Last English translation is a little bit incorrect.

This charitar is very confusing, lots of missing pieces.

What did Sakhi tell the Shah ? Why did Shah not enquire about the king when he came in ? Maybe Sakhi just told Shah to reach home.

What was the need to throw Mewe in the Chatai ? What purpose would that serve ? Was King hiding in there for a long time & got hungry? dont think so.

Maybe this charitar shows how women can get jealous of each other & try to throw each other under the bus.

The maid told the Shah that his wife is meeting someone in his absence.

Maybe the Shah did not see anyone in the house (as the king was hidden), so he did not ask any questions.

Probably the king was in there for a good amount of time, as in the Charitar, it states that she cooked food for her husband, which would have taken sometime for sure.

In this Charitar, the actions of the 2 women are representing the Queen in the original story.

Firstly Jag Jot Mati has illicit relations with the King on her mind, as the Queen did with her stepson.

Secondly Chitarkala on being refused by the King, has revenge on her mind as the Queen did with her stepson.

The wrapping up of a King in a rug and being stood against the wall of the house could represent the inability of the King to manouvere/him being restricted in every way. The rug  may actually be his Queen. Is the rug a strait-jacket?

The throwing of the food into the sack IMO represents an easy task for the husband to perform so Jag Mati can then lavish praise on him for being so skillful. Here she is massaging his ego from his accomplishment of an easy task.

Then she calls him a King which he doesn't understand but again flatters him by saying that she is under his full control at all times. Again here she is using flattery to which the husband is responsive.

This is again relating to the original story where the Queen having illicit relations in mind and revenge in her heart, by use of her flattery and ego-boosting talk is keeping the King from using his intellect to question her properly.

Paapiman, if you wish to make some headway with the Charitars then keep adding them. Try and add at least one a week please.

Bro, will try (Gurparsaad) to post at least one every two weeks.

If anyone else is interested in posting them, please do so. My humble request would be to follow the sequence, if possible.

We can learn a important lesson from this Charitar. Some people might not like being refused on their offer. Such people will keep a grudge in their minds regarding that offer (as we see in this Charitar). Therefore, one has to be careful with such people.

For example, if you are a politician/minster/manager, etc, people will definitely ask you for favors. It is important that you keep a note of any absurd/out of ordinary requests that you may receive (and refuse) and be careful with such people.

Throwing of the nuts into the sack could also indicate humiliation of the King. Usually, food is thrown towards animals, birds, etc, and given/handed over to humans. King has been reduced to a position (because of his own deeds) of an animal.

Maybe Maharaaj is trying to tell his Sikhs, if you commit a shameful act like this King, you will be humiliated in this world and the next.

I think the point the minister is trying to give the king by this tale is: Just as the Raja in this story has been reduced to a position of an animal, - so too have you been reduced in your status as a king. Instead of being engaged in royal and governmental duties (as kings are supposed to), you have engaged yourself in trivial drama involving your own family and dynasty that you are about to destroy..You are reduced as a king - the dirt of this world is being thrown at you and you are eating it

Well spotted. Never noticed that.

It made me think of this shabad:

ਰਾਜਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇ ਹਥਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
The king administers justice only if his palm is greased.

ਕਹੈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
No one is moved by the Name of God. ||3||

ਮਾਣਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
O Nanak, they are human beings in form and name only;

ਕਰਣੀ ਕੁਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ॥
by their deeds they are dogs - this is the Command of the Lord's Court.

That's an excellent point.

Another alternate interpretation

Chitar Singh has wrapped Chitarmati in a rug, due to the coerced marriage.

Throwing of the nuts could indicate feeding.

Therefore, the wise minister might be trying to tell Chitar Singh that even though you are feeding Chitarmati, she might be feeling as if she is a prisoner in your kingdom, being fed like an animal in captivity. You need to think if she is really happy (on an emotional/physical level) with you or not?
