Narration wise, it's like the chariters start with some really strikingly shocking (because of murder) stories, (maybe to quickly grab the kings attention?), and have now moved on to less dramatic, more subtle tales. We'll see how and when they may move back to the more shocking stuff. But right now, we should note that the chariters seem to encompass all levels of society, connecting them in some way to the ruling classes. I think another aspect to it, is that it alludes (at the end) to the way many women seem to love a 'mysterious' man. Some women get bored of predictable men after a while, so the endings could be a hint towards keeping some things back and not becoming predictable and keeping your women intrigued to a degree. It also tells men not to be complacent and to give importance to studying female psychology? dalsingh101 Posted May 3, 2016 Report Share Posted May 3, 2016 Linking the text back to the original purpose of the mantri trying to illuminate the king: Here he is showing the king an example of a deceitful women who is proclaiming her virtue whilst lusting after someone else. Just like the kings wife who lusted after the king's son. In the tale, he shows how despite almost being caught out, the women is quick enough to deflect the situation (imagine the king's son telling his father about his step-mother's advances). So the mantri is directly alluding to the king's personal situation.
