    Sleep during meditation

Hanji, actually I have recently started to understand this concept of sleep and sunn and as per my understanding there's a thin line between the two. Here are the links that may clear the difference for u as it's really important for sangat on this path to understand. Twist this as per Gurmat and let's do Japp before sleeping. I am trying on this though easier said than done

Its sickening of what is happening in the outside world especially for the young victims who are from dysfunctional families where nobody has tried to understand the victims thoughts or state of mind. Then they end up in this web of hell.

I agree that evil must be confronted and challenged. I think some active members of our quom has been doing this admirably for a while now - in spite of massive challenges and powerful institutes constantly trying to undermine and obfuscate their efforts . I think forming alliances like you suggest is a very bad idea, because we have no idea of the motives and backgrounds of the external people who might act like allies but have other agendas. And I can guarantee some of those who will latch on will be informants planted by various agencies (including some sections of the police) inimical to the Sikh community trying to address this issue. It would only take one or two rotten eggs to completely defame us and set back the progress we have made. Then the issue just gets sidelined and dismissed as one only extremists are concerned with, whereas it is clearly a matter many people in the panth, from all sorts of backgrounds are concerned about. From your average mona to Amritdharis and all the spectrum in between. This is a very common tactic that has been used against us for decades now - we have to be wise to it. The ideal situation is a cultural shift amongst our entire community in problem nations. What we really need to aim for is awareness and vigilance that starves the predators of their victims. We need girls to not get themselves into these situations in the first place! This can only be achieved by education; not only of those who might be targeted but also wider family members in terms of how they raise their children. We also need to tweak attitudes which are so lost in the rat race for material gain and success (understandably) that they do not feel the sense of panthic ekta that they should, and only act concerned when problems hit them close to home. Often such people will sweep issues they have experienced within their families under the rug in order to keep up some facade of being successful and not having problems. Right now we frequently have this coy, prudish attitude towards the matter (although this appears to be slowly changing). Some family elders seem reluctant to broach the issue because it is contentious and perceived to be a 'dirty' subject they would rather avoid. This has to change, and I believe it is changing - though it could be faster. Another key issue I think we need to address concurrently is the taboo matter of sexual abuse within our community, within families or family friends. I think Bhai Mohan Singh of the SAS has done good, pioneering work in this respect. These things are vastly underreported in all communities, especially conservative ones. In addressing external predators we shouldn't forget sweeping up under our own beds [manji] (as the Panjabi saying goes).

    Quotes from AMRIT BANI

Brother Still Nascent, the Bani when refers to 10 doors, though some may take those doors as the different chakras(energy centers) we have within us, I believe the doors mentioned are as follows: 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 nostrils, mouth, and the 2 lower apertures; being the tenth one, the one referred as the 3rd eye, or above and between the eyes. You see, through these 9 apertures our attention, our consciousness, is dispersed/scattered in the mayavee nashvant creation, but it is by concentration at the 3rd eye, that we collect our consciousness and enter the spiritual realms and move upwards, towards Sach Khand where Waheguru the Highest Consciousness resides. Though once in the subtler spiritual realms, one can move freely there where one is instructed as per different techniques or means of concentration in any of the chakras right from the base of the spinal cord upto the one in the top of the head. To clear a bit more the point of ten doors, following are some verses from the Bani, special attention those in black mai har har naam adhaar rameeaa | I take the Support of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. iKnu plu rih n skau ibnu nwvY gurmuiK hir hir pwT pVeIAw ]1] rhwau ] khin pal rehi n sako bin naavai guramukh har har paath parreeaa |1| rehaao | I cannot live, for a moment, even for an instant, without the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukh reads the Sermon of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause|| eyku igrhu ds duAwr hY jw ky Aihinis qskr pMc cor lgeIAw ] eaek girahu dhas dhuaar hai jaa kae ahinis thasakar panch chor lageeaa | In the one house of the body, there are ten gates; night and day, the five thieves break in. Drmu ArQu sBu ihir ly jwvih mnmuK AMDuly Kbir n peIAw ]2] dharam arath sabh hir lae jaavehi manamukh andhulae khabar n peeaa |2| They steal the entire wealth of one's Dharmic faith, but the blind, self-willed manmukh does not know it. ||2|| The five thieves referred as robbers, is because, the wealth of Nam as well as other attributes are within us, but, by being scattered in the mayavee creation through the 9 doors, or apertures of the body, throughout the whole day, one remains unaware and devoid of that True wealth, thus goes as a paupper at the time of his/her departure from this world. That is why Guru Jee, tells us to enter through that 10 th gate or door, with the concentration of Nam, Gurparsad, as seen in my post above and enter into the spiritual realms, and move towards the direction ( Nanak Nam jahaaz hae, jinee chareeya se utareeya paar)of Sach Khand, the only permanent and eternal abode of Supreme Reality. Exactly. We cannot copy them. Mahapurush have different roles and duties in this world, they are sent by Nirankar Himself for certain objectives. We as householders need proper sleep, diet, exercise, and kirat to fulfill our duties and roles and to meet Nirankar ji.

    Denda De Lenda Thak Paahe

Well brother curious man jee, from what I understand, is that, the all powerfull Waheguru Akal Purukh, will continoussly keep satisfying all our desires which keep on arising without any stop, for He is as great as only He is. Eventually, we may get tired of asking, but He Sachay Patshah, never ever gets tired nor short, even if the whole of the "kaenaat" gets together and keeps asking countless times .... Denda de : The bountless Giver, nonstop keeps on giving whatsoever is asked from Him lenda thak paahe: to the extent that in the end, the receiver gets tired of asking and receiving. SSA.

    The Five Deadly Sins

taken from sikh student member in england. The Five Deadly Sins In Sikhism there are 5 sins which are deadly. They are considered deadly because the prevent you from living a truthful life and getting closer to God. It is therefore in our best interest to help get as far away from these sinful states of mind, as possible. The five deadly sins are: • Kam Lust • Krodh Anger • Moh Attachment • Lobh Greed • Hankar Pride Kam –- Lust The biggest problem with lust is that people find it hard to understand. Before we start. let me differentiate between love and lust. There is a thin line between the two. One is a wonderful state of mind that can bring you closer to God and one is a seemingly-wonderful state of mind that will put distance between you and God. Love is great, as a Sikh you are meant to love everybody to the best of your ability this is because God resides in everybody (including animals); so by loving everybody you love God. In the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Maharaaj there is a lot of imagery whereby you are the wife and God is the husband. By total dedication to your partner will you be able to realise him. “If she effaces her ego, then she merges in her spouse.” Rag Suhi Ashtpadian 1st Guru. In Sikhism loving relationships are where you help each other to get closer to God. “O, Friends! Give me your blessing so that I may attain union with my master.” Kirtain Sohila, 1st Guru Verse 3 So do not fear from loving people, it can only bring you benefits. However you must differentiate between love and lust. Lust can take over your mind, and get you into sticky situations. If you ask most rapists why they committed the crime, they will often say “I couldn’t help it, I couldn’t control myself” Make sure that lust does not overcome you and get you into a sinful state which will be hard to get out of. By lust I mean carnal sexual desires . The desires that do not involve loving etc... One must be careful not to step over the line. “Oh lust, thou landest the mortal in hell and makes him wander as many species” Gauri 9th Guru Krodh –- Anger Anger is a sick state of mind. Like lust it can take over your mind and get you into sticky situations. One might ask, “Well what about the 10th Guru and the early Sikhs, look at all those people that they angrily killed on the battlefield..” I tell you this, the true members of the Khalsa killed nobody out of anger only out of love. You see it is fear that leads to anger, the Khalsa fears nobody but God, and therefore they have no anger. One will often have to stand up for oneself in one sense or another. When you do, make sure it is not out of anger, but make sure it is because you have to fight for Justice. If you look at all those martial arts movies, you see the Buddhist kick everybody’s head in. He does not do it with anger, he is completely at peace with everybody (and himself). When he fights he does not fight with anger in his heart, but purity. When you have to fight, ensure God’s name is residing in you and fight with all your heart, do not lose the battle before you start by giving your heart up to anger. Moh –- Attachment Moh is attachment to worldly goods or Mammon (known as Maya in Punjabi). One must be careful not to get caught up in chasing after money or material goods. Sikhism is not like other religions where it asks you to drop everything and become a hermit with no clothes or money. Sikhism encourages a household life (a ‘Ghristi Jivan’). Ultimately everything good that you have got is through God’s grace, enjoy it and be grateful. However you must not get so caught up in living your materialistic lives that you forget the Ultimate Objective – God. Lobh –- Greed Greed, one must not get caught up in gathering worldly things. You must be able to at the snap of a finger, renounce everything and follow the Lord should the call come. Hankar –- Pride This in my opinion is the worst sin of all 5. This is where your ego gets in the way of God. If you are anything like me, then whenever you do something good, you immediately think good of yourself. This essentially is a load of rubbish. The only reason something good has happened to you, is because God had graced you, it is through no cause of your own. If anything bad happens to you it is your fault, then why do we blame God? Until we can realise that there is something greater than us, then we will not be able to advance. Pride or your Ego is the worst of the sins, renounce it you are nothing compared to the Lord. “If a man destroys his ego and by the Guru’s grace receives the Lords love, then he attains Supreme status” Bilaval Mahalla 4th Guru Ashtpada “The Vedas proclaim aloud that the Reverend Lord likes no pride.” Mohalla 3rd Guru Conclusion It all sounds very harsh. According to what I’ve written above, I’m definitely far from God and am going to be condemned to thousands of rebirths. However God is all loving and all forgiving. If you do do something wrong, then ask for his forgiveness and I promise that he will forgive you. Every-day we commit hundreds of sins, God is all loving and will forgive them all. Just repeat his name with all your mind, body and soul. “If your hands, feet are dirty you clean them with water. If your clothes are dirtied with Urine, you use soap. If your mind is filled with sins, colour it with the Name of God.” Japji Sahib 1st Guru.

Baba Nand Singh ji was very high ' kamai' soul ofcourse, who had janms of Naam Dhan. His practices were more ' yogic' - we are not ' kinka' equivalent- so if we follow not sleeping for days ( years is obviously far unimaginable) we would loose some brain nerves or mental balance - for that matter. We can't even think of following his life style like shedding Maya totally ( he never touched money- left family- wore negligible clothes- even in super cold weather, ate nothing for days). This is like Dhanna ji or Namdev ji who took their elders words' literally and sat to ensure that Thakur would eat ( laavo bhog Har Rai) - similarly Baba Nand Singh ji took it literally that Gurmukhs never sleeps.. and Waheguru being ' bhaav Bhagat ka bhookha' got them across!! I wish we were also away from these ' chaturaaiyaa' and meet our Gopal with such 'bhole bhaav'...

Bhai Dharamjit Singh explained the vidi to try and transcend sleep when it comes during meditation. Listen from 32 mins. Conclusion we want to do simran to get us to the point of sleepiness and then try and remain awake at the junction. May not be so easy as it sounds. Most of us don't know when that exact point comes.

To me it seems more complex than that, the people targeting our community are operating in a wider national culture where pedophilia is covertly tolerated. That's why we had all the rampant pedophilia going on in the BBC for years, suspicious activity in Parliament itself and a blind eye turned towards decades of street level abuse of both apneean and lower working class gorian (in the thousands at least). It's now apparent that multiple police forces across England ignored this and even covered up for abusers. There is no way the political classes didn't know what was going on either. We can see the reaction to that women Labour MP in the slides who tried to highlight issues in this department in her constituency (she was removed from the front benches by the leader of her party Corbyn if I recall rightly). This is much wider than just perverts operating on street level. There has been complicity across agencies (like social services, media and the police, and even the political classes). People need to grasp that. Addition: I should add, this 'cultural context' in England is changing as we speak (albeit reluctantly) because people are challenging it. Many people would rather things continue as they were, but we should never accept that. Those brothers and sisters amongst apnay who have challenged this and made sacrifices in doing so should feel proud that they have forced the establishment to face this issue. Although (sadly) thousands of girls have fallen foul of the long standing attitude towards the problem over many decades, they should remember that thousands upon thousands of girls are likely to have escaped the clutches of sexual predators due to their efforts at forewarning potential victims. They made a difference in the face of very powerful adversaries who consistently tried to obfuscate and vilify them (and still do!) and this activism should continue until we don't live in a society where organised groups of pedophiles and rapists who target vulnerable members of our community operate with impunity.

Question 14: Dear Guru Jee, why is it that inspite of all the regular practices and offerings to Waheguru I do not get even a glimplse of His darshan? Guru Jee : my dear sikh, listen carefully; if you really want to have His darshan, you have to discard all other practices which keep you away from Him, and faithfully and devotedly do the following as I say : ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਕੁੰਚੀ ਜਬ ਦੀਜੈ ॥ Dhasavai Dhuaar Kunchee Jab Dheejai || When the key is inserted in the Tenth Gate, ਤਉ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੋ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨੪॥ Tho Dhaeiaal Ko Dharasan Keejai ||24|| Then, the Blessed Vision of the Merciful Lord's Darshan is seen. * Note: the Tenth Gate referred by Guru Jee in the verses above, is located in the center above the 2 eyes; and the key which has to be used to open that Door and have His darshan, is His simran alone. Question 12: Guru Jee, I am a bit confused, for I hear people say that all past noble and warriors who sacrificed their lives, are there as such in His court, is it true? Guru Jee: ਇਹੁ ਅਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਜਬ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਬ ਮਿਲਤ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩੮॥ Eihu Ar Ouhu Jab Milai Thab Milath N Jaanai Koe ||38|| When this soul and that Lord are blended, then, having been blended, they cannot be known separately. So, all that you have heard is agyanta which creates doubts in you. * Waheguru is One, when anybody returns there into Him, becomes one Him without any distinction. Any spiritual being/ entity if seen as such in any of the limitless lower spiritual realms, be sure that those realms are yet under the jurisdiction of maya, thus very much in Brahm, and much far away from Satnam, the Highest level of Consciousness and Truth. Valuable tips. Doing Simran and feeling tired is a good thing. There is a very fine line between drifting into sleep/dreamless sleep and sunn. With practice, you will be able to recognize the difference.
