  1. The letter posted by Steel bangle is excellant - not much more u can add to that! Look, if someone can point me to hindhu scriptures that advise followers to: 1/ worship one god, with no form, eternal and beyond births and deaths 2/ completley reject the notion of idols 3/completley reject the caste system 4/ keep their bodies as god intended 5/ reject the idea that onlt 'chosen' ones may reach slavation 6/ to uphold justice for others less fortunate 7/ reject 'ahisma' ( I fink i spelled that wrong) but i mean pacifism 8/ reject the hold that pundits and bahmin have over them 9/ Put an end to rituals that make no sense etc etc etc In addition to showing me evidence from scriptures i would want to be pointed to the group/sect actually living the above, at the time of Guru Nanak. then i MIGHT agree that sikhism stems from Hindhism. As it is they know the level of degradation their people have reached , those very same people who claim such pride for being Hinhus. They were degraded and lost at the time of Guru Nanak Ji and they still are today. More shame to them today because they have been shown the great light and wisdom of Guru Ji's teachings - yet they still choose to live in darkness. Good luck to them but MUST they try to sink the Sikhs with them? Makes you wonder why the Indian Government refuses to return the manuscripts stolen from harminder Sahib during Operation Bluestar doesn't it? PS I welcome u back too Mission Impossible
  2. SSA confused kuri. If i understand your question, you are asking what god actually does? First of all, there was only the Primal Being. (SGGS p693) and then, guru Nanak Ji said to god: You created the vast expanse of the Universe with One Word! (SGGS p3) but we must remember that all of God's actions will never be completely undertsood by us: No matter how much anyone tries to explain and describe them, (SGGS p3) He created, he now sits back and admires his creation and we are part of it. He is everything, mother, father, brother, sister freind. But we will never fully understand him, even if we contemplated him for lifetimes. So I guess his role is creator, protector and sustainer. He has given us free will so we can decide what do to with the millions of gifts he bestows upon us and is aware of everything that we do. He can damn us or save up in an instance - all is his kirpa. In the semetic religions, god is often descibed as an entity somewhere high up and looking down upon the earth. (almost like a king on a throne) Sikhism teaches us that he is right here, right now, always has been and always will be. Hope I haven't confused you further
  3. The soul leaves the body at the moment of death. We should concern ourselves much more with the journey the soul will take rather than what happens to the body which is discarded as an old garment of clothing. Do not concern yourselves with superstitions regarding the rituals following death - most have only been put into place to offer some comfort for the greiving families. Remember, the body of GuruArjun Dev Ji was not cremated - anyone here saying his soul would have been affected? Donating organs to help others is a seva and I feel everyone should do it
  4. ssa Can I just say that I think some of u r being really unfair to khalsa Soulja here. I for one am proud of the fact that he is willing to stand up and ask questions. There is a huge misconception amonst sikhs who say believe that we must not question other religions - of course we must especially when they are trying to attack Sikhi first! It's also easy for other muslim groups to try and blame other factions for the conflicts. But please let's face facts here - there exist some 'muslims' who will do and say ANYTHING to try and secure a conversion of a non-muslim. There is no end to the lies that they will tell (most recent one is to claim they are a christian) so are the shi-a going to try and claim that there are sunnis out there who would not lie and claim to be shi-a themselves? And how exactly is the average young person supposed to spot the difference? Let me put it this way - I am not an expert on snakes, but I do know that some are poisonous and some are harmless. Because i wouldn't know the difference, it would make sense for me to stay away from all snakes. Then if i started studying snakes I would be able to tell the difference BUT what if some of the poisonous snakes were able to change themselves to look like harmless ones? What should I do then? If there truly exist muslims out there who claims it is just the sunni muslims who do dispicable things then surely they should be the ones dealing with it? Educate them with the truth and if they still don't stop then take stronger measures against them. If there was a group of people out on the pavements of London and they were twisting gurbani for evil means - and they were preaching hatred and the actual killing of all non-sikhs and saying it was all in the name of sikhism what would we do? I am not even a true sikh (trying to learn more each day) however my love for sikhi is such that even I would get a gun, kill these people and spend the rest of my days in prison for the privelage. I would do this because I KNOW such preachings would go against Sikhism. What do other muslim groups do when they see that one eyed, hook armed guy at finsbury mosque? Yes the 'moderates' claim he is twisting Islam but why don't they deal with him then? What is stopping them if they feel that he is so wrong? So for those of u who claim that we must not question islam because we don't know enough about it - how will u learn about it if u don't ask questions? Awareness does not always mean hatred. I know that my words must sound harsh to some of u and it truly is not my intention to offend.
  5. my mom went to see a display of this about 10 years ago they were doing a tour of uk. She was very impressed and suitably inspired. I just think we need to think with a little bit of caution - Guru Ji never wanted us to put our faith in miracles. If the family who tours with this item is so convinced of it's miraculous powers then why have they themselves not accepted Guru Gobind Singh JI as their guru and turned to Sikhism? Or is it just easier to stay muslim and accept the donations of cash and gold that the sangat throws at them each time they do a tour? No offense meant to anyone for my views - i just get so frustrated when there already exists a true miracle - one gifted to humanity from our beloved gurus and we choose to blind ourselves to it and chase these things instead. READ THE SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI NOW -for scriptures like this to have been writted 3-500 years ago before the advancement of equal rights movements and the advances of science - well there's your miracle.
  6. have u tried going to the 'sikhitothemax' website? Also I have their cd so i could forward that to u if u like.
