Does Gurbani say "Kill the Non-Sikhs"?

Recommended Posts

Some people might have a doubt on the meaning of the verse below, while some might misinterpret it to denounce Sikhism.

Please read its arth (from Nitnem Steek by Gyani Gurbachan Singh jee Khalsa Bhindranwale) below:

Singh the above does'nt allude to "kill the non-Sikhs" as per original post.

The second shabad has an interesting uthanka behind it regarding a Mughal commander from Lahore that went out to kill Guru Arjan. He died on the way and then Maharaj composed the shabad. The Faridkot Tika links the shabad with this incident but interprets the whole shabad in an esoteric way.

I was looking at it from the angle of "killing ones enemy(s). Some people say Guru Sahib would never have prayed for someones death.

Veer ji take a look at these shabads from Guru Arjan Dev Ji that do talk about protection from enimies and what happened with Sulhi Khan.

Also a lot of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji Banis like Chandi Di Vaar, Shastar Naam Mala, Ugardanti, Chandi Chirtars 1&2, Sri Bhaguti Astotar mention how kirpan cuts eniemies and other warrior material for war.

It is pretty clear from the above verse that it is talking about tyrants or messengers of tyrants. No decent human being should have a problem with it. It would be really surprising if anyone misinterprets the above verses, unlike the verses in the op.

Sulhi Khan died, before the Shabad was composed. So, Sri Satguru jee (Fifth Master) did not pray for his death. He died and Maharaaj prayed in gratitude that the enemy of the Gurughar had perished.

Yes but the inference of the OP is, "does gurmat call for the deaths of non-sikhs, labelled as a-sikh". This could equally apply to the enemies of the Sikhs as well. What does "dusht" mean?

I agree, Guru Sahib did not pray for his death. But Guru Sahib calls him  a dusht in the shabad.

If I remember it correctly both the Chibbar writers quote this verse in a context of the Khalsa having to destroy their enemies. Also followed by the Sagal malech karo ranghata

What does the word mallech mean here? The original meaning (from ancient Sanskrit texts) of this word can be translated as "barbarian", however it is possible that new meanings were attached to the word overtime.
