  1. a lot of ppl don't realise that the colour of things around them effects things a lot. it was like this indian man once said about ppl in the West, that they wear too much dark-coloured clothes, unlike in india, and in india a lot of ppl, are more joyful and khushi, while in the west theres a lot less khushi. we don't even realise these colours half the time, just like we don't even think about breathing! But i think it does have an effect, and light coloured kapray, esp white/cream is good. it really does affect our moods, so if u think it might help u be more happy for doing paath, then wear lighter kapray, but im not saying its something written in Sikhi or anything, or that its absolutely vital! If ur so absorbed with Naam, then u probably wouldn't even notice!
  2. Just do your absolute 200%, like as if God is actually there, because God is!!! Think about being in the presence of God!
  3. Are our lives totally predestined? Because it says a lot in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji that it is, so that must be true. But i've ended up in discussions with others where they say that we do have freewill to do more paath etc to do more prayer, but is this freewill pre destined too? Or has God given us part freewill too to improve our lives to a certain extent, but our lives are pretty much always going to be going in the same direction from the moment of birth?
  4. good point, especially that it should always be wasy to recognise Sikhs wherever they are, and kuriya should think about wearing dustaar if they want more of an identity, because its like my cousin said, u cannot always tell who are Sikh girls because Hindus and Muslims also wear shol or chunni
  5. Maybe God just put dinosaurs on earth first cos humans couldn't live in thse conditions
  6. i heard that in Islam it is wrong to keep dogs in ur home, like when the americans were searching homes in iraq, ppl were offended cos they brought in sniffer dogs...anyone know if this is true?
  7. Sikh marriages help the number of Sikhs to blossom, so marriage is good, and almost in some ways a duty, and also, it is recommended for Sikhs to be in a marriage cos it helps keep the five chor at bay cos u have more responsibilty.
  8. I've been told by my mum a lot of times that people should eat less, sleep less, and talk less, and this makes sense to me as it gives us more time to be devoted to Parmatma and so that we can do more paath. I also think that the matter of eating less is very important, as this would decrease the number of fat ppl out there (especially aunties and uncles in the Gurdwara ). and before ppl start saying that ppl can be fat for a number of reasons, eg not enough time for exercise or illness, generally a lot of ppl are fat cos they eat too much, and should remember that "food is for life" not "life is for food", life is for Parmatma after all
  9. We shouldn't be entirely angry at the woman...it just prooves that we need to make the world so much more aware of the great Sikh religion, and make sure we are not confused with other relgions or portrayed the wrong way
  10. As far as im concerned, maybe ppl can be homosexual, especially if this gay gene exists, but at the end of the day, theres no need for anyone to be boastful of their kaam whether they are homo/heterosexual, and i personally think the kaam is only supposed to be used for reproduction, so even if someone claims to be homosexual, it is their duty to bring up more Sikhs to spread their religion and to just forget what their sexuality is...not like that uk christian bishop guy (christianity)
  11. Its just men who r trying to keep women down a lot of the time, despite that there is supposed to be total equality i our religion...a lot of Sikh men have a backward attitude, forgetting the wonderful teachings of our religion and adopting a defensive stance towards the threat of women to take the rights which belong to them
  12. At the end of the day, most religions have a lot in common, but that doesn't mean they are the same. I believe Sikhi borrows the good teachings of hinduism and islam, while avoiding a lot of the less good/unneccessary teachings, while God has given us a lot of other things to create a totally new religion, one with unique teachings, and a distinct identity
  13. Sikhi needs a strong leader-someone like Bhindranwale Sant, someone who will make ppl proud to be a Sikh-not necessarily someone as hardline, but someone with a good strong personality and leadership. This is especially true for Punjab i feel, as it is the home for the great majority of Sikhs in the world, yet in a society that is comparably easy to keep one's religion compared to those of us living in western countries...its appalling how Sikhi is being ignored with more and more ppl cutting their hair, going clubbing and imitating western ideals
  14. i was hoping for slightly more topic-related replies, not ppl's personal handed-ness, no offence! I would have thought there would be a chance that at least one well-known Sikh was left-handed...even ppl like bhagat singh/udham singh, maharaja ranjit singh, or even people in the Guru's families
  15. wearing a big kara is good as it gives a Sikh unique identity
  16. Do we have joth in memory of matyrs or something? Also, does toof keep away evil spirits? I just wanted to clear this matter up. And, if u kept too much toof on, wouldn't it be bad for your lungs, like pasive smoking?
  17. This may seem a funny question, but i'm just curious as to if any famous historical Sikhs were left-handers, so if anyone got any evidence/suggestions...please tell. These include Gurus/gurus family, matyrs, ppl like Bhai Bala/Mardana, Baba Buddha ji, basically the wel=known ppl
