ਚੌਪਈ ॥

Chaupaee

ਰਾਇਕ ਰਾਠ ਮਹੋਬੇ ਰਹੈ ॥

A Rajput used to’ live in Mahobe city.

ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਜਗ ਕਹੈ ॥

In the world he was known as Mittar Singh.

ਦਛਿਨ ਪੈਂਡ ਚਲਨ ਨਹਿ ਦੇਈ ॥

ਕੂਟਿ ਲੂਟਿ ਲੋਗਨ ਕਹ ਲੇਈ ॥੧॥

He would not let people go by, and used to rob them after beating.(l)

ਜੋ ਲਿੰਡਿਯਾਇ ਤਿਹ ਕੌ ਧਨ ਲ੍ਯਾਵੈ ॥

ਜੋ ਐਠੈ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਵੈ ॥

He looted the cowards, and, those, who’ stood fast, he killed them.

ਲੂਟਿ ਕੂਟਿ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕੌ ਲੇਈ ॥

ਅਧਿਕ ਦਰਬੁ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੌ ਦੇਈ ॥੨॥

After looting all, he used to came and give riches to the woman.(2)

ਏਕ ਦਿਵਸ ਧਾਰਾ ਕੋ ਗਯੋ ॥

ਸੂਰਮਾਨ ਸੰਗ ਭੇਟਾ ਭਯੋ ॥

Once, when he went to’ rob, he came across a warrior.

ਹੈ ਦੌਰਾਇ ਚਲਤ ਗਿਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥

 

ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਆਨ ਸੂਰਮਨ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥੩॥

While chasing his horse to run fast, he fell aver and the warriors caught him.(3)

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

Dohira

ਬਾਧਿ ਕਾਲਪੀ ਲੈ ਗਏ ਤਾਹਿ ਹਨਨ ਕੇ ਭਾਇ ॥

He tied him up and brought him to’ Kaalpi Nagar to kill.

ਤਨਕ ਭਨਕ ਸੁਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੂੰਚੀ ਆਇ ॥੪॥

Getting the news, his wife arrived there, too.(4)

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

Chaupaee

ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਗੋਬਰ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਧਰੈ ॥

ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਸੰਕਾ ਨਹਿ ਕਰੈ ॥

She had been collecting the cakes of horses’ dung so that no body could suspect.

ਪਤਿ ਕੌ ਬਧ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਯੌ ਧਾਈ ॥

ਇਹ ਮਿਸਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਪਹੂਚੀ ਆਈ ॥੫॥

She came running fast to reach there to save her husband from hanging.(5)

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

Dohira

ਝਟਕਿ ਬਾਹ ਤੇ ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿਹ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਲਯੋ ਚਰਾਇ ॥

She jerked his (warrior’s) hand and took her husband an her horse.

ਤਾਹੀ ਕੌ ਅਸਿ ਛੀਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਚੰਡਾਰਹਿ ਘਾਇ ॥੬॥

And taking his awn sward she killed him (the warrior).(6)

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

Chaupaee

ਜਵਨ ਸ੍ਵਾਰ ਪਹੂੰਚ੍ਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

ਏਕੈ ਬਾਨ ਮਾਰਿ ਹੀ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

Any horse-rider who came forward, she killed him with the arrow.

ਕਾਹੂ ਤੇ ਚਿਤ ਡਰਤ ਨ ਭਈ ॥

ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਲੈ ਪੁਰਵਾ ਕਹ ਗਈ ॥੭॥

She did not care far any body, took her husband and brought him home.(7)(1)

The woman in this charitar is also a loyal woman. Her husband would give her all he had looted. She had all the loot. Also the method of her assistance deserves some notice. She went to the place where her husband was held and on the pretence of gathering horse manure she got close enough to attack her husbands captors and release her husband.
