  1. WJK WJF I’m taking Amrit on 20th June this year so basically in 3 weeks. At Gurdwara GNNSJ Birmingham one on Soho Road. My question is has anyone taken amrit from that gurdwara? What should I expect? Anything I should know do’z and dont’z. I’m nerves because my Punjabi is not that good so if I knew how everything is done at GNNSJ that would be great. Also is it best to stay there over night a couple of days etc Thank you Nanaki
  2. So, I was looking for videos on the Punjabi language and came across this one it’s interesting take a look. Mini-documentary
  3. The thing is I regard dancing as something spiritual and I'm trying to be open minded about the Namdhari gone wild but I can't help thinking it's wrong. In Sikhism it's always about disciplining yourself, what Guru Gobind Singh Ji says. (E.G. don't give into your hormones think of others as your Paji or Panji etc when your young along those lines) - therefore dancing like that - would it not be unacceptable. Then I'm thinking I've got double standards when it comes to Sufism and ere dancing, I'm like that must be some cool spiritual experience ere having. I no I'm a hypocrite!!!
  4. I've said this in a different post (Bulleh Shah's Poetry - mentions of Dasam Patshah) + (And I think that one was by you to) so I'm going to Copy and Paste it - ONE misinterpretation in Bachittar Natak of 'Jo hum ko parmeswar uchare teh sab narak kund main par hai.' many people translate that as anyone who calls Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj God will go to hell. JO HUM KO - 'HUM' - those people who call themselves God, this body HUM. JO HUM KO PARMESWAR UCHARE, those people who call themselves god like Ram Rahim, Nirankari, TEH SAB NARAK KUND MAIN PAR HAI - it's them who are going to be filling up hell, not a Sikh who's got SHARDHA(faith) from Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. And also................ There must be something wrong here because God aka Waheguru can't get angry this contradicts what the Guru's say about God - I'm going to check the translation again.
  5. Then, is that not the misunderstanding of "as you put it mainstream Sikhs". The thing is I thought the same I asked an aunty she said the same thing, looked on the net it said the same thing so I automatically thought well that's right. "Whoever calls Guru Gobind Singh parmesar will fall into the deepest pits of Hell" But then I was listening to this lecture by this Nihang Sikh, and he was talking about this misconception many Sikhs have about this line in the Bachittar Natak. So as curiosity killed the cat, I had to find out for myself, I did some research spoke to other Nihang Sikhs and they basically said the same thing. Also that translations of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and the Dasam Granth should be updated.
  6. So came across this crazy video has anyone seen it. Any idea what’s going on because I’m a bit confused, I don’t know it’s like Namdhari/Sufism if you get what I mean!!!! Its a really old vid so I bet some of you guys have seen it and can enlighten me. Nanaki
  7. Thanks, btw is there any websites I can check............?????
  8. My cousin sisters going to India and I wanted her to bring me back a Gutka with banis from the Dasam Granth. ( She going for Baba Deep Singh Jis B-Day, she believes in the Baba Ji from Birmingham and after three girls she's had a son bla bla I'm happy for her lol ) Chandi di Var and Akal Ustad the main banis I'm looking for. I've heard that Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee print them, but it would be great if someone could give me a name of a Gutka Sahib they have or a website I'm having no luck Any feed back will be greatly appreciated............... Thanks Nanaki
  9. Ummmmmm interesting I know about Ram Rahim, I was asking about Sant Baba Ranjit Singh if HE is just preaching the message of Sikhi or a FAKE??? Thanks anyway Shaheediyan and das Wjk Wjf Nanaki
  10. My friends have been talking about a guy called Ram Rahim and I know the basics about him that he's an idiot - no offence. The conversation goes on to my friend comparing Sant Baba Ranjit Singh to him (RR) going on about them(Sants) all being the same. So, I've never heard of this guy and from what I 'have' heard lately there is a lot of controversy around him. Can someone clear the air for me........
  11. Firstly great post I love Sufi/Punjabi poetry and it's great to get some background information. Secondly this is to Kam1825, there's one misinterpretation in Bachittar Natak of 'Jo hum ko parmeswar uchare teh sab narak kund main par hai.' many people translate that as anyone who calls Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj God will go to hell. Sorry just wanted to clear the misinterpretation up! Wjk Wjf!!!
  12. A quick question not going into too much detail……. Relating to the Sri Dasam Granth – Bachitar Natak, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji speaks about two rulers in India named LAVA and KUSHU son of Raja Ram Chander son of Raja Dasrath. I’ve also being reading Ramayana after watching it on NDTV anyway in that Lord Rama has two son’s from his partner Sita, Lava and Kushu. The question is both Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the author of the Ramayana state that Lava was the founder of the city Lahore – which is thought to be named after him. IN BOTH STORY’S ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT THE SAME BROTHERS?? Thanks Nanaki
  13. Don’t quote me because I’m not sure about the facts but in ?India? a great Sufi Sant is buried named Rumi it is a place where people from all religions come together and sing the praise of God. – I saw this documentary but can’t remember the facts it was five years back Anyway this video has nothing to do with that but NF Ali Khan doing Qwaali/Kiratn in a Gurdwara Shabd by Bhagat Kabir – Enjoy. Nanaki "So I back tracked and the Sant is not Rumi, but Amir Khusro 13th Century Sufi poet buried in Dehli - but the rest is the same" - UPDATED
  14. I’m very open minded when it comes to Sikh artwork, not trying to disrespect anyone else’s views. Some people have problems accepting our Gurus drawn in cartoon form but if you go back in history and look at some of the artwork of gurus in that period, some of it is very cartoony. I came across this website, where the artist’s Bhagat Singh, drawings are really graphic. http://prince911.deviantart.com/ http://sikhiart.blogspot.com/ The one of Mai Bhago Kaur really cool – maybe we can have a Khalsa comic book to education our children. My daughter would love that, in this day and age with batman and wonder woman, that’s what our children find cool – that fantasy figure they want to be. It’s wonderful enough telling our children about our history, but words only go so far – as to looking at pictures with every one obsessed over the TV, internet, blackberry etc. I think art is a really good way to educate. OK – back to the pictures there’s bat singh and a action hero type called KES Check it out!!!!!!!!!!!! Nanaki
  15. JAMBUDVIPA Thanks Jannat I'll check that out!!!!
  16. I think it's fear, that’s why many Sikh don’t agree with the Sri Dasam Granth as well as many younger generation Sikhs haven’t even heard of it. That Banis include Hindu Gods and Goddess which can be confusing if you don’t know how to interoperate the scripture. And many, I hate to us this word but in the simplest term, “back word people” (sorry) are so against the Tria – Chritra. Everyone should read it with an open mind – the language is really shocking so you should be ready for that before reading. Nanaki
  17. Does anyone know what Indian was called back in the days, when the Gurus walked this earth. I hope it’s not a stupid question – forgive me for my stupidity. I’m doing some research and a part of it is to do with some Sikhs wanting a separate state for the Sikh community (khalastan). It was Gurpur yesterday and it got me thinking, that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji sacrificed himself for the Hindus and as Guru Gobind Singh Ji put it in the Bachitar Natak, “To protect their right to wear their caste-marks and sacred threads, did he, in the Dark Age, perform the supreme sacrifice”. - FACT The question is would any of our ten masters want India divided, Guru Nanak Dev Ji says that were all children of one God, but to meet our father again he has given us different paths to reach him – but as man is dammed by his ego religions have been corrupted and miss interpreted, the main message of meditating on god is lost. Living an ego free life, helping people not looking at their cast or creed……………………………… (When I talk about men and his ego I include both men and women) So, coming back to was India called anything else, I’ve been looking but its all the modern names mother India, bharat and of course Hindustan I did come across some reference to ARYADESA ???? Any information most welcome!!! Thanks Nanaki
  18. At least two things that will never change are the Sir Guru Granth Sahib and the Sir Dasam Granth. No Disrespect But unlike other religions where their holy text is not directly written by the prophet or saints it’s all second hand information. Whereas the SGGS was watch over by Guru Arjan Dev Ji while it was writing by Bhai Gurdas and then so on until Guru Gobind Singh Ji put his last and only writing in. I hope that things will change at the Leamington Gurdwara because I’ve got a years lease after that I’m moving to Birmingham. And you know what I will go and speak with the committee members. Ummm………………… Nanaki
  19. Because that's the first thing I did, I do have a brain. Not answering, can't find a proper website. I even sent them a email a week ago no repley! through some blog thing...... Nanaki
  20. Four years ago I came across this artist via a good friend who recommended his work. Name KANWAR SINGH DHILLON, personally I think his artwork is profoundly beautiful, the detail he put in it. If you purchase them they are quite on the pricey side but they are worth it. http://www.artofpunjab.com/ Nanaki http://artofpunjab.com/images/siri_guru_granth_sahib.jpg Thats the link to the picture above lol
  21. Back in London Karamsar Gurdwara is holding a Akhand Path starting from Saturday to Monday morning to celerbrate the 300th anniversary of the Gurgadi. My question is does anyone know if there will be similar events in Leamington Spa or Ramgarhia Gurdwara in Coventry. I have been looking on the net but with my expertise in using the internet I’m having no luck. I would be so grateful if anyone could let me know of any events happening this weekend. Whiguroo Ji Ka Khalsa Whiguroo Ji Ke Fateh Nanaki [glow=red:48e40060cd]“One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru shall get up early morning and meditate on the Lord’s Name. Make effort regularly to cleanse, bathe & dip in the ambrosial pool. Upon Guru’s instructions, chant Har, Har singing which, all misdeeds, sins and pains shall go away.†– Guru Ram Das Ji[/glow:48e40060cd]
  22. "" N30 Gurdwarey, like all religious institutions are businesses., some have been doing it longer than others and some like the Sikhs have started late (probably in the last 100 years or more). Its nothing new, when you have other peoples money coming in, only the strong willed can stop themselves from taking a "dip" in the golak. "" This is so true I was on a Gurdwara web page a couple of days ago and the Gurdwara has a Vision and Mission statement – if you’ve studied business you’ll know what I’m taking about. http://gurdwarananaksar.ca/english/main_page_e.html Nothing against them I was quite impressed, it make’s you think what’s next.
