Well, in this Charitar, you cannot really blame the princess for betraying her paramour. She could have been possibly seriously punished (depending on the law of the kingdom) and therefore, had to save herself.

They were doing something in secrecy. The lover had to be vigilant (this was a life and death situation for him) and should not have left the place without accompanied by the maid. He should have woken up the maid.

Both parties were immoral in character. One made a mistake and paid heavily for it.

The paramour was just an ordinary person (did not belong to any royal family). He was having a sexual fling with a princess. This decision, on his part, to engage sexually with a member of the royal family was itself a very unwise and risky one.

Please have a look at a quote from Chanakhya jee with regards to having a relationship with the royal family.

Quote

Fire, water, women, fool, snake and the royal family - beware of all these. They can prove fatal.

From this Charitar, I see that the woman very readily accpeted her paramour dying. She brushed off his death sentence without any concern, even though she had very strong (lustful) feelings towards him. We see this in the root story, that the Queen had very strong (lustful) towards the Prince but was totally disconnected to the fact that he had received a death sentence because of it.

Even Chitar Mati could have been seriously punished (in the base tale), if her sexual advances towards her step son were to somehow become know to Chitar Singh. She had to save herself from such a future possible outcome and hence the false allegation.
