Stay away from pride - Gurbani Verdict

Recommended Posts

Satguru jee hates egoistic people, whether they take pride in their worldly feats or spiritual ones. Ego is the most powerful of all Vikars. People, who are infected by other four vikars, can be relatively forgiven with ease by Satguru jee.

Ang 560

Ego is at variance with the Name: the two dwell not in one place.

You've always said that Brahm referred to paratma, this bani seems to suggest otherwise?

You have to understand it in terms of "separate religions", otherwise, you'll get stuck in a tangled mess of conflicting stories and viewpoints.

The way to untangle the mess is to untangle the different religions involved. This will help to understand why authors are saying what they are saying.

The name Brahm and the stories that those Brahmi gurus taught their sikhs were meant to teach their sikhs about Primal One.

However for other religions this was not the case. For the gurus of other religions, Brahm was just a character, whom these Brahmi guys were treating as Primal One. The gurus of other religions, had their own stories which involved Brahm as a character that interacted with the Primal One.

To repeat -

One group is teaching about the qualities of the Primal One through certain stories, and calling him Brahm.

The other groups sees Brahm and his stories as only a character, and not referring to Primal One. The other groups sometimes use the Brahm character to teach about qualities of Primal One, who they call with a different name such as Vishnu, Shiv, Allah, etc.

And this leads to a duality which previously did not exist, and does not exist for the Brahmi religion.

Let me know if I have totally confused the hell out of you yet.

Beautiful analogy given in Katha by Gyani Avtar Singh jee Badnikalanwale.

  • Pride of worldly success are like iron leg cuffs
  • Pride of spiritual success are like gold leg cuffs

Both are still cuffs. Do you think that a slave/prisoner will be happy, if his cuffs are made of gold?

Both these prides are very lethal and big barriers, in the journey towards Sri Satguru jee.

And what religions were these?

ANG 1089

The Vedas proclaim aloud that the Reverend Lord likes not pride.

They, who die of ego, go bereft of salvation. They die, are born and come again.

Beautiful line by Bhai Saab Bhai Gurdaas jee Maharaaj:

Kari Kay Neech Sadaavanaa Taan Prabhu Laykhai Andari Paaee.

If somebody now, in spite of being a doer, erases from his self this sense and prefers to be called lowly, only then he can remain in the good books of the Lord.

Strong verses from Sri Dasam Granth Sahib (Sri Brahma Avtar Sahib). Almighty Lord's speech to Brahma jee after his repentance (Meditation for 1 million years) for the heinous sin of Pride.

From Sri Assa Kee vaar Sahib jee

Everyone calls himself perfect; none call themselves imperfect.

If the weight of honor is placed on the scale, then, O Nanak, one sees his true weight. ||2||
