There is a word ਮਿਜਾ meaning nature.

Do you mean ਮਿਜ਼ਾਜ - state of health, disposition; nature, temperament, mood

Yes. But I have heard people using short version as well.

Can you give us an example sentence illustrating its correct usage?

Lets talk about the word ਨਵਾ or ਨਵ.

I'm reading an arth of Japji Sahib and it defines the above as 'all'. Wherever I look at online definitions of the word(s) I find either 'new' or 'nine'.

Any brothers come across a concrete definition as 'all'? I'm all talking about the usage in this particular context:

ਨਵਾ ਖੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

I had a pad arth as follows (based on Prof. Sahib Singh):

ਨਵਾ -Nawa - meaning all of the

ਖੰਡਾ -Khandaa -regions/creations/realms of creations/universes

ਵਿਚਿ -Vehch(eh) -inside/ within

ਨਵਾ ਖੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ -Nawa Khandaa -Vehch(eh)- throughout all the universes, realms, and throughout all of creation

ਜਾਣੀਐ- Jaanee(a)ai -to be seen/to be known

ਨਾਲਿ -Naal(i) -with /to be with.to join

ਚਲੈ -Chalai -to go

ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ -Naal(i) Chalai -To follow as followers/to follow as devotees/to follow (idolize in a sense) as fans somewhat

ਸਭੁ -Sab(u) -all/all of

ਕੋਇ - Koa(e)eh - people/mankind/persons

ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ-Sab(u) Koa(e)eh-All of mankind/each and every person

My crappy budhi is telling me it is 'nine realms', used as a metaphoric device to imply a wide area? I know the overall meaning changes little whatever word we interpret it with, but I just wanted to know semantically speaking.

I bet this is an easy one: Anyone tell me the equivalent English term for ਪੁਨਾ and ਪੁਨ as used in the attachment?

Also how would you define ਕਰਤੱਵ? I have a few definitions but wondered if people could elaborate further, especially guys whose first language is Panjabi.

Okay. On the off chance:

Anyone come across this compound word before?

ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ-ਕੋਣ

Here it is in context:

Help appreciated.

in the context of the sentence it seems like it means dictionary.

Not sure about that. Literally it seems to translate along the lines of 'spiritual angle'???

Here is another contextual usage:

It seems to go along the lines of[??]:

To remove these difficulties some commentaries (teekas) have been produced, but the ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ-ਕੋਣ of the students who have studied, have not been blessed with firm conviction.

Where's a desi brother when you need him? lol

Try this: What is the exact meaning of the word ਸੱਦੁ in the context below?

i think this means "call/calling" as in the call of death. ramkali death is read at funerals.

Thanks bro. I realise that I had totally got the wrong end of stick with that sentence but think I am okay now.

Colloquial term:

When I checked a dictionary I got the following:

ਸਿਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਨਾ - to be overbearing; to go to one's head

Still makes no sense, especially with the use of the word ਘੱਟ before it?

It seems to refer to the ability to 'keep a track' so to speak?

Couldn't find the meaning of ਵਲਵਲਿਆਂ anywhere?

what does the following phrase mean?

ਵਲਵਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੁਲਾਰਾ

In a wider context:

In a literal translation of the above, I've come out with:

But due to the spread of ceremonial/overt displays of religiosity [as opposed to true dharam] these musical folk traditions had ceased imparting the humanitarian xxxxxxxxxx of kindness, contentment, love sacrifice and so forth.

If I had to guess, I'd say the missing words/phrase refers to 'reverberation of values/principles' or something like that?

Opinions please:

I'm not sure about this one?

At the time of the arrival of Guru Nanak Sahib, the majority of country viewed those who called themselves ‘renunciates’ of the conventional way of life, with very little love, even if their renunciation was genuine.

Alternatively, are they talking about the lack of love towards general society (ਖਲਕ ਤੇ ਖਲਕਤ??) on part of the hermits (ਤਿਆਗੀ)???
