Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Fateh

Essential reading for the purpose of human life.

MESSAGE FROM THE PATRON SANT NARANJAN SINGH JI
(As I understand it from a book that my father had)

The aim purpose or goal of human life is to be oneness with God or God relisation or to see the actual form of God. One should achieve this goal in this life itself.
There are 5 steps of God Relisation:

    1. Dharam Khand:
With the grace of almighty God, man realises that he should devote his life to God realisation and not waste is away in sins.
He should be up in the early hours of the morning at about 3 am and start with Nam Simran. At the start is should be 2.5 minutes and then can gradually be increased. This should be followed by the recitation of 5 banis namely:-
    1. Japji Sahib
    2. Jaap Sahib
    3. Savaiyes
    4. Benti Chaupai
    5. Anand Sahib
Out of his honest earnings he should take out one-tenth (deswand) for Guruji's work.
He who does not believe in deswand- to earn the money he would take to falsehood or speak falsehood.
Says the supersoul of Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Bhai Nandlalji "He is not faithful who does not take out his deswand"

    2. Gian Khand (region of Divine Knowledge)
As a person reaches this region he detaches himself from worldly sinful desires and his mind desires to understand divine matters. He gets joy and desires start disappearing slowly.

    3. Saram Khand (Region of Spiritual beauty/wisdom)
With divine knowledge man tries to understand the teachings of the Sri Guru Granth Sahibji and put them to practise. This elevates his soul, leading to purfication of min, intellect, wisdom.

    4. Karam Khand (Region of Divine Grace)
Here man seeks Divine grace and receives it and divine light appears in him. He is absorbed in God's love 24 hours of the day. His evil desires disappear and he is at peace with himself and is always in happiness.

    5. Sach Khand (Region of Truth)
In this region the subtle power, the formless Lord himself resides. Man gets absorbed in God and sees the peace giving pure white light of the Lord which is indescribable.
The light of thousand suns would be nothing before the brightness of this light and man's wanderings comes to an end and he is saved from the cycle of repeated births and deaths.
The process of awakening divine sight implies lokking inwards and leading a disciplied life. This is called breaking the wall of falsehood. It is coming to a state of complete inner stillness called meditation. As one progresses in this inner journey, he comes nearer and nearer to the Divine One.

i don't know about damdami but rara sahib is nirmala sampardha(lineage) coming from bhai dya singh ji time.

    check this out : http://www.rarasahib.com/images/sg.gif

Nirmalaie sampardha was intially started by 5 singhs who went to kansi but when they came back they trained bhai dya singh ji and bhai dharam singh ji..from that point- two sampardha with 24 upsampardha's were started by Bhai Dya Singh Ji and Bhai Dharam Singh Ji.

oh really , i thought taksal adapted white -wearing from sant baba sunder singh ji bhindranvaley time's not just recently...and they were vegetarians from nirmaley influence not hindu influence.

Author failed to mention it was nirmaley in help of singh sabha movement who implemented anand karaj ceremony.

Also, yes there has been few hindu influence in our sampardha's but to call vegeterainism an hindu influence is completely absurd...nirmaley has been always vegeterians since they were created 1. Bhai Dya Singh Ji Sampardha 2. Bhai Dharam Singh Sampardha... it's only few cases according to circumstances like baba sahib singh bedi who was a nirmala and a soldier that he hunted..again but we can't follow his foot steps... because for a bhramgyani at that stage... there is no paap or paun (sin or good deed) and we are not his stage...you will see sants in nirmala mandali may have hunted or eaten meat only in certain circumstances but their shish were never given an non veggie diet.

you see nihangs are called "Ladla Khalsa" by guru ji... but however its sad today how they ignored.. its entirely because its been geeting screwed over time to time by british then rss aand unfortunately sikhs within our panth... really hope nihangs flourish like flowers and spread their shastar vidiya around someday......

Also since nihangs been broken into fragments by british and our people thats why you see bunch of fragments not accepting hindu roots but being more freindly with hindu tradition so they take part in it...

However just because nihangs do accept hindu traditions that doesnt mean nihangs accept rss propaganda too...they are good blokes with skills.. but if hindu extermist try to screw the panth then they will raise the swords.. thats what they are given the swords.. thats they praise mirri-pirri sword...sword of khalsa... lots of nihangs got shaheed in 84.. that just describes it.. they certainly not there to divide the panth but it seems like it because mainstream sikhs are makin fun of em... ie. jhatka, bhang.. thats all their tradition...when someone talks about nihangs.. first mainstream sikhs has to say.. oh those crack-heads... gimme a break... its sad to see whats happening in the panth these days...

    THE SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE
    Bhakti Yoga

There are certain Do's and Dont's for the spiritual journey, called yam and Niyam. These are ten each in numbers as per details :

    Yam : - (X)

    1. Non-Violence :- Do not cause harm to anybody, through mind, body, intellect or speech. Pray from the core of your heart, "The glory of Name Divine is highest. Let all human beings be happy by the grace of God."

    2. Truthfulness :- Live truthful life and indulge not in hypocrisy.

    3. Theft :- Theft of body and mind is avoided. Theft of mind means when you do some bad act behind the curtain, i.e. in aloofness so as there is no witness to your act, like act of adulteration etc. To conceal other man's articles is theft of body.

    4. Brahmcharya :- Celibacy is an essential requirement for the spiritual journey. It is like fuel of the body, which must be preserved. Married persons should be faithful to each other observing moderation.

    5. Patience :-Do not feel agitated over trifles. Patience brings power- Saints must have patience in abundance.

    6. Forgiveness :- When you have the strength to harm somebody, but you forgive him and don't harm him, you are on the right path.

    7. Mercy :- Mercy is a must for meditation. Those who kill animals for palate, cannot imbibe mercy. You kill today and you will be killed tomorrow. That is the Divine law.

    8. Tender Heart :- Be of tender heart, and do not be stone-hearted or a hypocrite. Don't indulge in rebukes and slander. Always speak softly, politely and truthfully.

    9. Self-discipline :- Eat less and feel contented. Follow the dictum of the Guru :-

"Eat moderately, sleep less, show mercy and forgiveness and love your prime possession, the real self. (Guru Gobind Singh)

There are three kinds of food that we eat viz. pertaining to

    i) tamoguna (ii) rajasguna (iii) satoguna

'tamas' food, includes intake of meat, fish, wine eggs etc. This food brings laziness to the man. He is likely to turn away from God and his God-consciousness is diminished. In 'rajas' is included pertaining of spicy and rich food for the sake of palate only. Heavy and rich food leads to numerous diseases.' Eat a bit less than your requirement. 'Satoguna' food includes partaking of vegetables, milk, curd, butter and cereals etc. 10. It means purity of mind, purity of body, purity of speech, purity of clothes, and purity of thought. These are ten 'yam' principles

    THE TEN NIYAM (RULES)

    1. Penances and devotion :- Yoke yourself to the service of humanity. Service is of three kinds ie. pertaining to rajas guna, tamas guna and sats guna. The service of Guru is at the top of all the Penances.

    2. Charity :- Charity is also of three types - rajas, tamas and sats charity. In tamas, one gives away something in charity under duress and in anger and at inappropriate time which may result in sin. In rajas, one distributes alms to earn glorification. While in sats guna, one gives away in all humility with a faith in the fact that everything is gift of God. This kind of generosity is rewarded.

    3. Contentment :- There cannot be full satisfaction without contentment. Unless there is contentment, the mind writhing in desire wanders in wilderness.

    4. Theistic intellect means a staunch believer in Guru's teachings.

    5. Worship :- Worship of the Guru. It should not be external and ceremonial only, but with all the mind and soul accepting Guru as embodiment of God.

    6. Faith in the shabad of Guru. If you have faith in Gurbani, you will be rewarded. If you sit quietly with closed eyes, but you don't have in Gurbani, it is of no avail. Have full faith in Gurbani.

    7. Abide by teachings of Gurbani. Mould your life accordingly. Don't go against the tenets of Gurbani.

    8. Peaceful Mind :- Let anger not disturb your mind at all, even when provoked by somebody. Keep cool and have perseverance.

    9. Nitnem :- Keep regularity in you daily prayers, meditation and recitation of Gurbani.

    10. Brahm-hom means feeding the hungry Hom implies burning of 'I' and I-am-ness, effacing ego of every type. Inviting Saints and Gursikhs for partaking food is known as Brahm-hom.

These are two disciplines - Yam and Niyam and third is 'Asan'.

Asan :- Find out quite place, where there is no noise, and where one can sit comfortably without any disturbance. Make a seat (asan) for meditation and use this 'asan' daily for prayers and meditation.

    Self Percept (Atam Updesh)

Why are you so engrossed in worries? Why are you afraid of some one? Who may kill you? The soul is immortal; it neither dies nor takes birth.
The present is here and now, the past is irrecoverable and the future will be good. Don't fret over the past and don't be worried about the future. The present is going on.

Why do you cry? What did you lose? When you were born, what did you bring along, which has been lost? What did you produce which has been perished? It is here that you gained and it is here that you lose. The man comes to; and goes from world, empty handed.

What you own today was not yours yesterday and will not be yours tomorrow. It does not and will not belong to anyone. You consider it your own and rejoice. This happiness of possession leads you to utter grief.

Yours is this world. Start from where you feel to; stay where you desire and wind up where you want to. It has no beginning and no end. You don't fear anyone, but yourself. You are the fright and also the frightened.

Change is the truth of life. What you consider as death is life in reality. In a moment a multi-millionaire is turned pauper. Give up the feeling of possession, great & the mean; differentiation of friend & foe. Then all is yours and you for everyone. Your corporeal being is a product of air, water, fire ,sky and earth and it merges into the same leaving behind neither blood nor bones. Still yours existence remains the same. Then ponder over what you are.

Wake up! and become the eternal sons of the Almighty. You are the great and unique manifestation of Nature's power. All the divine powers are possessed by you, like a tree hidden in the seed.

In fact you don't fear anybody; you don't have any worry, suspicion, pain or grief. You are His dear ones. Surrender yourself completely to Him.

Always, remember the "Waheguru" (God) to achieve salvation. Let your life be guided by the saying "Whatever God wills, is good". Be content with the will of God. Remember Him both in pleasure & pain.

SAadmin got a reaction from Kaur10 in Bhai Gurmukh Singh Aurdeesa dedication towards his murshad!!
Here is breif sketch of Bhai Gurmukh Singh's Life:

The Life of Gurmukh Singh Aurdeesa

Gurmukh Singh Aurdeesa, was by birth a Hindu and born into a poor Hindu family. Coming from a poor family he was made at an early age to leave home in search of work and moved around before settling down in Calcutta.

Due to good deeds in his past lives Gurmukh Singh would visit various Gurdwara Sahibs and with utmost devotion and love do Seva in the Langar of washing the dirty pots and pans. It was with such good Karm that Gurmukh Singh found Sangat of many famous sadhus’s and saints. It was this same good Karm that brought Gurmukh Singh into the sangat where he heard the glorious praises of Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji recited by such holy Sikh Saints as those of Sant Baba Ajaib Singh Ji, and learned of Gurmat and the Gurmat way from the spiritually uplifting dharna Kirtan and Katha of Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji (Rara Sahib).

The darshan and sangat of such great Sikh Mahpursh (Saints) led, Gurmukh Singh’s mind to be filled with Gurmat and Gursikhi thoughts. Even while being Hindu, Gurmukh Singh started to keep his Kes (hair) and started to lead a life in accordance with Gurmat.

Everyday after spending a laborious day at work in the factory Gurmukh Singh would come and devote whatever time he had, to the service of the Sangat at the Gurdwara Sahib. Only after spending countless hours lovingly washing and cleaning dirty dishes, in the service of the holy Sangat of the Guru would Gurmukh Singh feel content and at peace and feel all his desires fulfilled. Such satisfaction is told of in Sri Rahiraas Sahib (evening prayer),

Jin Har Sevaiya Tin Mukh Paiya ||
Those who serve You find peace.

Upon the request of Sangat, Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa and jatha visited Calcutta. On arrival Sri Akhand Paht Sahib paths where started at Gurdwara Sahib Jugat Sudaar. Kirtan and Katha darbaars where also organized and done on behalf of the Jatha.

During Katha, vadiyaartis (students) would sit and have Sri Pothi Sahibs open and follow along as Mahpursh did Katha. Listening to the Katha of Mahpursh and seeing the love and devotion all the students had for Gurbani, topped it off for Gurmukh Singh and his mind now wanted nothing more but to learn more about Gurbani and Gurmat and he craved for nothing more but to take Amrit and join the Khalsa fold.

When the seed of the karma of past actions sprouted, I met the Lord; He is both the Enjoyer and the Renunciate.
My darkness was dispelled when I met the Lord. O Nanak, after being asleep for countless incarnations, I have awakened.

    (Raag Gauree, Ang 204)

Gurmukh Singh wanting to do darshan of Mahpursh (Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa) went up to Mahpursh when they where not holding a diwan and with folded hands went to bow his head at the feet of Mahpursh, when Mahpursh stopped him and said,

“Hey Premia (Lover of the Guru) !! You should only bow your head to Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Instead you should meet me with folded hands and say, VAHEGURU JE KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JE KE FATEH !”

Some nearby Singh’s who where friends of Gurmukh Singh and knew of his hearts desires then said out loud,

“Mahpurkho, this premi’s from a Hindu family, but today after hearing your Katha his heart has been set to join with you and the Jatha and learn more about Gurmat and be trained in reading of Gurbani. He does tremendous amounts of Seva and the sangat here loves him dearly.”

    Sant Mahpursh then replied,
"First this premi should take Amrit and be on the path of the Guru. Then he must abide by the conditions set for all Singhs who wish to be part of the Jatha. If he is willing then he can come and be trained in Gurmat.”

Hearing this Gurmukh Singh was extremely pleased with being able to take Amrit and join the Guru’s Fauj (army), and have the privilege to learn Gurmat vidyia from the Jatha. In the following days an Amrit Sinchaar was organized and Gurmukh Singh took Amrit from the punj pyarai (five beloved) who then changed and kept his name as Gurmukh Singh.

That evening when Gurmukh Singh met with Mahpursh Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji, Mahpursh called for Giani Pritam Singh Ji and told them,

"This premi (Gurmukh Singh) was born into a Hindu family, but today he has taken Amrit from the Punj Pyarai who have bestowed upon him the name of Gurmukh Singh. He has a deep interest in learning Sikhiya from the Jatha. Let it be known that he is now with the Jatha. Not only is he a gurmukh but that is also his name.”

Baba Lohara Singh Ji was also sitting close by, and mahpursh called to them and instructed them as such,
“Lohara Singh Ji, this Singh has studied in a Hindu school and can read and understand Hindi. He can also read Gurmukhi. Sit with him and help him get started on his schooling in Gurbani."

Then on behalf of Baba Loharaa Singh Ji, Bhai Kartaar Singh Ji "premi" & Bhai Kishan Singh Ji, Gurmukh Singh learned the proper ucharan of Gurbani and in no time became an Akhand Pathi, and quickly memorized his Nitnem and other banian.

Although many students would further there gyian in such areas as Katha or Kirtan, Gurmukh Singh instead preferred to do Seva in the Langar where he would prepare the dough, start the fires, prepare roti, wash the dirty dishes, distribute the langar alongside any other duties that needed doing. However no matter what task Gurmukh Singh took on, he did it with full enthusiasm and with great amounts of devotion and love, while always remaining humble.

Whenever Mahpursh where physically ill or tired Gurmukh Singh would help take care of them. In the summer times, Gurmukh Singh would take on the Seva of fanning sangat and spent much time in the Seva of Mahpursh.

During Amrit Vela, Gurmukh Singh would recite Sri Sukhmani Sahib for the older Singhs, and for the Singhs who where preparing Langar. Regardless of whatever else was going on, Gurmukh Singh would always complete his Nitnem and never tire or get sloppy while doing Seva.

No matter what the situation Gurmukh would never act lazy and Mahpursh respected and held Gurmukh Singh in high esteem for the amount of Simran, & Seva that he did and with the love and respect he would show to all those around him while doing it.

I study that as spiritual development, just as baby is not taught phd stuff right away just like that spirituality is bit like that, everything in stages- above discourse should be look at intial steps to draw seeker in then provide updesh from gurbani as you posted to transcend  them. Every dharam has four stages- shariat, tariqat, marfat, hakikat, contextualization and conceptualization is key. See it as stage there are no conflicts there.
Gian of gurbani is *NOT*  the missionary stuff teaches about being good person, have good morals and rest of simplistic way its about knowning who you are - our jot saroop - mool saroop- jot saroop- advai purkh- non dual aware being. So that final stages takes bit of time for many seekers. Hence, you see intial bhagti sharda updesh like that of drawing seekers in slowly in stages- bhagti, shabad and then finally gyan (its not standard for everyone as everyone is at different stage but its bit of framework older sikh spiritual orders are given to have some structure).

    1. He may have asked to write it just how bhai mani singh ji wrote manuscript of dasam granth as Sri guru gobind singh ji narrated it, its a very nitty small semantic point as what matter Guru maharaj approved it and put a seal on it on manuscript.
    2. At hazoor sahib, sri guru granth sahib ji is slight higher placed on palki compare to sri dasam granth sahib ji
    3. Guruship status is further fragmented into given to multi aspect divine scriptural/ multi aspect saint/sipahi - saint - sri guru granth sahib , soldier- sipahi - sri dasam granth sahib. I beleive there is passage from sarbloh granth talking about this.
    4. Off course he did thats not the reason he kept it because one is word of Guru and other one isn't. I encourage you to read jaap sahib, akaal ustat and proof they are not word of Guru.

Sadh jana ki, seva lage ||

    Char padarth are known as:

    1. Dharam - Discipline. Understanding of his or her duties i.e virtues(Ethics)
    2. Arath - Assets. he or she has no shortage of money, precious metals, pearls etc & has obtained the desired wealth.
    3. Kaam - Desire. His or her all desired gets fulfilled from marriage to children.
    4. Moksh - Liberation. He or she attains emancipation.

After reading the above pankti it just seems like marg of sadh jana ki seva is also parvan in Sikhi. Now main question comes down to, what is context of seva of sadh jana in this above pankiti? is it simply doing seva of singular sadh? or is it doing seva of everyone seeing jot of sadh/murshid in everyone? or above pankiti means seva of sadh sangat/sat sangat.

    Please discuss..!

Grand Conversation between twins inside the womb: Baby 1: And you, you believe in life after birth? Baby 2: Absolutely. It’s obvious that life after birth exist. We are here to become stronger and to get ready for Whatever awaits us next. Baby 1: This is absurd. There is nothing after birth! What would life look like outside the womb? Baby 2: Well, there are many stories about the other side. I’ve heard there is a blaze of light there, an intense and profound feeling of joy with deep emotions, thousands of things to live for… For example, I’ve heard that we’ll eat with our mouth, there. Baby 1: That's silly. We have an umbilical cord and that is how we eat. Everyone knows that we don’t use our mouth to eat! And, on the top of it, no one has ever come back from the other world… Those stories are all coming from naïve people. Life just ends at birth. Period. That’s the way it is and we must accept it. Baby 2: Alright, then allow me to think differently. That's for sure, I have no idea what life after birth looks like, and I can’t prove anything to you. But I like to believe, that in the next world, we’ll be able to see our mother and that she will take care of us. Baby 1: “Mother”? You mean that you believe in ‘Mother’? Oh! So where is she? Baby 2: Everywhere, don’t you see it! She is everywhere, all around us. We are part of her and it's thanks to her that we are living right now. Without her, we wouldn’t be here. Baby 1: This is ridiculous! I’ve never seen any mother so it’s obvious that she doesn’t exist. Baby 2: I don’t agree, that’s your way of seeing things. Because sometimes when everything quiets down a little bit, we can hear her sing. We can feel her hugging our world. I’m pretty sure that our life will start after birth. Read it a second time by changing some words.... Change the word BIRTH to DEATH WOMB to WORLD MOTHER to GOD... you will find a mystery unveiling... :D

~ Pearls of Truth by nirmala sant ~

source: my old hard drive archives

God, the Truth Eternal, is the Creator of the universe. He alone is the Supreme Master and we should have absolute faith in Him. The man who believes in Him overcomes all temptations, and attains the knowledge that is complete and perfect and brings peace, contentment and happiness

This world is a sea of misery only for those who know not his ways. For them it is like an ocean which cannot be crossed. But for those who have attained salvation through knowledge and with His grace, this world is God's very own manifestation

One who gets to know himself and conquers the vain desires of his heart, shall come to know and realize his true being and shall have all the material resources of this world at his command.

I consider that man to be most worthy of my love and gratitude who has love for the place where my Master dwelt.

If you wish the world to obey you, get to know yourself and conquer all physical and material urges arising within you. What you see around you is superficial knowledge. It is your spiritual being which is true. When you overcome your worldly desires, you can be master of the situation

Man finds it difficult to control his baser instincts. By prayer alone it is possible. Through God's grace one can make an effort to meditate on His name

Man, know thyself! Listen to your inner voice. Your 'self' is not your physical being, not the intellect; neither the body nor its organs. Your true being is the state of realization of your duty. Once you know what it is then your physical being shall accept your true and nobler self as its guide. Then your real and true being shall be in control. The body, mind and intellect will be at your command. They shall function in unison so as to bring you happiness. After this everything shall be smooth and pleasant.

Search for God in the forests and up in the mountains is futile, for He lives with and within you. Know yourself if you want to know God.

It is the sense of awareness that prompts and enables you to complete the task you take in hand. Don't forget that when you do something wrong, it is done after due deliberation.

There is one God. Knowledge about God and His creation cannot be compared with anything else. God is also the name of the Knowledge Supreme. True comprehension of God is possible only when you have realised the significance of the knowledge that is Supreme.

God, in His mercy alleviates the miseries of His children in this world. With grace alone one can attain worldly riches and comforts. It is man's DHARMA to pray to Him and to meditate on His Holy Name. This is possible only through God's grace and Guru's blessings. O' man, this is what you are supposed to do. Leave everything to Him after doing your duty.

Elevation, through self-purification, for man is possible only when he has full faith in Guru. This is the way man can fulfill his ambition.

There is no difference between Guru and God. Guru is the embodiment of all pervading knowledge. Guru has to be perfect for he comprehends and dispenses all knowledge. He knows, understands and realizes the existence and operation of the laws of the universe as devised and ordained by God. There is only one God. There cannot be two. He alone dwells in the hearts of all. The moment true wisdom dawns on you, derive and conclude only one meaning that there is only one God and He knows no limits, neither is He bound by any limit and He always resides in every heart.

Guru is the true teacher. His teachings are universal and eternal. He ignores the sins of those who come to be blessed and forgives them. He rescues them of their troubles. I know it is my Guru who forgives a sinner and elevates the individual to a position where he gains his self-respect, sense of dignity and piety that Guru wants every individual to imbibe.

The way we are blessed by our true master, the day we come to enjoy the Guru's grace we shall divest ourselves of all our baser instincts like jealousy and enemity. We shall start feeling the presence of God in all His creatures. Our Guru alone can elevate us to this status. I have the fullest faith in my Guru and I shall like you also to do the same.

All that we see is not real. All that appears to be real is bound to change. Think of what is happening within you. Your thoughts keep on changing but He is and always remains what He is. He is the truth. When you feel convinced and your intellect perceives it, you shall be part of that Immortal Truth. Truth is indivisible, so is knowledge and so is the bliss of the Joy Eternal.

God within you is watching and weighing every act of yours. As long as your ego rules your thinking, you shall remain ignorant of the presence of the almighty with you.

Lust for possessing worldly goods is like an ember that burns the good in you. The two together keep you away from true knowledge, which helps you realize the existence of God. Meditation on His name is the only remedy. But you will be able to meditate only if you realize what truth is and you concentrate fully on His name with a heart that is pure. Dishonesty, falsehood cannot co-exist with truth. The moment you have taken to truth, the two shall stand abandoned.

One who has attained through God's grace, the knowledge perfect, which is true and eternal, has been set free of the cycle of birth and death. In accordance with the law of the universe, the elements get absorbed in the cosmos and the light is always a part of the Light Eternal. That is why Guru Nanak said that giving credence to the process of life and death is only betrayal of ignorance on the part of the learned. If you cannot discriminate falsehood from the truth or distinguish mortal from indestructible then you have not been able to attain the state of mind someone in possession of true knowledge has.

None, till this day, has been able to attain salvation, with the help of physical senses like: speech, contact, form, enjoying the faculties of hearing and seeing and smelling. Sheikh Farid says that man remains strangulated by five temptations: lust, greed, anger, sex and ego. Man can free himself of these only with the grace of God by surrendering himself before His will.

I wont write much on this topic, but this line above has to be deeply contemplated and felt in quite mind and meditation. There is so much truth in above that will turn your life of efforts, striving striving, maintaining certain stage upside down in a good way and bring transformation, depending how much you allow it, it can penetrate deeper and bring out radical shift in identity in your life. All i can say be receptive and open, be in spontaneous quiet meditation without any effort or agenda. Any extra effort which is made has some backing of ego, has some imprints of ego, this subtlety can be understood in deep meditation where one feels current to the point ones effort seem like small speck or dust in inherent infinite eternal ocean of awareness happening now, eternally present.

One doesn't pay for Sins done through mind/thoughts(foorna). However, every effort must be made to subdue those thoughts of bad doing because one day sooner or late, mind will action that desire which had resided in the mind. As soon there is action, there is good or bad karam based on those actions.

SAadmin got a reaction from harsharan000 in The Five Deadly Sins
taken from sikh student member in england.

    The Five Deadly Sins

In Sikhism there are 5 sins which are deadly. They are considered deadly because the prevent you from living a truthful life and getting closer to God. It is therefore in our best interest to help get as far away from these sinful states of mind, as possible.

    The five deadly sins are:
    • Kam Lust
    • Krodh Anger
    • Moh Attachment
    • Lobh Greed
    • Hankar Pride

    Kam –- Lust

The biggest problem with lust is that people find it hard to understand. Before we start. let me differentiate between love and lust. There is a thin line between the two. One is a wonderful state of mind that can bring you closer to God and one is a seemingly-wonderful state of mind that will put distance between you and God.

Love is great, as a Sikh you are meant to love everybody to the best of your ability this is because God resides in everybody (including animals); so by loving everybody you love God.

In the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Maharaaj there is a lot of imagery whereby you are the wife and God is the husband. By total dedication to your partner will you be able to realise him.

“If she effaces her ego, then she merges in her spouse.”
    Rag Suhi Ashtpadian 1st Guru.

In Sikhism loving relationships are where you help each other to get closer to God.

“O, Friends! Give me your blessing so that I may attain union with my master.”
Kirtain Sohila, 1st Guru Verse 3

So do not fear from loving people, it can only bring you benefits.
However you must differentiate between love and lust. Lust can take over your mind, and get you into sticky situations. If you ask most rapists why they committed the crime, they will often say “I couldn’t help it, I couldn’t control myself” Make sure that lust does not overcome you and get you into a sinful state which will be hard to get out of. By lust I mean carnal sexual desires . The desires that do not involve loving etc... One must be careful not to step over the line.

“Oh lust, thou landest the mortal in hell and makes him wander as many species”
    Gauri 9th Guru

    Krodh –- Anger

Anger is a sick state of mind. Like lust it can take over your mind and get you into sticky situations.
One might ask, “Well what about the 10th Guru and the early Sikhs, look at all those people that they angrily killed on the battlefield..” I tell you this, the true members of the Khalsa killed nobody out of anger only out of love. You see it is fear that leads to anger, the Khalsa fears nobody but God, and therefore they have no anger.
One will often have to stand up for oneself in one sense or another. When you do, make sure it is not out of anger, but make sure it is because you have to fight for Justice.
If you look at all those martial arts movies, you see the Buddhist kick everybody’s head in. He does not do it with anger, he is completely at peace with everybody (and himself). When he fights he does not fight with anger in his heart, but purity.
When you have to fight, ensure God’s name is residing in you and fight with all your heart, do not lose the battle before you start by giving your heart up to anger.

    Moh –- Attachment

Moh is attachment to worldly goods or Mammon (known as Maya in Punjabi). One must be careful not to get caught up in chasing after money or material goods. Sikhism is not like other religions where it asks you to drop everything and become a hermit with no clothes or money. Sikhism encourages a household life (a ‘Ghristi Jivan’). Ultimately everything good that you have got is through God’s grace, enjoy it and be grateful. However you must not get so caught up in living your materialistic lives that you forget the Ultimate Objective – God.

    Lobh –- Greed

Greed, one must not get caught up in gathering worldly things. You must be able to at the snap of a finger, renounce everything and follow the Lord should the call come.

    Hankar –- Pride

This in my opinion is the worst sin of all 5. This is where your ego gets in the way of God. If you are anything like me, then whenever you do something good, you immediately think good of yourself. This essentially is a load of rubbish. The only reason something good has happened to you, is because God had graced you, it is through no cause of your own. If anything bad happens to you it is your fault, then why do we blame God?
Until we can realise that there is something greater than us, then we will not be able to advance. Pride or your Ego is the worst of the sins, renounce it you are nothing compared to the Lord.

“If a man destroys his ego and by the Guru’s grace receives the Lords love, then he attains Supreme status”
    Bilaval Mahalla 4th Guru Ashtpada

“The Vedas proclaim aloud that the Reverend Lord likes no pride.”
    Mohalla 3rd Guru

    Conclusion

It all sounds very harsh. According to what I’ve written above, I’m definitely far from God and am going to be condemned to thousands of rebirths. However God is all loving and all forgiving. If you do do something wrong, then ask for his forgiveness and I promise that he will forgive you. Every-day we commit hundreds of sins, God is all loving and will forgive them all. Just repeat his name with all your mind, body and soul.

“If your hands, feet are dirty you clean them with water.
If your clothes are dirtied with Urine, you use soap.
If your mind is filled with sins, colour it with the Name of God.”
    Japji Sahib 1st Guru.

Guys I have discovered something recently which has cleared all my doubts regarding diversity of techniques, basically don't look it as different techniques or be confused about it but look at it rather as different techniques at different stages towards vahiguroo-atma-paratma based on each individual state of mind. Please see read the post below- especially attachment from bhannu parkash by sant jagjit singh ji harkhowal:

According to traditional gurmat, there are three types of students as such- intial updesh in Gurbani is addressed to three types of students where gurbani updesh is given(via hakumnama, mahapursh-sadh sangat etc) accordingly to based on student state of mind, based on student depth. There are ways to finding your state of mind/clear doubts one has- one of most recommended way- one is being in sadh sangat (soceity of saints) which gurbani emphasizes over and over again because one may not see their road blocks but in sadh sangat- soceity of saints those road blocks- doubts/sansa could be cleared and 2nd it gives one reality check of ego all the time being in sadh sangat as mere mortals can really fall a trap of ego.

Gurbani is agam agad bodh, its fully connected with our human consciousness, it talks to individual in many ways- some time outright slap via hakumnama, sometime through ishara/very subtle way via hakumnama/mahapursh katha/updesh..so at the end, its the student duty to decipher updesh from gurbani given to them blunt or sutble..sadh sangat or in sangat of mahapursh is also recommended as per gurbani, so they can further guide the student or alternatively, student can also honestly self reflect and grade themselves.

    Bhai Gurdas Ji talks about:

    Vaar 7 - Pauri 3 (Tin di ginati-gurmukh)

Brahama Bisanu Mahesu trai bk ved gun gian langhae.
Bhut bhavikhahu varatamanu adi madhi jini anti sidhae.
Man bach karam ikatr kari jamman maran jivan jini de.
Adhi biadhi upddhi sadhi surag mirat pdtal nivae.
Utamu madham nich sadhi balak joban biradhi jinae.
Ira pingula sukhamand trikuti langhi tribeni nhae.
    Gurmukhi ika mani iku dhiae.

Also Sant Maharaj Baba Isher Singh Ji Rara sahib wale along with damdami taksal jathedars also talks about three types of student:

source: Ishvar Amalok Lal (personal dairy of sant isher singh ji rara sahib and also see-japji sahib audio katha by gyani thakur singh ji)

    1. Kanishtt Bhajneek (ਕਨਿਸ਼ਟ ਭਜਨੀਕ) - Those who cannot concentrate their minds during paath or meditation are called Kanishtt (Low-level). Still, they are much better than those who do not take any initative at all.
    2. Maddham Bhajneek (ਮੱਧਮ ਭਜਨੀਕ) - They try to control their minds during worship. Sometimes they are successful at it.
    3. Uttam Bhajneek (ਉੱਤਮ ਭਜਨੀਕ) - Their minds settles down well during meditation/worship. They are able to find peace.

In layman terms consider kanisth student as - beginner, madham jaigaso- intermediate and utam jaigaso- advanced.

As there are three types of students, and there are various updesh in gurbani addressed to three types of students, when it comes naam simran, there are also similar classification. Please see-attached
