  1. This is so tragic, Ravail Singh and Avtar Singh were two popular Sikh leaders of the Afghans. Unlike Indian sikh leaders, these two had a huge backing and following by the Afghan Sikh community in Afghanistan and abroad. I can't see how the Afghan Sikhs will cope with their leadership destroyed. God bless these shaheeds. "On Sunday, in what seems to be a targeted attack, Khalsa was among 20 killed in a suicide blast in Jalalabad. Khalsa and the others were travelling to meet Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, who had just inaugurated a hospital in Jalalabad. One of his sons, Narinder Singh Khalsa, was injured in the attack. Khalsa was to fight the elections in October and was touted to win a seat in the parliament. Few Afghans are as invested in the government’s quest for peace and stability as the dwindling Sikh and Hindu minorities, which have been decimated by decades of conflict. The community numbered more than 80,000 in the 1970s, but today only around 1,000 remain. A father of four, he lived his life mostly in Kabul, and served as a senator representing the minority. Khalsa also led a delegation of Sikhs and Hindus to meet Indian ambassador to Kabul Vinay Kumar last month. Khalsa also reportedly served at various ranks in the Afghan army. Sikhs and Hindus have been driven out of many areas by heavy fighting. They have suffered widespread discrimination in the conservative Muslim country and have also been targeted by Islamic extremists." https://www.news18.com/news/india/sikh-leader-avtar-singh-khalsa-champion-of-afghan-rights-among-those-killed-in-jalalabad-blast-1797697.html
  2. I think this charitar is a mirror of the fram story where the King enacts a great war for the sake of attaining a specific woman he wants. Here you have the female enacting a great war for a specific man she wants. The wise minister might be trying to convey ethics of war to the king now: Can you enact huge wars for the sake of material Things/ lust etc? There are some hints in the charitar that points to a new theme of dharam yudh rules: 1) being a Coward if one fights with a woman 2) negating notions of honor and shame in warfare 3) the Whole battle seems to be portrayed as a Loose/Loose situation.
  3. There are some video recordings of the British of kirtan at golden temple, early 1900s.
  4. What is the evidence that he was a spy and from what year onwards was he a spy ? Was it post maharaja ranjit singh?
  5. Also conjecture: It says the woman does jantra mantra And hooks up with a jatt. There is thus use of “Hindu terminology” as Muslim jatts are often called chaudry rather than jatt. Also Muslims doesn’t do jantra mantra. Later she reads the Koran. Is it possible that she is a Hindu who recently became Muslim (by force?) and therefore have a mixed unstable practice - a foot in both worlds. The way she is unstable and caught inbetween her old and new world, so too is the rani of the frame story unstable and caught between loyalty to the old kingdom and her new kingdom. She to was forced to go from one world(kingdom) to the other. The wise minister is warning the king that he needs to be alert on her loyalty towards the king who killed her father and family. She is plotting something
  6. It’s the same Theme as the previous: using goodness to cover deception. In the earlier charitar telling the truth was used to deceive a person. In this, reading the Koran and appearing holy is used to deceive the husband. Topic: doing something that is normally considered good as a way to hide deception
  7. What is ssggsj? Sarbloh Granth ? The first one is a huge sakhi book of all the gurus. The second I don’t know
  8. Isn’t he the author of the Huge Gur pad prem Prakash and Khalsa Shatak Granth ?
  9. Yeah I wondered about that too. Mine looks different and is only one volume
  10. Many great gursikhs were celibate, Bhai gurdas, baba deep singh, Giani Gian Singh etc
  11. Isn’t he a udasi writer from the maharaja period ? He wrote the Nanak vijay Granth and I think ten other books. He is the one who states That guru Jee creates two gaddis, one for Guru Angad and one for baba Sri Chand. Both running parallel in the same direction
  12. In Dasam Bani in Gian Prabodh there is a description of a court from the Mahabharat, that appear to be a description of the Guru's own darbaar. In it, it states that in the darbaar, classical dancing is practiced. Sridasam.org website is down so I can't find the quote, and searchgurbani search tool is absolutely lame
  13. Overall you start seeing a "Talebanisation" of SIkhi these years with a ban on everything that manifests artistic expression, whether music, dance, painting etc. It's quite sad actually and completely ahistorical.
  14. Dancing is an expression of art and helps to tune in and 'let go' to musical rhythm. Kids that can't feel their own emotions often train this through music and dance as it helps them to feel a connection with something external (music) and internal (their body). Yes sure there are some that misuse it but that does'nt mean it per se becomes wrong. It's like those people that say it's wrong to clap and 'do rhythms' with your body when listening to kirtan.
  15. Also the term comes 37 times in Gurbani:
  16. I dont understand? How else would you pronounce it? It is pronounced such because that is how it is to be pronounced, as testified by scholars throughout the centurues from Bhai Gurdas to Kavi Santokh Singh all the way till today.
