A lot of Indian apologists argue that the Congress(I) has had an anti-Sikh policy but the general Hindu population respects and loves the Sikhs. Operation Bluestar,Operation Woodrose, November 1984, police brtuality in Punjab and the systematic killing of the Sikh youth in Punjab, is all the work of the Congress(I) and the Nehru dynasty. And the Hindus have just been duped into following the gruesome agenda of the Congress (I). Is this really the case? A new report released by a human rights organization, Ensaaf (http://www.ensaaf.org/body-1984report.pdf)gives evidence that points to the contrary. It discusses the role of the Indian police force, media, public and the Congress Party in the November 1984 massacre. Chapter 5 of the report is very disturbing because it describes in detail role of the Indian electorate in supporting the killing of Sikhs. Some of the highlights below: ************************************************************* Prakash Kaur a Punjabi Teacher at Delhi university described how children threw rotten food into her courtyard after the massacre and her colleagues at work joked about the Sikh massacre saying "These people should be grabbed by their judis, whirled around, and beaten up thoroughly" "What is a Sikh Kebaab? A burnt Sikh." Papers in 15 languages in India carried advertisements showing barbed wire and asking "Will the border move to your doorstep" and "Why should you feel uncomfortable riding in a taxi driven by a taxi driver who belongs to a different state?" Instead of condemning the massacre the Indian population supported it...according to a person interveiwed by the reporter Dhiren Bhagat, "Go to the villages and they are saying 'aur kyoon nahin maara Sikhon ko' (Why did they not kill more Sikhs?)...people will say 'acha kiya Congress nay' (Congress did well) A poll done by Illustrated Weekly during Nov 20 to Nov 25 indicated that 72% of people in the Hindu heartland felt that because of Indira gandhi's assasination Congress had improved its chances of winning re-election. 70% to 80% of those polled praised the Congress leadership. On Dec 27 1984, after the shortest campaign in India's history, the Congress won 401 out of 508 seats in India's history. Lalit Maken got 60% of the votes in South Delhi. HKL Bhagat got 386,150 votes and his closest contender got only 73,970 votes. Jagdish Tytler got twice as many votes as his nearest opponent Madan Lal Khurana. *************************************************************

Its quite painful to see 'Sikhs' who want to conveniently forget and forgive the massacre of Nov 1984. Forgiving the killers in Nov 1984 is not a matter of having a 'big heart' but perhaps of having no heart at all. Did the Jews forgive and forget the Nazis? Did the State of Israel not go to extreme lengths to catch Adolf Eichmann who was hiding in Argentina? Don't the Armenians teach their children about whay the Turks did to them? Don't the Natives and Blacks in America remember the crimes committed against them? Why are we Sikhs different? What makes us have such disregard for what our bretheren have had to go through? Why do the likes of "Sardu" and "Sikhphilosophy" want to brush the crimes committed against Sikhs under the table? Does it disturb your convenient lives?

Even if Sikhs reach prominence in India in certain spheres, this means absolutely nothing as far as human rights are concerned. And what have these prominent Sikh actors, atheletes, scientists and politicians done to protect the Sikh victims of India? Very little. There is evidence in works such as Who Are the Guilty by PUCL to suggest that the Hindu population did not have too many qualms about killing Sikhs en masse. And how many Hindus have protested the rise of Sajjan and Jagdish to power? How many of them have said that these criminals should be put in jail? The Hindus are awfully silent. How many young Sikhs in Delhi or Chandigarh speak Punjabi better than Hindi? But the Sikhs in India have become misguided and are losing the chardi kala and as well as the defiant Sikh spirit. I just think you need to rediscover your roots and rich history...you will approach life with a fresher perspective. " Actually the Sikhs of Delhi voted in their former killers. And a prominent Sikh leader in Delhi, Prahlad Singh Chandok has shamed us all by giving Jagdish Tytler a siropa and a kirpan. The Sikh voters in Delhi and their leadership have done one of the most shameful deeds in the history of the Sikh faith.

And now in 2004, NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THESE KILLERS IS IN JAIL. Sikhs are now 'reconciling' their differences with Congress, voting these killers back to parliament, shouting "jai hind" and giving siropas to these killers. We should hand our heads in shame.

NEW DELHI, MAY 8. The Congress candidate from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, today received a shot in the arm when a large number of prominent Sikh leaders along with their supporters extended full support to him in the Lok Sabha polls. These Sikh leaders included members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee who accused certain selfish Sikh leaders of misleading the community on various issues. The supporters gathered in huge numbers at the residence of Mr. Kumar at Madipur in the morning. The AICC leader in-charge Delhi, Ahmed Patel, was also present on the occasion and later addressed the gathering. In his speech, Mr. Patel said the Sikhs had a glorious history of patriotism, bravery and participation in the freedom movement. The Congress had always given the Sikhs full honour and respect as it recognised the contribution of the Sikhs to the development of the country. Stating that the Congress had always worked to strengthen the secular fabric of the country, Mr. Patel said unlike the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress did not thrive by dividing people on religious lines. He urged the Sikh community to fight the communal forces with full force and strengthen the hands of the Congress. He expressed confidence that the Congress would register a handsome win in the Lok Sabha polls in the Capital and termed Mr.Kumar as one with a positive approach to all issues including those concerning the Sikhs.
