The momentum seems to be slipping. F Will do, although having read Jaggis Panjabi translation, that seems far more accurate than Bindras work. It isn't a long story at all. The significance is of the word "ਤਕੀਆ" which means support, and in the setting that is being used, it can also mean a pillow. This is what I think from this: The King and the woman are together when the husband arrives home. The woman throws a sheet over the King and arranges for him to be a support/pillow on their bed. Then the woman is involved with her husband on the bed with the King underneath them. So the message here is that the wise minister is saying to King Chitar Sen that your Queen has throw a sheet over you (like a parda) so you cannot see what she is doing. Sometimes in Panjabi we say "ਪੱਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੱਤ ਦੇ ਪਰਦਾ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ." The question of support comes from the fact that the King beleived the Queen absolutely without trying to ascertain the truth. The King himself has become a support for the Queen because of his own infatuation/moh with her. Moving on from this: In fear the King is not able to breathe out loudly for fear of arousing suspicion. Here it seems to me the minister is saying to the King that just as the King in the charitar knew he was in the wrong and was to scared to breathe because of this, ask yourself whether you are too scarewd to question your own feelings towards the Queen. Chitar Singh probably knows in his mind that he cannot sexually satisfy his wife, due to his age, but understandably does not want to talk about it to anyone or contemplate too much about it.
