  1. Brother what difference does it make, whether He went or not? For we all know, He is the very embodiment of Truth and divinity of the highest order. So wheresover He went, that place automatically became sanctified. Man made constructions, can only become true temples, if only He, Satguru Jee is present, not otherwise, no matter how large the numbers of the congregation could be. Anyhow, our own human body is the real temple, the real Gurdwara, for He is always present there. "Har mandir ehu sareer hae.... Sat Sree Akal.
  2. A rare conversation between Guru Nanak sahib & Today's Sikh ( human ) . it's one of the best message I have come across... 1. Sikh ( human ):- I can’t find free time. Life has become hectic. Guru Nanak sahib :- Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you free. 2. Sikh ( human ) :- Why has life become complicated now? Guru Nanak sahib :- Stop analyzing life... It makes it complicated. Just live it. 3. Sikh ( human ) :- Why are we then constantly unhappy? Guru Nanak sahib :- Worrying has become your habit. That’s why you are not happy. 4. Sikh ( human ) :- Why do good people always suffer? Guru Nanak sahib :- Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer. With that experience their life becomes better, not bitter. 5. Sikh ( human ) :- You mean to say such experience is useful? Guru Nanak sahib :- Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. It gives the test first and the lessons later. 6. Sikh ( human ) :- Because of so many problems, we don’t know where we are heading… Guru Nanak sahib :- If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides the way. 7. Sikh ( human ) :- Does failure hurt more than moving in the right direction?* Guru Nanak sahib :- Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. 8. Sikh ( human ) :- In tough times, how do you stay motivated? Guru Nanak sahib :- Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing. 9. Sikh ( human ) :- What surprises you about people? Guru Nanak sahib :- When they suffer they ask, "why me?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me?" 10. Sikh ( human ) :- How can I get the best out of life? Guru Nanak sahib :- Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. 11.Sikh ( human ) :- One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered. Guru Nanak sahib :- There are no unanswered prayers. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Life is a mystery to solve not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live. Stay blessed and Stay Happy Always.....!!!
  3. Speechless A father and daughter went to a temple. Suddenly, the daughter shouted after seeing the pillars of Lions at the entrance of the temple, "run Dad, or those Lions will eat us ". Dad consoled her saying "they are just statues and wont harm us" Daughter replied: " if those lion statues wont harm us then how could statues of God give us blessings"* The father wrote in his diary..."I am still speechless on my child's answer and have started searching for God in Humans instead of statues. I didn't find God but I found humanity!! So let us do our best to people who are around us...... Sat Sree Akal.
  4. This your situation is a consequence of your conscioussly increase in time and love to Him, and in return, you are being showered by His apaar Kirpa. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  5. Only by intense love and longing for Wahiguru, and that can only be acheived by His Simran alone. His Simran, is the door to all virtues and spiritual realization. Sat Sree Akal.
  6. Adherents of Hinduism believe Vishnu's eternal and supreme abode beyond the material universe is called Vaikuntha. Vaikuntha is situated beyond the material universe and hence, cannot be perceived or measured by material science or logic. Vishnu's other abode within the material universe is Ksheera Sagara (the ocean of milk), where he reclines and rests on Ananta Shesha, (the king of the serpent deities, commonly shown with a thousand heads). The Puranabharati, an ancient text, describes these as the dashavatara, or the ten avatars of Vishnu. Ten avatars (dashavatara) of Vishnu are the most prominent: Among the ten, nine have occurred in the past and one will take place in the future as Lord Kalki, at the end of Kali Yuga, (the fourth and final stage in the cycle of yugas that the world goes through). These incarnations take place in all Yugas in cosmic scales; the avatars and their stories show that gods are indeed unimaginable, unthinkable and inconceivable for almost all ordinary human beings, but not so for Gurmukhs, Sant Janas or Guru Sahibans, which are far superior, as they are the very embodiment of Wahiguru Akal Purukh. The Bhagavad Gita mentions their purpose as being to rejuvenate Dharma to vanquish those negative forces of evil that threaten dharma. Keeping the above ponits of Vishnu Jee, and with the aid of Gurbani, we can come to the following conclusions: He(Vishnu) can never be the supreme reality as Wahiguru Akal Purukh. He is just an administrator of the creation to an extent, along with his helpers// assistants//colaborators, such as Brahma and Shiva and the lesser gods and godesses. Vishnu is limited to Baikunth, which is very much within the mayavee creation, along with his wife Lakshmi, and resting on Sesnaag, on a ocean of milk. All these things, and entities, though not of material nature, exist very much in the subtle palnes, but that does make them in any way, not even, one spec of the dust of Wahiguru´s Charan Kamal. While the Bani says: Sach Khand vaseh Nirankar. Sach Khand is the plane of pure spirituality, with no trace of maya, mind and kaal. And plus there are no such elements as wife, snakes, weapons, flowers or milk, etc. From Vishnu, avatars come for the establishment of righteousness or dharma, whenever the evil is in growth and goodness is in danger, for that he can even assume the forms of lower species as half lion-half man, or turtle for example, and displays powers, with his weapons to slay his enemies... he is more like Marvel group super heros, with powers. On the contrary, whenever Wahiguru Akal Purukh comes at our human level, He assumes the form of Guru Sahibans, Gurmukhs, Sant Janas. Never dispalys any powers or perfoms miracles, though they are omnipotent And the main concern of His(Wahiguru) coming here, is, for the only purpose for reuniting the jeevas, the souls, with Him, through the bhakti of Naam alone. Naam, and Naam alone, is the main purpose of Him, to make us know in mankind as means of salvation. No jap, tap, poojaas, paths, pilgrimages, fastings, sacrifices, no flowers, no lamps ....nothing is needed, only a pure mind and His Grace above all, to devote ourselves at His Lotus Feet. The avatars, and all these gods will exist as long as creation exist via 4 yugas, then, they too will have to undergo their destiny. The Bani says : Ik Oankar, Satnam : Satnam is the only One Truth. Or we can say, there is only one Creator, which is everlasting Truth, being Naam its manifestation. *It would be important to keep in mind, that no Vishnus or any other gods as such, are mentioned by Guru Sahib as the Primal Being, but, only Satnam Karta Purukh: He is the only doer, without any helpers such as Brahma or Vishnu or any other lower powers Nirbahv Nirvaer: He is fearless, He has no enemies, like the avatrs had to face such as Ravan, or Kans for example Akal Moorat: He existed even before the yugas appeared, means, He is above all these trinity gods, which almost everyone worships, as they come only throughout the yugas, for the only purpose of keeping on the mayavee creation, until the Hukum of Wahiguru is given, so that Parlay or Mahaparlay take place. Ajoonee, saibhang: Wahiguru is birthless, He is self sufficient. While, these trinity gods, and the lesser ones were created by mother Maya and father Kaal. Further on the Bani says : Aapeenhai Aap Saajiou, Aapeenhai Rachiou Naao: He Himself created Himself; He Himself assumed His Name. Naam or Shabd is the real swaroop of Wahiguru, no Vishnus, no Allahs, or no any other entities Gur Parsad, Jap: He is realized or attained, by the jap, by the grace of the Guru. The main difference in devotion between Gurmat and Brahmanvadee is that: anybody can worship these gods and reach their abode, but, Wahiguru can only be worshipped, by the Glance of His Daya Meher on those wadbhagee jeevas, not otherwise. It is a pity, so much brahmanvadee, is entering and polluting sikhee, the sikhya of our beloved Guru Sahibans. And the worst thing, is we keep quite as brainless lambs by accepting it. If any wadeeayee ever, if any Mahima to be sung, that is of One Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Further are some lines about the apaar mahima of that one Supreme Being alone, without any second or third, so to say in numbers. The Bani starts by saying: Ik Oankar. Dhuyee Kudharath Saajeeai Kar Aasan Dditho Chaao || दुयी कुदरति साजीऐ करि आसणु डिठो चाउ ॥ Secondly, He fashioned the creation; seated within the creation, He beholds it with delight. Dhaathaa Karathaa Aap Thoon Thus Dhaevehi Karehi Pasaao || दाता करता आपि तूं तुसि देवहि करहि पसाउ ॥ You Yourself are the Giver and the Creator; by Your Pleasure, You bestow Your Mercy. Thoon Jaanoee Sabhasai Dhae Laisehi Jindh Kavaao || तूं जाणोई सभसै दे लैसहि जिंदु कवाउ ॥ You are the Knower of all; You give life, and take it away again with a word. *Some more lines from Aasaa kee Vaar, regarding the superiority of Wahiguru above all, though some may try to prove the contrary.Naanak Nirabho Nirankaar Hor Kaethae Raam Ravaal || नानक निरभउ निरंकारु होरि केते राम रवाल ॥ O Nanak, the Lord is fearless and formless; myriads of others, like Rama, are mere dust before Him. Kaetheeaa Kannh Kehaaneeaa Kaethae Baedh Beechaar || केतीआ कंन्ह कहाणीआ केते बेद बीचार ॥ There are so many stories of Krishna, so many who reflect over the Vedas. Kaethae Nachehi Mangathae Girr Murr Poorehi Thaal || केते नचहि मंगते गिड़ि मुड़ि पूरहि ताल ॥ So many beggars dance, spinning around to the beat. Baajaaree Baajaar Mehi Aae Kadtehi Baajaar || बाजारी बाजार महि आइ कढहि बाजार ॥ The magicians perform their magic in the market place, creating a false illusion. *These magicians are the avatars of all these gods, who perform the magic of their supernatural powers and weapons, thus create the false illusion, as if they are the ultimate reality. But thanks to our Guru Sahibans and Gurbani, we know, that only Wahiguru is the One Supreme Reality. Sat Sree Akal.
  7. From dude to dude, it is very easy to point others. First thing: as you say, I have my own beliefs, and that has to be acceptable and respected, though you can disagree, but then, it is the same with you. Or are you going now to tell me you haven´t? Second thing: I am not at all trying to impose my views, I am just expressing them. Neither i am focussing on them alone. But you just reject whatever does not fit in your own mental frame, and demean it. Then, if ever anything that interests me, it is Gurbani only, so now do not try to divert the attention by blaming me on focussing my views, that is a dirty game from your side. I am at least as much as you interested in Gurbani. So come on, and do not be so petty minded. Just because you disagree, that dooes not mean you are right and I am wrong. For me, no matter how much you reason or try to reason in this way, it is a totally wrong version. Third thing: why is it that your points or views are correct and mine botched? Out of respect I never told you the same about your beliefs, but today I am pushed by you to say, yours are totallly botched for me also. You add things by your own and remove what is not in your interest. Fourth point : Saints are already one with Wahiguru, there is no difference between the two. It is we people, that we can merge in Him by His Simran. You do not become a Saint by merging in Him, rather you become Him. Because a Saint is not something like attaining a degree in the university, rather a Saint, a Gurmukh, Guru Sahiban, is called a Saint only when Wahiguru comes in the human form at our human level. He does not come as an avatar, but as a Saint, Sant Satguru, Gurmukh.... That also, for the only purpose of reuniting the jeeva souls with Wahiguru through the Naam or Shabad. And last: do not tell me to put your views in my mind, keep them locked in yours, it is the best thing you can do us. Or better even, vacate them, be a bit humble, and learn from the Sadh Kee Sangat. Today I am here, tomorrow I may not be, that is not the problem, because I have no regrets. The problem can be, if people with your attitude remain. I do not accept as reality any Ramchandra, any Krishna, Shiva, Brahma or any other gods or godesses in any numbers, because if there is any Sureme Reality, at least for me, that is only my beloved Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Sat Sree Akal.
  8. Men will be men ... on banking rules It was 5 in the evening, the bank was almost closed. All of a sudden, the branch manager received a call from a lady. In a sweet voice she said-sir I urgently need RS 10.000 . I will reach your bank in 10 minutes. Could you please wait for me? Her voice was so captivating that the manager could not say no. He instructed his cashier to keep the cash ready. The cashier obeyed his boss with great reluctance. After a while a lady with the ugliest face, and ahuge tummy and uncommon figure came in and presented the cheque to cash the money. The branch manager was taken aback, as he was expecting a cute lady. He inmediately told the lady that they hada lraedy closed the cash for the day and she should come the next day. The cashier was so furious, so he told the manager that if his intention was not to pay, why he made him to sit till so late... And the BM told him, I wanted to help her, but it is the universal rule of banking that....if words and figures don´t match, payment will be declined ..... hahahaha.....
  9. Brother Ragmala, His Simran sholud be done exculsively to meet Him. Wishing for anything else apart from Him, is done by the mind, not by the soul. And because of that, we get entangled in karams, and thus our soul is dragged into the wheel of 84. We have read: Jevaad Aap, tevad Teree daat. So what is that His great daat as Himself? Means, He gives us Himself entirely. He is a bountiful merciful giver, and our well wisher also. So He can never ever give us any such thing to bind us in the creation. And about the so called wishes or desires you mention, you see, through His Simran, all of them get dissolved, howsoever low our intentions maybe. Does not the Bani say: Naam japat, trishna sabh bujee hae. You see, Naam simran, is a powerful purifier cleanser, which if applied on us, will remove all our impuritiues, of which we may not be aware even, but guaranteed, we shall be pure enough to merge in Him. Sat Sree Akal.
  10. The aim of Sikhee is One only : Naam. Since the very begining in the Bani, First Patshahee says: Ik Oankar, Sat-Nam. Means that power is Naam, and is Sat, because, it is the only eternal everlasting Truth, everything else is "koor" is "fanah" This Naam is Nirankar, Alakh, Agam and Anami .... But that Supreme Truth is called by Guru Jee as Naam. Now in the Bani, as Naam permates amd pervades each atom of th creation, means it is "rameeya hua hae", the Bani usually mentions Ram Naam for this very reason, because it is not only omnipresent, but actually is present in each particle of His creation. Wahiguru created everything by Himself from this vey Naam, for which He did not need any materials, nor the support of anyone or anything. Third Patshahee in Raag Suhi says: Namae hee te sabh kich hoa. By Naam has everything being created Fift Patshaee says.Naam kay dharay khand brahmand: .... Naam ka dharay agas patal: Naam creates and sustains all realms ....Naam sustaineth all worlds and universes, Naam sustaineth the upper realms and the nether world. So Naam is the one sole reality, without any second third or any numbers .... All our Guru Sahibans, Bhagat Jan, Sant Jan, Gurmukhs, whenever they have come at our level, it is to this very reality, which they direct our attention. Inspite of them being the embodiment of Akal Purukh, they never tell us to to their bhakti or worship them, they are so humble, that for example First Patsahee called Himself as "laala golaa", others have said we are nothing but His servants. And whenever they have come at our human level, they never display miraculous powers, neither they come with their consorts shaktis, their only dependance is Naam, and they tell us, plead us, do not waste your time after anything else, but rather do His Simran, which is the highest religion. And it is by our bhakti of Naam, that we can reach our Nijh Ghar Sach Khand. We do not need to first pray to any gods, for their blessings, rather they tell us that we can have direct link with Wahiguru with His Simran Meanwhile, the so called avatars, gods, godesses, are all with a purpose, which is keeping the creation running under His laws, His hukum. You see, by worshiping these deities, gods, avatars...we can at most reach Baikunth, Swarg, Shivpuri, but never Wahiguru. These avatars, tell us to worship them, in order that we may never reach or think of Wahiguru, otherwise, how can the creation keep running. They come time after time, to reestablish order, so that as said before we may take them as ultimate reality and get entangled here, because, it is only by His Simran, that we can be free forever and merge in that Supreme Power. The difference between avatras, gods, deities and Guru Sahibans, is, that Gurmukhs divert our attention from all paraphernalia towards one reality Wahiguru through His Simran, while these other lower powers, towards themselves. It is a pitiful scene, that how though having sikhee as the only straight path to reach Wahiguru, this brahmanvadee manmat, is slowly entering sikhee and polluting it, that also, because we are so weak, that, we fail to undersatnd the Bani in its true measure, and then we even try to justify ourselves by being cunning, smart with big empty words and intelectual reasoning. One thing is to respect everyone and everything, but we should never ever take fake as reality. And the reality is Sikhee as per teachings of our Guru Sahibans, none can match them, however that avatar or deity may seem divine or appealing. Wahiguru Akal Purukh is the only Supteme reality, all other gods, godesses, deities, in comparison are pecks of dust .... Then we should also keep in mind, that if any simran brings ridhis sidhhis in front of us, this means, we are doing the simran of a lowly entity or deity, and this is the case of gods, or avatars.... means that naam japna we are doing is "kaachaa". So, it is right jugtee that counts, not one´s intentions. His Naam is so paviter, that even if we do His bhakti for any inferior reasons, it does not really matter much, we shall be taken care and straightened by that Dayal Purukh, thus purified. Because just as the Bani says: Har Simran meh Prabh aap Nirankara. Means, in the real Simran of His Naam, He Himself is there. And moreover, the Bani says, that by His Simran, the messengers of death run away. We get rid of all our sins, vikaars, sanskaras, karmas, mind, maya, desires.... And this has logic in it, if He is present in His Simran, which power/entity dares to come near us? Because He is there to protect us, from all adversities which may arise, He is so Dayalu. So you see, there are simrans and simrans, there are naams, and Naam. having the names of hindu gods in the bani, does not mean, we should worship them, but these are names after some qualities or vitues in the Supreme Being. For example, Ram the son of Dashrat, got his name, as per given by his parents, while the Guru Sahibans or Gurmukhs, if say Ram Naam, it is only to convey us the message, that, that Naam permeates each atom, it is "rameeya hua hae"· So it is the Naam which permeates everywhere as Power, not raja Ram. For example, the name Gobind is also mentioned in the Bani. But as we all know, Gobind is also an other name for Krishna, But Saints, Guru Sahibans, while referring to the term Gobind do not refer to Krishna, but that Supreme Being, because Go-Bind are two syllables, which means the sustainer/ of the universe. In a similar way, if there are other such names of hindu gods in the Bani, it is due to the attributes or virtues of Wahiguru or Naam. Below are some comments on your quotations above: ਸੋਈ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਭੈ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਕਉਤਕਹਾਰ ॥੧੯੦॥ So▫ī rām sabẖai kahėh so▫ī ka▫uṯakhār. ||190|| All (saints) say "Ram" and so do the ka▫uṯakhār, those who perform miracles or entertain. In your this particular quotation and explanation, you have entered the word "saints" as nowhere in Gurmukhi says so, it is entirley your interpretaion. This is not correct, thus you are changing the meaning totally as per what Bhagat Kabeer Jee really wants to tell us. It is more likeley correct, that to him who all call as Ramchandra, he displays powers, with his knowledge, is thus is a ka-utakhar also. The same as with Krishna, while lifting the mountain whae Indra decided to make a heavy rainfall...and many other more of his leelas .... There is a vast differences between these avatars of Vishnu, and Guru Sahibans or Gurmukhs, who are the very embodiment of Wahiguru Akal Purukh. While the avatars come time after time to keep the creation in order with righteouness, Guru Sahibans, come with the sword of Nam to cut all our chains with the creation, and use it as a way to reach and merge in Wahiguru. That is it. ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੁ ਕਹਿਬੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥ Kabīr rāmai rām kaho kahibe māhi bibek. Kabir says do say "Ram" but in saying it recognize this difference/ this thought (bibek). In this line above, you are ommiting the word "ramai·", which actually means, the one Ram which premates or pervades everywhere, thus again your tranaslation is uncomplete and incorrect, and thus it gives a distorted view. I do not at all agree with whatever you want to make us see, that Ram of Ayodhya, Krishna, Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu are absolute realities in any manner.... I do not deny their existence, neither their shkatis nor their prole, but they have nothing, nothing to do with my beloved Wahiguru Akal Purukh. For example our Guru Sahibans, as said above, are the embodiment of Akal Purukh, but none of them told us in any way to do the jaap of their worldly names, as Sachay Patshah Nanak, Arjun Dev, etc ...Or have you seen anybody doing so? All of them told us reapeatedly, to do the Simran of One Naam, which is the Truth since Aad Jugaad, and shall continue to be so yugas after yugas.... To end, would like to write a few words of mahima of the True Naam from Sukhmani Sahib, which the Bani talks about and gives us salvation: Naam tul kachhu avar na hoe, Nanak Gurmukh Naam paavai jan koe. Sat Sree Akal.
  11. Fantastic all this above with which I very much agree. And to this, I would like add something from the Bani which goes in tune with the comments made by you. Gur kirpa keenee, Sach, man vasaaya. That is: with the grace of the Sadhu Sangat, that Supreme Being, comes to abide in us, or is made "pargat within us" We are nobody to know the heights of any Saint or Gurmukh. I do not know about you, but me surely not. So I will not discuss, why Bhagat Nam Dev says so, or why He did not say otherwise.... You have a way of perceiving things, me too the same, and the same applies with all, because we all are at different conscious levels. Each one of us has different shoe size so to say. Why you believe so, maybe is good and valid for you because you are at that level at that time. And the thing is we are not the same at all times. As years pass, we grow in maturity along with spiritual work or bhakti. Changes are not like at the physical level, but at the intelectual, emotional or spiritual level. Like things we used to believe 20 years ago, suddenly take a different direction. things which we used to read like parrots and remembered them by heart, suddenly we see the true depth or meaning, which they were meant... So you see, I can not force you on anything, neither you can on me, because each has different backgrounds, different sanskaras, intearctions with the world, etc. And this does not necessarily mean, that someone is better... You see, it is just a matter of time. Some seeds sprout earlier, and some later, due to the different grounds they fall in, or the climatical conditions they face, lack of water, or overfloods at some times .... The trees will surely grow, but it all depends on individual conditions. So, going a bit further, as you have stated something from Bhagat Nam Dev´s Bani, which I very much respect, I am going to put forth some words of reasonable value of a Gurmukh, and then some words of Bhagat Kabeer Jee´s sloks. "Gurbani or the Guru’s word as contained in Sri Guru Granth Sahib says God has no name but still innumerable names. Gurbani contains the Gurus’ discourses which they sang and explained to their audiences. The compositions of various saints selected by the gurus for inclusion in the scripture also follow the same principle which is basically the unity of God and how the soul may merge back into God and attain salvation. The Sikh faith emanated from India which is also where the Hindu religion had earlier come into being. The two faiths are therefore partners in same languages and culture. Most of the original Hindu scriptures are in Sanskrit considered the language of the gods – Dev Bhasha. The Sikh religion has only one holy book which is considered the eternal guru and called Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Most of Gurbani represents the discourses the Gurus and the earlier saints or Bhagats gave to their audiences. It uses languages that were then current in India during the period of evolution of its contents from the 15th to the 18th centuries CE. Gurbani therefore uses the names for God as understood by the people. This included Persian and Arabic words which had been become known because of Muslim presence. Out of the names of Akal Purakh used in Gurbani a representative list could be: Parbrahm, Ram, Hari, Kartar, Akal Moorat, Thakur, Khasam, Antarjami, Niranjan, Abinasi, Parmesar, Prabhu, Bidhata, Sarangpani, Dayal, data, Achut, Gopal, Gobind, Chintamani, Patit Paavan, Parmanand, Gurdev, Sirjanhaar, Pratipaalak, Dukh Bhanjan, Kirpal, Sukh Saagar, Beethal, Bhagat Vachhal. Naarain, Mukand, Saaeen. Some of the names associated with Krishna incarnation in Hindu mythology: ਮੁਰਾਰੀ, ਮਧਸੂਦਨ, ਦਮੋਦਰ, ਗੋਵਰਧਨ, ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥ Murari, Madhusoodan, Damodar, Goverdhan (Lifter of), Banwari. Some of the names used by the Muslims for God: ਅਲਹ, ਮਉਲਾ, ਖੁਦਾ, ਸੁਲਤਾਨ, ਰਹੀਮ, ਕਰੀਮ, ਹਕ, ਪਰਵਰਦਗਾਰ, ਕਬੀਰ ॥ Allah, Maula, Khuda, Sultan, Rahim, Karim, Haq, Parvardgar, Kabir. Attempts have been made by Hindu scholars followed by some foreign scholars to represent the Sikh faith as an offshoot of Hinduism or even a part of it. This is a result of mistaking cultural identity as religious. It is interesting to note how the two faiths got their names. The Hindu religion derives its name from ‘Sindhu’ based on the area of river Indus called Sind in India. So the name is based on a region. The word ‘Sikh’ means a disciple or seeker and hence the Sikh religion represents the ‘seekers’. It is transcends space boundaries. There is another interesting aspect. As we shall see below the Hindu faith is based on the stories of incarnations whose existence is linked to particular ages. Hinduism therefore has limitations of time and space as far as their gods or deities are concerned. Since the Hindu gods represent different ages it shows they were born and died like ordinary human beings. On the other hand the Sikh faith believes only in One God who is unborn, eternal and beyond limitations of time and space. One way of describing God could be on the basis of our perception of what God does. This is how the names mentioned above have been given. Name is given to some one by the parents on birth. God is Ajooni i.e. does not incarnate so no one could have given IT any name. But every entity needs some means of identification which may be in the form of identification marks, color, hair, gender, lineage, caste or origin. God has none of these but is still a reality, an eternal reality. This last aspect of being eternal is unique to God – every one and every thing else comes into existence and perishes. This is called Sat Naam i.e God is known as the Universal Truth. Gurbani acknowledges that it is impossible to give name to God except our perception of Its virtues. The fifth guru says: ਕਿਰਤਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਥੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਹਬਾ ॥ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਰਾ ਪੂਰਬਲਾ ॥ ੫ ੧੦੮੩ O Lord we can only describe your virtues, but You are the universal truth from time immemorial (M: 5, 1083). That means that God is identified by way of ITs virtues. Since it is the same God of all the same names would be used by all subject however to the languages used. Many writers of other faiths describe the Sikhs as Hindus simply because Gurbani uses those names for God that are used also by the Hindus. The case with incarnations is different. Let us consider the following fundamental beliefs in Hinduism: One god, who is the supreme master. There are 36 crore or 360 million gods in Hindu belief. However God is also believed to be represented by the trinity of Brahma the creator, Vishnu the sustainer and Shankar (also called Ishar, Mahesh, Mahadev and Rudra), the destroyer. The latter is also popularly called Shiva – a name for God – because of the tremendous powers attributable to him.Vishnu incarnates and is to have ten incarnations nine of which have already occurred. This has happened in the four ages or Yugas in Hindu mythology namely Satya, Treta, Dwaapar and the current Kali. His incarnations are worshipped as if God. Two incarnations namely Rama in Treta and Krishna in Dwaapar are given particular attention. The tenth incarnation Kaliki is yet to come. The Hindu temples have idols mostly of Krishna and his consort Radha installed in them. That is because Krishna is considered the supreme Deva or god.In addition to the belief in Shiva as God the Hindus also believe in Shakti the wife of Shankar for God to achieve full power. Shakti means power. There are separate temples of the Devi or goddess where her idol is installed. The devotees pray to her for benedictions. The Hindu mode of worship is Pooja Archna. These involve burning lamps or incense and offering food or flowers for the deity. Items of clothing along with food are also offered for the Devi. All Pooja must be done by the priests at the respective temples. Since the Hindu faith is one of belief in incarnations as well as in God the dichotomy can be seen. It is considered a polytheistic faith. Rama considered the seventh incarnation of Vishnu is linked with Treta Yuga and the epic Ramayana. He was the eldest son of King Dashrath of Ayodhya but gave up the right to his father’s throne and instead went on exile to uphold the word of his father to Rama’s step mother. He is therefore called Maryada Purushtam or the upholder of principles. This is the attribute emphasized in Hindu writings. There is no direct divinity attributed to him except by inference. Gurbani uses the Name Ram in two ways one as the son of Dashrath and the other for God. The Hindu and other writers catching on to Ram as God say the Sikh religion accepts the divinity of Ram and are therefore Hindus. Gurbani however clearly brings out the difference between the two, thus in the following words of Kabeer Jee´s sloks in Ang 1374: kabeer raam kahan meh bhayd hai taa meh ayk bichaar. Kabeer, it does make a difference, how you chant the Lord's Name, 'Raam'. This is something to consider. so-ee raam sabhai kaheh so-ee ka-utakhaar. Everyone uses the same word for the son of Dasrath, and the Wondrous Lord. kabeer raamai raam kaho kahibay maahi bibayk. Kabeer, use the word 'Raam', only to speak of the All-pervading Lord. You must make that distinction. ayk anaykeh mil ga-i-aa ayk samaanaa ayk. One 'Raam' is pervading everywhere, while the other is contained only in himself(son of king Dashrat). * I am not disrespecting any gods, but each one has a place, and for me, Wahiguru Akal Purukh is the only Reality, all others deites, gods, godesses ... even in millions or trillions of them come together before me, even then undoubtedly, my beloved Wahiguru is the most beautiful and utmost sweet, and to His Charan Kamal shall I pray, to bless me to stay there forever. Mera Har Prabh Sundar, meh saar na jaanaa Sat Sree Akal .
  12. As far as I understand, it means, the holy scriptures as Puranas, Quran give many names to Him. But He Wahiguru, is beyond any words, languages, thoughts ... What words, languages, religions, dharams, mazabs were there? When the Bani says, prior to His mauj of creating the creation, He was deeply absorbed within Himself, in His Shabad state. Words make no diifference to Him. He is one thing, and His attributes are infinite, and each one of his Names, are but a tiny description of His inmense, infinite Mahanta Just as writing the word light on a paper, or putting a big picture of the planet Sun in a dark room, will not dispel even one atom of the darkness at all. In a similar way, Wahiguru, Akal Purukh, is Supra Conciouss Power or Energy, who is within each one of us in same measure. Ram Ram karta sabh jag phirey, Ram na paaya koee. The whole world goes on repeating Ram Ram, here and there, means repeating the names which can be uttered, written or read. But that Name, that Ram(not the son of king Dashrat), is something far much subtle than anything we can ever imagine about. Saints have called that Supreme Power as Ram, because it is "ramaee huee " everywhere and every place. In Sikhee, that power is known as Naam or Shabad. And according to the Bani, it is only by doing a particular jugtee or bhakti, by meditation or dhyan, known as Nam Simran, which makes Pargat that Akahnd Jot, within us, and ultimately we are absorbed or merged in that Light, becoming one with it. This is sikhee, and this is the only purpose of Sikhee. Anything apart from it, is just our own misconception of the Reality, to which we want to limit it within the limited parameteres of our mind. Sat Sree Akal.
  13. Very well said Crystal. SGGS is the source of spirituality. What can people say or do, when we have Guru Jee with us? Who can match its perfect wisdom and Truth? None. We humans are imperfect and weak. Sat Sree Akal
  14. Steps towards the realization of the divine I used to go to the temple with my grandma. The temple had flights of stairs. I used to ask her why can't they build the temple on the ground? Why do you have to climb the stairs at each and everyday temple? The answer she gave me was interesting. She said you need to rise above your level to reach God. Each step in those stairs is a reminder that you are rising above your level in terms of your envy, your greed, anger, ego and all evil parts of your life. It also suggests that you have to climb the steps one by one, you can't just jump off from first step to the last step. That is the cycle of life, once you conquer these aspects you reach towards your inner core self. Sat Sree Akal.
  15. Welcome, I would suggest you to better go to the very roots or source of Sikhee, which is any web with the transliteration of Sree Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj, the teachings of the Guru Sahibans, who are the embodiment of Truth and wisdom. One such web recommended is : www. searchgurbani.com You will be amazed, about how the Truth is conveyed in a simple and clear language, about how they try to describe the Unfathomable and Undescribable Supreme Being. And then, if there is anything which you like to get some more light on something in particular that which you are going through, you may place your queries here, and most gladly, any of the members here, will assist you. Best of luck and God bless you.
  16. Dhan Dhan Sree Guru Amar Das Maharaj in His paviter Bani in Raag Aasaa, tells us something about the reality of our existence and about that Supreme Power, that Supreme Lord, and which is the only eternal changeless Truth. This Truth is commonly known as Satnam, which means, that Supreme Power is Naam, and it is Truth or Sat, becuase it is permanent and eternal, it is this power which has created all creations of khands, brahmands and everything seen or unseen. And that the way to realize Him, is first by His Grace, and then, by applying ourselves sincerely to His devotion. And this devotion as seen in His words below, is none other than meditating on Him, through His Naam. So let us have a look at His sweet ambrosial words: Sohaaganee seegaar banaa-i-aa gun kaa gal haar. The happy soul-bride adorns herself with the necklace of virtue. In the first line above, He is telling us, that, only that soul is a happy soul bride of Akal Purukh, who adorns herself with the "seengaar" with a very valuable jewel necklace. But it is not not any material necklace, but the priceless jewel of virtue. In the next line, in order to remove our ignorance, He tells us very clearly, which is that virtue jewel necklace , He says, it is the jewel of reflective meditation, means Naam Simran. Let us pay real attention, to His words, He as the embodiment of true wisdom and devotion, does not tell us to do anything else, but rather gives us direct instructions(hukum), that, if you want to look beautiful in the eyes of Wahiguru, and you want Him to shower you with His unbound love, decorate yourself with His Naam Simran. Because, this is the only jewel by which He gets attracted, no matter how many other activities one may do as per means of devotion, they are all futile in His eyes. Now let us just ask ourselves, if He, Sree Guru Amar Das Maharaj, is the embodiment of Wahiguru, is telling us the type of devotion to do, why do we not do this type devotion seriously? Why do we engage ourselves in other activities, however appealing they may seem us to be? paraym pirmal tan laavnaa antar ratan veechaar. She applies the perfume of love to her body, and within her mind is the jewel of reflective meditation. In the third line, He again warns us, if we do not attach ourselves with His Naam, we are like worms in the waste, and are the most lower beings. bin naavai sabh neech jaat hai bistaa kaa keerhaa ho-ay Without the Naam, all are low class, like maggots in manure You see, from His words we can see very clearly that He is saying, that no one born in a particular community, caste, color or creed becomes superior to others. Without Naam all are low, class without exception. ha-o ha-o kardee sabh firai bin sabdai ha-o na jaa-ay. Everyone proclaims, "Me, me!"; but without the Shabad, the ego does not depart In this fourth line above, He says, as long as we do not merge ourselves in Naam, we remain egoistic and ignorant. Cause we say my religion, my god, my land, my this this, my that is the best ... When the truth is, every one and everything, one day has to decay and get dissolved... And then what remains? Naturally, He and His Naam only. So that is why all Gurmukhs, all Bhagats, and Guru sahibans will only tell us to leave all else as koorr aside, and attach ourselves with Naam /Shabad. Then in the fifth line below, He tells us what is the cosequence if we devote ourselves in Naam Bhakti. naanak naam ratay tin ha-umai ga-ee sachai rahay samaa-ay. O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam lose their ego; they remain absorbed in the True Lord. He says here, that, if we do this type of devotion, we shall become free of ego/mind, and thus of desires, trishnas, vaasnas, karmas, and finally we shall remain absorbed in Him, becoming one with Him, such is His majesty. Thus going through the divine words of Guru jee, we can prosudly say, that Naam japna is the true religion for all beings, becuase it is the only way to merge in him and become one with Him. Sat Sree Akal.

  18. Brother Jaswant Singh, We have to respect all beings, irrespective of their caste, color or creed. The photograph in your post above, is due to the friendship between them, due to the humanity between them. That´s it. Myself I have had muslim friends since childhood, due to neighbourhood, due to studies in school, due to work/business, and we never brought our religion in between, we all respected each others points of views. I even remember, one day at noon after school, several of us boys(among us 2 were muslims) while coming back home, we decided that we would stop at each boys house and have a bit of lunch. I fondly remember, that when we went to the first muslim boy´s house, his mother knew, two of us were not muslims, it was obvious, she served us the food which was veg. And so it went, within everybody´s house. No mother complained of how or why, but all were happy to see us and there was no discrimination or a bad face even. I do have christian friends also. I do mix up with all as we are all human social beings. at one time or the other, we may have to interact with someone out of one´s community. Of course, at all places we have good and bad wicked people. But believe it, the teachings of any Gurmukh, Sant or Darvesh are not bad by themselves, it is the manipulative manmukhta in interpretaing them, which turn men into fanatics, into beasts, into demons.... and the worst thing is, all this crime is done in the name of religion, in the name of god. Foolish them, my blood boils whenever I see these atrocities commited . Coming back to the word religion, we must bear in mind, the word religion comes from the latin word religare, which literally means, that which unites us with the Origin. Now what is that unites us with the Lord? Is it our prayers? Is it by our rituals or fastings? Is it doing good karmas as giving alms, or anything alike? is it by bathing in the sacred waters? Is it by going to pilgrimages? is it by memorizing the holy scriptures? You see, the Bani cleary says: Jin Har japeeya, se Har hoeeya. Prabh ka Simran, sabh tay oochaa. He who chants/meditate on His Naam, becomes one with Him, the Lord. Means, attaching ourselves, by meditating upon only that one primal and eternal Truth, known with different words in different dharams/mazabs as : the Word, Kun, Tao, Naam, Shabad, Amrit Bani, Sachee Bani. Different words in different religions/languages, do not change the reality. For example, we say water, panee, eau, jal, wada, apaa, in different languages, but that changing words, does not change the reality of water of its composition as H2O. Would it not be foolish to think otherwise? This is Sikhee in simple words. This is universal religion. Because, it unites our souls with our origin, Wahiguru Akal Purukh, without depending on any outer factors. Just He, we as souls, and the link: Naam. As simple as this, this is Gurmat. And not all the paraphernalia around us, created by us, which is manmukhta or manmat. And it is to this Sikhee, which our Guru Sahibans have said: Jug chaare Naam outam, Shabad beechar. Means, throughout the four phases/ ages of existence of the creation, only the Naam, the Shabad is permanent, eternal, changeless and Supreme. And this Naam is Nirankar, there is no way to catch it, to grab it, create it, encage it in lifeless things , however hard we may try, be it may with any science/technolgy. But yes, we can manifest it within us using a technique called Naam Simran, that is why the Bani says: Har mandir ehu sareer hae, gyan ratan pargat hoe. This human body, irrespective of any caste, class, gender or color, is the real temple, the real Gurdwara, real mosque, real church, where that Wahiguru Akal Purukh, Naam or Shabad can be ever found. Nobody has ever found Him outside, neither will ever anyone. That is His law. And this law, has to be applied right when we are alive, beacuse otherwise we are chained by our karmas in the wheel of eighty four, and this Naam japna, is the only karnee which is not only above any subh karma, but it is also the only reality, which dissolves all our karmas, all our bandhans, all our sanskaras, thus makes us free and pure, for our only purpose of coming in the human form, which is to merge our soul consciousness in Him, Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Sat Sree Akal.
  19. Sikhism is a natural path towards the highest Supreme Being, Wahiguru. Other thing is how we interpret it, just as in the rest of other dharmas.... The teachings of our Guru Sahibans, of our Bhagats, Gurmukhs are faultless, it is the interpretation of the manmukh moorakhs, which has polluted their teachings and made them reduced to the lowest level of rituals, dogmas, fastings , bathings, pilgrimages and a big list of all outer activities, when the divinity is within us, and the way is within us as per the bani, but we waste our lives in the Maya, due to our impurity and poor intelectual level.... So apart from Gurbani/Gurmat, all else is Maya, is koor, is fanaah, give it any name .....past, present or future Sat Sree Akal.
  20. WHAT IS LIFE ? What is Life? They say its from B to D...from Birthday to Death.. But what's between B and D? Its a " C ", a Choice ... Similarly, our life is a matter of choices... Live well with the right choices, and it will never go wrong.
  21. ENJOY THE COFFEE A group of friends visited their old university professor. Conversation soon turned to complaints about 'STRESS' & 'TENSION' in Life. Professor offered them Coffee & returned from kitchen with Coffee in different kinds of cups !!! (Glass Cups, Crystal Cups, Shining Ones, Some Plain Looking, Some Ordinary & Some Expensive Ones......) When all of them had a Cup in Hand, the professor said:- "If you noticed- all the Nice Looking & Expensive Cups are taken up, leaving behind the ordinary ones !! Everyone of you wanted the Best CUPS, & that is the source of your STRESS & TENSION !! What you really wanted was "Coffee", not the "Cup" ! But you still went for the Best Cup. If Life is Coffee ; Then Jobs, Money, Status & Love etc. are the Cups !!! They are just TOOLS to hold and contain Life. Please Don't Let the CUPS Drive you !! Enjoy the COFFEE ......!!!
  22. Sharing a beautiful explanation by a famous indian scholar and thinker named Vinoba Bhave . Explaining the Meaning of 'Association'. He said: "The rain drop from the sky, if it is caught in hands is pure enough for drinking. If it falls in gutter, it's value drops so much that it can't be used for washing the feet. If it falls on hot surface, it perishes. If it falls on lotus leaf, it shines like a pearl. And finally, if it falls on oyster, it becomes a pearl. The drop is same, but it's existence & worth depends on with whom it associates." * In a similar way, the jeevas in all of us are same, but it is our association with bad, good or best, which makes the difference. In the company of bad, we become sinners. In the company of good, we become angels. But, it is only in the company of Gurmukhs, Sant Janas, that we become as good as Wahiguru, by merging in Him, thus the best. Sat Sree Akal.
  23. Brother, respect your parents and their views. You see, even if one is born in Guru Ghar, that does not secure faith and devotion in us. It is all written from Dur Dargeh on our foreheads. Just tell me, since we came into creation, how many parents have we all have had? So, you see, our coming and being related to them, is nothing but all karmic account, when it is balanced, each one of us, goes his/her own way. He is our True father and Mother and everything, it is to Him, whom we have to look and search for, to stay in peace forever, until then we shall we wandering aimlessly inthe creation. Our relation with Him, is not to be publicized, we can lead a normal life, as a normal human being, but within we have to give our heart and mind to Wahiguru. It is an intimate relation with Him, but yes that much you can do, you may pray him, to give some Light of understanding to your parents, in order for them to believe and accept Him. You see, even faith in Him, is His bakshish, nothing is in our hands. But after this prayer before Him, leave it to Him and remain in His bhaana. He knows best, what He has to do. Does not the Bani say: Bin boleeya, sabh kich jaandaa... God bless you. Sat Sree Akal.
