  1. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Not sure if this is the right section, so please move in case I've erred.

Haven't been on here in several ages, but had this one question, or quest you may say, which brought me here after running around all over the world wide web, unable however, to fetch an answer. So I am here, hoping I could get some help?

Going back all the way back to 1675, we know that there was a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits who came to Sri Anandpur Sahib at the feet of Sahib Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Patshah Ji Maharaj. We also know that this delegation was led by Pandit Kirpa Ram Dutt from Mattan, Srinagar. What I do know is that his father Pandit Aru Ram Dutt was a shardhalu of Sahib Sri Guru Har Rai Sahib Jee Maharaj, his grandfather Pandit Narain Das Dutt was a shardhalu of Sahib Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Jee Maharaj, and his great grandfather Pandit Brahm Das Dutt was a shardhalu of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Patshah Jee Maharaj. This Pandit Brahm Das Dutt is the same person who used to carry loads of books and was very arrogant and egoistic about his knowledge, and when Guru Sahib uttered the Shabad he fell at Guru Sahib's feet. I also know that Pandit Kirpa Ram Dutt stayed in the Darbar of Guru Gobind Rai after the Shaheedi of Sahib Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Maharaj. Here he was a court poet where he translated different works from Farsi to Braj as most of the Kashmiri Pandits were fluent in Persian. One of the books that Pandit Kirpa Ram translated that is the 12th century Kimiye-ye-sadat by Muhammad Al Ghazali. Finally, he took Amrit in 1699 and was one of the Shaheeds at the battle of Chamkaur Sahib and is known ever since as Bhai Kirpa Singh (Dutt), as did his brother Shaheed Bhai Sanmukh Singh (Dutt) who was earlier perhaps Sanmukh Ram or Sanmukh Das.

We know that dushts like Gangu ended up settling in Punjab, near Morinda in the village called Saheri and today called Kheri. My questions are as follows:

A.) is it possible that Bhai Kirpa Singh Ji's descendants also settled some place in Punjab? If yes, any idea where? Like roughly?

B.) were they all Sikhs, as in all embraced Sikhi, or did some of them remain Hindus?

C.) most importantly, is there any record of their names, like the next few generations?

The only Sikhs with surname Dutta (considered same as Dutt) I have come across are from Jammu Kashmir area. Perhaps some of them are those descendants of Bhai Kirpa Singh who became Sikhs? Because from what I know, Dutt or Dutta is in no way an ethnic Kashmiri Brahmin surname, its proper Punjabi Brahmin. The only other Dutts/Duttas are Bengali Kayasths (non-Brahmin).

By the way, you all probably know that Gangu later fled to Allahabad, was killed by Singhs in 1710, his descendants moved to Delhi and served the Mughals and then the British and are the ruling diabolical Gandhi clan today.

Thanks so much in advance, any historic input will be greatly appreciated. I am not really sure where to turn to in order to find out all this. Maybe some day when I have time (& $$$) I can perhaps try going to Kashmir possibly to find out more, lol. But as of now my sole source is the net.

  2. About 6 or so months ago I posted a potentially "violent" message as to how Sikhs need to fight back any racist attacker. I was told it was a stupid idea, but reality is in fact far from our perceived perception of western-defined "civilization".

    http://publication.samachar.com/topstoryto...amp;?vsv=TopHP1

Melbourne: A 20-year-old man was stabbed in a western suburb here after he had allegedly racially abused a group of Indian students here in possibly the first act of retaliation.

The victim allegedly said "You are black. You don't belong here. Go away from our country", The Age newspaper reported.

Police said they were looking for two dark-skinned men aged between 23 and 29 years in connection with the attacks yesterday.

They said a car believed to belong to people attacking Indians was torched at a factory near the station in western suburb.

The attack on the victim was the first time Indian students appeared to have retaliated against violent attacks against them as they walk back home late at night, the daily said.

  3. In Sukhmani Sahib viakhia by Gyani Thakur Singh Ji, part 64, forward all the way to 22 minutes and listen, how Dasmesh Pita woke up a Singh at Amritvela and sang Vaheguru in his ear. Gyani Ji sings Vaheguru in the same tone as told to him by that Singh himself.

Check it out : http://www.sikhee.com/audio/Katha/Giani%20...hya_Part_64.mp3 , starting from 22 minutes onwards.

    Enjoy!!!!!

NY Sikh Victim of Brutal Racial Attack May Lose Vision

UNITED SIKHS Works with NYPD to Ensure Attackers Charged with Hate Crime

Mejindarpal Kaur, Legal Director of UNITED SIKHS commented, “It never gets easier each time we have to assist a victim of hate crime. The crime is horrific and the victim suffers alone both physically and emotionally. UNITED SIKHS will assist police and the family to ensure that the perpetrators are vigorously prosecuted for a hate crime, and that the courts will send a strong signal that they treat such crimes very seriously.”

Jackson Heights, New York, USA: Jasmir Singh, a 21-year-old Sikh college student was savagely attacked and stabbed in his left eye during an unprovoked attack on Sunday outside a grocery store in Queens, New York by three young men wielding a glass bottle. Jasmir sustained injuries to his left-eye, head, face, and back, and has not regained his vision after undergoing a five hour surgery when he received 18 stitches on his eye. Police arrested two of the suspected attackers nearby, but the third remains at large. The two arrested have been charged with assault in the first degree and robbery in the first degree, both serious felony charges. UNITED SIKHS is working with NYPD Community Affairs Liaison to urge police to charge the attackers additionally with hate/bias crime charges.

The incident took place at about 4am on Sunday on 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights. Jasmir Singh and his friend, Pierre Dizon, were returning home when they were confronted by three young men. Jasmir and Pierre attempted to walk away from the three men, but they would not allow them to leave. The men taunted Jasmir about his hair and beard, initially asking him why he did not cut it, and then threatening him that they were going to cut it. Jasmir and Pierre were able to enter the store to ask for assistance and call the police. The police department was on the phone when the three men entered the store, pulled Jasmir outside and began to beat him with a broken glass bottle. Jasmir was hit on his left eye causing it to rupture and bleed profusely, and they continued to beat him on his back, front torso, and head causing lacerations and bleeding. Pierre Dizon, of Filipino origin, was not attacked and escaped unharmed.

Police arrested two of the attackers after they were found hiding behind a house nearby, but the third remains at large. The two arrested are aged 21 years old and 16 years old, and one is of Hispanic decent and the other South Asian. Both have been charged with assault in the first degree and robbery in the first degree. UNITED SIKHS was alerted as to the attack by community leader Harpreet Singh Toor, and then shortly thereafter by Assemblyman Rory Lancman’s office.

UNITED SIKHS Legal Director Mejindarpal Kaur, was present at Elmhurst Hospital yesterday to assist the family and met the doctors who attended to Jasmir. According to Dr. Ravi of Elmhurst Hospital, Jasmir suffered a corneal laceration of the left eye and a ruptured globe which was stitched during a five hour surgery on Sunday involving 18 stitches.

“It is too early to tell if (Jasmir’s) vision will return as there is a lot of swelling in his left eye. He will be observed again on Friday to see if there is any sign of improvement to his vision,” said Dr. Murray Meltzer, who attended to Jasmir and is Professor of Ophthalmology and the Director of Ophthalmic Plastic and Orbital Surgery, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and an internationally known pioneer for surgical and microsurgery procedures in eye reconstruction.

A regular blood-donor who had volunteered with his father to distribute fliers of missing persons at ground zero in the aftermath of 9/11, Jasmir is a sophomore studying biomedical sciences at City College. When UNITED SIKHS team met with Jasmir, he had not eaten for the last three days because he said he had no appetite or desire to eat and was stoic even though in pain and sedated. “We live in a safe neighborhood and we never thought it unsafe to walk the streets at that hour. I thought they were going to cut my hair, and the next thing I had a broken bottle hit into my eye, head, front, and back torso and I could not see anything else as blood filled both my eyes,” stated Jasmir Singh.

Jasmir Singh’s father, Jiwan Singh, 54 years old, commented on his son’s condition stating, “I pleaded with the doctors to save my son's eyes when they told me that the damage was severe. I am thankful to the four doctors who stitched his eyeball. But my son's vision in his left eye has not returned.” Commenting on the incident, he stated, “This is the fourth hate crime against my family. I had been the victim of the three previous attacks since 9/11, one of which was a stabbing while I was riding a subway train. My wife and I both work to support our six children's education, three of whom including Jasmir are college going. If you visit our modest rented home where we have no beds and we all sleep on the floor, you will not think that we could afford to make ends meet, let alone support college education. We are in deep debt because of college fees, yet we were hopeful of our family’s future. As he wiped the tears that flowed from Jasmir’s damaged eye while waiting for medical attention in the eye clinic, he added “our grown son may never see again in his left eye.”

    - "We will be reaching out to education trusts and the community for financial assistance to help Jasmir with his medical condition and his education, which will be a help at a time when he and his family has had to deal with a traumatic experience." The family is still unsure if their family medical plan will cover Jasmir's hospitalization and after care as he has reached the age of 21, said Mejindarpal Kaur, UNITED SIKHS legal director.

If you wish to assist Jasmir's family, you may donate online at http://www.unitedsikhs.org/donate or mail a check payable to UNITED SIKHS and marked "Jasmir Singh's education and medical treatment fund" to JAF POB 7203, NY, NY 10116.

"The swearing of President Obama is the high point of this week and the attack on this young man is the low point in the United States. Americans have to understand that everyone in this country is here to make this a better place; by seeing these assaults, Sikhs have begun to question whether we can truly move about freely after 9/11 since we are being attacked based on our appearance," stated community leader Harpreet Singh Toor.

Assemblyman Rory Lancman, elected State representative for the area commented, "I am utterly appalled by the vicious, racially motivated attack on Jasmir Singh, a young Sikh man from our community. I represent a large Sikh population, and Sikhs have experienced a wave of harassment and discrimination since 9/11. Queens will not tolerate racism or bigotry of any kind. This horrific crime goes against everything we, as Americans, believe and I urge all New Yorkers to root out racial and religious prejudice."

Jiwan Singh was thankful to both Assemblymen Rory Lancman and Jose Peralta who obtained a concession from the hospital to accommodate Jasmir, who was due to be discharged today, to be retained as an inpatient until Friday due to the non-conducive environment in his home.

  5. http://www.sikhiwallpapers.com/news/jaspri...-from-korea/183

On Dec. 7, 2007 a crane barge broke free from one of the barges towing it and ran into the side of the Hebei Spirit, which was at anchor. The collision caused 10,800 tons of crude oil to flow into the sea, polluting much of Korea’s coastline..

A lower court had cleared the two Indian seamen of wrongdoing in July, but then an appeals court sentenced Jasprit Singh and other to 18 months for negligence in avoiding the collision and for not doing enough to limit the spill. His first officer was sentenced to eight months

The one thing that Jasprit Singh Chawla clung to during the days of ordeal was his Sikh faith, getting up every single day at 5:30 am for his Nitnem.

Back home, Jasprit Kaur Chawla’s lovely wife Gurpreet Kaur Chawla could hardly ever sleep peacefully all these months. Her year long fight was exhausting and with the system being so apathetic, it also perhaps gave her an insight into the unfairness built in into the way government machinery works. But there was not a moment when she was not praying to Akalpurakh for her husband’s safety and return.

Actually, the guilty verdict was not even expected, particularly because the crew members had already been acquitted earlier by a lower court. “The chief officer did not even get to say goodbye to his family,†said Capt. Sharad Saldanha of V.Ships, the company that manages the tanker. “They got to meet the next day. But the families were not present in court, because none of us expected such a total U-turn of judgment. Not only us but the whole maritime community; all the international organizations are totally shocked.â€

The ruling has met with condemnation from the shipping community. The International Transport Workers Federation and other shipping bodies have both slammed the verdict, calling it a vindictive decision.

“The captain is a very religious man. He gets up at 5:30 every morning to say his prayers. In fact, when he arrived in prison, his main concerns were getting his armlet, which is a religious thing, and his turban,†Saldanha had told The Korean Herald. He used to spend most of his day praying and reading religious books.

“He doesn’t want to read anything else - he just wants to read religious books. He wants to know what is happening outside with this case and religious books. Other than that he is not interested in reading.â€

Jasprit Singh, who does not eat non-vegetarian food for religious reasons, avoided most of the prison food as vegetarian options were too little. He survived on just rice and water since the 10th of December. His colleagues were well aware that his health was deteriorating. Chawla was kept in a small individual cell and was let out for one hour a day.

Now Singh is back home after South Korean court released him on bail.

  6. This is a katha by Sant Hari Singh Ji Randhawe waaley. Its 57 minutes 43 seconds. If you listen to the entire katha, then nothing like that. If you want the best part, you may want to start listening from 46 minutes 2 seconds onwards. These 11 minutes contain details about Khalsa Raj as stated by Shaheed Singhs themselves, I REPEAT: SHAHEED SINGHS THEMSELVES! These were told by Shaheed Singhs to none other than one of the gems of Sikhi in modern times, Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. Listen to these amazing bachans, they are simply mind blowing! These were supposed to remain gupt, but were unfolded years later. I was thinking of typing out whatever was said, but that won't serve the purpose, plus I find myself incapable to grasp the entire aroma of it. If you want to enjoy it, listen for yourselves.

Go here : http://www.gurmatveechar.com/audio/katha/k...esent_Day_Katha , under the folder Baba Hari Singh (Randhawe wale) and listen to the katha numbered 17, Raj Karega Khalsa.

Taliban new dictum: Marry daughters to militants

Islamabad On the heels of their crusade against girls going to schools, the Taliban have now issued new dictum in the areas under their sway asking parents of the grown up daughters to marry them to militants or ‘face dire consequences’.

This new force-marriage campaign is being run in most of the areas in the Pakistan's troubled NWFP through regular announcements made in mosques to congregations.

Such instances have come to light recently through some of the affected women daring to go to authorities for justice rather than meekly surrender to the militants dictates.

Salma, who teaches in a primary school in Peshawar, told the influential ‘Dawn’ newspaper that Taliban have told families to declare in mosques if they have unmarried girls so that their hand could be given in marriage, most probably to militants.

If they did not do so, the girls would be forcibly married off; the newspaper quoted the 30-year-old widow as saying.

She also said the Taliban in the Swat valley of NWFP have threatened women with dire punishment, if they are found outside their homes without identity cards and a male relative accompanying them.

Couples should also carry 'Nikah Nama' or marriage certificates with them when they venture out of home or they will be in trouble, she said.

"I have heard that Taliban have announced that if a girl above the age of seven is found outside her house, she would be slaughtered," Salma said.

Once an avid listener of Pakistani Taliban commander Maulana Fazlullah's FM radio station, Salma doesn't tune in to the channel any more.

"Usually there is only dreadful news on the radio, so I stopped listening to it," said Salma, who has three sons.

Fazlullah, also known as Mullah Radio for the fiery sermons he broadcasts on his illegal FM station, leads a campaign by Taliban militants to enforce Shariat or Islamic law in Swat.

Fazlullah's followers have blown up or torched over 100 girls' schools in Swat and barred women from going to markets.

The Taliban's recent decision to completely ban girls' education from January 15 has upset Salma and her colleagues because most of them are the sole bread-winners of their families.

"My colleagues were crying when they heard this bad news. Some have aged and handicapped parents while others have lost their male members in the ongoing conflict," she said.

"Our principal has said that all female teachers should write down the domestic problems forcing them to work so that they could be forwarded to Taliban, who would be requested to review their policy about women's education," Salma said.

Women who go out for work, especially social work, are tagged as immoral and eliminated by militants controlling the area, he said.

Bakht Zeba, a 45-year-old woman councillor who was a staunch supporter of girls' education, was murdered on November 25. She was first threatened by Taliban to stop her activities or face dire consequences. When she did not pay heed to the warnings, the Taliban shot her dead in her house.

  9. How Ajmal was broken

    Baljeet Parmar

    Thursday, December 25, 2008 04:05 IST

MUMBAI: Well trained and heavily brainwashed, Mohammed Ajmal Amir aka Kasab, the lone terrorist to be captured alive by the Mumbai Police after the November 26 attacks, proved to be a hard nut to crack in his initial days in the custody of the crime branch.

All Lashkar terrorists are trained to avoid spilling the beans during interrogation. They are put through extreme physical torture and mental exercises to help them maintain their resolve.

True to his training, in the initial days of captivity, Ajmal remained arrogant and even abused and shouted at his interrogators in an effort to provoke them to harm him physically. This way he would have had to be moved to hospital and extracted mileage from it.

But his captors were too experienced to fall for this tactic, and Ajmal was apparently ill prepared for the shift in interrogation tactics employed by the crime branch.

In the initial days, ace crime branch officers studied his behaviour minutely and prepared notes on his strong and weak character traits. Based on their observations, different officers were sent separately to talk to Ajmal. While one tried to bully him, another promised that no harm would come to him.

But the technique went beyond the good-cop-bad-cop routine that is now standard operating procedure in criminal investigations. A key insight the early interrogators obtained was that Ajmal, like many Punjabis, was emotional.

That set the stage for joint commissioner of police (crime) Rakesh Maria to step in. A Punjabi himself, Maria began conversing with Ajmal in Punjabi.

Reliable sources revealed that once the ‘Punjabi chord’ was struck between the two, Maria spent hours with the terrorist and extracted much information from him. “In a couple of days, he started singing like a canary and even started asking for favours, like wishing to talk to his mother,†said a police source.

The request came as a big relief to the police. It was a signal that they had broken through Ajmal’s mental defences and that he would be willing to cooperate.

“Till the time a captive remains adamant, it becomes difficult to break him,†the source said. “Once he starts asking for favours, it shows that he has lost resistance. It is an age-old interrogation dictum.â€

The police told Ajmal that though they could not give him a telephone to talk to his mother, but he was free to write a letter - which he did. It was a double-edged weapon. Without any coercion, the police procured a sample of Ajmal’s handwriting while discovering a weakness - his affection for his mother. That was enough to dismantle whatever little resistance Ajmal had retained till then.

The Punjabi chord further helped to convince Ajmal to write a letter to the Pakistani high commissioner asking for legal aid as he was a Pakistani national. “Maria saheb’s Punjabi really helped us in a big way,†the source said. “Most times the religious and linguistic barriers become stumbling blocks during investigation of sensitive cases. Ajmal felt at ease talking in his mother tongue.â€

  10. A personal video message delivered by famed Sikh singer/activist Rabbi Singh Shergill, to the First Global Sikh Civil Rights Conference. Rabbi speaks to civil rights issues facing the community and specifically focuses on the Right to Turban cases challenging the laws banning ostensible religious symbols in schools and on photograph identification. For more information please visit http://www.unitedsikhs.org

Personally, I really respect and appreciate someone from his field being in perfect Sikhi saroop and coming forward to address Sikh issues in this day and age.
