I am the oldest and most mature member here. All of these kids take my advice. So putt listen up, it's coming from my 80 years of life experiences ( I am an advanced buddhi). I would say go talk to a doctor even though I have nothing to do with doctors, but in your situation she or he can guide you well. I have had a mild OCD when I became a health freak and te amount of time I washed my hands( sorry environment) and checked stuff was crazy. I don't know if you know about emotional freedom technique, it's a good thing . Search on YouTube bunch of videos there. You do need help since things are crazy. So do get an appt before it goes more crazy. Try hypnosis or deep breathing to calm the mind.

@singh11 I encourage you to pay attention to the good advice from Dalsingh101, Gunahgar and bibi GurpreetKaur ji!

Seriously suggest a referral from your family physician/GP for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy via specialist/psychologist.

I've personally had CBT for a few years with a psychologist and find it amazing. In my case, it was recommended for my serious injuries and to help me cope since I was determined to work through it without conventional prescription meds. I think this worried all my therapists and they pushed me into the counselling.  In all honesty, I can tell you that it really helps change your perception in a very gurmat attitude because it trains you to think and act outside of your own ego. Also from my experience, I can tell you that you can't target the problem areas that need addressing by use of cbt videos or books but you definitely need the physical guidance and counselling of a professional. They are trained to provide this service and now how to address each area with their expertise.

They will also give you techniques that will be tailored just for you to help you focus and become efficient with your paath and simran. I have been quite lucky since my psychologist has deep spiritual interests of her own and she has been able to help guide with improvisation of additional ideas and methods.

Just talking to the Sangat on here has made me feel better, I don't really talk about these issues cause I don't have any practicing Sikh friends, but i feel more focused now.

Bro, where do you live? You don't have to answer, if you don't want to.

I did watch some CBT videos, but when I get bad thoughts related to Guru Ji or stuff against Gurmat I usually feel down because its building up bad karma, especially when my head says something bad about sants.

Bro, these thoughts are natural. Have firm faith in Maharaaj. Maharaaj forgave hardcore criminals such as Sajjan Thag (murderer), Khoda (cannibal), Sau Suhagan (adulterous), Boomiya (robber) and many many more sinners.

Do you think, Maharaaj cannot forgive millions/billions of such unintentional thoughts in seconds?

Divide your mind into two parts - one part, which is trying to be a Sikh and the other part, which is trying to send all types of negative/dirty thoughts into your mind. Whenever a bad thought arises in your mind, you should have the following line of thinking.

It is not me, who is thinking like this. It is someone else, who has send this thought.

Practical example - You are going down the street, a dog starts barking at you from someone's backyard. Will you start focusing on him? You will probably look at him and just keep walking.

Therefore,

  • Keep doing naam simran (do it loudly and focus on the sound) and keep ignoring any thoughts, which come into your mind.
  • Listen to katha of Nitnem and the shabads (whose Jaap who do). When you know the meanings of Gurbani, it will help you to concentrate better.
  • Try to have a set routine. Wake up at Amritvela, take a bath and then do Simran.
  • Keep your mind busy. An idle mind is a devil's workshop.
  • Workout might help too.
  • Have Patience - Pyramids were not built in a day. It will take time, before you start noticing a difference.

Because of my OCD, I wash my hands alot and my skin gets bad after a few days. I also live in family which drinks and has meat, so I feel like stuff is contaminated.

Bro, you need to understand the gravity of your situation. If you keep washing your hands excessively, you can potentially develop Eczema. Daas knows someone, who has Eczema. The medication, which is prescribed for eczema by Specialists, has steroids in them and it has side effects. It can possibly start entering your blood stream, after long term use.

Don't get freaked out, but you need to address your problem asap. OCD can potentially lead to other medical conditions.

@singh11 - Paaji, have you tried getting an Sri Akhand Paath Sahib/Sri Sampat Akhand Paath Sahib/Sri Sehaj Paath done for your health?

Bhul chuk maaf

Nope, in my area they charge a lot of money for getting Paath done and don't really agree with charging so much. Hopefully Guru Ji blesses with the ability to do Sri Sehaj Paath when i'm older.

My mum is going to Bangal Sahib soon and said she will do Ardaas for me.

You can wash your hands twice, but don't spend too much time scrubbing your hands. If you are taking more than 2 minutes to wash your hands, that is excessive.

also looking at pornography is not good, but don't beat yourself up about it.  use your guilt productively by saying next time you will improve

i hope you don't keep your religious books etc in the same room that you view pornography, if so please remove them to a different room.

Also, if you wish to speak to a Psychiatrist. you can keep it a secret from your parents. Don't tell your parents and meet a Psychiatrist.
