  3. Firstly, let’s quit with the paranoia. I don’t think Gurdware about to die out that quickly. The sikhnet post appears to be genuine to me because I too have asked similar questions in the past. Whilst I think her questions and points are very general and can't be answered with simplified statements, (we'll just end up going round in circles), she raises some interesting points about the lack of guidance and education in our society. Maybe due to our intense focus with rituals and outer exteriors we appear to have forgotten basic sikh principles and philosophy – the foundation upon which to base our morals and values on, and hence the confusion. Or maybe we’ve just forgotten to introspect and ask ourselves why we do what we do (or don’t) before imparting our knowledge to children. I personally can’t comment upon whether Hindus/Muslims/Christians are more clued up because I see confusion all around! And btw I too feel funny about bowing to the golak before my guru! Even though I understand the concept of ‘offering’ and do agree with it do you think there will ever be an alternative to this?
  4. when i got rabbi shergill's album, a while ago now, i rinsed this tune like anything i love it he's put a really nice melody to the lyrics
  5. Agreed. I really enjoyed reading these quotes. I thought the one by Nikka was amazing. "If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate," Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)
  6. I have an uncle married to a brazilian lady in canada. She can speak Punjabi really well and got into sikhi in quite a big way when they married although she's relaxed a bit now. Their elder son can speak punjabi and portuguese in addition to english and seems to have a good understanding of sikhi too.
  7. Agreed with OSingh. In adopting an intense approach in a short period of time, you'll just put the weight back on again. Watch your diet and integrate exercise (something you enjoy) into your life on a longer term basis.
  8. Doesn't sikhi encourage a householders life i.e family life, man-woman, nayane bache? Our gurus were also clearly pro-sex, pro-CREATION. Why get so stressed over it? :? As for the article, it's just an opinion piece, an individual perspective, it's boring.
  9. I've studied some structuralist linguistic theory by Saussure but am not familiar with the philosophies by Patanjali and Bhartrhari. Care to enlighten?
  10. ME! I can read, write and speak Punjabi in Gurmukhi
