Following is one of the best  articles I have ever come through, which I would like to share with the Sangat here, hope you enjoy:

A wise man was sitting in his study room and reading literature.
He was mesmerized by the beauty of writing, and was literally feeling the book.
Suddenly, a young guy, in his late twenties arrived along with his father. He had recently lost his mother and was in deep agony and couldn't get over the loss. His father brought him to the wise man.
Even after noticing them and exchanging greetings, the wise man kept reading for a while.
After he completed the chapter, he looked at the father and son, and asked 'So, how is life?’
The father told him everything, while his son started weeping profusely.
The wise man, handed over a tissue to the young guy and said: 'Son, did you notice what was I doing, when you arrived?’
In broken voice the guy replied: 'Sir, you were reading a book.'
‘Okay, nice. You know, why did I keep reading even though you guys were waiting?’
'I don't know' the young guy replied.
‘Because it was a beautiful chapter and I wanted to read it in one go.’
Takes a pause and speaks again-
‘Son, I want an advice from you, shall I read this chapter again and again, or move ahead, and continue reading the book further'
The young guy thought for a few seconds and said-
‘Sir, you have already read the chapter with immense interest and dedication, it has been stored in your mind now, you can remember it any time, thus you must continue reading the other chapters'
The wise man smiled and said: ‘Thank you son, I will definitely follow your advice. Would you also like to follow the advice you just gave.’
‘I didn't get you Sir?’ The young guy replied in confusion.
‘Your life is nothing but a book. Chapter after chapter, life will keep unfolding itself, neither the most beautiful chapters will stay forever, nor the tough ones. You read a beautiful and long chapter in your mother. It was full of love, care, and selflessness, and now it has come to an end, you must end it graciously and keep it's memories alive, and move ahead with the book. If you get stuck here, you will ruin the spirit of the book of your life.’
The guy kept looking at the wise man with tears in his eyes for a while.
Wise man continued speaking: ‘I assure you that till you keep your mother alive in your memories, she would never die.’
The young guy nodded his head, as the wise man’s words created a huge impact on him.
Soon he got over with the immense grief of losing his mother, and remembered her wonderful memories.
The bookish advice which can do wonders to your thoughts us-
‘Every good thing in life shall come to an end one day or the other, we must cherish memories and move ahead in life, instead of prolonging the grief and staying in a state of disbelief.’
This advice can work for the smallest of things to the biggest of losses.

Why do we need a Master (Guru)?

Once upon a time, a cow went out to graze in the jungle. Suddenly, she noticed a tiger racing towards her. She turned and fled, fearing that at any moment the tiger would sink his claws into her. The cow desperately looked for someplace to escape and at last, saw a shallow pond. Barely evading the tiger’s reach, she jumped into the pond, and in the heat of the chase, the tiger blindly leaped after her.
To the surprise of them both, the pond was extremely shallow yet filled with deep recesses of mud. After toppling over each other, the cow and the tiger found themselves a short distance apart, stuck in the mud up to their necks. Both had their heads above water but were unable to free themselves no matter how much they writhed.
The tiger repeatedly snarled at the cow and roared, “I am going to enjoy the sound of crunching your bones between my teeth!”
He thrashed about in fury but soon became fretful as he found no prospect of escape.
The cow thoughtfully laughed as the tiger struggled to free himself and asked him, “Do you have a master?”
The tiger disdainfully replied, “I am the king of the jungle. Why do you ask me if I have a master? I myself am the master!”
The cow said, “You may be the king of the jungle, but here all your power has failed to save your life.”
“And what about you?” Retorted the tiger. “You are going to die here in this mud too!”’
The cow smiled mildly and said, “No, I am not.”
“If even I, the king of the jungle cannot free myself from this mud”, snapped the tiger, “Then how can you, an ordinary cow?”
The cow gently replied, “I cannot free myself from this mud, but my master can. When the sun sets and he finds me absent at home, he will come looking for me. Once he finds me, he will raise me up and escort me home sweet home.”
The tiger fell silent and coldly glared at the cow.
Soon enough, the sunset and the cow’s master arrived. He immediately recognized the plight she was in and lifted her to safety. As they walked home, the cow and the master both felt renewed gratitude for one another and pitied the tiger they both would have been happy to save if only the tiger had allowed them.
The cow represents a surrendered heart, the tiger represents an egoistic mind, and the master represents the Guru.  The mud represents the world, and the chase represents the struggle for existence therein.

Its good to be independent and not rely on anyone. But don't take it to an extreme, you always need a partner/coach/mentor who will be always on the lookout for you.
Having them does not mean you are weak, it's just that you can be stronger with their help.
Make sure to share this story with your partner/coach/mentor and express your gratitude.

Question 8: Sachay Patshah, I have an doubt in my mind so I am confused, please clear it,  I see so many people performing so many types of devotions, each one with fasting, pilgrimages, recitations, pujas, bathing in so called holy waters, etc, so then, among all these devotions/practices, which one is accepted in the Lord´s court/darbar, or should I do all of them when such ocassions arises?
Guru Jee: listen carefully my  dear sikh,
    ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਨ ॥
Prabh Ko Simarehi Sae Jan Paravaan ||
    प्रभ कउ सिमरहि से जन परवान ॥
Only those who do simran/meditate on the Lord, they are approved in His Court.

Question 9:  Sachay Patshah, though you stress so much upon Nam throughout the Bani, why is it so that hardly anybody pays attention to it?
Guru Jee : That is because His name is the most precious gem, the jeevas are not to be blamed much about it, for it is not in their hands to do His Simran, because,  it is only by His hukum/grace/mercy, that, those chosen ones, meditate on Him, the rest are occupied in  doing so many other things  which are not my teachings, thus forgetting  or being blind to the Truth of Nam .
    ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
Simaran Thae Laagae Jin Aap Dhaeiaalaa ||
    सिमरन ते लागे जिन आपि दइआला ॥
They alone hold to the remembrance of Him, unto whom He Himself shows His Mercy.
