  10. Punjab has been witness to the emergence of a large number of Deras due to the continued social exclusion and pervading inequality in the social and economic order that refuses to go away despite the rise of Sikhism which in normative terms is opposed to caste based discrimination and glorifies manual labour. In Punjab, the number of Deras are not in hundreds but in thousands. A study conducted by the Desh Sewak, a Punjabi newspaper published from Chandigarh, gives figures that there are more than 9000 Sikh as well as non-Sikh Deras in the 12,000 villages of Punjab. Many of the dera movements started as reform movements in Sikhism but with passage of time they became anti-Sikh and started believing in bodily form of gurus. Here, we will discuss about the Top 10 Most Prominent Anti-Sikh Deras in Punjab: http://singhstation.net/2014/10/top-10-most-prominent-anti-sikh-deras-in-punjab/
  11. TarnTaran, Jodhpur – The Punjab Police has never been a force for the people. It neither serves nor protects, unless you are part of the Indian establishment, government, or have been provided special sanction by the government. Today was no different. Today, on Tuesday, 28th Oct, the Punjab Police shot and opened gunfires at Sikhs protesting in village Jodhpur in TarnTaran against an anti-panthic program organized by supporters of dead Ashutosh Noormehlia of the Divya Jyoti Jagran Sansthan. Leaders of the Sikh organisations alleged that two policemen attached with the dera followers opened fire, injuring several Sikh youths. Among those injured are Kanshi Ram, Jasmeet Singh, Jaswinder Kaur and Subheg Singh, all dera followers, and constable Tajinder Singh. A grievously injured Sikh youth was admitted to a hospital in Amritsar. However, The dera followers accused the police of inaction. They alleged that the Sikh organisations had threatened them against holding the satsang, which was why the police had been deployed in the village. According to sources, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala has got a gunshot at his leg and is in serious condition. 6 others have also been reported as injured during firing. The situation in the village has been described as tense. The Akal Takht jathedar, Giani Gurbachan Singh, has asked the state government to initiate action against the dera supporters for their “anti-Sikh activities”. He has sought action against the police constables who reportedly opened fire at Sikh youths during the clash. http://singhstation.net/2014/10/police-attack-sikhs-protesting-anti-panthic-program-noormahaliye-tarntaran/

  20. Miani, Tanda – A pall of gloom descended at a Tanda village, Miani, on the eve of Bandi Chhor Diwas as 28 years old Baljinder Singh fell down from 60feet height trying to change the ‘chola’ sahib’ of the Nishan Sahib (cloth wrapped around the Nishan Sahib) in the village gurdwara. According to sources, the mishap took place when one of the rusty iron wires, with which the Nishan Sahib was tied, got broken. His Uncle Jagtar Singh Billa, Head Granthi of Gurdwara Sahib Ranjit Singh and other members of Management Committee were present at the time of the horrible scene. Baljinder Singh was immediately taken to Civil Hospital in Tanda where he was referred to Jalandhar hospital but he could not survive any longer there and died. Baljinder Singh with his daughter Jujhar Kaur, 2 yrs old now Gurdwara Head Granthi Ranjit Singh told that the Chola Sahib sewa is done every year a day after Bandi Chhor Diwas but this year Baljinder Singh offered to do this sewa on the day of Bandi Chhor Diwas itself. Inspite of the wire being rusty and very old, Baljinder Singh was in full spirits to do this sewa without any fear. Baljinder Singh had recently gone to Australia on student visa in Australia. He was a very dedicated Sikh and has also participated in Panj Pyare Sewa at Sydney Gurdwara as well in the past. Baljinder Singh has left his wife, who he got married to only three years back and a beautiful daughter Jujhar Kaur, 2 years old only. His mother had only died six months back due to cancer as well. May Waheguru ji bless his departed soul and bless the family behind to bear his loss. Source: http://singhstation.net/2014/10/australia-returned-baljinder-singh-died-nishan-sahib-seva-tanda/
