  1. I disagree, I think that bani such as dasam and especially sri sarbloh prakash would be better left off of the internet. I spoke with baba prem singh one time at mata sahib kaur gurdwara and they told me that guru granth sahib is jagat guru, anyone can read the bani and gain from it, dasam on the other hand dasam is baani for a fauji that is unbending in their jat-sat. I think the modern day controversies surrounding dasam is largely due to people reading it that probably shouldn't be reading it yet.

    agreed

  2. As for fairy tales I guess for you tales of God incarnating as half lion, a turtle fish and wildboar are more credible...

Gotta go now, my unicorns and dragons need to be fed...

its funny how when this guy was a singh he would write extensive posts (which i still have) on how one shouldn't use the word incarnating and instead used the word manifesting.

  3. lol everytime i read it, it cracks me up

here are some other replies on that board to the sri lakhsman ji post

I think with all th examples we have from Sikh history like Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa, Baba Deep Singh, Nawab Kapoor Singh, Jassa Singh Ahluwalia and countless others and their respect for women, going to Hindu mythology for inspiration is unnecessary.

If we want to talk about a Lacchman, then let's talk about Bhai Lacchman Singh Shahid of Sri Nanakana Sahib saka or Shahid Bhai Lacchman Singh (Bashir Mohammed).

As (xzik101) veer ji suggest Hari Singh Nalwa offered to be a son, to a lady who came to him; for marriage----------------------This character and the behaviour of Hari singh Ji is much more inspirational and practicable than the one in the story of Sri Laxman.

this one probably takes the cake...

Gurbani condems the teachings of Ram Chandhar.

Kulbir Singh Ji, you are well aware of what RSS is doing. They want to mix Sikh history with Hinduism. They want to show that Guru Gobind Singh ji was rashtarvadi. RSS wants to show that Sikhs should take teachings from RAmayana, Mahabhartha, and etc. And they want to merge Sikhism into Hinduism. I personally think that Chandra Singh, Vijaydeep Singh, XZIK101, and Mehtaab Singh are doing the same thing as RSS.

It appears that the Tapoban form has fallen into the RSS traps and is playing a good role in favour of RSS by accepting such posts which go in favour of Hinduism . How has the Admins approved the translation of Japji sahib from Bhagti Sangeet website? We have so many Sikh websites which provide the translation of Japji Sahib, what is the need to go to RSS websites?

How can we forget Blue Star Operation and 1984 Genocide of Sikhism.

  4. to be honest, i just love the stuff the 'hinduism' courses, even tho i have taken intro to christianity, judaism, and islam. i have studied courses about socrates, plato etc, and i find more interest in the indian traditions. my professor is doing research on kashmiri shaivism, so we have some interesting talks.

i have taken modern 'hinduism' (we studied 'hinduism' from just before british period to now, people like roy, gandhi, vivekananda, among many others),

formative 'hinduism' (we went through the vedas not in depth, upanishads, gita, other philosophical texts),

    indian asthetics,

intro to eastern religions, (we went in depth of 'hinduism', ie. most of the groups, buddhism, tao, confucius etc)

at the start of my undergrad my professor was tutoring me with sanskrit, but i have left it after some months because its something that requires extreme dedication (invovling years of learning), which i chose not to do.

i love the ramayana, such a interesting story. havnt started going through maharajs ramavatar yet, but will be interesting.

  5. to be honest im in a political science degree, but ive taken so many religious courses i could be a religion major.

ive taken preety much everything even related to 'hinduism', which is like 5-6 courses already, and still got 2 years left in my program.

the only thing holding me back from getting a double major is the fact that they have a a few courses that are mandatory and they something im not really interested in, ie. ancient greek/roman civiliations, among other things

  6. its a fun project, intially i wasnt going to do this. my professor, who i am close to, requested that i join a 'class' that he is doing with 2 other students. two other students wanted to go thru the ramayana on my profs, but my prof made it a real class, so i get a credit. he told me if im interested do it.

we have a paper at teh end of the course, after going thru the ramayana, and i suggested that i do a comparison, he loved the idea.
