  1. You need Ahankar otherwise you'd be dead. Aham means I and Kara means to do. Ahamkar is the I-Maker, without this you can't act. The type of mukti where you have no ahamkaar means you are finished, gone. All Saints that help humanity have some Ahamkaar. Why are you villanising Ahamkaar he is our friend?? He just needs a friendly slap now and then. Using an iphone is a riddhi siddhi, using the internet is riddhi siddhi so is driving a car, the only difference with this guy is that his riddhi siddhi is internal whereas our riddhi siddhi's are external. Internal riddhi siddhis have to do with the power of magnetism, animal magnetism. Like a magnet you can attract forces. Franz Mesmer discovered this force and healed many people inthe 19th century but his ideas were subsequently ridiculed.Riddhi siddhi is advance Vigyaan- Science.
  2. I agree that all fundamentalists are stuck at the "Sharia" level, but instead of sharia we could use the word Opinion. We all form opinions about life, these are built upon a desire to believe in something, in some ideal. This is natural if it passes onto the next stage of Experiment, whereby in the laboratory of life, the opinions are tested with the implements of critical thought. This takes some courage as the 'opinions' may upon closer inspection be seen to be not what they were originally thought to have been. Faith in some ideal, belief or religion may be shaken, doubts may creep in but a person must proceed. This stage is one of reason and intellectual understanding, opinions are refined and made clearer through empirical observation. The final stage is Direct cognition - the result of mental analysis and testing in life becomes self-knowledge, a self truth that cannot be shaken - indestructible - as Self-knowledge is identical with Guruji. The extremist does not progress beyond step 1. At this step nothing is certain or fixed, it can become so only through long hard work on oneself, at step 3, this journey can be unpleasant and scary. The child mind refuses to undergo this initiation and clings onto opinions, beliefs and ideals. Even if these opinions are correct it doesn't matter as they do not belong to the person. So this person is always fearful that his opinions/ideals will be destroyed thus engages in destructive actions to prevent this perceived loss. The person at step 3 has no fear as his self-truth won through hard work cannot be lost.
  3. Dhan Guru Nanak Ji The word Daivik means from or of the Devas, it was believed that certain Devas influenced the destiny of Humans and through this influence the fate of a person was determined. So the word Daiva came to mean 'fate'. Thus Daivik dand came to mean general 'fate' and accidents of nature and negative social effects. This would include Raaj dand which is any punishment by the state/government for example a court case. Any external authority imposing restriction/anxiety upon an individual falls under Daivik dand, Pitr dand is more in the past i.e. inherited traits and Rishi dand in the future. Pitri dand is not just about procreation but also it is your inherited qualities and bodily form, if your ancestors misbehaved the punishment will be visited upon you: their progeny, this is another meaning of Pitri dand. Rishi dand is also related to Bhagti and Naam Jaap, in the 'future' a person who did not put effort into Bhagti will suffer from Rishi dand. Pitri and Rishi dand are unseen/atemporal forms of punishment whereas Daivik dand is seen/temporal punishment. Daivik dand can be financial difficulties, court cases, disrespect, depression, loneliness, oppression, war, starvation, natural disasters, seperation of loved ones etc. Rishi or Pitri punishments are different to the above class. For example through Pitri dand you may have a bent leg even though you may have honor in the world and much money but you still are stuck with having a bent leg. Dev dand does not exist as Devas are beneficent Beings and help Humans. What Dev dand refers to is imaginary gods that people started praying to and through force of habit created an independent thoughtform. The Brahmins started this trick of praying and worshiping imaginary gods, they made people do convoluted poojas to make money from them and when they did not do the pooja in a correct way the brahmins said that such a person would get dev dand. Dhan Guru Nanak Ji
  4. Vaikhri Bani is uttering Naam with your mouth causing vibration in your vocal chords and in surrounding air. The attention/dhyan is focused externally. Madhyama Bani is chanting softly localised in the throat area where your vocal chords are. It is called madhyama which means middle because attention/dhyan is half outer and half inner. The Naam vibration begins to go from outside to inside. Pasyanti Bani means seeing, this occurs in the heart, it is chanting Naam in the imagination. It is a visualisation that is internal - attention/dhyan is totally inner. The Naam vibration has passed the madhyama/middle and is now vibrating on the inner plane of imagination. As you carry on practicing, the Naam vibration begins to grow and cleans the imagination which has a lot of Sh*t in it. Para Bani is beyond everything it is Oankaar.
  5. Dhan Guru Nanak Ji, There is Pitr Dand, Daivik Dand and Rishi Dand. The meaning of dand is to punish or reprimand, normally for transgressing a law. Dand also means rod, which can symbolise power and sovereignty as a staff or sceptre - that can be used to mete out punishments. The three punishments above, may refer to three innate (not man made) laws in the universe that when opposed or flaunted will cause a 'danda' to fall on the transgressor's head. I believe they are related to the three Rna's(debts) of the same name. The first debt is to the ancestors. To fulfill this debt you must continue the family lineage - procreate, if you do not have children Pitr dand will be visited upon you and you will become dried up and miserable. The next debt is to nature or the earth we live on. If we do not live frugally, consume more than we need or hoard wealth and abuse our Mother Earth the Daivik Dand will occur. Which would be natural disasters, illness and disease in the body. Rishi Rna is the obligation we owe to our teachers, of whatever Dharam, if we do not follow the wise teachings of the enlightened Saints our buddhi/understanding will become diseased - Rishi Danda and as they say; Vinash Kale Vipreet Buddhi. On a more intrinsic level all mental actions that are incorrect and against harmonious relations become the seeds of Rishi dand. All emotional feelings that are incorrect cause Pitr dand. And incorrect bodily acts cause Daivik dand. If you really want to go deep into it we could link in Karma theory and how some forms of Dand are instantaneous or delayed akin to Sanchita, Prarabdha and Vartmaan karams. We could also find a way to destroy the seeds of future dand by doing appropriate actions now. Collectively amd individually. So danda is the inevitable result of transgressing a law in the Universe, it is impersonal (hand in fire=burn) and unseen. But strictly speaking the Law is not transgressed only an effect follows from a cause, it can be experienced as being transgressed if a person accepts that he must self develop: then, certain actions set up causes and effects that are harmful for self development.
  6. All Religion is a form of ignorance; to be coerced to behave in a particular way through some external force, that arbitrarily decides what is right and wrong, is ignorance. More accurately religion can be called a form of external morality, these are norms of behaviour for a certain time in a certain place, they change as the external society changes. This is what is seen as acceptable in our society, by our peers and elders. But as you pointed out not only religion has a morality even naastiks have morality so external morality can be religious or non-religious, but its common element is that it is imposed from the outside. I believe there to be an inner morality within an individual which can be called Conscience. This inner morality is the same for all Humanity regardless of caste or creed. The only problem is that the inner morality becomes covered up by a crust of imposed opinions and buried in the subconscious of the individual, where it languishes and has little opportunity to break into the light of waking consciousness.
  7. Astral plane is a junction point between the formless realms and realms of form. In the words of a Sufi master the 'place' where spirits are materialized and matter is spiritualised. It is called Astral because it is luminous like the stars; lucid dreaming is an experience on the Astral plane. In the physical body there is 'seed' of the astral body, this seed must be watered with the tears of suffering and given sustenance and heat by the Sun of tapasya or holy labour. And then another body can grow which can experience on the Astral plane which is also known as the plane of deception. Its symbol is the serpent. Which is why all Masters are shown with a Serpent overshadowing them because they have mastered the Astral plane. This shadowy realm is the only means of interaction Perfected beings have with imperfect beings perfect=formless imperfect=form.
  8. "In my dream i can see Jesus and Mohamad dressed as Nihangs who cares ?" Dream of deluded intellect is different to a true vision of a Seer.
  9. Music is against Islaam, Hazrat Mohammed had one Kaam, To hear Har Kirtan Amrit Naam, Now it is no longer Haraam, Chuk gaya musalmaan ka Bhraam!
  10. Science first makes a hypothesis, it then attempts to prove this hypothesis by experimentation. If the hypothesis proves to be observable and measurable, it becomes accepted as scientific truth. Until someone else can prove its falsity through the same method. If we leave aside the fact of large corporations bribing scientists, science must always be continuously updated therefore the only constant is the scientific method itself. Which is itself an *idea* not itself accountable to scientific method. The *idea* of the scientific method is accountable to a different disciple called 'metaphysics'. This name signifies 'above nature' or the subject of 'principles of order above the changing principle'. Or in Indian terms the knowledge of the effects of Purusha on Prakriti. (Experimental science only deals with Prakriti). This knowledge has traditionally been the domain of religion. Modern science has refused to accept this knowledge and calls it mumbo-jumbo. Religion as the repository of the knowledge of the 'Effects of Purusha on Prakriti' is not limited to a subjective emotional experience but stands above all mundane knowledge and creates order within it. By mundane knowledge is meant history, politics etc.
  11. Mother and Wife are both Prakriti (Maya) or the Prima Materia. From the Mother the Son is born, who is abstract Intelligence, he plans creation. Prakriti then Generates the father Brahma. From this Plan, the Father who is Brahma, creates the World with his wife Maya. This is Pravritti Marg. After the Pravritti creation The Son takes Maya to be his bride and makes Nivritti Marg.
  12. Many Thanks to the creator of the website, it is a very valuable resource for individuals who wish to take their health in their own hands and wish for long term sustainable improvements in place of short term unsustainable improvements (western medicine). Please keep up the good work, many people are now understanding the benefits of working in harmony with nature, instead of against Her.
  13. The idea of the Paraclete in orthodox Christianity (and Islam) is analogous to the idea of Baseeth in Gurbani, as an intercessor or a go-between for two parties.
  14. This is a confused statement. A person's Dharma is related to his or her Varna, so a Brahmin who gains knowledge is acting in accordance with his Dharam. You seem to be using the word Dharam to mean intrinsic religion, which does relate to outer societal duties. Is there any historical precedence for using the word in this sense or did you just decide to use it in this way? And do not call me an imbecile again otherwise we can terminate this exchange of views.
  15. - The Sat Guru Ji's aim was to bring a Human Being into harmony with his creator. - To achieve this end it does not matter what caste you belong or your social status. - The negation of caste is not social engineering. Revolution of society is not the primary aim of Sikhi; it may, or may not come about as a side effect. - Any society, even ours under a different name, from the foundation of civilization in Babylon, had a caste system or a system of social stratification, where some people were higher and had authority over others. - This system has always been abused due to the egotistic nature of human beings. - This is only true for Seekers of Truth who wish to walk on the path to become a Gurmukh. - The Bhagats and The Guru Ji's accepted their roles in the caste system and society. - Dalsingh you are mixing up categories and imposing categories of thought that are metaphysical onto mundane affairs. - The Holy Guru Ji's stated that to worship Brahm the All, you should not be restricted by caste or gender. - Sikhi was originally a mystical fraternity, not an attempt to create beneficial social conditions for Humankind. Satguru Sri Baba Nanak Ji actually cursed a village of good people and destroyed their society in order for them to spread around the land and spread their goodness. - The main aim of the Guru ji's was not social betterment it was something else. Therefore casteism is a non-issue, it will always be, learn to live with it. - I believe this to be incorrect. - Historically the Guru Ji's created communities of Seekers of Truth united by an aim to reach the font of creation. - Each Sikh was instructed to live a healthy social life: Family, Work etc. - Please tell me Dalsingh where was this social life to occur? - Obviously it must occur within the 'caste' system prevalent at the time. - During worship or Langer this caste system would be annulled and a common unity and aim would bring different castes together. - Therefore Sikhi cannot represent a new dispensation of societal structure. Sikhi will always be embedded in the society it is part of. It does not form the rules of everyday life. Nor does it overtly and forcibly seek to change them. It may change them through subtler means, which the Holy Guru Ji's foresaw, i.e. effects caused by worship in a Sangat may cause certain changes in the atmosphere and may cause societal changes.
  16. Dalsingh, reading bani has chemical effects in the body. If you know how sensitive an organism the human body is you will understand that the release of a few micrograms of chemical hormones can change a persons consciousness. Modern medicine is beginning to understand the psycho-somatic causes of illness and well-being. If you try to understand the word Vir-Rasa you may develop some understanding of how the mechanism works, which understanding, by your comments, seems to be lacking in you. Vir means brave person, warrior and also semen. It is connected to our word Virility which we have by way of latin. Rasa is juice or essence. In this case the juices are the fluids and chemical essences flowing through our body. So our 10th Guru carried out 'scientific' researches as to what combinations of words and evocation of emotions would increase this chemical Rasa in our human body. Without this basis in the chemical make-up of the human body no amount of training in arms or knowledge would compensate.
  17. Dharam comes from the root Dha, which means that which is established and is firm, usually referring to a set of laws. Laws form the basis of any society, they are the foundations on which society is built. By analogy any act that is that is produced in the world has its Dharam or its foundation. For example a painter before painting a picture forms the idea of the picture in his mind, this is the Dharam or the basis of the picture that may be produced. At this stage there is no form or body just a seed idea. Arth, the next stage, according to the dictionary means; cause, motive, reason, utility and also wealth, property and money. The Dharam has been founded the foundation of the act has been laid. Now the general direction and aim of the act is formed. A general form is created that will act as a direction for the act to take. As in the painters example after forming the basic idea of his painting now the form begins to come into shape in the mind. As wealth and money can cause things to be done, built etc, at this stage energy comes in to build on the foundations of dharam. Kaam is desire or an enlivening desire, a something that causes life to perpetuate itself. This is where a strong desire to give external form to the idea occurs. To give birth, to reproduce the essence of the idea in a defined solid form. This is where the painter passionately wants to reproduce his painting he has in his mind on the canvas. Moksh or mukti means the repaying of an obligation as when one pays back a loan. This stage represents a payment back to Dharam for actualising the idea on the physical plane. As when a painter has completed his painting he is released from the idea and has payed back Dharamraj and is free from the idea. So until certain acts are not completed as were laid down in the Dharam stage Mukti is not possible, there is no shortcut.
  18. The reason people pray to Ganesh Ji is that he can cause problems and obstacles in life. He is the embodiment of tark or logic and critical thought. Which is why he rides a mouse, a mouse can cut through things with its sharp teeth. Similarly with logic you can cut through arguments and destroy them. This cutting and destroying makes Ganesh ji a dangerous divinity so special ceremonies and sacrifices were made to Him to please him so that his sharp nature would not cut through the ideas or arguments underlying the beginning of any venture. His two wives were Siddhi and Buddhi which meant he controlled the means of obtaining any desire and the choosing of a wise desire. He controls these means because He is Gana (troop, host, number) + Isha (lord).
  19. Legend has it that before Time came into existence, in a certain place a Mahapurush had residence. The Mahapurush decided to have a Son. The only way to create a Son was through Sacrifice and Sacrificial rites. So for a 1000 years the Mahapurush sacrificed. As he Sacrificed a doubt crept into his mind, as to whether this Sacrifice would be successful. From this doubt sprung forth a Son whose name was Agyaan. Before the doubt had crept in, the Sacrifice had actually been a success, so the Son he wanted was also born, His name was Gyaan. Because Agyaan was the eldest he was given Kingship over the existing world which was the whole Universe. So the Mahapurush said that to govern the Universe you will need a family, so he married Agyaan to Avidya and Gyaan to Vidya. So ignorance/avidya arose from the Real but it was a thought about something non-existent. So it is both real and unreal. If you look directly at the sun's light you become blind, but if you look at something where the sun's light is reflected you can see. So for the Universe to exist ignorance has to be made first, in order to embody non-existence, and as a body to reflect the light of the Unmanifest God, So God can see Himself. But the first Cosmic Ignorance is immaterial, only successive emanations create dense physical matter. This drama is reflected in Humans and Human race. But in Humans the false personality is agyaan/avidya and the true Self is Gyaan. In the Universe Gyaan and Agyaan are balanced but for Humans there is imbalance towards Agyaan.
  20. 1. Youth always decreases 2. Age always increases 3. The Moon 4. The Sun ----------------------- 1. Dharam always decreases 2. Adharam always increases 3. Informational/outer Knowledge 4. Spiritual/self Knowledge
  21. Forget what i wrote above. I just found out that Raam after killing Ravan has to do Shiv Pooja to rid himself of the paap of Brahmin Hatya. So Ravan et al. were Brahmins. But even after admitting this fact I still see a chink in the armour of Mr Chatanga's argument. I do not see how Brahmin and Rakshash are mutually exclusive. If Prahlaad a demon can be a Bhagat then why cannot a rakshash be a Brahmin. As Bhai Gurdas says the Kul was Rakshash. Kul means family. tribe, race or community. Jaat means hereditary or what one is born into. So the Rakshash could be a race or a community made up of Brahmins Kshatriya etc. Therefore Ravana is Rakshash Kul and Brahmin jaat. I think that must vindicate Bhai Gurdas, if any doubt as to how such a creature as a Brahmin Rakshash could exist please allow the omniscient wikipedia to allay any doubts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahmarak%E1%B9%A3asa
  22. I am not sure that they were of a Brahmin family. Their progenitor was the Rishi Pulastya which means smooth-hair, Rsi Pulastya was a Son of Brahma and known as a Prajapati. A Prajapati is an intermediate creator of beings, an in-forming active intelligence if you like. Even though they were the offspring of Brahma they were not really part of the Brahmin caste. Because Rsi Pulastya is the father of the Rakshash kul in a metaphysical sense not physical, much like if a put my ideas about a subject into a book I can call that book my son because I have created it. So even though Pulastya was a Son of Brahma he ideated or created the Rakshash Jati. So he is their metaphysical father he did not create through physical coopulation. The Hindu geneaologies are allegorical and not purely a one dimensional historical narrative. So Bhai Gurdas is correct in calling Ravana and his brother Rakshash .
  23. Thanks to N30 for this stimulating vichaar. This reminds me of a story of Bhagat Naamdev and his brother who followed gyaan marg. They began to argue one day as to which path was the best; Gyaan or Bhakti. To resolve their dispute they devised a test: a pearl was thrown into a deep well, this pearl had to be lifted out of the well through their respective powers. First Bhagat Naamdev's brother tried the test. Through his Gyaan, he went into his suksham sareer and took the pearl out of the well. He said to Bhagat Naamdev "respected brother now it is your turn". Naamdev began to do Kirtan with so much vairaag and prem the water in the well became enamoured with desire and welled up to the top and deposited the pearl. Advait marg is equivalent to *I* mixed with Thou Bhakti marg is equivalent to *Thou* mixed with I Advait/Gyaan marg is that of the World in God. Bhakti Marg is that of God in the World. The Gyaani says the Ocean is in the drop, whereas the Bhagat says the drop is dissolved in the Ocean. Gurmat blends both Advait and Bhagti, both I and Thou, into a 3rd Way which I call the Transformation Marg. Which is represented in the priceless Gurbani as turning Manas into Devtay. This is a crystallisation of good qualities which makes a permanent change in spiritual constitution of a Human Being. Both Gyaan and Bhagti are used to make this change. In this context the word Devta means perfected Man. A gyaani goes into Nirvikalp samadhi and is gone forever and a Bhagat goes into Mahanand and gets lost forever. In Gurmat the Man retains his individuality but mediates between God and Earth as a Devta. A bhagat and gyaani are selfish whereas the Gurmukh sacrifices his/her own bliss to help others progress. Gyaan is used by him to destroy evil sanskaars or impressions on his mind and to replace them with good ones, and Bhagti is used to channel outer desires into joy.
  24. The 4 stages may be Shariat(Dharam), Tariqat(Kaam), Haqiqat(Arth) and Marifat(Moksh). Shariat means to follow the laws of morality that surround you when you are growing up as a young adult. This means family customs and also the law of the land you live in. It corresponds to Dharam or Dharma in its lower sense. And most importantly it means not to speak bad about anyone or think bad about anyone. Tariqat means the way or method which a person uses to locate the true essence of things. This stage occurs when a person has fulfilled his duties to the world and has a desire to see something different. This way or method may be spiritual excercises, reading prayers, simran, self-awareness, donating to the poor etc. This stage is the same as Kaam because at this stage a desire for something otherworldly springs up in the heart. Haqiqat means Gyaan or wisdom or truth. A person through following a certain Tariqa attains the truth by faith in his practice and perseverance. This is the same as gaining Siddhi or gaining Arth (remember the Buddha's name was SiddhArtha) This person now has knowledge of the essence of things, he sees things in reality and not in illusion. He is not hypnotised by the outer world so can use his acquired Gyaan for accomplishing missions in the world (Artha) for the benefit of others. Marifat means Sehaj Avastha, Turya Avastha, it is the same as Moksh. It is beyond Mind. It occurs when a person becomes totally humiliated and annihilated before God. Also bear in mind these stages are not discrete seperate stages but interpenetrate each other. Shariat also equals Sleep(Tamas), Tariqat = Dreams(Rajas), Haqiqat = Waking(Sattva), Marifat= Turiya
