  1. Neo How about just sending a PM to all the old timers, just to invite them back? The PM's should land in their email inbox.
  2. No it didnt. However, I do think its the intention you put behind it. if you read CDV , or any bani for that matter, with the thoughts that it will make you full of rage , then it will be a self fulfilling prophesy. I remember advising some family to read it in india becasue of some problems they were having. They were at their wits end, going to doctors, specialists, jadu/toona guys, pandits etc. Even with nothing to loose and already being in a hopeless situation they refused to recite CDV because they were that fearful of it!! For me that was a real eye-opener, in that no matter how well you wish someone you cannot force them to do something that will bring obvious benefits to them. Benefits that they themselves want. Since then I have decided that if i learn/know of anything, just keep it to myself and dont proffer too much advice unless someone actually asks for it and really wants it.
  3. Sehej dari sikh doing kirtan, lady with real beautiful voice AND a Singh playing bansari!! All on sangat TV this morning. Class!

  4. I'd say there are certain rituals that are appropriate to say increase the effect of reading such banis; but not the converse of trying to curtail the effects out of fear. I used to read it following advice from a certain member on this forum and it was the best thing. The sheer beauty of the bani - one of the very few Panjabi compositions of the tenth guru.
  5. You mention shrinking land holdings, but I would have thought its working the other way as well. A few already rich 'astute' landowners accumulating more and more land. And then giving it out on halaa or ttheka. i dont know about India being in a bubble, but Pb generally does seem to be heading that way. Simply becasue there is nothing to back up this massive growth rate or inflation. If anything I perceive the southern more educated states as being able to hold off the bubble effect. How to cure Pb of its myopic short-sightedness?
  6. Two books i highly recommend: HERBS THAT HEAL, published in India. I bought this from those 'Bass Adaa book wala' stands many decades ago. It sparked my interest in herbalism and alternative medicine. It contains details about how to use the herbs (- common stuff from indian stores) for ailments. DR ATKINS COMPLETE GUIDE TO NATURAL HEALTH. Brilliant books on vita nutrients, vitamin therapy and using herbs for modern western lifestyle ailments. This will really go into depth about cholesestral , BP, sugaar etc. Defo should be translated into Panjabi for our folks to read when they get together and moan about their diseases. Oh and dont let the fact that its by Dr Atkins put you off. This book is stand alone and you dont have to go on the Atkins diet - though doing that diet alone may hep your cholestral levels
  7. I wish I had the money to go on jollies like him. I just do what I'm able to in terms of showing the world what we are about to destroy and what we had. Thats if I remember to keep a camera with me!! Whats happened to him anyway? Think he's been kidnapped by some tribesmen when he went to take pics of them?
  8. Its the marble and bathroom tile mentality combined with an influx of rupees. If you go to Batala you can see the summer palace of Maharaja Sher Singh. The actual palace is now the offices of the local college. Its stunning from the out side but when you go in it looks exactly like any other government office - totally whitewashed inside nearby the is a massive park like grassed off area with a beutiful old building in the middle. The grassed area surrounding it is lower than ground level. Its all closed off and decrepit state. I found out that this is the Boudoir of Maharaja Sher Singh which was surrounded by a lake (ie the sunken area around it). You had to take a boat and row to get to building. Apparently he used it when he was entertaining his totty and wanted to be alone. Again its all in a rotten state.
  9. I dont understand the FEAR that some sikhs have of Dasam Granth banis!! How did it get that way? We dont have any fear of reading any other banis.
  10. Let NIKE guide you: Just do it. And then tell us. Dasam bani is no more or less powerful than the panj banis you do daily. Zulu I also heard it was the other way round ie to do at night time.
  11. You make a valid point about asking why we have got the stage where we want to be seperate from rest of India. And it does require some deep introspection by the Indian establishment. You state that we will/should not behave like our current Delhi masters. I have not seen one iota of evidence that we can even manage that. Just extrapolate the behaviour of our current sikh leader - the SGPC, politiocians, Jathedars ,businessmen, academics , the 'movers and shakers' of the sikh world etc and see whether those types of people can be statesmen? My prediction is rather negative. The only person I see who demonstrates anything like statesman like behaviour is sat in Patiala waiting for the noose. But this still remains an academic point. The reality is that as soon as Khalistan is gained there will be other groups who will want to further sub-divide the state. Whether it involves their greed, malevolence against the new created sikh state or hindu/muslim minority rights or whatever reasons. Furthermore, whoever these guys are, you dont need the brains of an Akal Takat Jathedar to know that indian intelligence commmunity will be in the thick of it. You may call it a 'stupid' question but it still needs answering. We wont have the benefit of US backing that Israel has. Also are sikhs willing to make the sacrifice required? Just look at any other new-born country: the process entails mass slaughter, rapes, pillage, anarchy, looting, ethnic cleansing, retribution murders. And that is AFTER independence. That is reaaly a question for those living in Pb to answer.
  12. I agree. Its just a question posed to those who have a simpletons idea of a Utopian place. Just so they can expand their thoughts a bit and look at it from another perspective.
  13. If anyones interested there is an old fort in Sultanpur Lodi town centre. It may be Mughal era. Currently being used as a Police HQ. When I saw it I decided to go walkies, and just walked straight in and wandered about the complex........no questions asked, just a few stares from some Polsee. Sums up the security state there.
  14. Here are some of the pics I took of old town Amritsar last Autumn. Those of you who have read records of Amritsar of old ( esp the latest Golden Temple book by Kashi House) will know that it was a beautiful city. Whilst walking to the outlier gurdwaras I walked past these buildings and thought I'd take some pics. No doubt very soon these will be destroyed in the name of modernisation and beautification. One of the pics has a date of about 1938 though I believe that some of these buildings are way older. I just love the artistry of the brickwork as well as the paintings. There is a blurred picture there. Above the door/window frame is what I think is a vessel built into the building. I suspect that this is to hold some kind of diva. I later went to Sultanpur Lodi and came across a townhouse with a wooden gateway leading onto it. The wooden beams were at least a foot thick and the exquisite carvings made into it were simply mind blowing. As I stood there staring at these peoples house a young guy walked up to me and asked me to come inside. I first refused (out of desi kindness) but when he insisted I was thankful that I did go in. He showed me the architectural work in the inner courtyard. Going in you walk through a tunnel made of the old style bricks, all arranged so that they made pretty patterns and shapes; all curving over your head. Inside his grandfather showed me the rest of the beams in the building archways. Again stunning patterns of birds and flowers carved into it. About 15ft in length. the grandfather told me that all this existed for many decades, even before the time of his elders! Well over 100years old. On the floor were piles of hardwood timber all cut up into planks. I thought it was timber for some DIY work. The grandfather informed me that it is all the original wood that they had taken out of the house and had cut up into planks to sell onto some timber merchants. He proudly showed how good quality the timber was after all these generations/decades. I had a heavy feeling in my heart that such beautiful historic art work is now to be used as firewood! Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me then so regrettably could not take away any pics; only pictures I could take were with my memory.
  15. Assuming Sikhs get their right to self determination in Panjab- Khalistan. Would the muslims of Malerkotla get the same right to have their own homeland, separate from the sikhs. Or even the people of Patiala, Nabha, Kapurthala etc? Afterall they had their own homelands in the past with their own kings, governments, laws etc. What if they didn't want to live in khalistan under a sikh theocracy? Can we hand back their homelands to their respective Princes, Nawabs?
  16. I think it was Chatanga who mentioned recording our old folks stories about the partition of India. Well I just came across a website that is doing just that. I think its American based (judging by the lindo used) http://www.1947partitionarchive.org/ Pass the details on
  17. There was a news item on Day & Night News last week about a group of farmers in Pb who were demonstarting about the low wholesale price of milk and that they cant make a living selling it on. The guys were even pouring gallons of milk onto the streets! Now are they just being greedy or is there someone else in the supply chain who makes the real big money?
  18. I used to be a jattboot but now I'm a Surya-bansi. I know its its suprising, coz I dont swear , talk crap, vote SAD (badal) or do any of the common jatt stuff. lol
  19. I wish I knew when the big day is! Dont worry; for you I'll send it by email. Its a lot quicker.....................................................................and a lot cheaper!!! lol
  20. Well from my experience, I've got family who own masses of farmland and also rent some too. And they have made and are making quite a bit of money. Having said that being pendu Jatts, they are just saving it all to send their kids to the west! I think there is a rich-poor divide in Pb and India and its just a MASSIVE gap in between
  21. Times of India article(/blog) on Rajoana: http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/clicklit/entry/why-is-badal-lobbying-for-beant-singh-s-assassin
  22. OK so with the western media picking up on the fact that sikhs want a suicide bomber convict freed and are voilently protesting in the streets and forcing businesses to shut, I ask have the sikhs hired any PR or law firms in the west to favourably influence the media and manage the audience perspectives??

Or is shouting 'Khalistan Zindabad' & 'India stop killing sikhs' whilst brandishing swords on the streets enough to get our message across?
