Bachitar Natak quote - what do you think?

Was hunting a quote for N30 in Bachitar Natak when I came across this, what do people think? Translation by Dr. Jodh Singh and Dr. Dharam Singh.  

 

ਦੋਹਰਾ

 ਕੋਈ ਪੜਤਿ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਕੋਈ ਪੜਤ ਪੁਰਾਨ। ਕਾਲ ਨ ਸਕਤ ਬਚਾਇ ਕੈ ਫੋਕਟ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਦਾਨ। 

Somebody reads Quran and the other one reads Puran, but all these are futile ways because they cannot save you from the cycle of time (death)

 

ਚੌਪਈ

ਕਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪੜਤ ਕੁਰਾਨਾ।  ਬਾਚਤ ਕਿਤੇ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਅਜਾਨਾ। 

Many crores of people are reciting the (holy) Quran jointly and many ignorants are reading the Puranas.

 

ਅੱੰਤਿਕਾਲਿ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਮ ਨ ਆਵਾ। ਦਾਵ ਕਾਲ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਨ ਬਚਾਵਾ।

At the end none would be of any avail and none would be in a position to save from the stroke of time (death) (48)

Couple of points:

1. Real Self-atma cannot be found in reading scriptures, it has bought in to direct experience and directly realized.  

2. Puran has mahavakas - great unity statements of unity of soul and supreme soul if one just wraps their heads around just reads them without any deep contemplation thats fuitile.

3. Here sri guru gobind singh ji talks about fokat dharam in a very universal sense not confined to just quran or puran but including all dharams and karams :

ਸਭ ਕਰਮ ਫੋਕਟ ਜਾਨ ॥ ਸਭ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਮਾਨ ॥
सभ करम फोकट जान ॥ सभ धरम निहफल मान ॥
Know all the Karmas (actions) as useless, consider all the religious paths of no value.

ਬਿਨ ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥ ਸਭ ਕਰਮ ਭਰਮ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੨੦॥੫੦॥
बिन एक नाम अधार ॥ सभ करम भरम बिचार ॥२०॥५०॥
Without the prop of the only Name of the Lord, all the Karmas be considered as illusion.20.50.

 

ਬਿਨੁ ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਚਿਤ ਲੀਨ ॥ ਫੋਕਟੋ ਸਰਬ ਧਰਮਾ ਬਿਹੀਨ ॥੨੦॥੧੪੦॥
बिनु एक नाम इक चित लीन ॥ फोकटो सरब धरमा बिहीन ॥२०॥१४०॥
Without the single-minded absorption in he Lord`s Name, All the religious rituals are useless. 20.140
