    Sabh to aad Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Mahraj uses the term amritpaan so its not correct to say that amritpaan is a very recent term

    Its only dodgy if you don't believe in panj kakkar rehit.

    I did not realise that believing in the most basic principles of Sikhi means you must be a Singh Sabhia sympathiser!
    Vaheguru being gurmantar is in Bhai Gurdas Ji Di Vara, Sarbloh Granth and many many more sources.

    You are majorly contradicting yourself when on the one hand you say that the language is modern and unlike old texts, and then admit that its highly inspired by Sri Dasam Granth! Make up your mind!

    What is the point of discussions like this? What exactly do you want to see? A confused and divided panth? A sikhi where no one actually knows anything at all and there are no agreed principles. Is that what you'd like?

    Because the namdharis have preserved havan its got to be a pratan tradition? give me a break mate. Slowly slowly its like certain people are just trying to undo basically every basic, unquestioned principle of sikhi...

    I don't think we are meant to take the contents of Chaubis Avatar literally, Guru Sahib states quite clearly at the start it is a narration. In my humble opinion, chaubis avatar's purpose is for us to understand the so called story of the 24 avatars, due to there being a reference to quite a few events of these supposed avatars' lives within gurbani, and also an action against elitist brahmins and ofcourse to learn lessons of character. However, I do not feel that it everything written their is meant to be taken as exactly what we are supposed to believe. The story of 24 avatars is an old one, and Guru Maharaj has shared that story as it is, with some commentary. I think this commentary is of utmost importance, especially the beginning:

    ਜੋ ਚਉਬੀਸ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
    Jo chaubees avtaar kahaae||
    Those who are called twenty-four incarnations;

    ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਨਕ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
    Tin bhitum Prabh tanak na paae||
    O Lord ! they even could not realise thee in a small measure;

    ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਗ ਭਰਮੇ ਭਵ ਰਾਯੰ ॥
    Sabh hijag bharme bhav raayang||
    They became kings of the world and got deluded;

    ਤਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਕਹਾਯੰ ॥੭॥
    Taa te naam(u) biant kahaayang||7||
    Therefore they were called by innumerable names.

    Chaubis Avatar should be read as what it is, the narration of a known, already told story, where are we to believe that this is our own belief? If I shared the story of Jesus' crucifiction, with part of that story stating that Jesus is the true Messiah, does this mean that I believe this personally and also that I am saying directly to you, or I am just narrating what others believe?

    For this reason, I don't believe in the coming of any avtar. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the past, present and future of all and the only saviour is Guru Maharaj and his sobha - the khalsa.

    'Amardeep' ji, i know your post was not addressed to me, however if I can humbly comment, take it if you want but historical sources should only be relied on so much. They have a tendency to get adultered-especially sikh ones, and many wrote with agendas in the first place. Whats important is to test them against gurbani, but thats up to you.

    and in regards to vishnu, heres something from bachitar natak sahib ji:

    (Sri Akal Purakh Sahib Ji Maharaj speaking to dhan dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj/ Dusht Daman Sahib Ji Maharaj)

    I destroyed them(daityas) in no time and created gods in their place.
    They were also absorbed in the worship of power and called themselves Ominipotednt.7.
    Mahadeo (Shiva) was called Achyuta (blotless), Vishnu considered himself the Supreme.
    Brahma called himself Para Brahman, none could comprehend the Lord.8.

    Vaheguroo Sahib has no avatar, he is Nirgun Vaheguroo, and Sargun form is Guru Form of Shabad, and finally Guru's form also can be said to be in his true Sikh.

    Actually Guru Maharaj is already here as others have said, Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, this stuff about "Guru sahib coming back" comes from complete lack of faith in Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and viewing Sahib ji as nothing more than a book.
    As Guru Maharaj has already inferred physical power onto Guru Panth and Panj Pyare, it will be the Panj Pyare in full power (not before seen) that will establish Khalsa Raj, NO SINGLE INDIVIDUAL has been given such power. Do we have such little faith in Guru Granth Sahib Ji that we don't think he can do it? Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj will infuse his sikhs with power beyond limits, his panj Pyare will be given his duties.

    great post "chatanga"

    Can anyone honestly tell me what is more powerful than Vaheguru himself? Gurmantar is Vaheguru himself and i believe that I need his power only, the power which is sitting inside me, watching me 24/7, dam dam sadha samaldha dham na birtha jaae. I need no mantar jantar, I need only to be pleasing to my lord and that is when I have EVERYTHING.
    and insult me all you want, makes no difference, you are only insulting yourself- sabh mai jot jot hai soee tis de chanan sabh mai chanan hoee
    I can understand fully why everyone is so ready to except these complicated drawn out things, its maya its a distraction. Our minds were designed so that we always will go for falsehood instead of truth. Understand the teachings of maharaj who is sitting with us and he will tell you the one thing, the one shabad, which is truth alone.
    You may feel you are more learned than me with your knowledge of of different aarths of Gurbani, geetas, vedas, history etc. yes you are more knowledgable than me, but these boil down to nothing in the end. Simple innocent love and faith are all that matters, whether this seems to you like a fairy i don't know and dont care.

    The following is a short story translated from "Gurmukh Darshan"
    Author : Giani Kirpal Singh Jee

    This took place ~1927, when Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh jee Khalsa was ~25years old.

    "In those days there werern't many sevadaars that could recite GurbaNee in Sri Akhand Paath Sahib correctly; these sevaadaars were rare. Due to this reason, our village's Nihung Singh Bhai Taara Singh jee, Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Jee and myself would be asked to fulfill the seva of Sri Akhand Paath sahib. Also worth noting, Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh jee were always found to be in a tranquil and worriless state of mood. Furthermore, Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh jee would never accept any monetary donations for fulfilling his duties as an Akhand Paath sevadaar.

    One time in Doaba, there was a Sri Akhand Paath sahib that had already commenced, Baba jee had completed the duty of Sri Akhand Paath seva at 4am and went to a nearby room and started reciting his Nitnem dee banee, while reading he fell asleep. From a nearby room, we heard a voice reciting Gurbanee out loud, out of curiosity myself and other singh's went to the voice. We found it was Baba Jee reciting Gurbanee in his sleep. We went and sat around him and we had listened to him do paath for a half hour in which time we noticed that he had started reading Gurbanee from Sri Akhand Paath sahib. He had left his sevaa for Sri Akhand Paath Sahib at "sorath raag" that is exactly where he had continued reciting from in his sleep. The other sevaadaars that were sitting there listening to him noticed that he had not made a single error in his recitation, we were all left amazed."

    http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,160,166 chek out bhai sahib kulbir singh ji's posts, tips for getting up at the end of one.

    [below taken from the link]:
    "Some Tips for getting up at Amritvela

    1) Let’s face it. We are not Brahmgyanis. So we should not try to imitate them either. Brahmgyanis may sleep (in so called sleep too they japp Naam) at midnight and still get up an hour or two hours later. But we are mortal beings. We must sleep early if we want to get up early.

    2) One may sleep late and still get up early for 1 day, 2 days, 3 days or even a week but eventually he will be fatigued and sooner or later will lose or miss Amritvela.

    3) A normal person needs at least 5-6 hours of sleep. If one wants to get up at 2am, then one must strive to sleep at 8pm.

    4) Another thing to note is that if we sleep well at night, there is much more energy to japp Naam at Amritvela and concentration is much deeper.

    5) If one is to sleep at 8pm, one must eat dinner by 6pm and then walk a little after eating. If one takes dinner at 9pm and sleep at 10-11, it is much harder to get up at Amritvela. As per experience of many Gursikhs heavy dinner, late at night, is an impediment in getting up early.

    6) Do Kirtan Sohila with full concentration and do ardaas before Guru Sahib for Amritvela.

    7) Before sleeping, one should try to concentrate on Naam Abhyaas or repeatedly do short Gurbani paaths like Ramkali kee Vaar and Basant kee Vaar.

    8) At Amritvela, one should strive to do Ishnaan with cold water. This helps in concentration.

    Despite all the efforts and tricks, we must realize that Amritvela after all is a gift of Vaheguru. For this reason, the foremost thing to do is to supplicate and beg before Guru Sahib for this gift. If Guru Sahib beholds us with the eye of grace, then Amritvela is done effortlessly.

    Daas,
    Kulbir Singh"
