  1. Panjab should try and push the 'simple life' philosophy. Like a slowed down, good quality rural life with great food and low stress kind of thing. Instead of craving "Pijja", "MacDoughnulds", Armani jeans and pan#*!$ blonde highlights. We don't need a hundred and one varieties of packaged food to progress or improve our lives. Solar power is the way to go in sunny hot countries like India. Sure it might not provide ALL of the required electricity but it should give a nice chunk of it.
  2. It doesn't really help that no one is offering an alternative model of life that is attractive to the masses.
  3. Here is a humble attempt at translating a portion of Prof. Sahib Singh's preface of his Jaap Sahib steek. May Waheguru bless his children with knowledge of the faith and provide grace. I'd like to thank Laal Singh of the forum for looking over a draft and providing invaluable suggestions for improvements. Any constructive criticism that could help improve the translation is welcome:
  4. Was reading the steek and noticed that chand/line[?] 31 went: ਅਧੇਯ ਹੈਂ ॥ਅਭੇਯ ਹੈਂ ॥ਅਜੀਤ ਹੈਂ ॥ ਅਭੀਤ ਹੈਂ ॥੩੧॥ Whereas my DDT gutka and Drs. Jodh and Dharam Singh's English translation spells it thus: ਅਧੇ ਹੈਂ ॥ ਅਭੇ ਹੈਂ ॥ ਅਜੀਤ ਹੈਂ ॥ ਅਭੀਤ ਹੈਂ ॥੩੧॥ Any ideas about the discrepancy? Is it a printing typo? I noticed another difference with a gutka at the Gurdwara where a "ਣ" had been replaced by a "ਨ". Do slightly different versions of Jaap Sahib exist?
  5. With a western ruling class which values markets derived financial power very highly, coupled with their deteriorating economy and influence, India, it seems, has a trump card up their sleeve then. Look at how they've stood by and dithered with the Libyan 'rebels'. Do you honestly think they would give a toss about us?
  6. So essentially you're saying the UN can be swung by large powerful nations as illustrated by the Sikh example? Plus I get the feeling that the UN is considered a political paper tiger these days. The way the UK and US just overrode their directives and went to war in Afghanistan sort of showed that.
  7. If I recall rightly the predominant language we learn seems to practically acclimatise our ears to hear sounds in certain 'ranges'. Different languages have different ranges and becoming accustomed to one seems to make it difficult to hear and replicate what appear to be super subtle differences in another. For example I struggled with and still struggle with some of the following: The difference between "ਧ" and "ਦ" and these two babies: ੇ ੈ These two seem very close too: ਢ ਥ There are a whole lot more but I don't want to embarrass myself. lol
  8. oookaaayy........maybe it was just me then.......
  9. Who didn't want to be a werewolf when they were kids!
  10. Thank you brother. If I thought my spelling in English was bad, my spelling in Panjabi is infinitely worse! And we don't even have a spell checker to save us..... lol .....hang on! I just checked the spelling with the "ਝ" in a few dictionaries and noting came up??? I must say though, the difference between "ਜ" and a "ਝ" seems infinitely minuscule.
  11. Do people not think the vested economic interests European nations (like Britain) have with Hindustan will influence their action or inaction in the matter. They have plans for big things in India, do you really think they care enough about Sikhs to jeopardise that?
  12. I said: Chuj dee gal aa Sunaya kar teri maa nu!
  13. ਚੱਜ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਆ ਸੁਣਨੇ ਆ ਕਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾ ਨੂੰ !
  14. Possibly only in that we may be a fudu people who continually make the same mistakes over centuries and can't seem to get to the other side of eradicating certain backwards problems (failing to recognise them and sweeping them under the mat when we do probably seals the deal for us...)
  15. Nor is this phenomena new to Panjab if Prem Sumarag is anything to go by.
  16. Japanese sword making has always fascinated me. The level of perfection employed for the best blade is staggering. Here we can see examples of handguards (tsuba). Enjoy! http://muza-chan.net/japan/index.php/blog/samurai-sword-tsuba-photos
  17. Seems peculiarly petty for the spiritually inclined? Especially an institute as lofty as DDT?
  18. You guys HAVE to watch this documentary about African lions and lionesses! I didn't know that they have such a tough time. This is limited to the UK (sorry!) http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00hvw59/Natures_Great_Events_The_Great_Migration/ As for favorite animal, hmmm...... don't know if I have a favorite but I do like cheetahs and leopards.
  19. Thank you brother! God bless you for your seva. A question for anyone who may have read them: How does Pandir Narain's teeka on Jaap Sahib compare to Prof. Sahib Singh's?
  20. Seriously? Is there a big problem with guys whistling at girls there? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zl7wy7hF5A
  21. I should add, it may be that only one of the older versions of the Chaupa Rehat has the Chandi story. If some brother I communicated with on SS is correct, it may be that McLeod (yes him) included the Chandi story in his translation from a manuscript that wasn't the one that got lost in 1984. If that is true, it is seriously mischievous and we should stop saying the Chaupa Rehit supports the Chandi story? ---- Anyway, no one want to help translate this? I'll try and make a start:
