    Dear Singh Jee,
as per your doubt if one will progress or not.... our whole Gurmat is based on Shabad....

    And the Bani beautifully says:
Anter Jot, Niranter Bani, Sachay Sahib siu liv lae.

Means, within us is the divine Light, from it cometh the Sound, the Bani; which developes love in us for the True Lord. This Shabad, is the real creator, that is why Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj says:

Shabde dhartee, Shabde Akash, Shabde Shabad hoa parkash. Saglee Shreeste Shabad ke paachey, Nanak Shabad ghate ghat aachhey.

It is this very Shabad, which cuts our bondages of karmas(Nanak, Shabad karam kee lekh kataveh), mind(Prabh ka Simran, maan kee mael jae), maya.

This very Shabad is also the guide for thr sikh disciple in the inner spiritual planes ( Shabad Guru(guide), Dhun(soul) chela(disciple)..... do not worry, one will not get distracted by these sounds, as they will pull one´s attention, will catch automaticaly one´s attention...and each sound is a milestone, means depending on what one hears, shows one´s level of consciousness reached... of course, these things are not to be talked of so lightly, or debated ... they to be experienced by each one of us.

The full Granth Sahib is nothing but Glory of this Shabad; upto the extent, that it is said, in the beginning when Aad Guru had not manifested itself as Satnam, He was absorbed, in His Shabad swaroop....then He decided to manifest Himself, and everything took place later on, but that, even Wahiguru , Satnam or Satpurukh is a manifestation, or let us say projection, of Shabad...

Shabad is wonderfull, is sweet nectar( Amrit Bani), is bliss.... is Anamee. (Words fail to describe its mahanta)

    Waheguru.

They are as different as North and South.
Nam is the only everlasting and changeless Truth, which can be described as a  supreme  consciouss creative power with infinite virtues, and among all of them  love and  mercy,  like cream on  milk, as per description by His Bhagat Jan, Gurmukhs and Guru Sahiban.
While riddhis and siddhis are just lifeless and consciousless energies without any virtues by themselves.
Take for example a knife, which can cut vegetables to be eaten, or can be used to harm someone.
So you see, while Nam/Shabad/Satnam is a consciouss life force of the highest order, riddhis and siddhis are inert in essence.

Agree totally. Your advice is quite sound and justified, because the simran jaap as per sikhee mentioned by you above, is what will safely and surely take us to His abode.
For if Waheguru alone is our goal, then of course the wisdom of Guru Jee which is complete, is what is required to reach that goal.
Otherwise there are so many khands, so many realms, so many subtle planes...countless, to which we may reach mistakenly.
The teachings of Guru Jee are the purest and highest  which deal only with Sach Khand and Waheguru, so there is no chance of manmukhta nor mistakes.
It is Gurbani which tells us :
JIN HAR JAPEEYA SE HAR HOEEYA.
Let us ask ourselves, is there any other path which can reveal us such Truth in such a simple verse of 6 words only?
    Wah Waheguru, wah Gurbani.

Yes that is the corresponding  to the shabad of Second Patshahee.

And going with something related to it, feel like sharing the following points:
The thing is we are so much attached to the body and its organs, that we think when we shall leave from here, we shall somehow be there within with a similar body and its features, if not the same, in terms of color, size and gender.
Maybe that is true to an extent when we  are still in the lower spiritual realms, but as we proceed higher and higher beyond the creation of Brahm, then even the astral and causal bodies are left far behind, then only the pure soul free from any bonds soars high and high towards Sach Khand.
Have we ever thought, if Akal Purukh is a immense, infinite, subtle  non physical entity, and which is all powerful (samrath) though without any arms and hands,  omnipresent (sarvavyapak) without any body nor legs to move,  omniscient (Guru), without any head or brains and yet He has made out of nothing, wonderful creations upon creations.
He sees everything from micocospic to macrocosmic sizes, forms, colors, etc,  yet without any eyes, He listens to our prayers and pledges, yet withou ears...
If all that is possible with Him, and that is what our state going to be, why so much hatred, ahankar, agaynta, just because of color, caste, creed, due to the perishable body?
    What for?
When nothing of that will go with us, neither will count THERE.
    Then, why so much discrimination?
The path of Gurmat, is solely for the spiritual developement and uplift of the non physical entity called soul or jeev atma, that is it. This too, with non physical tools, such as love, devotion, morality, purity, faith, kirpa, Gurparsad ......
So, why limit ourselves and kill or cut each others throats, just for the blind word of religion ?
As per Gurbani, the only true religion, is His jaap, for its is this very practice only, which will make possible our union with Him, that too, to ultimately merge, thus burn away any petty notion of our individual identities.
All souls, are  rays with same light and warmth, which have emerged from Him, the One Origin of all and everything.
It is the each and every single ray(soul), which has to merge in their Origin/Sun, same in nature, not the bodies.
There in Sach Khand, only ONE Waheguru exists. He is like the huge Ocean, in which every river which flows into it, becomes the Ocean. Thus the river loses its limited and petty identity, in order to gain something, such as to become something Whole.
There is no such variety of people of any past, even all Bhagat Jan, Gurmukhs, Guru Sahiban who blessed us with their presence, after going from here, reached and became one with Waheguru  in Sach Khand.
If anybody thinks , that when reaching there, I will  see so and so entities, then sorry  to say, we have not understood spirituallity nor Gurmat, in spite of being so much clear our beloved Guru Sahiban throughout the Bani.

Well , regarding the title of this thread the Bani clearly says:
    AAPAY SATGUR
    AAPAY HAR
    AAPAY MEL MILAWE
This means, He Himself is the Satguru, He Himself is the Lord, and He himself reunites us with Him.
Thus paying attention to the Bani in the verse above, we can confidendtly say: Guru Nanak was God Himself.

    Dear brother Amardeep,
it would be better if we say, that the Creator Himself, assumed a limited form as a Guru, for us limited beings, in order to teach us the Higher Truth in our own terms.
    ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਪਾਲੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
    Gur   Gopaal   Purakh Bhagavaan ||
The Guru is the Lord of the World, the Primal Being, the Lord God.
    Raag Gond Guru Arjan Dev

He Waheguru Akal Purukh, is Alakh Purukh, is Nirala, is Agam Purukh, thus not perceived, not only by any our indriyas, but our spiritual sight is also taped by our karmas, vikars, sanskaras...... So you see, not only He is subtle, thus not perceived as said above, but neither we have any such instruments to reveal Him, for we are spiritually blind, thus all our actions are futile.
He also, in His original form is in a way to say, He is limited, for however He may much want, we can never ever  have His darshan, nor profit from His akhoot Jot.
So He comes at our level as a human being like us, which is considered the top of the creation.
He comes as a Guru, as Guru Sahiban, because He, our True Father and Mother, can not resist Himself, when He hears our  terrible wails of pain and despair due to our own karmas, for that is what in reality exists in the mayavee creation.
And His greatness is such, that in spite of being omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, He respects His Hukum, His bhaana, in terms of  His own created laws of nature.
He does not display any supernatural powers, that is not His character, unlike the avtars of gods, godesses, or other spiritual entities.
His purpose of coming here, is only to make us know about His true reality of Nam or Shabad, and to make us foolish agyanis understand, that Nam is the only  eternal and unchangeable Truth that exits, and is the only boat, the  only vessel, which by boarding on, we can cross from the false and perishable  creation of Brahm, to the other side of the shore, where only  eternity and True bliss exists, namely Sach Khand.

    ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਭਵ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
Gur Bohithh Thaarae Bhav Paar ||
The Guru is the boat to cross over the terrifying world-ocean.
So you see, if the Guru is the boat to cross the maha bhavsagar, it is just but natural, that He Waheguru, assumes the form of a Guru to take our souls across, isn´t it?
The glory or mahima of Guru and Gobind is apaar, words fail to describe Him, He is beyond any description....
    Stay blessed.

I am sorry, but I must say, we take things literally. We fail to know the esence of things.

Sahib Jee, what makes you think, He can not manifest Himself through a living being?

He has been doing so, since aad jugaad. It is our limited vision, for which we think, the way we think and express ourselves ....

Just let us stop a bit and think a liitle bit..... and ask ourselves questions like:

Who or what is Akal Purukh? What for, does He need, to come to our level? How does He come, and manifest Himself ?
The answers are as follows, maybe there are some memebers in the sangat who can give their valuable opinions, but as these are mine own, which I would like to share with the blessed sangat here:

    1) Wahiguru Akal Purukh is not something physical, not even mental, He is beyond that. And above all, He is a level of Highest Consciousness, Energy, He is an Infinte Ocean of Love, mercy and Grace....These are His main virtues, many have described Hm also as Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent. And still others say: He is Ouch se Oucha, the Highest; Apaar, Unfathomable; Beant, Infinite; Soami, the Lord Master of everything.

The Bani says: Sochay soch na hovaee, jeh sochae lak vaar. One can not come to comprehend Him, if you think again again, hundreds of thousands of times

    2) He comes to our human level, just for us, souls, His jeevas....

    Why?

To make us know the Truth, which otherwise would be impossible. Because in our presemt state, we are surrounded by maya, and overpowered by kaal, and his ministers: kaam, krodh, lobh, moh and ahankar...plus the chains upon us of countless karmas...just imagine, since we left Sach Khand, since aeons, we have been just collecting karmas, so we have an unlimited unpayable account on our heads.
So brothers, sincerely speaking, we have not even a remote chance to escape by our own efforts, and reach Him, it is just unimaginable for us. That is the reason, when we want to meditate on Him and close our eyes, we see nothing but darkness, so we just give up, and prefer not to do this bhakti, rather many other practices.... and through the Bani, we know, if we do not do this Bhakti, there is no liberation either .....

But what do we moorkhs do? We do our own maanmat. Thus we never ever, lay at His dooor as kookars even....

Then too, we proudly say, we are sikhs...

Being a sikh is very great thing, it is the begining of our returning Home, but unfortunately, we just put a sticker on us, that we are sikhs of the Guru, but the fact is, it is far from reality, and we just pass our lives fooling around, with politics, land, rituals, wars, hatred, intolerance, manmukhta....etc.

And the only one thing which the Bani repeats constantly, we overlook it: Awar kaaj, tere kiteh na kaam, mil Sadh Sangat, bhaj kewal Naam.

So, when we close our eyes to do bhajan bandagee, the unavoidable darkness we see, it is nothing, but, the blackness of our own countless karmas, otherwise, as some mahapurukhs have said, our soul has the light of sixteen suns....

So if we never wash our karmas with His Simran; how will, or when will that darkness star becoming lesser?
    Of course never....

So one of the reasons of their coming is, to reveal us the secrets(bhed) of Naam, so that we leave our stupidity, and catch hold of that Shabad, by unfolding it within ourselves, and after cleaning ourselves, and becoming spotless, we board the Jaaz of Naam and retrun back to our Nijh Ghar, Sach Khand and finally merge in Him, and becoming one with Him.

    3) As we know He is a level of consciousness, He is not anything material. So He has to come at our physical level, so that, we may understand Him.
If He comes as a devi or devta, we can not see them. if He comes as an animal, bird or trees, we can not understand them, moreover, they are below the mankind level, which is considered the highest among the beings, even higher than the gods or devis. devtas, who starve to get once again the human birth to do the right bhajan bandagee, and merge in Him.

So you see, He has to talk with us, in our own languages, so that we may understand the higher Truths of Shabd, of Naam, of Satnam...

The changes/differences among different beings, are mainly at the consciousness level, otherwise, we all have more or less the same heights, two eyes, one nose, hands, legs, etc

In the same way, when Wahiguru decides to dwell among us for our spiritual uplift, He manifests Himself, in the forms of Bhagats, Sadhs, Sant Janas, Guru Sahibans...

If we look at these holy supreme beings, outwardly, they look like any one of us, there is hardly any differnce, there is nothing, which denotes their superiority... Neither do they dress in a particular way ... Neither it is like in the army, that their unforms have badges or marks to show their ranks ....

So then where/what is that quality which distinguishes them? It is as said befor at the consciouss level, while we are entagled with the world and maya, they are in tune with the inner reality, in constant communion with the Shabad Guru; their rom rom vibrates with Naam.

That is why the Bani says: Har Jee baseh Sadh ke hirdey.
Though hirdey is heart, but here the Bani does not refer to the heart, which is just a muscle, a piece of flesh, rather it means, that, that Supreme Power and Consciousness, has come to abide, with the soul consciousness of that being, that is why it can talk so precisely, about Wahiguru and Sach Khand, if this was not so, how would anybody know about Him?

Of course never ever, cause Kaal in his domains, has laid all sort of powerful traps, so that the soul may never ever think even by mistake of Wahiguru Akal Purukh.

You see, all this happens within. Wahiguru descends from His abode within, whenever He thinks fit so, and when He decides to finish His mission on earth here, He just goes from within along with that particular ray of His, in that particular body, back to Sach Khand.

The body is, just consciousless, is just a handful of dust, and there it returns, when disposed of.

It is we people who see the Guru Sahibans or Bhagats in the sargun swaroop, and tend to take them as individual beings, when the fact is, they are related to Wahiguru(Ocean), just as are the waves(sargun swaroop) to that ocean.

The waves take a shape and size, and seem they are separated for a time being, from the Ocean, but the fact is, that is just an illusion, because they are very much part and parcel of the Ocean in essence, but return and become one with the ocean, once their mission of coming here is fulfilled.

And we all know, the waves never stop emerging from the Ocean, they keep coming, nobody can stop them, if even if some want to..,

A wave emerges, from the sea at the seashore for a time being....

It returns back in the Ocean becoming One with It, and while this is happening, another wave is preparing to come at the seashore for a particular time being....

Different waves having enmerged at different times may look different in sizes, shapes or slightly different colors, but in essence they are same like the Ocean.

This is no man made law. This is the Divine Nature´s law, which no man, no god can change...

As long as there is a shore, waves will be coming from the Ocean.

This is due only to His Grace, Mercy and unlimited unconditional Love for us jeevas.

    Sat Sree Akal.

harsharan000 got a reaction from paapiman in Meaning of Satsangat (Word of the day)
As per the title of this thread which is about Satsangat, it could be well said, as we all know, Sat means Truth, and sangat means associtaion.
So what truth is being reffered here?
The Truth reffered here, is which we all know: Aad Sach, Jugad Sach, hae bhee Sach, nanak hosee bhee Sach.
Means, that Truth which is eternal that Truth which is changeless,  that Truth which is formless, beyond the parameters of time and space.
And so which is that Truth, that Truth is Satnam, which Sree guru Nanak Dev Maharaj mentions right from the begining of the Bani. This truth is also known as Waheguru, Amrit Bani, Anhad Bani, Shabad or Nam.
Then, who does the sangat with that truth or Sach?
    Is it he body?
No for the body is perishable, is limited, thus can not see nor perceive that subtle Truth, at most it can only repeat or sing His praises.
    Then, is it the mind?
No, for the mind is also perishable, and is the cause of our imprisonment in the Triloki mayavee creation of braham.
But yes, that much can be said, if initially we repeat His Name  with the mind, such is the power of Nam, that the mind gets subdued and defeated,  it looses the grip upon the soul, thus the soul, the jeev atma, is cleansed from all the karmas, and is freed forever from the cycle of births and deaths, only then, can the soul with the aid of shabad Guru, move ahead towards its Nijh Ghar of Sach Khand, and merge in Waheguru Akal Purukh.
This constant struggle and efforts of the soul to remain at all times in the devotion of Waheguru Akal Purukh through His chintan, His jaap, can be accounted as Satsangat, for that time being, we are away from the creation, and have Him, as Truth/Sach  as our anchor or support only.
So ultimately, it is our own true self as soul, which does the sangat of Waheguru, the supreme Truth,  through His Bhakti.

    Sat Sree Akal.

harsharan000 got a reaction from sevak in Awasthas of naam simran
    Dear Paappi ji,
different people may give you different valid replies, but that much  in simple words I may tell you that there are 3 stages.
The first one is of realization.
Here one realizes the importance of this type of bhakti of meditating of which you are asking.
We all agree, we are sinners, and our sins are the huge barrier between us and  our beloved Lord Waheguru. Therefore we want to get purified with His grace, in order to go there where He is and merge in Him.
In this respect the Bani tells us:
    ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
    Pathith Paavan Har Naamaa ||
The Lord's Name is the Purifier of sinners.
So firstly,  we realize that if there is any such thing which can purify us, is that one of  meditating on His holy Name only.

Then the second stage is the one of application.
Means, we have to apply to a practical method, a jugtee, or let us say  Bhakti, in order to reach our goal, of that which one,  that  we realized its supreme importance in the first stage, and as said, it was of getting purified.
Now here once again, different questions may arise  in different minds, some may ask,   how much time should one engage in this practice.... minutes? hours? days? timings?  Or some may even think of substituing it with other practices, for that is what they have mainly seen others doing...
But fortunately we have Guru Jee with us, to remind and correct us, and bring us back to the right path again and again, for as Guru Jee tells us :
gur satgur kaa jo sikh akhaa-ay so bhalkay uth har naam Dhi-aavai.
One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru, shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Lord's Name.
Not only that much, rather Guru goes a step further by telling us :
Kirapaa Keejai Saa Math Dheejai Aath Pehar Thudhh Dhhiaaee ||
Show Your Mercy, and bless me with such understanding, that I may meditate on You, twenty-four hours a day.
Some may protest and say, why 24 hours?
This also has an explanation, Guru Jee never says anything without a solid reason.  Though it is clear, that in the early morning hours we should meditate on Him, but, when He says all the 24 hours, it means, all the maximun time possible should be done, while eating,  walking, waiting, jogging, bathing etc.... every step towards Him counts in our favor, for having kept His name the maximum time of the day in our minds, then the result is, that we are unconciouslly subduing the mind, so, when on the next day we sit to meditate in the early hours, our mind will be almost groggy and will not be able to play mischiefs with us, by distracting us with its countless thoughts being poured continously....
The the other reason for which Guru Jee tells us to meditate on Him, all the 24 hours, that is becuase He knows how stupid and weak we are, so in this way, we will focus only on what He wants us to do and not do any sort of manmat of our which we usually do....

And the last and third stage, is that of transformation.
In this respect the Bani says:
Jin Har japeeya se Har hoeeya.
He who repeats His Name, becomes Him.
Thus we are transformed by getting purified with His name, from an alone and a wandering soul in pain, caught in the net  of the ceaseless chaurasee ka chakar, into the Infinte and blissful Waheguru Akal Purukh.
This in short, is the mahima of  Waheguru and the bhakti of meditating upon His Nao, His Nam, Satnam...

    Stay blessed.

harsharan000 got a reaction from Premi in Getting Darshan of a Brahmgyani.
One more thing I would like to add in this beautiful thread is that, be it any Brahmgyani of any time, past, present or future, they meet or give darshan to those only who are mentioned to Them by Waheguru Akal Purukh.
Nobody can ever do anything by their own will, it is all Waheguru´s Hukum.  This we have to bear in mind, be it Guru Sahiban, be it Sant Jan, be it Gurmukhs, be it Bhagat Jan.... all act under  the Hukum of Waheguru.
Then also, related to this topic, I read sometime ago, that Brahmgyanis are like someone standing on top of the hill at night, from where  they can see the houses  down there which have the lights switched on,  thus those are the ones they go to visit or arrange in someway to meet them and give them whatever Waheguru´s hukum is for them.
Having said that, none of us know where or who is a Brahmgyani, for not knowing, we don´t even know what is going on in our next room, so how to look for that Brahmgyani?
Nevertheless, there is still an option left for us  by His grace, and that is to switch on the light of His Nam within us, by meditating on His sachaa  Nao, as seen throughout the Bani.
Who knows, when that Brahmgyani sees that the Jot of His Nam is lit within us through the Jaap of it  from the top of the hill, thus arrange accordingly to meet Them.
Brahmgyanis need not like us to go physically anywhere, for them the whole "kaynat" is an open book, right from Sach Khand to Patal Lok, nothing is hidden from them, thus they see the Jot in those beings from anywhere thery maybe, and know that they have an order for that jeeva from Akal Purukh to be delivered
Physicall darshan of Them is lovely, is most beautiful, is most valuable, is balhaar, but their real darshan is the one of Their spiritual form.
What mahima  to sing of Their physical darshan? Not everybody values it.
For example, Prithi Chand had Akal Purukh as his father, and another form of Akal Purukh as his brother, but inspite of living under the same roof and having Their physical darshan 24 x 7 , he did not recognize the reality of Them, thus remained wicked as he was .
It is by having the spiritual darshan of Them, that one stops commiting nonsense, for then, there is quite some spiritual purity in us by Their grace, thus be able to have Their darshan.

    Brother,
It is not the amount of bhakti of anyone which can ever enable anyone to be worthy to have Their darshan, though that also purifiy us, and undoubtedly pleases Waheguru as seen in the Bani,  but it is only by Their beant kirpa that they reveal themselves to that wadbhagee jeev who selflessly and full heartedly, with utter love and devotion engages himself / herself in doing that correct bhakti.
All our efforts are like 0, but even that 0 has to be written by us on the slate, and then They as being the embodiment of all mercy, they just put  the 1(one) in front of our 0(zero), thus convert that 0  into 10 out of 10.
We all have heavy karmic load, so unless they extend their arm and pull us out, there is not much we can do.
Though as beggars, we should never leave their door, and keep up the knocking, for He the owner of His house, knows when to open the door and is willing to open it, but alas, there is hardly anybody doing the knocking, for all are busy with the manmat practices as seen mostly.
The bhakti which pleases Them/ Him, and draws us closer to Them, is the one of meditating upon His saacha Nao.
    The Bani beautifully tells us:
    DARSHAN PAAVA JHE TUDH BHAVAA.
So in short, the secret to have Their darshan, is to please Them, with Nam bhakti.
    Stay blessed.

We are all here to be helpful to each other as much as possible, keeping aside our differences,  jealousies, short sightedness,  ill thinking....
Then there will be only healthy relations, we all have one goal : Waheguru.
    That is it.
We should never try to impose or manipulate anyone, conscioussly  or unconscioussly, if anybody accepts our advise, is o.k;  if not, it does not matter much, for we lose nothing. But we should never ever disrespect nor thrash anybody.
I can proudly say, you are a good guy, with your behaviour, you are an example on this forum, and believe it,  it is no free propaganda.
    Keep it up bro.

    Soulfinder Jee,
brother Ragmala has given a sound reply above as seen.
Nobody can satisfy other´s hunger. If you are hungry, you have to eat and masticate the food morsels by yourself, in order to satisfy your hunger.
In that respect, waheguru has kept within all of us in same measure, the wealth of Nam, it depends on each of us, as how much dhanvaan we want to become, by gathering that true wealth of Nam within us, to which there is no limitation, nor any taxation deducted by Kal upon that income.
    Sarb rog ka aukhad Nam.
Do His chintan, His bhakti, as much as possible, and all our sins shall get washed gradually, thus our suffering will start diminishing. Remember our pain, our failures, our success, or be it any other thing, is due to our own karmas; but anyhow, the all mercifull Waheguru has also given us the medicine of His holy Name to be taken as much as possible, in order to nullify all our karmas.
That is it brother, stay blessed.
    SSA.
