I don't know, but does it matter? Just enjoy the lyrics and feed your Soul........I don't understand why does it matter if someone tie his dastar in this and that fashion.

He used to be a normal clean-shaven singer but later gets attracted to some BibiJi (Spiritual person) and since then singing only spiritual songs.

The following are his interview links:

It's like the new trend among these new singers. They try to wear their turbans like Muslims, pretending to be sufis. Seems Pakhandi`yish to me.

I agree !

Music industry has a huge influence on youth and they should pay attention to the images being portrayed.

I think you are bang on, as they are trying to come across as mystic sufis.

It feeds the wrong ideas to younger sikh youth who just may get influenced more to sikhi with some songs, which is what the idea should be behind these songs.

In the west, the idea is always ''If it's not broken, then don't fix it ''

However, with indians and punjabis it's more like '' If it's NOT broken, then Break it ''

and we always seem to to a good job in breaking and ruining anything genuine.

Yeah, just look at this song of this Kanwar Grewal:

In this song he does acting of a mast Sufi Darvesh and promotes Islam, Christianity, Hinduism but absolutely no hint of Sikhi anywhere in this video.

I stay wary of Sikh singers who promote Islam in the garb of "Sufism". He could have very easily also promoted the mystical side of Sikhi in his videos but he chooses not to.

I must admit that I do regret starting this topic. My intention was to share the LYRICS of the songs which sounded good at-least to me.....like "Akhiyan: Those eyes are different who can see you"; "Sun Sajna: A song devoted to your Guru". That's how I was enjoying the songs.

But I forgot that people don't enjoy lyrics and/or feeling anymore and I should be careful in future.

Don't get me wrong.

The songs are good with some strength in the lyrics and composition.

Problem nowadays is these videos.

A lot of the time, I will actually avoid the video for the very reason that it ruins the essence of the song.

However, my point was in regards to the image of the pagh being portrayed in this case and the whole sufi image thing going on.

I am a very firm believer that powerful songs by powerful artists can help change the direction of youth in many cases.

Sadly, the industry is such that everyone has to market a video with every track as this is the only way of advertising and surviving.

If you listen to some old tracks without any videos, they become more like the art that music is, since it should leave impressions on your imagination.

(I used to be involved quite a bit with the music industry and this was just one of the many reasons to why i got out!)

Don't get put off in exposing or bringing forward other music and artists.

It's good to keep updated in this manner because nowadays I wouldn't be bothered to go and look for who's the latest, which producer is it or which label it is..,,,,

So...keep them coming, by all means....Thanks

I think another thing that is influencing these things these days is the feeling amongst many Sikhs that the panth is rapidly moving away from a spiritual mooring to a more Panjabi geo-political one.

We all know that Sikhi sees politics as a potential vehicle for a spiritual agenda, but when 'Sikh politics' becomes all about base and lowly politics (like MANY people feel that it has done) I think spirituality (from WHATEVER source) looks even more attractive.

Why are we hating on someone so much he's following one of the Many Many lemme state that again many paths to Waheguru/Parmatma/God isnt sikhi about letting other be and the spread of insaniat. I know from this some of you are going to call me a rss agent a non sikh a pakhandi but Im pretty sure Guru Granth Sahib looks at our current state of mind and view and laughs how ignorant are we this isnt what the gurus taught us to do yet were doing what they told us not to do

Guest Citizen of the World

Hello. I am neither Punjabi nor Sikh but I greatly admire the Sikh message and teachings. I also like Kenwar Grewal's music but I don't understand a word of it. If anyone could be so kind as to share what some of his lyrics mean or point to where I can find a translation , it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Guest Deeper Than depth

I do not think the way someone ties a Daastar represents his spirituality. I know of many who ties perfect Dastaar but practice deceit.
Who are we to judge someone based on appearance, while we do not know the dirt in our own hearts and hands.
If that is the case, then we are all sinners that sin differently, and obviously do not appreciate the teaching in SGGS ji.
I believe this is where the eyes, and the conscious conflict. Can u tell me, what is a Dastaar to a blind man, as it is to his perception of the world.

Has everyone forgotten about all his songs based on Sikhism, based on guru nanak’s teachings and his life, so what he makes a few songs about other religions, guru Nanak once said nor Muslim, nor Hindu, forget religion, he is a man on gods path and he still gets hate

Verily true Harman Jee.

I love his songs, which are of a different level, I would say: mystical.
