  1. It is inappropriate to dress in this way and talk about religion. The dress she is wearing gives off a certain impression which is sexually arousing. Whilst sending out this impression she is mixing this impression with religious ideas. It is like mixing whisky with milk -- a bad combination sure to give you indigestion.
  2. Im sorry to say that this is absolutely absurd. This type of thinking encourages mindlessness and totally unresponsible behaviour. A true persons Dharma would be to question what is right and wrong not just blindly do things and then start to blame God when you seriously begin to suffer for unheedful acts. Death is a very serious thing and each Being going through the process of death can be filled with God power and Shaktis/energies that will seperate the substances of his/her individuality. There are some customs at funerals where the dead persons family say that if the deceased owed anyone any money that they will pay it off. And also any ill-will or bad feelings were tried to be resolved as these could hinder the progression of the individual after death. Also I read about a sect in India that actually say everything bad about the dead person at the funeral, so that no one keeps any bad feelings in his heart for them. So it is only worth continuing life if it can help the dying person pay off debts and settle and arguments or rows he may have had. If the person is not conscious then IT is not a person as a human being is only human because of consciousness and awareness mixed with mitti.
  3. Everything in the world is corrupt why should religion be any different? By rejecting all forms of religion because they are corrupt is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Religion has to be uncorrupted by true believers. I'd like to ask how is it possible to worship God without religion? By religion I mean a structure a person adopts or fits himself into by which he approximates his doings to the great unseen plan of a higher consciousness. Let us say Sikhi is a religion, according to my definition, would it be possible to worship God without following Sikhi? Somehow i doubt that it is possible.
  4. No, it is wrong to believe in God but not in religion. Because an individual's religion is her own god. A Sikh believes in a formless nameless God, but it is the act of being a Sikh that makes a connection with this Unknown God. If the individual was not an acting Sikh or an acting Christian etc. then God would not know this individual because the individual does not make God exist in his and through his religion. This is why deism paved the way for modern scientific atheistic belief, the deists believed in a formless nameless God but they did not make this God Living but made him dead-seperate from themselves-too abstract. Because God can only become alive through a man living daily in true religion. Only at a later stage is it correct to dispense with religion.
  5. i do not think it is acceptable. Scripture means writing or an inscription. It originally refered to the written word, it is derived from scribe which meant write down.Later the word scripture became associated with the Christian Bible. Bani means Word. Or more accurately the act of speaking a word. When a word is spoken air is expelled that is why in sanskrit Vaani is derived from Vaa which means to blow e.g. Nirvaan which means 'to blow out'. Baani means a living word something that is spoken and made real. Scripture is dead writing which no one understands anymore. If Baani turns into scripture it will be a very very Sad day for me.
  6. Someone once said when you try to pin down a concept with a technical language, all you pin down is it's shadow. Thats western science for you smoke and shadows. Mandal in the context of indian astronomy would mean an elliptical orbit. Mandal used in Sant-mandal would not mean an elliptical orbit of sants, but a group or congregation of sants. I do not see any ambiguity or lack of hard definition, on the contrary indian language defines terms highly precisely but the context has to be taken into account. Indic languages are more concerned with the essential inner meaning of a word. English is more concerned with outer form and with an excessive obsession with classifying outer phenomena, they call this a technical language, neglecting the fact that language evokes images and associations in the mind. These images and associations may be chaotic and disordered but the outer language may seen to be technical and orderly.
  7. Dalsingh Ji Khand means piece or a shard. e.g. a whole pot smashes into different khands Mandal is circle or elliptical orbit Brahm Anda is just that Brahma's Egg, according to puranik cosmology the universe was emanated from a 'golden egg' The egg is a symbol. its shape is elliptic like the orbits of planets and it contains 'life' so it became a sign for something else. Graha means grasping or seizing. PLanet actually means wanderer. Graha and PLanet are not synonomous even though the relate to the same phenomena. Ancient Hindus saw the 'planets' not as physical objects but as fates the seize your mind and make you experience mental states. E.g. if a person starts wearing all black clothes and acts depressed then Saturn has 'seized' his mind. Srishti means creation or more specifically an outflowing of creation like rivers as the word in its concrete sense is derived from the flowing of rivers. The concrete always preceeds the abstract in language. (English has become almost abstracted into meaningless! no relation to reality) Loa is the same as Lok. Originally it meant seeing and then world and in punjabi now it is used in the sense of a group of people. Maybe by linking the meanings it can be construed as the viewpoint of a large group of people which determines their world outlook or which 'world' they inhabit.
  8. There is an interesting cosmology from medieval times in relation to the musical scale DO - DOminus (almighty all powerful ALL Suns and galaxies) SI - SIdera (stars - galaxies) LA - via LActea (milky Way) SOL - SOL (SUn) FA - FAta (The fates or known as the planets) MI - MIcrocosmos (Earth -Human Beings) RE - REgina coelum (queen of the sky - The Moon) DO - DOminus Modern western astronomy is schizophrenic. By this is meant that the subjective individual is considered as secondary and the physical fact as a primary truth. Human experience is not considered as important as a physical fact, knowable through the five senses. The absurdity of this position is self evident. The ancients knew that the Earth rotated around the Sun (Pythagoras as early as 3rd century BC) There is evidence the Vedic civilization had knowledge of the cosmos, which can be shown through their knowledge of the precession of the equinoxes recorded in the Veda. In order for western imperialists to further their agenda of controlling everything they have to utilise a crude form of social darwinism. Modern astronomy is a way of 'wowing' people into thinking that we are the peak of civilization and our ancestors were savages who knew nothing. It is interesting to consider a SIkh cosmology. The five Khands in BabaJi's Japji Sahib Ji, maybe can tentaively correlated thusly: Sach Khand - DO - Dominus - The All The Absolute The Unknowable ALL Karam Khand - SI - Sidera - The Galaxies -- ------------LA- Via Lactea - The Milky Way Saram Khand - SOL - The Sun Gyaan Khand - FA - The Planets or the Fates Dharam Khand - Mi - The Earth --------------Re - The moon
  9. When we start to understand and try and imbibe the Sikh message does it not lead to a weakening of the prominence of these types of external identifications which are a manifestation of maya (illusion) to one with a soul, which has all the characteristics given in Jaap Sahib i.e. without jaat, paat, rang, rekh, dharam etc. etc. etc. but then how do we balance this with miri duties here as Sikhs?" It is a mistake to totally efface external identifications of caste, this world is maya, maya has to be made into harmony with higher principles not destroyed or effaced. My Grandfather is Ramgharia a carpenter by trade they had a shrine of Baba Vishvakarma in India and used to do pooja to tools. This is true caste it gives status and honour to an individual. There is nothing wrong with having pride in true caste and following on from our ancestors. It is wrong when people use caste as a label to promote their personality this is false casteism i.e. when a brahmin takes money from people to do rituals he has no understanding of - expoiting peoples ignorance by a false caste title. True caste is a reflection of what an individual is in his essence - what he does - in the past when the world was ordered along sane methods of living a caste would perfect a art of living and pass on knowledge through herditary and tradition to new generations who would perfect the art. As the world is now descending into chaos the old castes are not reflective of true inner sanskaars and just labels people affix onto their personalities, bearing no resemblance to reality therefore being false. It is one of the aims of 'enlightend' western civilization to destroy all traditional knowledge that were preserved by what can be called castes. Because this empowers people and gives them self respect. If a person can be beaten down and made into a number in a faceless corporation he does not know where he come from where he is going and who he is, he becomes easier to control and fit into the machinery of the system. Also i dont think Gurbani anywhere has the equivalent to the word Soul. The nearest I can think of is Jeev. The correct translation of Jeev is vivifying principle and not soul as it has sometimes been made out to be. The jeev vivifies or animates the physical body. The soul in western traditions is associated with movement either up or down, so the soul can go into bad things as well as good. Just having a soul is not positive it is neutral like a knife is neutral but the intelligence/concsiosness wielding the knife can use it to cut bread and feed the poor or kill someone.
  10. Also I believe that the Kalki power functions on many levels. On personal individual level, on a family level, on a societal level, a national level, on a global level and on a cosmic level. The function of Kalki can be understand in a persons mind and then this function can be seen at work outside in society etc.
  11. The etymology of Kalki is interesting. The root is from Kalka which means "impurity , meanness , falsehood , hypocrisy , deceit , sin" and also "dirt , filth the wax of the ear ordure , faeces". But the final a is substituted for i. (i) in grammar, more often than not, represents feminine nouns and also indicates the locative case. As the feminine produces, Kalki can be explained as he that is born or comes out of the filth. Another word for Kalki is Niskalank or Nehkalank, kalank means stain, filth and Nis is a prefix indicating 'out of' and 'forth from'. There is a saying that a tyrants' actions contain the seed of his destruction. Impure, mean, and hypocritical actions are the filth from which the destruction (Kalki) is born. Kalki is one of God's powers in the Cosmos that is born from the filth of wrong actions. It destroys old wrong actions that have gained strength and momentum through becoming habits in daily life, so new ways of daily life can grow. It is the duty of people who wish to help God to allow the Kalki power to become manifest, but as we all partake of living in a sinful society this may result in being seperated from that which we have become habituated towards.
  12. I agree, a small proportion of the world, in the developed countries are using 99% of resources, to maintain their super-luxurious lifestyles. The sad thing is, it is not possible for all to live this lifestyle, but yet the ideal has become to live this super-luxurious lifestyle, un-obtainable for the majority, leading to much non-satisfaction of desires.
  13. So we should use less electricity. The problem is not how to keep up production with consumption But how to reduce consumption. The Earth can only produce so much-- but people can consume infinitly
  14. Chatanga do you think it is humorous that certain times of day are reccommended for meditation and prayer? The period of Amritvela just before sunrise and also the twilight period before sunset. Why is this period of time suitable for meditation? Just like the time of full moon in the sky it is only the Sun rising in the sky, what difference does it make if we pray at 6am or 1230pm? Anyway here is the study i reffered to so you don't think im just making things up http://www.astrozero.co.uk/astroscience/petrastappfullmoon.pdf
  15. Don't dismiss aesops' fables so lightly, many of his stories were taken from the Hita Updesh or Hitopdesa from India. And there has been proof that some of these stories in a changed garb formed the original persian stories which made up the Arabian Nights. Some of these stories are very ancient and contain wisdom. Wolves are traditionally associated with the moon and tigers and lions with the Sun. One obvious correspondence is the colour of their furs'. Wolves also howl at the full moon. THe moon is associated on one level with lunacy hence Lunar. There was a police study carried out where they found that violent crimes increased on full moon nights. This is why the wolf is bad. Wolf in itself is not bad but it is a symbol of something unpleasent.
  16. An interesting book on the subject for those interested Satans tragedy and redemption Iblis in sufi psychology Peter J Awn http://www.amazon.com/Satans-Tragedy-Redemption-Iblis-Psychology/dp/9004069062 Remember Iblis/Shaitan was one of Bhagwans biggest Bhagats he done Bhagti of Khuda for 10,000 years and then for one mistake he was sent out of His presence out of Jannat... One party speculates that Shaitan is expelled forever from the presence of God others say he has become wiser by his expulsion from Jannat and will return back to do bhagti of Khuda with even more honour - As God is most forgiving.
  17. The devil is a teacher--some kid may understand something if you tell him but some other kid may need a good thappar on his face before he understands in my theory the devil is a thappar.
  18. The word inspiration is interesting it originally meant a blowing/breathing into. And now means "a divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul". The Guru is the ultimate teacher and through 'air' The Guru inspires the chela. Very tenuously it could be said inspiration is hearing the 'word' of The Guru. Thus the true chela is always listening to the 'word' of the Guru which is carried through the 'air'. Note that blowing - -> breathing - - > life. The blessing of the Guru gives life, through which generation (pita) and gestation (Ma) is possible. Creation of the Universe could also be implied here. Compare Genesis where the Spirit of God hovered over the waters and then seperated the waters and created night and day. And also Hiranyagarbha "There was nothing, either moving or static. Then Svayambhu, Self-manifested Being arose, which is a form beyond senses. It created the primordial waters first and established the seed of creation into it. The seed turned into a golden womb, Hiranyagarbha. Then Svayambhu entered in the egg, and it is called Vishnu because of entering" There are also other correspondences that we can suggest Pavan Guru being Sattva Pani Pita Rajas and Mata being Tamas. Sattva being lightest (air) and tamas being heaviest (earth)
  19. Dalsingh please stop being absurd. Pavan would more accurately mean something like rooh which is a spirit. Rooh in original arabic means air or breath. The same as Pnuema in greek means air and spirit. Pani Pita is fertilising sperms/seeds in dharti earth the womb the mother Earth. The Guru is bringing a teaching that needs correct ground to grow in and needs to be fertilised. Im sorry but Guru Granth Sahib is not about ecology.
  20. How could you forget the classic no meat on Tuesday Also do not cut nails on tuesday Left palm itch -- money lose Right palm itch -- money gained Left eye twitch is a sign of something bad and right eye something good Left is always seen as inauspicious. To disrespect someone you seat them on your left Also when doing parkarma circunambulation you keep the object of respect to your right and walk clockwise. When facing East south is right (Dakshin daksha also means right) and North is left, North is known as the direction of death it is said when sleeping your head should not be in the north direction. Mummies in ancient egypt were entombed with head in north. Left and Right are related to Yoga Left being feminine.
  21. Plus calling omenology a science is complete rubbish. http://www.searchgur.../pauri/8/line/ Also Gurbani says a Gurmukh is exceedingly rare maybe one in a billion can be a Gurmukh. Omens have been consulted since babylonian times maybe even before. A Gurmukh does not need this knowledge of omens because he is above maya and does not ask for anything from the world. A Gurmukh is a Siddha which means all his desires are continiously fulfilled and to go near him means your desires will be fulfilled. But for average people knowledge of omens can be useful in daily life. Think of the other appliances you have in your house that are useful in your daily life - washing machine dishwasher etc. - these machines were probably made at great cost to the environment and made through suffering of others. Why dont you reject these technologies that make your life easier. Whereas the technology of Omens you are willing to reject even though it does no harm to anyone. But as with all psychological sciences intuition plays a large role, so dishonest people can manipulate it. If you wish to understand why and how Omens work C G Jung the great psychologist wrote an essay called Synchronicity - an A-CAUSAL connecting principle which explains the psychic principle behind Omens. As Gurbani says all is One -- Psychic and material is the same they affect each other.
  22. An imaginary character from German folklore? OKaaaaay then. Sorry to keep going off-topic but this character is an important player in Archetypal History. Just as there are characters in physical history there are also characters in the realm of the psyche but they do not have physical bodies but possess an intelligence. On a smaller fragmented personal level you make a pact with this chap when you indulge in temporary sensory pleasure when you know you shouldn't or you take more from the world than is alloted to you, in exchange for.....well..... something or other..
  23. Yes, things that signify auspiciousness and auspiciousness are known as omens. Omenology in India is a known science, one of the Vedanga's that is known as Nimitta. For instance totally black animals are known as unlucky (due it being Shani Ji's/Saturns colour) so if you see a black cat when you for instance start out to the bank for a loan this could be an omen of misfortune that you will not get a loan. Please do not mock traditional beliefs as they contain much wisdom. You are right the economic view allowed the british to conquer the world. But the cost was quite immense - you could say they *sold out* To a certain character named Mephistopheles who taught the British this science <<---- if you do a search on this characters name you will find out what the British had to give up to gain this so called science. And you advocate the Khalsa to use this vile means how despicable! The end does not justify the means. For the dangers and inhumane consequences of economic ideology please see "Rationality and the ideology of Disconnection". I agree, but i just offer an ideal on how things maybe should be, i do not mention any particular place or society.
  24. 'for them the natural impulse is for other people of the same gender' This is not a natural impulse coming from within i.e. an impulse of an individuals ESSENCE. But an outside impulse grafted onto the PERSONALITY, which overrides natural impulses which are present in the human ESSENCE. The increase of ideas and pseudo-concepts (inc. fake sciences l;ike economics) cause a growth in personality which is fake because it comes from outside. There is a difference between human ESSENCE and human PERSONALITY. As I said personality comes from what people -- or outside forces like the media -- tell YOU you are, and essence is the innate sanskars you are born with. As this civilization worships personality and hates anything coming from essence, there are many gays that are not gay from their inherent sanskaars but are gay because they worship or identify with personality and therefore like automatons fall under the influence of gay ideas/forces (ideas are forces as they 'move' YOU see ideomotor theory) This is what I meant, tongue in cheek, about the gay raj. In any self respecting, honourable society if a male was found out to have 'gay sanskaars' then maybe a special place away from others could be made for them where they can eliminate this sanskaar and then continue on the path to human self-perfection. It is something undesirable in a Human Being akin to paedophilia or animal sex or excessive kaam, something which needs to be understood and then transformed into a more higher noble attribute. To normalise this tendency which is unbecoming to Human Beings as was said pure manmat, is to show a lack of compassion to others, by making stronger their own weaknesses and not helping them by uprooting these weaknesses.
