Its not that simplistic bro. They dont beleive in God in abhramic sense as they beleive in Absolute non dual reality/Non dual God reality without abhramic notions. See- Buddhist sutra including heart sutra- gate gate for more info, for example- form(sargun) is empitness(nirgun), empitness(nirgun) is form(sargun). They also have buddhisatva - realized awakened beings equivalent to bhramgyanis, and also beleive in  buddhist gods -sargun devotion spread out in various different school of thoughts/sects within Buddhism.

    AJAPA JAAP

In terms of a layman AJAPA JAAP is the spiritual condition of a person when the Simran goes on an auto pilot mode in your Surat and then in Hirdey and so on as explained below. It means that Simran becomes a round the clock thing inside you, Simran doesn't stop at any moment, it carries on and such a condition comes with Gurkirpa and after a lot of Bhagti Kamai or can also be attained with the Kirpa of a Puran Braham Gyani. The normal sequence is as follows:

    1. Jaap with Tounge ? Rasna ? this happens in Dharam Khand

    2. Jaap with the breathing ? with Swaas ? this happens in Gyan Khand and Saram Khand

    3. Then Naam goes into your mind ? Surat, in your thinking, then it becomes Simran from Jaap ? this is a very good stage ? this happens in Saram Khand and Karam Khand ? some people go into Smadhi at this stage.

    4. The next stage is when Simran goes into Hirdey ? this one is even much higher stage when Naam goes into Hirdey ? this is where it goes on an automatic mode, this is where the real bhagti starts, one goes into Smadhi and Sun Smadhi? Karam Khand - this is when you go into Smadhi and the real bhagti starts, your bhagti account is opened in the Dargah.

    5. The next stage is when Simran travels to the Nabhi, when Nabhi Kamal blossoms ? Karam Khand

    6. The next Stage is when Simran goes into Kundlini ? Mooladhaar Chakkar and spine ? Karam Khand

    7. The next stage is when Simran travels through the spine to the brain, and back to Surat where it completes the cycle. This is what the real Mala of Naam is. When this happens then the Gyan Netter and Dassam Duaar opens and you form a permanent connection with Akal Purakh, you start to get divine knowledge ? Braham Gyan. This happens in Sach Khand. Enjoyment ? Anand in Smadhi and Sun Smadhi is beyond description. That is why the Maha Purakhs go into very deep meditation some time for days together. You experience a lot of things during your Smadhi and Sun madhi, see a lot of things, meet a lot of Sants, Gurus, see Param Jyot, conversation with the Sants and Akal Purakh and what not, it is beyond description what happens and through what you go when you go into deep meditation. This is the stage when all the doors ? Bajjar Kapaat are opened and there is a continuous flow of Amrit, body is always full of Amrit.

    8. The Simran in Smadhi and Sun Smadhi continues until NIRGUN AND SARGUN becomes one, at this point Simran goes into rom-rom ? every bit of your body does Naam Simran, your Suksham Dehi becomes as pure as gold, your entire body is filled with Naam Amrit all the time. These stages are beyond description. One lives in Puran Parkash all the time and listens to Kirtan all the time. It is just incredible experience. This is when one is directed by the Almighty to serve the Sangat. And this is what your target should be when you have been prompted to move up on Bhagti.

    9. Following is the benefit sequence:

Jaap with Rasna 1000 times = Jaap in Swaas one time
Jaap in Swaas 1000 times = Simran in Surat one time
Simran in Surat 1000 times = Simran in Hirdey or elsewhere one time

So Simran in Hirdey and beyond is the most rewarding one. Again some people might think we are getting into counting the benefit, and it is correct to say that we should not indulge in counting, but it is just a way to make the Sangat understand that which way and where Simran will bring what kind of rewards. The 1000 numbers signify that the rewards of Simran in Hirdey are much higher than doing Jaap with Rasna. if you do Jaap with Rasna your Rasna will become pavitter - pious, by doing jaap in along breathing - swass your swass will become pious - pavitter, by doing Simran in mind-Surat-Chit- mind will become pious - pavitter, and that is what you need to do to make your mind pious - pavitter, that is how you will have control on your mind and you will be able to rise above Panj Doots - KAAM, KRODH, LOBH, MOH, AHANKAAR AND ALSO ASA, TRISHNA, MANSHA, NINDYA, CHUGLI, BAKHILI, RAJ, JOBAN, DHAN, MAAL, ROOP, RAS, GANDH, THESE THUGS ? MENTAL SICKNESSES, and when Simran goes in to Hirdey, it will start to absorb all the vital qualities of Akal Purakh and will become a Puran Sant Hirda, and will achieve JIVAN MUKTI - PARAM PADVI-BRAHAM GYAN . The true definition of a Sant is not by wearing a chola ? outside dress and outside rituals, it is the Hirda that becomes Puran Sachyara ? completely truthful and that - HIRDA IS SANT and when the Naam Rattan goes into Hirdey -so please try to understand it and put it into your daily lives to get Naam Rattan planted in your Hirdey - then naam goes to Nabhi and spine and so on, and again it happens by itself and with Gurkirpa and not by our own efforts, it will happen only under Hukam. Again highest AMRIT IS NAAM, so please try to make your life cleaner, rise above Panj Doots, kill your desires and don't
indulge in Nindya, rise above all the doubtsfollow the Braham Gyan of bani in your daily lives, become a Puran Sachyara ? completely truthful person, serve the truth and achieve your goal of Jivan Mukti.

They do but they do so...so that their disciples and jaigaso(students)/sangat overall, don't go astray by copying them. Overall, they don't need to. They are already merged with bhram, there is no dualism left or difference between them and vahiguroo.

Please see below for more information on their bhramgyani state and dual consciousness:

This is must listen. Please listen to audio by sant jagjit singh ji harkhowale regarding characteristics of Jevan Mukht and Bedah Mukht. Basically people who cannot understand punjabi...i will try to explain as much my buddhi can:

http://www.gurmatveechar.com/audios/Katha/02_Present_Day_Katha/Baba_Jagjit_Singh_%28Harkhowal_wale%29/Man_Budh_Atam/08--Baba.Jagjit.Singh.%28Harkhowal.wale%29--Aatma.Ki.Hai.mp3 (From 80.55 minutes until end)

Jevan Mukht- A person who is jevan mukht stays in sehaj avastha, have double consciousnesses, can engage in worldly duties because their sattvic mind(satoguni mind) is still there to do parchar/spread love/kindness to this world, rajo and tamogun portion of mind its destroyed.

Bedah Mukht- A person who is bedah mukht can only survive days, they are in nirvkalap samadhi(non transcendental meditative state), they have totally negate their mind (made of rajo, tamo, sato), antish karan, there is no coming back, they cannot do kriya on their own, their disciples try to feed them just to keep them alive to see them in smadhi.

Sant Hari Singh Ji Randhawale said in divan, he came across with such one person of bedah mukht avastha who was at bedah muhkht avastha at haridvar, there were lines of people who were awaiting to do their darshan.

People who don't beleive in great sakhiya baba deep singh ji cutting their head and fighting or bhai mani singh shaheedi should research more on bedah mukht avastha before getting stuck in web of sansas(doubts).

The main sevant of India from political angle, Bibi Indira Ji,

I am expressing my thoughts which will reach your deaf ears. My voice will reach to you expressing the discriminations against the Sikhs, which have injured their feelings. It may let your deaf ears feel, what type of language has been used. But in order to remove your deafness I want to express myself in this letter. Read it carefully.

The enquiry of the death of Lala Jagat Narain, who was connected with the Hindus was completed within three days, the same may be proved from the warrants of my arrest, but the enquiry of the muder of the Guru of the Sikhs, the destruction of wealth of the Sikhs collected in the form of buses and the plunder of the Sikh wealth of three lakh at Chando Kalan was stopped with a writ of a government offical because that enquiry was in the hands of a sikh judge, while my case was registered with a Hindu Juge. This is an example of your deafness, because no Sikh had objected why my enquiry was entrusted to a Hindu Judge.

The dead body of Lala Jagat Narian who was connected with the majority Hindu community was handed over to ramesh after post-mortem. But the dead bodies of about one and half a dozen sikhs at Mehta Chowk in police firing were never handed over to their relatives . This is clear example of discriminations.

None of the Hindus have gone to jail for Hindi Suba, none has courted arrest for renaming a train after the name of a Hindu temple. No one has ever gone to jail for getting the status of a sacred city for some Hindu Railway station. None of the Hindus have made any sacrifice for the preservation of a Hindu symbol. After indepedence they got everything that suited their religion.

But contrary to this, after indepedence more than one lakh of Sikhs have courted arests and a large number of them has been martyred for punjabi speaking state, for installing a transmitter in Golden Temple, for a status of a distinct nation, for getting the status of a sacred city of Amritsar and for getting the right to adorn the Sikh Symbols. Even then your deaf ears have not heard anything.

Sikhs have already faced the cruelty of the rulers with peace, but you should know that when the patience is exhausted the Sikhs have resorted to the armaments according to the advice of Siri Guru Gobind Singh-

When all the means of peaceful solution are exhausted
It is just to resort to arms (Zafar Nama) (Guru Gobind Singh letter to Auranzeb)

But we have still no programme to resort to arms, but if the injustice with the Sikhs continues likes this under the intoxication of chair(state of power) it will not be tolerated for many years or months, because our pateince has exhausted as we have been observing the peaceful means since long. While asking the government to accede to our demands we have been propagating that a Hindu should be perfect in his religious symbols ie he should keep a tuft of hair unshorn on his head, should have a stick in his hand, should wear Dhoti, should wear a sacred thread, should have 12 saffron marks(on head, chin, shoulders, cervix, palate etc). He should read Geeta and worship shiv ling. He should go to temple and ring the holy bells, and should not smoke tobacco. We think such a Hindu as our brother. A Muslim should be perfect in his religion and Sikh should be a perfect Sikh. That is what we preach. How far is it true to term such a person as a terrrorist?

Under the spell of false prestige of state power, many rulers have tried to finish the Sikhs and there is no sign of them now. If you continue your attrocties and tyranny I am afraid, you will meet the same end because power and wealth never remain permanently with anybody. Our Holy scriptures say:

The praise of wealth... does not compare God.
At long last people like the Ravan went barefoot

Putting off clothes of Sikh Girls and asking their father to have sex with them, to put tobacco in the mouth of a Sikh and spitting in his mouth, making a wound in the thigh and putting salt into the wound, putting the houses of the Sikhs on fire, making false cases on SIkh Girls, arresting the SIkh students, killing them in false encounters, and protecting the murderes of Siri Guru Granth Sahib, the chief minister, S.P.D.R Bhatti Ludhiana, D.I.G Mangat of Patiala and their companions are the glaring examples of deafness. Everything is told her in brief.

Let the time come I ll will tell in detial the discrimination meted out to the Sikhs.

SAadmin got a reaction from Mehar in ~Tamo, Rajo and Satto Gunn~
One day, three Sikhs came to see Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Kartarpur. Their names were Rama, Didi and Saigal. They sat silently for some time and then one of them asked Guru Ji the following question.

What is the difference between Tamo gunn, Rajo gunn, Satto gunn and Bhagti marag?

A Sikh is one who seeks to learn, and Guru Ji teaches such a person the proper way: Not to talk bad about others and not to listen to gossip about others. How difficult is this ? Spend time not in fruitless deeds such as stealing etc. Stay away from the influence of bad people. The mind should not be allowed to stray towards the path of evil deeds. These activities come under Tamo gunn. If one meets a puran purash ( a knower of tat or truth), who is one in crores (millions), listen to his teachings. Listen and speak only the greatness of Waheguru. Speak not lies with the tongue ( a very difficult form of tapasya). In one's praises of God, consider God as present himself. In the flower is present its fragrance, but it is invisible to the naked eye.

Perform sewa or service; donate to charity or do other charitable deeds. These are hands and legs of tapasya and are called Rajsee tapasya.

    What is Satto tapasya?

Satto tapasya is when a person listens to Gurbani without signs of inattentiveness, that is, in one-pointed concentration, and also performs good deeds. The mind is always restless and it inherently tries to stray. God has made it such. The Gutka (prayer book) is always in the hand but the mind keeps wandering; it goes wherever it pleases. Guru Ji says that, when you realize that the mind has strayed away and the Gutka has been left behind in the hand, then, endeavor to lead it (the mind) back to Gurbani. The mind is illiterate. Do not talk about knowledge acquired from a university or college. True knowledge or Brahmgyan has to be gained from Gurbani. When one is aware that the mind has strayed away, catch it, bring it back and make it concentrate again, and again. It will eventually get tired of running here and there and will stay attached to Gurbani. Then this is the moment of the beginning of the end to the cycle of births and deaths.

This bachan (order) canot be bought or exchanged for pearls and gems in the bazaar. Vairaag and Naam Abhiyas are two wings which are used to fly to the kingdom of God. We tend to regard the physical body as ours, but no ! Our real form is 'Nij saroop', which is inside; it is separated by a veil of falsehood.

Kivv sachiara kivv kooraae tutaae paal ||
How can this wall of falsehood be broken?
(Sri Guru Granth Saheb Ji, Angg 1)

Who will break the wall of falsehood ? Where does one go to search for a friend who will help one out ? It is very difficult to find such a friend. True Sikhs therefore seeks the answers from Guru Ji. We can call them such, as they come to the Guru for Light. In the beginning there is the seed; ultimately these seeds will one day begin to bear fruit.

hukam rajaee chalna Nanak likhia naal ||

By submittimg, O' Nanak, to the Hukum (Command) of the Lord of all destiny.
(Sri Guru Granth Saheb Ji, Angg 1)

Baba Farid was a highly spiritual saint, a bhagat, a puran purash or complete human being. His disciples aggregated one and a quarter lakhs. He went all over the country in search of a puran or complete saint who could impart to him the darshan of the Lord. His search finally brought him to a puran fakir (saint).

The fakir os seeing Baba Farid Ji asked him why he was wandering aimlessly. The person, for whom you are wandering around in search of, is in you. Baba Farid Ji then replied, "If He is in me, I cannot see Him." The fakir then told Baba Farid Ji that he was truly in need of a Guru. Baba Farid Ji replied, "All right, I shall become your disciple."

The fakir then told Baba Farid Ji that his first duty as a disciple will be to wake up after midnight, fetch hot water for him and to give him his early morning bath. The fakir asaid that other chores will be given to Baba Farid Ji later; if he could perform this initial job satisfactorily.

Farid Ji started serving his Guru Ji with all his heart and the day came for his final test. One day there was no fire in the house and Farid Ji had to heat water for his Guru Ji's early morning bath. He went to get some sticks of fire. He could see some fire burning in someone's house. It belonged to a woman of low moral values. Previously, Farid Ji used to pass by her house with hatred and disrespect. When, he asked for a stick of fire, the woman decided to take revenge against Farid Ji. She told him that the price of a stick of fire was - one of his eyes. Farid Ji did not hesitate. He borrowed a knife from her and took out one of his eyes and placed it on her hand.

He took the stick of fire and went back. His Guru Ji looked at his blood stained eye and told him that he had passed the final test and could now have the darshan of the Lord. Farid Ji became a puran saint after that incident.

Sant baba Jawala Singh Ji was part of 34 Regiment and there were sikhs in 14, 24, 34, 36, 45, 47 regiments. All the paltans in Rawalpindi were linked with Hotimardan. The subedar(head) of 34 regiment with his team went to see Sant baba Aya Singh Ji hotimardhan. When subedar and his team arrived at the hotimardan to get darshan of baba Ji. Sant baba Aya Singh Ji called Sant baba jawala singh in the Hazoori out of many serving sikhs within in 34 Regiment. Sant baba Jawala Singh Ji went up to baba ji and bow down on sant baba aya singh ji Charan. On sunday, when 34 regiment team wanted to go team. Sant baba Aya Singh Ji asked subedar(head) of that team to bring Sant baba Jawala Singh Ji next week with him. Upon hearing Amrit Bachan of Sant baba Aya Singh Ji, subedar was shocked and later told this to Sant baba Jawala Singh ji .

When 34 regiment subedar and Baba Jawala Singh Ji went again next week. Subedar asked Baba Jawala Singh Ji to go infront and pay his respect to Sant baba aya singh ji. Sant baba Jawala Singh Ji bowed down on baba ji's charan. It was such a blissful expereince that he didn't even realize to take his head off from Baba Aya Singh Charan..

Sant baba aya singh ji then picked up Baba Jawala Singh and baba jawala singh had tears in his eyes. There was this unexplained attachment baba jawala singh ji had towards baba aya singh ji. Baba Ji told baba jawala singh ji to get up in the Amrit vela and come to him.

Sant baba Jawala Singh ji couldn't sleep at night and was very excited. Baba ji took the shower at the well and at 4 am, with subedar went straight to the dera while reciting

Sant baba Jawala Singh went inside and did "Daunduat Bandhana". Baba Aya Singh looked at sant ji with Amrit Ras and looked into his eys and asked "Putar A gaye Ho?" replied Sant Ji , "Ha Pitta Ji ". The way Ram Chandar Ji sat down close to Guru Vishit Ji just like that Baba Aya Singh took Baba Jawala Singh to the side and bring forward fruit of lifetimes meditation and rekinde his passion.

Baba Aya Singh Ji gave Baba Jawala Singh ji recogniation of top student and gave divine sermons, gave him all the techniques to do naam abhayas(meditation). Baba Aya Singh Ji put his hand on Baba Jawala Singh Ji and unveiled 5 types of kosh(vices) and took his atma and leen with Bhram. Baba Aya Singh with his one look itself took all the vices from Baba Jawala Singh Ji. The blessing were so powerful that much acculamated flith and karams were gone out and 18 Sidhiyas and Nuo Nidhiyas were after Baba Jawala Singh Ji. Now Baba Aya Singh ji made sant ji just like him. He made him from glass to gold. Baba Jawala Singh Ji realized that "Jo bhranda suhi pind" the outer creation of world was inside the body.

Baba Aya Singh Ji gave Sant ji five bachans-

    1 Swas- Swas Simran
    2. Ahankar birthi kaddi accept nahi karni (never accept pride/egoistical thoughts).
    3. Attend sangat of Mahapursh and Ascetics
    4. Don't beg from anybody.
    5. Leave the regiment his work (This wouldn't apply to us, unless we have good karams).

Now baba jawala singh ji became puran Sant. Baba Aya singh ji blessed him fully.

Once baba jawala singh ji got premission from murshid to go to the river for meditation. Baba Ji took off all his clothes and sat day and night in meditation. When the time came for duty of his job and subedar did head count in his team. Baba Jawala Singh Ji was missing. Subedar asked baba aya singh ji, where is he?. Baba Aya Singh Ji told him to look around near the river.. Subedar went to see him and found him in the samadhi with no clothes on. Subedar went back to baba aya singh ji and told he is in samadhi. Baba Aya singh ji told subedar to whisper in his ears that i called him. Baba Jawala Singh ji wore his clothes and hurry went to baba aya singh ji.

Baba Aya Singh ji asked baba jawala singh ji, why you were sitting naked? Baba Jawala Singh Ji replied, these clothes which will be replaced eventually and you told me not to beg.. Baba Aya singh told him that vahiguroo will do kirpa. Baba Aya singh asked baba jawala singh to sit outside of the regiment and meditatie. Baba Jawala Singh said there is a risk of those dangerous pathans and evil souls and Baba Aya Singh Ji said not one person, evil soul will come towars you and touch you. Baba Aya Singh Ji asked subedar that Baba Jawala Singh shouldnt have to stay in line like the team members and subedar said , "Satbachan".

Both parties influenced by society patriarchy and feminist model have to rise above from these model for their own sake, own soul- self realization or to be gurmukh to truly follow vows of anand karaj. Self realization is totally different way of being not confined to gender based society models...as soon as you identify with these models, you will start start boxing  yourself into groupism or belief system then viola congratulations you managed yourself to start samasa - wheel of suffering machine once again and fall in right clutches of maya - deep illusion. Good luck unboxing/un digging the grave you made yourself.
The problem is we carry so much unnecessary baggage with us its not necessary... it will have adverse affect on our spirituality as its hinders the truth. Unfortunate thing is people who are affected by these society models will never let their guard down and see truth as it is without lenses of both feminism and patriarchy model.
Gurmat is middle way - truth as it is -  not this or that.

SAadmin got a reaction from sarabatam in ~ Grand Conversation Between Twins Inside The Womb ~
Grand Conversation between twins inside the womb: Baby 1: And you, you believe in life after birth? Baby 2: Absolutely. It’s obvious that life after birth exist. We are here to become stronger and to get ready for Whatever awaits us next. Baby 1: This is absurd. There is nothing after birth! What would life look like outside the womb? Baby 2: Well, there are many stories about the other side. I’ve heard there is a blaze of light there, an intense and profound feeling of joy with deep emotions, thousands of things to live for… For example, I’ve heard that we’ll eat with our mouth, there. Baby 1: That's silly. We have an umbilical cord and that is how we eat. Everyone knows that we don’t use our mouth to eat! And, on the top of it, no one has ever come back from the other world… Those stories are all coming from naïve people. Life just ends at birth. Period. That’s the way it is and we must accept it. Baby 2: Alright, then allow me to think differently. That's for sure, I have no idea what life after birth looks like, and I can’t prove anything to you. But I like to believe, that in the next world, we’ll be able to see our mother and that she will take care of us. Baby 1: “Mother”? You mean that you believe in ‘Mother’? Oh! So where is she? Baby 2: Everywhere, don’t you see it! She is everywhere, all around us. We are part of her and it's thanks to her that we are living right now. Without her, we wouldn’t be here. Baby 1: This is ridiculous! I’ve never seen any mother so it’s obvious that she doesn’t exist. Baby 2: I don’t agree, that’s your way of seeing things. Because sometimes when everything quiets down a little bit, we can hear her sing. We can feel her hugging our world. I’m pretty sure that our life will start after birth. Read it a second time by changing some words.... Change the word BIRTH to DEATH WOMB to WORLD MOTHER to GOD... you will find a mystery unveiling... :D

It will take sometime for our community's collective consciousness to rise above from pendu/tribalism and go back to its puratan gursikh standards. This is from soraj parkash granth:

SAadmin got a reaction from Koi in Wedding between Sikh bride and non-Sikh groom stopped by 'thugs' at London temple
Great article by Kamalroop Singh on this issue-
    source: http://akalinihang.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/some-ad-hoc-comments-about-recent.html
Some ad hoc comments about the recent events surrounding Sikh Marriages
The message of Guru Nanak is to accept all religions and that the Divine is one and the same for all. The Gurdwara is open for all to come and visit, and partake in the Guru's free kitchen and meditation/prayer. The Sikh scripture is not prescriptive, and to find information about marriage rites you have to look at the Rahit-name, i.e. codes of conduct. The primary scripture of the Sikh canon is the Guru Granth Sahib which is devotional, it does not describe in detail how a Sikh should conduct oneself in social life. Therefore, secondary scripture, the Rahit-name were composed in the times of Guru Gobind Singh to fulfil the needs for the emerging community, some three hundred years after Guru Nanak. We need to consider why these injunctions were not bound with the Guru Granth Sahib? I would argue that any code of conduct, like any law, is open to interpretation based on the circumstances. Therefore, these laws related to the Sikhs temporal life, were not fit to be bound with the spiritual content found in the Guru Granth Sahib. The Rahit-name are mostly referred to by Khalsa Sikhs, most Sehajdhari Sikhs will know very little about them, and generally will only accept what is written in Guru Granth Sahib.
The practices of prima noctas by the Moghuls and foeticide by some sections of Indian Society, as well as no widow remarriage, and Sati, led to the chivalrous codes, one of which was to protect women. The community was small and thus had to ensure its survival. The Rahit-name clearly state a Sikh should marry a Sikh, and if someone wishes to marry a Sikh they should embrace Sikhism. A Sikh is defined as someone who believes and practices the teachings of all Ten Gurus, and the Guru Granth Sahib. Some would argue that as Sikhism is against empty ritualism, for a non-Sikh to be married before Guru Granth Sahib when she/he has no intent to follow it, is an empty ritual. The Prem Sumarag Granth circa 1700 clearly states a Sikh should marry his son or daughter within the Sikh community, after taking amrit. So, in actual fact the Sikh marriage rite of Anand Karaj was only prescribed for Khalsa Sikhs (which is still the practice at Takht Hazur Sahib, Nanded), while Sehajdhari Sikhs would have had some sort of marriage blessing in the Gurdwara. We must also bare in mind that to mingle with killers of daughters (female infanticide) and of wives is a serious kurehat, or major break from the Khalsa code, but those who marry their daughters to a non Sikh is a minor transgression or tankha.
Nowadays, we can see young Sikh males dressing up as a Singh and keeping their beard for the day and carrying a sword, and then later on shave their beard. It was probably for this reason that this injunction of being amritdhari for marriage was made. Some Khalsa Sikhs argue that Sehajdhari Sikhs should not be allowed to have an Anand Karaj. This change in tradition occurred the time of British with the introduction of the Anand Marriage Act in 1909, which was adopted by the Singh Sabha. It states:
‘3. Exemption of certain marriages from Act: Nothing in this Act shall apply to -- (a) any marriage between persons not professing the Sikh religion, or’
Since then the position of women has changed worldwide and in the West women are economically independent and have much more freedom. In our secular societies, religion plays a very little role in most peoples lives, and in the West there have been increasing numbers of mixed marriages. Which led to the Akal Takht Sahib issuing a ‘Sandesh’ or advice, which some may argue is different from a ‘Hukam’ or encyclic edict. This ‘Sandesh’ states that to be a Sikh the person must have Singh or Kaur in their name. Sikhs do this at birth, but in reality this title is only officially given to Amritdhari Sikhs. The Sikh Rahit Maryada (1955) states:
Article XVIII - Anand Sanskar (Lit. Joyful Ceremony)
    a. A Sikh man and woman should enter wedlock without giving thought to the prospective spouse’s caste and descent.
    b. A Sikh’s daughter must be married to a Sikh.
    c. A Sikh’s marriage should be solemnized by Anand marriage rites.
    k. Persons professing faiths other than the Sikh faith cannot be joined in wedlock by the Anand Karaj ceremony.
Point A is not adhered to as many Sikhs marry within their caste. Point B is interesting to note that it is about a daughter rather than a son. Point C is also interesting as this deviates away from traditional Rahitname.
The issue behind the protests is that those individuals, who are predominantly male, see these marriages as the loss of a member of the Sikh community, to another. It would be interesting to find out if they have protested at the weddings of Sikh males, with non-Sikh females. This group has employed the Rahitname to support their protests, and seem to have coaching on tactics to employ against the police also. One of the Committee members discussed the issues with the group who said ‘ We are only following the maryada (injunctions) of Guru Gobind Singh, to which the committee member replied you know your Pita ji, but not your Baba, Guru Nanak then.’.
An interesting debate was between the Hundal brothers, Jagraj Hundal and Sunny Hundal. Jagraj Singh is a Khalsa Sikh and runs ‘Basics Of Sikhi,’ and Sunny is a Sehajdhari Sikh and is a journalist. Sunny labelled this emerging group protesting at mixed marriages as the Khaliban, or the Sikh Taliban, which Jagraj Singh considers unfair, as they haven’t committed any act on level with the Taliban to date. However, Sunny’s argument is that if left unchecked, this type of ideology could one day lead to more dangerous forms of extremism.
Perhaps, a good way of reaching common ground is perhaps to introduce a Sikh Marriage Blessing or prayer for any couple.
