lol I was gone for a while eh? I'm not a doctor yet. I'm still applying to med school and just waiting to see what happens. There were times where I went through a lot of worry about my career but now I've been able to sit with the internal realization that waheguru is the one in control. Whether the med school acceptance comes or not is on God. In one moment, beggars become kings and the next, kings become beggars. I've always been a very paranoid and anxious person. But it's been so relieving being able to remain laid back and focus on one day at a time.

Wish you all the best for your application. Thanks for motivating me to get serious with Naam Simran. I am still lost when it comes to Naam Simran practice.

Thank you @Ragmaala. Applications are going well. Just playing the waiting game to see what happens. In the meantime, I have launched a charity project to help people within the south asian community. So that's the seva for now. One thing that really hit me during that major experience, was to take care of people who are suffering from mental health illnesses, such as depression, anxiety and anything else that leads to mental suffering. So there's been a big drive to help out people who are in these types of situations. Much of the people I'm working with are youth. I've noticed our people do have a lot of bad habits and traumas that have been passed down from generation to generation. And they project those traumas onto their kids who later carry the same issues as their parents when they grow older. Not everyone wants to do bhagti/meditation, but I've just been trying to help people as best as I can using other methods. It's taught me a lot and really opened my eyes to how much suffering there is in this world (Nanak dukhia sabh sansar). Also gives a boost to your own bhagti when you hold out a loving and compassionate hand to someone who needs.

Veer ji wish you all the best for your application for medicine as its really hard the preparation stages to get the interview and place on the course subject.

I do hope you get the place as you have good intentions for doing sewa for mankind and i do wish you chardikala & success with your career and bhagati.

@HisServant could you tell us more about the technique of just observing yourself?

It's a technique called advaita vedanta. I aim to stay with my own "awareness". When I started years ago, I would ask myself a series of questions:

"who am I"

"Am I this body?.... If I lost my arm, am I still me?.... If I'm still me, how does this body define who I am?.... Am I these thoughts?.... These thoughts come and go and are eventually forgotten... how could I be these thoughts?"

I would go as deep as I could go. And eventually I'd get to a point where there would be just pure awareness, thoughtless and just observing any sensory information that came in, no judgement or interpretation. Current day, I typically don't need to start with those questions. I can jump straight into the awareness and stay with it day and night. But this has taken years to develop. I do the same with shabad and parkash as well. I observe the experiences that arise and it helps me merge into them.

I get rid of all attachments to theories and techniques by forcing the mind to stay unbiased and non-judgemental.

Yes, that's the way I found out works for me too.. - sitting in and listening to Silence ( I call it meditation level 2- saas gras )https://saadhsangat.wordpress.com/2019/12/27/saas-gras-simran/ Though I am at a nascent level in this. I reached here by reading Gurbani as thoughtlessly as I could. I didn't even realized that reading Gurbani attentively brought me to 'sunn' as my mind started focusing. Guruji thus leads his children by holding hands and tKes him further. Thank u veer @HisServantfor confirming.

About 6 months focus on naam simran now and before that about 1 year on mool mantar. Before that it was just reading books and listening to kirtan katha but I was still lacking inspiration do the practical myself. Only over the past 2 years have I moved up a gear and more so in the last 6 months.

If my post inspires even just one person then I really consider it worth while. Go for it Singh!!! :respect:

I'm reading Guru Granth Sahib Ji (english translation) along side naam simran and its really giving me the push I need. The amount of focus that is placed on naam/shabad unity with Almighty is just really shocking me to the max. To the point i'm getting quite annoyed by the fact that if Guru Granth Sahib Ji placed so much focus on naam simran being the only means by which we will reach Waheguru why weren't we told about it in Gurdwaras more. Maybe it was me who just wasn't taking it in. Why aren't we told this is what you need to do and this is how you go about doing it....

There are days when I run out of steam and the desire isn't there but when I read a few more angs it gives me the kick I need to get me going again. Actually i'm hooked reading Guru Ji. Can't even focus at work, just want to keep reading. My respect for my Gurus is increasing daily. Guru Amar Das ji' belows me away every time, actually they all do. Going to get shitter at work if they find out what I'm doing. I find myself totally becoming withdrawn from what is going on in the outside world. Don't care about news, tv, movies, family etc either i'm holding my phone or ipad. I'm really seeing a difference in me. Its growing to such an extent that my own mother is getting concerned and telling me to slow down and keep my feet on the ground and says I got my whole life ahead of me yet.

The only advice I'm able to give anyone is keep the simran going throughout the day whilst your doing your day to day stuff. From the moment I get up I try and start. Getting ready, journey to work, lunch times, take a few minutes off during work and just do simran eyes open or closed, journey home. I bet the other travelers are saying what is that guy mumbling to himself. If your able to dedicate fix time to it then so much the better. This is the part I'm really finding difficult to do. My legs and backside ache and I can't sit for long and the discomfort over powers the concentration your trying to reach. I find myself looking at the clock to see if times up or my thoughts just keep coming and I get frustrated but there are times when you know you had a good session even if it was just for a few moments.

 @Sat1176, SSA Veer

What time were you doing Simran and Mool Mantar? for how long? how do you carry on while doing other daily duties? Please shed some light to help us.

@Kaur1510

I don't do Mool Mantar anymore only Gurmantar jaap. I did Mool Mantar jaap many years ago. These days I just do enough Gurmantar until any Anhad sound manifest in the head/ears then I try switch to listening to these and ease off the Gurmantar until my thoughts begin to come to the forefront. Then I slowly bring back Gurmantar whilst keeping Dhyan on anhad sounds.

Benji this is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Do what you can when you can and don't beat yourself up. Build up slowly. Just keep persevering even if it's few minute bursts.

I don't have specific routines which is not what you want to hear. You need to find what is working for you, whether that is in the morning, evening or night.

Let's say your doing chores (vacuuming or ironing) at home. Keep reciting Gurmantar and keep your focus on the sound of jaap don't let your surti run away on other thoughts. Do this in parallel to doing your work.

If your day job requires mental effort then obviously your can't do both. Then I just use my time when I travel to work or some free time during lunch break. Go for a walk or find some where to sit and jap.

Thank you .

@Mooorakh.

Thank you Bhenji. I am always late night owl instead of waking in the morning and doing my studies.  Now, I find it easier to do simran in night after finishing everything.

I would like to do as much as possible simran now , without wasting my life further and looking for gursikh people company too.  My mind is going off other things like facebook, moovies etc and am enjoying spiritual side of life.

Look at this post. It is a tight slap to those malech who make fun and criticise people who do naam simran as stupid, backward and lazy people. Here we have this young veer who is studying to be a doctor and in the meantime is engaged in social work to benefit others that has tread the path of Naam and now is reaping it's fruits.

Now whenever these Masters&Johnsons from another forum take their monthly 'yatra' here to lecture and mock us,I will be linking them to this thread.Although I doubt it will ever happen, hopefully some of them see the light of truth and repent their malech ways after reading this thread.

What I learned from this thread is enough talk already, just practice and get lost in simran as much as possible.Bless all you souls that motivate us to take the path of Naam by sharing your stories&experiences.

@Jageeraveerji, 😂😂 . U see me on a pedestal which is actually a broken dabba- I keep falling from 😝

On a serious note lemme share my latest discovery- I was going through 'Laava' and I realized that it's like Guru Sahib is describing the four stages to meet the Lord.

soohee mehlaa 4. Soohee, Fourth Mehl:

har pahilarhee laav parvirtee karam drirh-aa-i-aa bal raam jee-o.
In the first round of the marriage ceremony, the Lord sets out His Instructions for performing the daily duties of married life.

banee barahmaa vayd Dharam darirhHu paap tajaa-i-aa bal raam jee-o.
Instead of the hymns of the Vedas to Brahma, embrace the righteous conduct of Dharma, and renounce sinful actions.

Dharam darirhHu har naam Dhi-aavahu simrit naam drirh-aa-i-aa.
Meditate on the Lord's Name; embrace and enshrine the contemplative remembrance of the Naam.

satgur gur pooraa aaraaDhahu sabh kilvikh paap gavaa-i-aa.
Worship and adore the Guru, the Perfect True Guru, and all your sins shall be dispelled.

sahj anand ho-aa vadbhaagee man har har meethaa laa-i-aa.
By great good fortune, celestial bliss is attained, and the Lord, Har, Har, seems sweet to the mind.

jan kahai naanak laav pahilee aarambh kaaj rachaa-i-aa. ((1))
Servant Nanak proclaims that, in this, the first round of the marriage ceremony, the marriage ceremony has begun. ((1))

Second Laav

har doojrhee laav satgur purakh milaa-i-aa bal raam jee-o.
In the second round of the marriage ceremony, the Lord leads you to meet the True Guru, the Primal Being.

nirbha-o bhai man ho-ay ha-umai mail gavaa-i-aa bal raam jee-o.
With the Fear of God, the Fearless Lord in the mind, the filth of egotism is eradicated.

nirmal bha-o paa-i-aa har gun gaa-i-aa har vaykhai raam hadooray.
In the Fear of God, the Immaculate Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and behold the Lord's Presence before you.

har aatam raam pasaari-aa su-aamee sarab rahi-aa bharpooray.
The Lord, the Supreme Soul, is the Lord and Master of the Universe; He is pervading and permeating everywhere, fully filling all spaces.

sant janaa har mayl har paa-i-aa vadbhaagee-aa bal raam jee-o.
Meeting with the humble Saints of the Lord, I have found the Lord, by great good fortune.

nirmal har paa-i-aa har gun gaa-i-aa mukh bolee har banee.
I have found the Immaculate Lord, and I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. I speak the Word of the Lord's Bani.

sant janaa vadbhaagee paa-i-aa har kathee-ai akath kahaanee.
By great good fortune, I have found the humble Saints, and I speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord.

hirdai har har har Dhun upjee har japee-ai mastak bhaag jee-o.
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, vibrates and resounds within my heart; meditating on the Lord, I have realized the destiny inscribed upon my forehead.

jan naanak bolay teejee laavai har upjai man bairaag jee-o. ((3))
Servant Nanak proclaims that, in this, the third round of the marriage ceremony, the mind is filled with Divine Love for the Lord. ((3))

Fourth and Final Laav

har cha-utharhee laav man sahj bha-i-aa har paa-i-aa bal raam jee-o.
In the fourth round of the marriage ceremony, my mind has become peaceful; I have found the Lord.

gurmukh mili-aa subhaa-ay har man tan meethaa laa-i-aa bal raam jee-o.
As Gurmukh, I have met Him, with intuitive ease; the Lord seems so sweet to my mind and body.

har meethaa laa-i-aa mayray parabh bhaa-i-aa an-din har liv laa-ee.
The Lord seems so sweet; I am pleasing to my God. Night and day, I lovingly focus my consciousness on the Lord.

man chindi-aa fal paa-i-aa su-aamee har naam vajee vaaDhaa-ee.
I have obtained my Lord and Master, the fruit of my mind's desires. The Lord's Name resounds and resonates.

har parabh thaakur kaaj rachaa-i-aa Dhan hirdai naam vigaasee.
The Lord God, my Lord and Master, blends with His bride, and her heart blossoms forth in the Naam.

jan naanak bolay cha-uthee laavai har paa-i-aa parabh avinaasee. ((4)(2))
Servant Nanak proclaims that, in this, the fourth round of the marriage ceremony, we have found the Eternal Lord God. ((4)(2))

So the first stage is where we start towards the first step of Dharam and unlike the 'world' find it SWEET- ( isn't that why we are here on this forum?? and both on stage I ( see- I told u so)

Stage II Is as we hear ANHAD SOUNDS

Stage III is when Gurmukhs can travel to Astral Worlds for SANT MANDLIs and sangat

Stage IV is getting absorbed in the LORD - Being one with him

I never thought of lava in this way. Thanks for posing
