This can be good karma or bad karma depending on the deed you do I think it is possible in some cases to balance out negative karma through good karma (doing good deeds, simran etc) BUT I dont think it is all deeds that can be cancelled out. And it also depends on your intentions. Is there a way for you to return that chewing gum and coins to the owner? Sins can be destroyed by Naam Simran. There is no doubt about it. As long as you sincerely repent and never repeat the same mistake, you should be fine. If you are an Amritdhari, you can go for a Peshi, if this incident is troubling your mind.
