namdhari555 16 Report post Posted March 16, 2014 Panj Shabad, Anhad Bani and Sehaj Dhun The terms used in the chapter include panj Shabad, anhad bani and sehaj dhun. These are in the form of music tunes. Panj shabad means the five divine sounds. They resound in the house of mind and also with Truth. The divine speech of Truth is known as Anhad Bani. It is the best of all the speeches. Truth Himself gives this speech. Sehaj dhun is the divine Word of Truth. It is the divine command for our minds and is also known as Hukam. Truth in His grace and mercy reveals His secret Shabad – the insignia of His existence- (Anhad Bani or Sehaj Dhun) to some blessed souls. The Guru gives the Gurmantra and through Gurman- tra the secret Anhad Sabad (Word of Truth) is revealed to the seeker. The Sukhmana channel, located in the center of the spine travels upward making six circles (chakras). These six chakras are called khat chakras (six homes or six doors). These are the six places where the channels of Ida and Pingala meet with the Sukhmana channel. When the divine light of our soul travels through these circles, different types of sounds are produced. Gurbani says: kr kir qwl pKwvju nYnhu mwQY vjih rbwbw ] krnhu mDu bwsurI bwjY ijhvw Duin Awgwjw ] inriq kry kir mnUAw nwcY Awxy GUGr swjw ]1] rwm ko inriqkwrI ] pyKY pyKnhwru dieAwlw jyqw swju sIgwrI ] With the entry of divine light in the six chakras, the divine melody of drum beat appears and eyes act as tambourines. The sound LONGING LOVE FOR TRUTH 25 of the guitar is heard in the forehead area. The sweet flute music resounds in the ears. The mind starts to dance is reflected by presence of sound of shaking ankle bracelets. This is the rhyth- mic dance of mind for the Truth. The Truth, sees all the make-up and decorations of such a mind. (SGGS 884) These sounds resemble the tones and tunes of a cricket, flute, gong, conch shell, horn, tinkling bells, trumpet, rebeck, singing cicadas in the silence of the night, and a falling bronze vessel. Other than five sounds, many more melodies manifest. On the opening of the sixth chakra, the Shabad enters the Gagan (the Tenth Sky). This continuously reverberating melody at the Tenth Sky is called Sehaj Dhun or Anhad sabad. When our mind enters the stage of UnnMunn (inward mind), all the doors open and the tunes and all the shabads start to sound. vwjy sbd Gnyry ] The divine melody of the Shabad vibrates. (SGGS 917) The combined symphony of these sounds is called Anhad Bani. When these melodies are very loud and fast they are called Taar Ghor Bajaantar (The grand orchestra of divine music). The Panch Shabad, the Five Primal Sounds, resonate and resound within; the insignia of the Shabad is revealed there, vibrating gloriously. Worlds and realms, nether regions, solar systems and galaxies are wondrously revealed. The strings and the harps vibrate and resound; the true throne of the Truth is there. Listen to the music at the Sukhman channel and concentrate in the sunn. Contem- plate the Unspoken Speech, and the desires of the mind are dissolved. The heart-lotus is turned upside-down, and is filled with Ambrosial Nectar. This mind does not go out; it does not get distracted. It remembers truth without chanting and the mind is immersed in the Primal Truth of the ages. All the companions of this path are blessed with the five shabads. Sat1176 1,703 Report post Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Clarified in post. The details discussed in those books is too deep to be said on the average stage so you won't find audio recordings of such bachans. CdnSikhGirl 791 Report post Posted August 15, 2014 I have experienced sounds I can't describe to others during some spiritually transformative events. Some were like static, rushing, pusling, electrical, vibrational sounds..... Other times more like wind. I have also heard sounds that were more like chimes like I was surrounded by hundreds of wind chimes. It's really difficult to explain to others that the sounds are indeed actually 'heard' even though they are not something from the outside environment. Thing is what we consider to be sound is only what our brain deciphers the electrical signals to be. ALL sound is internal. Until our brain deciphers the pressure waves in the air and the choclea changes it to electrical signals.... What we perceive as sound does not exist at all. Sound requires a source, a medium, and a receiver. Without the receiver (your ear) it remains as mere pressure waves in a medium (air). So to me the interesting thing is to wonder where are we receiving the signals from, that we are recognizing as sound? And I find it very very awe inspiring that over 500 years ago, our Gurus knew that the basis of sound (and everything in existence) was vibration, long before science knew!! 1 Sahib reacted to this
harsharan000 1,202 Report post Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Pen Jee, thanks for such an inspiring and natural post; but if allowed I would like to share some points along : The brain may be the receptor and decipher the electrical signals received, and is useful when there is body .... But what about, when one deceases, and there is no physical body with its organs? The thing is , the mind receives information through the senses and the physical organs. And all this, is limited between the material parameters. Saints tell us, that the soul has the faculty to see, which is called "nirat", and the faculty to listen, which is called "surat". Christ also referring to this topic says in the Bible: having eyes yee see not, having ears yee hear not. Sachay Patshah Dhan Guru Angad Dev Maharaj also, tells us something on this Sound listening and seeing, in His pure paviter Bani of Raag Majh: ਅਖੀ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਵਿਣੁ ਕੰਨਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ Akhee Baajhahu Vaekhanaa Vin Kannaa Sunanaa अखी बाझहु वेखणा विणु कंना सुनणा To see without eyes; to hear without ears; Here He is telling us, that, that power of Truth, of Shabad or Naam which is within us, is reverberating all the 24 hours, which can be seen and listened to, and for that, we do not need these physical eyes nor these physical ears. So what He is saying is, that Primal Sound or Shabad, has existed right from the very begining, and is the source and origin of everything seen or unseen. Christ also says in the Bible: In the begining was the Word(Shabad), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... Now most of us can not listen or see the reulgence of that Shabad within, and that is because, our minds are filled with the filth of karmas, desires, revenges, anger, hatred, falsehood ...... but that does not mean, that the Shabad of which our Guru Sahibans and all the true Gurmukhs or Bhagats talk about, is something a product of their imagination. Nay. It is their very interaction and experience with that ultimate and Supreme Truth, known as Shabad, Anhad Bani, Amrit Bani, Naam ..... different words have been used by different Lovers of God, at different places and times, but all do refer to the same Power To walk without feet; to work without hands; To speak without a tongue-like this, one remains dead while yet alive. In the above 2 lines, Satguru Jee is telling us, that not only can the soul see and listen without physical eyes and ears, but it can move and fly also, without any feet nor hands to work. Naturally all these references by Guru Jee, are of the spiritual aspects of the soul alone, not of the body... Now we may ask, what is the work of the soul which Guru Jee refers to? Well, He clearly refers to the work of devotion, of bhagtee of Wahiguru .... In which, one need not do anything such as rituals, customs, idol worship, etc(outer practices), in order to have the Darshan of the Jot of Wahiguru, and listen to the divine melodies emananting from that Shabad ..... But that much, as, His bhajan bandagee Further on He reveals us some secrets for one´s spiritual progress and achievements, that, one need not the tongue to recite nor read anything in performing His devotion, but to do His Naam Simran with concentrated attention, in order to gather our dispersed consciousness throughout the nine portals of the body, and enter the spiritual realms, and there with the aid and guidance of Naam, through its Light and Sound, return back to our Nijh Ghar Sach Khand. That is why the Bani says: Shabad Guru, Surat Dhun chela. The Shabad is our True Guru, and the disciples/ sikhs or chelas are our souls. Sat Sree Akal. CdnSikhGirl 791 Report post Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) That's what I was alluding to That everything we 'hear' is really internal.. its really our soul that is hearing and not the physical body. Having experienced the OBE state, I can say that I know what the feeling of movement without feet is like... and hearing without ears... Basically when I say the entire universe is vibration... its because everything arises out of the ONE consciousness... matter is all just energy vibrating at a slow state (comparatively speaking). Our true nature is actually nonphysical. btw I am really loving this forum... as I am finding lots of like minded people here nice to meet you! Lucky 1,844 Report post Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) So should we concentrate on such sounds like high frequence buzz or ring sounds or we should just ignore them??? As far as I realize, in the early stages- we should keep Gurmantar/Shabad at the forefront. I always kept, or tried to keep the main dhyan on the gurmantar and jap. Initially, I probably tried to ignore them because at that point I didn't have much understanding...but I always thought that waheguru knows I'm trying to jap, so he must be putting them there for some reason. But you should acknowledge them and not let them digress you away from gurmantar. Later, the sounds start to get captivating and magnetic, and they begin to pull you in deeper. harsharan000 1,202 Report post Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) So should we concentrate on such sounds like high frequence buzz or ring sounds or we should just ignore them??? As Lucky Jee said, one should start with the Simran/jap. But one should keep in mind that the simran is needed for concentration and focusing one´s dispersed attention. One may ask, o.k, but concentration for what? Well, for the only purpose to concentrate that much sufficient , as to perceive the inner reality, and Nam or Shabad. Throughout the teachings, we know that Wahiguru, is in reality nothing, but Shabad. And as such infinite conscious energy, which has Jot as refulgence and blissful sound, as its manifestations in those spiritual realms, especially more as such, in Sach Khand. So repetition of Gurmanter or Nam Simran, has a purpose to fulfill also. It is like a rubber ring we put to a child, to learn to be in the water, and be an aid to learn swimming. Once the child learns swimming and has become familiar with the water with continuos practice, it does not need the rubber ring anymore. The child jumps directly into the water (swimming pool / beach) and starts swimming in a natural manner. All our preparations in Simran or meditation, are also for preparing and purifying ourselves, in order to catch hold of that Sound which is constantly reverbating within, and to ultimately go with it by mounting on it, and in the end, to merge into it. So instead to ignore the sounds you hear, rather be thankful to the Lord Wahiguru, for blessing you to listen His voice (sound/s). May God bless you. Sat Sree Akal. Thanks to the members on this form, gyan from Guru Granth Sahib, few other Gurmukhs, reading Sri Guru Nanak Chamatkar book by Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh Ji. I have also come to realise the Gurmantra/GurShabad should be the most important. As Lucky said "sounds start to get captivating and magnetic, and they begin to pull you in deeper" This is also mentioned on another site. "it is easy for the mind to get over-involved - almost OCD - in listening to inner sounds and trying to determine which is better or "right". In the process, the mind becomes like a dog incessantly chasing its tail. Instead, Charan Singh tells us to simply keep repeating and focusing on Simran. The more your attention is wholly and solely focused upon Simran, the more it will be immersed in the Sound Current - and, in the process, the subordinate sounds will fade into the background and the real, Eternal Sound will emerge into your focus, lift you up above body-consciousness and guide you within" As it says in Guru Granth Sahib chant the Gurmantra, day and night while standing, sitting, sleeping, eating, walking, working, etc. Gurmukh said if we can not make our mind sit without taking thoughts for 3 hours then it will be very heard to merge into naam. Therefore, must keep doing simran to make mind sit. If we take a thought to transition from Gurmantra to Naam then we take a thought which will put us back into Maya, Therefore, make mind so still that when Naam comes it automatically pulls you within without you taking a thought. Also to add, Gurpreet Shimla Wale in his kirtan/katha mentioned that we are to keep chanting the Gurmantra because it will eventually go into rom rom (heartbeat and cells). I think that once Gurmantra goes into heartbeat, then one is able to listen to the Naad. It says in Guru Granth Sahib Ji "the Sound-current of the Naad vibrates in each and every heart". If I made any mistakes, forgive me, I too am still learning on this path. Man tan antari Hari Hari Mant. Nanak bhagtan kai ghar sadaa anand: The Mantra of God's Name, Har, Har, is deep Within my mind and body. O Nanak, eternal bliss fills the home of God's devotees (sggs 802). Raam Naam Mant hirdai daivai Nanak milan subhaaye: The Mantra of the Raam Naam is enshrined Within the heart, O Nanak, and we merge with Him so easily (sggs 444). harsharan000 1,202 Report post Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) Simran or repetition of Wahiguru, is done by the mind or with attention, at different levels of energy or consciousness. As said previously, it is solely done, to be able to concentrate our attention and enter the finer realms and get certain purification also. And that´s it. It can not take one farther, as it is done within the gross or mental planes. Because it is the mind which needs to get purified. The body as we know, is insentient or inert, so it does not get anything to do with it, only as much as only to cooperate with the mind in the right and a relaxed manner, so it can stay without moving as long as possible. The soul does not do the repetition nor simran. The soul is pure by nature, it is same as in essence as Wahiguru Akal Purukh. Other thing is, that, it is covered with dirt and filth by the different subtle layers due to the collection of it, since aeons, since it left it´s Father´s House( Sach Khand) and came in association and influence of mind and maya ....to the extent, that the soul has forgotten it´s true nature, so it does nothing to regain it´s True self, and merge in Wahiguru Akal Purukh. And so, this cleaning is done at two levels. Firstly at the lower or mental level, the mind gets purified with the simran, then secondly, ath e higher level in the causal plane, which is storehouse of all our karmas and these can be only wiped, with the Amrit or Shabad Dhun at that level. And the consequence of this cleaning and purification, allows us to cross and reach Parbraham, and from there on, by mounting the vehicle of Nam or Shabad, the soul reaches the True region, Sach Khand, which is beyond any dissolutions)Parlay) and grand dissolutions(maha parlay). Once reaching there, the soul in the vehicle of Nam, gets the Darshan of Sat Purukh or Satnam, and becomes one, by the Grace and Mercy of Wahiguru Akal Purukh, by getting dissolved in that Sat Shabad. So, we must always keep in mind, Wahiguru is a Nirankar Conscious Energy(Shabad). So we too, if it is His Hukum, we shall blend in Him, just as He is. We should not think, that by reaching there in Sach Khand, we shall see our Guru Sahibans or the different Bhagats or Gurmukhs.... No. The Bani says, Sach Khand vaseh Nirankar. This means, only He is there. This Conscious Energy or Shabad, when descended at the lower planes, assumed the human form to let us know about Him, and when our Guru Sahibans left this plane, again they merged back into that Satnam Samundar, becoming one. Let us say, if a drop of water falls into an ocean, can we trace it? No, isn´t it? The drop was a drop, as long as it was in a container. Once it falls or gets into the ocean, it no longer is a drop, which was an illusion of form, size and colour, due to its separation from it´s Origin and being in a container ( different bodies : physical, astral or causal ) So if we go to see, in the end, in this process of our union with Him, it is nothing to our credit, but it is only the mahima of Wahiguru Akal Purukh, Nam, Shabad, Anhad Bani, or Sound Current .... And for that very reason, we should never ever underestimate any sound we may hear in the begining. Our purification and the ability to catch hold of the purer sounds goes hand by hand. The more our purity, the finer(subtler) the sound we listen to, at that stage. Sat Sree Akal. May God bless all. Sahib 11 Report post Posted August 25, 2014 The ringing in the ears which is called Tinnitus is not Anhad Shabad. Radhasoamis focus on the tinnitus and think it is Anhad Shabad they are hearing. Anhad Shabad or the unstuck sound is something that is very divine and out of this world and this avastha is realized only in the higher stages in the spiritual ladder. i have read a lot of beas books..radhaswamis dont consider tinnitus as anhad shabad..but they consider that these innitial sounds are the way to the anhad shabd..from practical experience my grandfather who is both amrit dhari and radhaswami once heard a bell sound which took him out of the body..he could see his body in front..the he was caried by some force and he saw a very bright light...he said that it was so bright that even sun is nothing when compared..it all happened due to that uplifting bell sound..so i believe along with waheguru jap this exercise should also be included 2 Lucky and chzS1ngh reacted to this
chzS1ngh 87 Report post Posted September 4, 2014 with Guru Ji's grace i have experienced this Loud Bell sound, and it literally took me away... I'm not sure there is any additional exercise here....i was only doing Waheguru Simran during Amrit Vela...and the first time i heard the Bell was when i went back to bed after my Simran to get a couple of extra hours sleep...so i wasn't doing anything in particular or even listening out for sounds So then what could it be other than Grace...all is Waheguru. Other people may be able to induce the same experience through effort or method, but me personally i havent...i also found that it literally whisked me away...i didnt have much choice in the matter i am finding more and more, that at some point on this journey, you just have to surrender more and more, and the more your surrender, the more unravels.. 1 Ragmaala reacted to this
Sahib 11 Report post Posted September 18, 2014 You are right in your way..leaving upon his will and grace helps us to clean a lot of garbage in mind.and this is in itself a spiritual exercise...less the mind more the sound..atlast these sounds are just the shadows of the naam or the primal sound
Truthseeker 61 Report post Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) When God's name dwells on the tongue ofthe meditator, he gets gustation. When the morsel ofbread is placed on the tongue, one gets relishment. By uttering 'Waheguru', one gets great bliss. Uptil now God's name has dwelt on the tongue; as yet awareness has come that the tongue has started getting great bliss. The repetition ofsaying God's name should continue and the Shabad will go still deeper. The sound of Waheguru, Waheguru, that has come up from the navel, and is manifesting through Praa, Basanati, Madhma and Baikharee, ifthe same sound ofWaheguru, Waheguru goes down from the throat (Basanti); such a person starts hearing Anahad Naad and he has reached upto the centre where the instrument is ringing, but the sound ofthe instrument is coming from afar. At this state the glimpse of Shabad starts appearing. 55Sometimesthe flavour comes, sometimes not. Sometimes the sound is heard, sometimes not. This is the state when the meditator reaches near the door ofGod or near the Anahad Naad and Guru. At present only sound or shabad is being heard but His glimpse has not been seen. Tongue has got relishment and the ears have begun to hear but the glimpse and splendour of God has not appeared. One has reached upto the Guru but not upto God. One has reached near the door but entry into His Abode has not taken place. The repetition ofWaheguru, Waheguru should continue and this sound Basanti should go down and reach praa , that is , it should collide with navel. Then navel will completely open. This opening is just like the opening at the time of death and navel opens completely with the last breath and the body dies. But when navel opens completely with the strike ofsound ofWaheguru, body remains alive but the mind dies. Then the Supreme splendour spreads and the tongue becomes quite and does not repeat Waheguru, Waheguru http://www.gurmatveechar.com/books/English_Books/Shabad.Guru.Surat.Dun.Chela.by.Giani.Sant.Singh.Maskeen.(GurmatVeechar.com).pdf Edited September 21, 2014 by Truthseeker 3 chzS1ngh, Sat1176 and tva prasad reacted to this
