Good point by Shaheediya. Just as water can be transformed into Amrit by the Panj who recite the 5 banis infront of it, Kara can be transformed into Parshad by the touch of a Sarbloh Kirpan similarly I don't see why water cannot be transformed into something more by reciting Bani next to it. It's all to do with Shardha at the end of the day. I also beleive that the Sarover at Harimandir Sahib is no ordinary water. It's my beleif that taking Ishnaan in that Sarovar is not some empty ritual.

Gurbani is Mantar Roop. Many Mahpursh repeatedly recite shabds like a Mantar. Recently many modern thinking Sikhs such as Kala Afghanist, missionaries etc discourage repetitive recitation of Shabds. They discourage Sikhs from doing it by ridiculing it as being too Hindu or by calling it tota raTnaa. This new movement within Sikhs is similar to the Wahabi movement of the Muslims who also make it their goal to discard anything they see as being "un Islamic", which includes doing Zikr of Gods names or repatitive recitation of Quranic verses.

This new movement within religions around the world with people thinking with too much logic is actually damaging religions than making it better. Firstly it destroys people's Shardaa for their Dharm. With less Sharda comes the down fall of your jeevan.

I know a guy long ago who had alot of Sharda for Sikhi. He was an Amritdhari with a long flowing beard. But later on he started reading Sikh missionary books. Sikh missionaries always promote too much logical thinking rather than Sharda. Soon he started analysing everything like a scientist when it came to matters of faith. It wasn't long before the guy cut his hair because the Sharda inside him was almost dead.

Many Mahpursh like Sant Jagjit Singh Harkhowalwalay encourage people to do many Paaths of Japji Sahib a day. These spiritual masters themselves have practical spiritual experience that people like us don't have. Yet we also have many worldly logical thinking Sikh missionary leaders who discourage it. Recently some big hot shot Sikh missionary guy from Gurdaspur is doing alot of Parchar against people who do too much paaths of Japji Sahib or Sukhmani Sahib or just Shabds.

Point is, matters of faith sometimes require Sharda rather then worldly logical thinking. Ideally we need to think with Sharda plus logical thinking. But that logical thinking should be based on Sikh traditions. By Sikh traditions I mean examples and traditions of the Gurus, great Sikh Mahpursh. Even the example of the Bhaggats of Kaliyug and of previous yugs (whose names are mentioned in Gurbani) are to be followed as exampliary Saints.

You can recite it out loud or silently, kamai is considered to be greater when recited silently.

It's for protection, for shaheed singhs to do rakhya. Gyani Thakur Singh explained it to me thus, Think of Mool Mantr as the raja, and this mantr (Chachri Chand, Tav Prasaad) as the general.

My understanding is that any Gurbani can do anything, but different shabads tend to have a greater thrust in a particular direction.

I know,...I really know. Of course it's foolish. You can't have your dyaan elsewhere and be uttering God's name expecting forgiveness for sins and acceptance in his court.  Yes, this story is referred to in Gurbani and I clearly know that it is always grasped from the wrong end of the stick.
Most people and kathavachaks even, talk about the uttering of God's name and how the syllables of "Narayan" helped to clear Ajamal's sins, even though he wasn't meditating on the Lord.
The story goes further than this and the message is that after uttering Narayan,  Ajamil was saved from the messengers of Dharamraj (the jams) because they were intervened by Lord Vishnu, who claimed he was to protect anyone that utters the name of Narayan.  Some debate goes on between them and Dharam and Adharam is discussed..Ajamil witnessed this and came out of this NDE(near death experience).    The deeper message was that Ajamil realised and awakened to his senses, awoke to his wrongs, and awoke to who his real maker was. He was now aware that the  Lord's name has so much power, and he said to himself  "what will happen if I utter it even further and to him directly"?.
The message was about showing the dharam and someone(guru) to show the way, it leaves you working out who guru is and how you may need some to guide you from dark-->Light..etc.....Anyway, story goes that Ajamil left and spent the rest of his days in deep meditation to Akaal purakh by some river banks. I believe he attained greater heights in bhakti and was enlightened.(I don't quite remember full details)
I know exactly what you are saying, that they all look at stories and texts very literally in all the faiths and just get it wrong. I have loads of meditative interpretations, especially with huge chunks of Christian bible. There is plenty of gurmat in there when you find it. We, the people, are the biggest fools, regardless of dharam.

Shaytaan is the same term as "satan". It is basically a huge negative and dark energy field that uses the powers of taking one from light -->> darkness.
Most people that have an average to low state of consciousness(manmuhs) will be influenced and affected by these lower powers. However, a person with a raised consciousness and someone who has ascended towards more light energy as compared to dark ie. from dark-->light, as with help of guru, will be untouched by such energy. On many instances, the bad energy or spell will bounce back multifold to the person trying to send it. The magician himself will always stay out of the energy transfer equation and is unaffected by such spells bouncing back.

Of course there is a judgement day per se. How do you think I came back? :)
Judgement day of when your lekha is presented and decided by Dharamraj, occurs for many individuals. Not everyone has the opportunity to be present in the court of the Lord. The very lowly sinners will go directly to narak (escorted by the jamdoots) and will remain there until they learn and realise. The very high avastha gurmukhs bypass all the realms and go directly into warming lap of Waheguru in sachkhand.
My personal understanding is that there are many individuals that may have had a good wealth of naam kamayee in previous janams, but in this janam they may have screwed up and accumulated an excess of bad karams and deeds. These are the ones that usually have their fate decided in the presence of Dharamraj and God's angels. Sometimes their previous kamayee may erase or sometimes they may have to be reborn just to bhog some karams. How these are dealt with is all in his hands and depends on what the balance of the lekha is and how the "hasaab" is balanced.

Both answers are partly correct and partly incorrect.
It is true to say that Guru Sahibs used mantras and procreated without having sex. It is also true to say that Guru Sahibs had sex to create children.
    But
What is not being understood here is how the absorption in a mantra can change the nature of sexual activity or indeed any activity (Karm).
The is known as the concept of Nish-Karm or Neh-Karm.
The idea is that your soul is like clay and any activity (karm) you perform leaves an imprint on soul. This imprint is known as Sanskar. So doing an activity without leaving imprints, is known as Nishkarm, or Nehkarm ਨਿਹਕਰਮ
In this way the actions you perform reduce suffering, instead of causing suffering. They become pure, they become good because they minimize the suffering that is produced.
There are many ways to perform activities like this.
I talked about this concept in this thread quoted below about - Krishan ji being celibate after having sexual intercourse.
And I spoke about it without giving any name to it, about the idea of doing activities without seeking fruits. That is essentialy Nishkarm.

Guru Arjun Dev ji says to his Sikhs and sets a standard for who they should strive to be. He says -

    ਬੈਸਨੋ ਸੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥
Those are Vaishnavs with whom Vishnu (nirankar) is pleased.

    ਬਿਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਭਿੰਨ ॥
He stands apart from the Maya that is created by Vishnu.
    ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥
They act without acting. They perform karma while being non-karma (Nishkarm/nehkarma).

    ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥
The Vaishnava who does this is doing pure Dharm.

So we gotta act without acting? Perform karma without performing karma? What is he talking about???
    Guru Sahib explains this -

    ਕਾਹੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥
Such a Vaishnav, does not desire for the fruits of his actions.

    ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ॥
He is attached to Bhagti and Kirtan, of worship and singing praises.

    ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
He meditates on Vishnu, inside his mind and body.

    ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
    He is kind to everyone.

    ਆਪਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥
He strengthens the power of Naam ("mantar technology"), that is meditation, inside himself and inspires others to chant as well and become more meditative.

    ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
Guru Arjun Dev ji says, such a Vaishnav, such a Sikh, obtains the Supreme State.

The idea that Guru Sahibs put forth is that your karma is essentially eliminated if you diminish your Ahankar, when you do not seek fruits of your actions, remaining absorbed in meditation.
    Performing actions in the zone.
In this manner, the action you perform becomes pure. If eliminates suffering instead of causing suffering.
So the idea that Guru Sahibs didn't have sex to procreate is correct because they did not seek fruits of their sexual intercourse. They remained fully absorbed in mantar sadhana, in the home of their Supreme Self. Their ahankar was diminished. ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥ They were being Nishkarm while having sexual intercourse.
In Bhagvad Gita, this process is also explained, through which one becomes Nishkarma. The process came to be known as Karma Yoga. To unite with the Supreme Being, through action/non-action.
    Btw
I am not just saying stuff I have read. I am speaking about this from my own experience as well. This can be done by anyone provided they are fully determined to do it... err I mean to non-do it. ;)

Actually none of us do. Its all part of illusion. We are not something separate from anything else. If ultimate truth is oneness of everything and everyone then this whole reality IS illusion. And you know, science can actually prove it! That matter is not real. Its just a perception. So really none of us actually take birth or die. Only the illusion physical body does. Its false to think of our soul as some separate thing that comes here separately from God. In reality ALL IS God. Every single person on this planet is God. Its like a dream of our Creator and we are the dream people who blissfully go about everything not knowing we are really dreaming. Gurus taught that we too can experience full wakefulness and knowledge of oneness while in this lifetime.
    Sāḏẖo ih ṯan mithi▫ā jān▫o.
Yā bẖīṯar jo rām basaṯ hai sācẖo ṯāhi pacẖẖāno. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Ih jag hai sampaṯ supne kī ḏekẖ kahā aidāno.

Physical life is not a punishment this is wrong thinking. Everything happens because of our own thought and actions and its only through this human form that we have the capacity finally where we can contemplate God.
Gobinḏ milaṇ kī ih ṯerī barī▫ā.  A dog does not sit there thinking, gee where did I come from. Neither does a cat, or a bird, or a tiger.  The plants have even less awareness. The only way to realize the Creator was through duality. It is a natural spiritual process. When there is no change, no separateness, there is no way to contemplate anything at all because there is nothing else to contemplate and no other perspective to realize self. Duality was the only way to progress into collectively fully developed awareness of self. Since all is really God, all is really God awakening to self.
A famous quote I always love is "The Universe is the act of the ONE creator God, experiencing itself subjectively through its own creation"  Think if you were only a pin point consciousness, and no external anything existed at all. No internal anything either. As soon as a thought sparks creation, duality happens as a consequence. The Gurus were fully God realized. But yes the physical body arrived the same way as every other physical body. If you say that God can only exist in a body which somehow arrived without being born, then you are dismissing the fact that ALL the other bodies which are also God. Because God IS ALL bodies. In fact God is all there is.  If we keep thinking we are some separate creation that is completely different than our Creator, like we were fashioned out of some clay or something and set somewhere far away from God, we will never understand. That God is inside us, all around us and IS US. Sohaʼn āp pacẖẖāṇī▫ai sabaḏ bẖeḏ paṯī▫ā▫e.  Gurmukẖ āp pacẖẖāṇī▫ai avar kė kare karā▫e. ||9||

This is what Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught us. Ėkā suraṯ jeṯe hai jī▫a.
Even Gurbani says see the same divine in everyone. There is no exception. There is only divine in existence. Learn to see past the illusion. You are only subject to birth and death because you have yet to surpass the illusion. Our task is to break this illusion. Learn to think of yourself as not this physical body. YOU do not take birth and YOU do not die, because YOU are NOT THE BODY! YOU are the atma within it. Your soul is not born and it does not die. Only a physical body does. But since you are NOT the physical body! This is why I got so irritated in the other thread because gender also does not matter. Its part of this FALSE body. Please stop thinking this body IS you! Think of it as a costume worn only in this temporary play. When you remove the costume you do not die or cease to exist. You go on. You have ALWAYS existed. You ARE everything and everyone because you are the divine, as is everything and everyone else. To say that anything is punishment is wrong, to say that only certain entities are God and not others is wrong. Everything is really One. I know its hard to think about until you can understand it and actually experience it, you can not wake up from the illusion.  Rāj bẖu▫i▫ang parsang jaise hėh ab kacẖẖ maram janā▫i▫ā.

Historically, men tended to have a greater number of masculine qualities (I'll call them yang) and women tended to have a greater number of feminine qualities (I'll call these yin qualities). Every individual has a mix, men tend to be more yang overall while women tend to be more yin. However, there are a minority of women who are more yang and a minority of men who are more yin. Subtlety is considered a yin quality, one that is useful and essential at times. Both genders have it of course, but women tended to be better at it. This quality can be used for good or for evil.
As society changes, the nature of our work and schooling change, and men tend to become more feminized while women become more masculinized. While men still may be overall more masculine and women overall more feminine the differences between the genders are much less in the younger generations and much greater  in the older generations. We now see more men than in the past using subtle tactics to harm opponents b/c their workplaces (offices as opposed to factories or farms) and schools create an environment where less obvious tactics may be rewarded while heavily penalizing more straightforward tactics. For example, a co-worker may subtly sabotage another's chances of promotion. So now the natures of the two genders become more similar .This is why young people have such trouble understanding Charitropakhyan.
Guru ji taught Sikhs how to be saints, and how to be soldiers, and he also had to teach his Sikhs how to live a good life in the world. If we were yogis we wouldn't need guides on how to deal with subtle manipulation tactics from people b/c we wouldn't be around people. But since we live in the world, and since we know how to deal with straightforward attacks (sipahi) he needed to teach us how to deal with subtle attacks. This is what Charitropakhyan does. Most of the stories are about women b/c in those days the subtle attacks would be done mostly by them. The thinking of men tended to be more linear and so they were not readily able to defend against such subtle attacks and this bani teaches how.

We all seems to be debating (sometimes not upfront but very subtly) that which religion is the best. But The Wise one say that:
“It is no doubt a good fortune to be born into a religion, but it is a misfortune to die in one.”
it means that one should strive to go beyond the religion (dogmatic point of view) but at the same time it's good to have some set of rules. i.e a boat (any religion/institution/organization/technique) was supposed to help us to go beyond but unfortunately we've made the boat our business. Now, the main purpose of the boat (which was to help us cross the ocean) has been forgotten but we've learnt the art of making super-advanced boats which can sail all life in the world ocean but don't bother to look for the shore. And then yet there are some, who after reaching the shore has insisted to take the boat to the place. Vah re maya!

All of that stuff has been said on this forum. Every single thing you are saying has been discussed on, argued on and it gotten to the point where no party was listening to each other but just getting on with the argument.
You are 13.. Only 13 living in America ( a place where so much freedom is given that option is on you how you gonna and wanna use that freedom ). Even if you are given no freedom you can still get it. I don't know if your words are exactly your words or are being influenced by reading posts on this forum. Let's talk about being a housewife like your mom. I have not met a single Indian family who does not want their kids to excel in academic area and land a perfect job. Most of the mundey either getting on with drugs or driving trucks so parents always have high hopes from their daughters. Being happy and unhappy is such a weird phenomena, you can have everything and you can still be unhappy or you can be a penniless but can be the happiest person ever . However, let's agree that your family will force you to be a housewife then you always have the option to make it clear that you wanna have a career and work. Your husband will help you to have a career. This thing you should not be worrying and thinking about at the age of 13 to be honest .
I won't talk about why harimandar sahib Ji is not allowing women do Seva since I will never question why women are given the right to give birth and men not. And so many other rituals and rules which goes above our head but are there. Things like laws where you slap a man and people laugh with you but if you slap a woman they will be ready to kill. There are advantages and disadvantages of being a man and woman . This issue has been discussed and there are many other places which allows women to do all Seva and instead of fighting with the people who are non supportive, let's go to them who are supportive. We can waste our whole life fighting about who is given more priveledge and if we do the math, we will realize we women are not that victim as much we are calling ourself . You are pretty young, don't and I mean don't get influenced with things you read or hear.
Why vaheguroo loves men more than women ?
And how exactly we have gotten to this conclusion? Oh based on the perception that society thinks men can have more freedom and able to do Seva at gurughar and women can't so god loves men more than women. Then think about all those people at this moment crying for food, God must have hated them so much that they are born like this. People suffering from diseases, dying every single day are the most hatred people by God?
you are only 13 and your thinking is Making me sad since all the stuff you said is exactly the words of other member and please don't go on that route. This women rights thing will get you so crazy that you will forget the real meaning of life.
Everybody regardless of their gender go through phases where they feel their life is worthless no matter how much money, status they have. It's human nature, only people who do meditation and do good deeds feel good about their lives .  Very few are those who can stay happy. Don't think your life is doomed since you are assuming all these things. Good and bad days both will come until you will learn there is no difference between them and it will take quite a time to get there unfortunately but it's all worth it lol
I don't know where I am going with this but you gotta change your thinking and instead of looking all the stuff you saying. Look into the things you can do. Start with baby steps, look for the things you can do but your bro ether can't? Parents have their different ways to show love. I used to complain that my brother would get new clothes and I used to wear his used one. But my brother was more spoiled one and I was the easy one to listen so I was helping mom dad financially by wearing my brothers used school uniform lol. That time I never got it and now I know I helped them. I did get new clothes but those were girly ones. Even my friends used to get their older sisters used clothes so gender has nothing to do with it. Some parents love girls more than boys and it's pretty common and it has nothing to do with gender . I have never seen men complaining, they actually feel happy. My brother appreciate now when mom treating me really nice and he joins her and I kinda get extra attention . The point is everybody have their own way of showing love.
Don't feel bad about being a woman, anybody who calls you unclean and dirty has to clean itself first. You are the only one who can judge where you stand, what other says will be useless since their opinion are their perceptions not your reality . I have never felt bad about being a woman, always felt blessed. Being a woman is a huge blessing, without women this world will stop so why think bad about oneself . Gurbani never put women down and 10th Master never hated women. I think you are referring to CK series, you are only 13. Start with what is good rather than what you assume is not good. Start with cultivating love first and see how it changes you . YouTube Hans wilheim, I am too lazy to upload but worth listening .
