Guru Granth Sahib Quotes On Body, Fitness And Health?

Recommended Posts

Let the Lotus Feet of the Lord abide within your heart, and with your tongue, chant God's Name.

O Nanak, meditate in remembrance on God, and nurture this body. ||2||

Prof Sahib Singh says the last line means 'remember the gods name who created/nurtured your body'.

But Fareedkoti Teeka seems to agree with the english translation:

Here's one against intoxicants:

Great resource relating Gurbani and health.

View of Gurbani on keeping good health

Our bestseller! This pothee includes methods in which to keep the mind and body healthy.  It uses Gurbanee to discuss how to avoid sickness and take care of one’s body.  It includes healthy living disciplines to go along with a healthy diet to ensure a fit life supported by Banee.  It talks about traditional medicine and discusses how to take care of current sickness. Audiobook is not available yet. Highlights of the book are:

  1. Tea, coffee and other intoxicants are very harmful for the body and cause dryness, headache, stomach problems.
  2. Use organic cane sugar only, no white sugar.
  3. Mill wheat flour (ਆਟਾ) at home using organic wheat grains. Use grain mills like Nutrimill, Wonder Mill etc and keep the flour setting on thick. This floud digests very fast and will not cause drowsiness. It will remove constipation. The flour available in Punjabi stores is expired, milled at high speed which destorys all nutrients.
  4. Punjabi Tarka (ਤੜਕਾ) is bad for the body and leads to heart attack, ulcer, anger and bad thoughts.
  5. Fried food is prohibited by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. (ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਭੱਛਤ ਪਕਵਾਨਾ|| ਉਪਜਤ ਰੋਗ ਦੇਹ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਨਾ||)
  6. Being concerned about how to make one's meal tastier prevents one from being blessed with Amrit ras from within.
  7. Turmeric (ਹਲਦੀ), Lemon and Khattee Lassi (ਖੱਟੀ ਲੱਸੀ) prevent and cure cancer.
  8. Combination of cranberry juice, cinnamon (ਦਾਲ ਚੀਨੀ), carom seeds (ਅਜਵੈਣ), amla powder, turmeric (ਹਲਦੀ), fennel seeds (ਸੌਂਫ) is keeps cholestrol under control.

A classic case of gurbani misrepresentation.

How can those who eat meat, drink blood and suck bones of humans become pure?

Have to take it in this context:

The kings are tigers, and their officials are dogs; they go out and awaken the sleeping people to harass them. The public servants inflict wounds with their nails. The dogs lick up the blood that is spilled.

The tuk is therefore condemning exploitation done by rulers and the elite especially & has nothing to do with meat eating.

Bro, please read below.

The uthanka for the shabad (containing this tuk) is as follows:

A Qazi asked a butcher to kill a chicken. Due to a mistake committed by the butcher, blood splashed on the clothes of the Qazi. Qazi started scolding his servant and said that my clothes have become impure. Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev jee Maharaaj was on his way to work and saw them. He came there and recited the shabad. The updesh was that if by blood stains, clothes have become impure, how can those people who eat flesh/blood of animals, keep their minds pure.

This arth was for the Qazi and is for meat eaters.

"If blood has stained your clothing you say your clothes have become impure.

How can the mind of those

Who eat meat, drink blood and suck bones become pure?"

This arth applies to corrupt and tyrant people.

Je raṯ lagai kapṛai jāmā ho▫e palīṯ.

If one's clothes are stained with blood, the garment becomes polluted.

Those who suck the blood of human beings-how can their consciousness be pure?

A classic case of ignorance/narrow-mindedness and trying to restrict Gurbani's meanings, according to one's brain (Manmat).

The one saying fried food is forbidden in Sikhi is talking about narrowmindedness. The one who tells Sikhs not to wear certain colors is preaching about narrowmindedness.

Have you ever read Guru Granth Sahib fully once? Sehaj paath kita kade ya eve tapi janda copy paste karda?

Fried food is not good for health.

Quote

Fried foods damage your body and brain in many different ways, and it's not just a long term consequence, but a short term detriment as well.

Narrow mindedness or advanced science (Gurmat)?

Scientific evidence linking the color red to sex.

Quote

"Social psychologists with an evolutionary bent are in love with the color red. Women wear red, according to this view, as a sexual signal to attract men (e.g. Elliot et al., 2012). In non-human primates, females show they’re ready to mate by displaying red on their bodies, including face, chest, or genitalia." [1]

Focus on Gurbani and you will find peace. Don't worry about my personal life. Most likely, you should have other things to worry about..

You fool, where is the eating meat and sucking bones part there in Gurbani? Show me in the Tuk in Gurmukhi, I challenge you, don't run away like always.

Do you know blood is related to flesh and bones? Do you believe in science or not?

Sangat jee, bhul chuk maaf.

What a fool.

Show me where EATING MEAT and SUCKING bones is mentioned in the Tuk you quoted?
Put up or shut up. Don't beat around the bush as always.

Do you agree or not - blood is related to flesh and bones?

I never said that the above, is the literal translation of the tuk.

What a fool.

You really are a papi, twisting Bani for your own purposes.

Thanks a lot for the comments.

Maharaaj gave this teaching to a Qazi.

When Maharaaj said - if a human drinks blood (ਰਤੁ) - which implied eating meat and sucking on bones as that Qazi used to eat meat. Meat eaters also suck on animal bones.

Blood of an animal is spilled and then people eat its meat and suck on its bones. I think, it is pretty simple to understand.

Paapiman, you gave the sentence you wanted but it is a gross misinterpretation for anyone to add their own words. It is totally wrong to add eating meat and sucking bones in this translation.

ps. I have never seen people suck on bones.

Can you shown me in the Gurmukhi sentence where the word "mind" is?

Sorry Bhaji but this is a false representation of the story made up by people to promote vegetarianism.

It is a sakhi that reinforces the story of Malik Bhago who had prepared a meal for all the sadhus of his town. Why did blood come out of those rotis of Malik> Was Malik serving meat to all the Sadhus? Or was Malik a meat-eater?

The sakhi reinforces the ideal that any dishonesty or usurping others rights results in one's conduct being stained.
