PANJ GRANTHI STEEK

Recommended Posts

panj granthi consist of sukhmani sahib, aasaa kee vaar, dakhni oankaar, sidh gost and baavan akhree. A lot of Singhs in puraatan times were nitnemi of these baanian, some still are, but not nearly as many.

a steek is a translation...so a panj granthi steek would be a translation of the panj granthi

if you wanna know the significance / history of dakhni oankaar listen to the katha of it done by gyani takhur singh on www.gurmatveechar.com , he can explain it alot better than me.

Angad,

With due note of the above, the 5 Granthi is commonly attributed to Bhai Mani Singh Shaheed and subsequently for many years came to form a ciriculum for studying Gurbani that has continued amongst many Taksals and Khandani Sikh Parivars (particularly amongst the Khatri Sikhs).

It's history is possibly linked with the fact that mass print media was not available and Bhai Sahib as an eldar within the community sought to collect those Banis which were deemed crucial for all Sikhs to have easy access to on a daily basis (rather like a Nitnem Gutka).

Today we see many Amrit Kirtan collections which are effectively seeking to do the same.
