better diasporic Sikhs distance themselves from the politics back home and try and strengthen the community where they are.

Dal Singh Bhaji, they need to do both, strenghten here, but also try to influence the indian sikhs to better themselves.

Fair point. Those guys back home seem to be lacking in imagination though. I mean, we are the richest state in India (apparently) and we DO have SOME seriously hard working men. But even with these advantages we can't seem to create a strong, diverse economy back home. Maybe down to lack of imagination?

Yes and a lack of admission of failure, as well. When policies arent working its a political suicide to say we messed up, and we gonna try something new.

But personally i would like to see Akali DAl Amritsar win, or least beceom a major player in Panjab politics again.
