Hello,
I have had the reverse experience in the last year or two. Met a lot of newcomers from Punjab through work young guys and girls. All of them Sikh some amritdarhi. One day I decided let’s have a bbq so called them all over but to my surprise all of them refused to eat meat because it was a Tuesday. When I asked why? They said they are lighting Jot for Devi and refrain from meat on tuesdays.
Sure enough they had a massive shrine dedicated to Durga at home while lighting a jot every morning.
I sarcastically asked all of them one day “ Are you bahman or me?”
You may want to share this - particularly at the start - with the new comers..the answers are well set out

Hey bro I’m Punjabi belong to sikh family I been hearing on YouTube quora few more other website the thing I don’t understand guru Nanak patshah exposes Hinduism big time why would he even read veda or copy stuff from veda he bring dhur ki bani to this world for us my question is Krishna avatar(6000 years ago) puran it's already mention about diffrent world which was also mention in Guru Granth Sahib ji later (553 years) on as lakha te aakash ne, te lakha te paatala ne
This question and answer exchange can easily degenerate.
To possibly prevent that from happening and to answer the question you asked read Bhai Gurdas - or Guru Gobind Singhs Bachitar Natak (which explains why he had to take birth) and the answer will be clear. Else, you will spend your time in vivaad and reach nowhere.
Once you have done that, dive into Gurbani and the number of pearls you will be able to accumulate are only limited by your sincerity of purpose and effort combined with Vahigurus bakshish.
That might mean staying away from miscellaneous you tube channels and Quora etc...are you ready for the challenge?

This is not Gurbani - it is a shalok of Bhagat Kabir that Guru Arjan Dev Badshah did not include in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
I would use the salok mahalla 2 from Asa Ki Vaar to highlight this same idea - Jeah Sau Chandaa Ugveah, Sooraj Chareah Hazaar, eta chanan hodhian Gur Bin Ghor Andhar..

Anyone interested in Bhagti suggest to watch this video series by S. Hardial Singh, founder of Sarab Rog Ka Aukhad Naam Mission.
Proper way to recite, listen Gurbani, Naam Simran.
This is not your typical Masala-Filled Kathas that are typically avail on youtube.com .
S. Hardial Singh has been blessed with Nadar. Nadar is a special grace by the Guru.
Absolutely agree...
Reached 7/ out of the 52 videos that he has posted and the journey so far has been told in an amazing manner - very structured and simple..with the why and how clearly explained...thanks for sharing

The complete story on this has been narrated by Bhai Kultar Singh in this 4 minute video clip. The ending is very interesting

To save viewers time, you can start listening at 7 minutes - before that is a ramble not connected to the subject. Core ideas are what one has heard before - start with degh, maintain sucham for 40 days..nothing new in that..what i find new (and never heard before) is the suggestion to sit in a front of a portrait of guru sahib and do this 40 day jaap for a particular objective...personally i would never do a jaap in front of a picture of Guru Sahib...

Sir, when you do not agree with the other side, it is disrespectful to restate your argument. Shouting your point by writing in Caps makes it worse.
My position is unchanged and you are welcome to yours.
Over six decades of my life, I have always wondered where these deras came up from? In the 70s and 80s when I was growing up, all these deras were non existent or at the periphery of thought and no one paid attention to them...the universal pyaar for Sikhee subsumed all these so called differences in observations which later started being talked about as different "maryadas' to give them a veneer of respectability. Post Bluestar, through state patronage and otherwise, they have mushroomed to break Sikhs from Bani and tangle them up in their maryadas.
The only purpose of these deras, as I see them, is to misguide the people and give them such an injection, that love for Sikhee and love for humanity is secondary to love for "their" maryada and their "babajee" who travels in an SUV with a guard of twenty well built people...using sangats money....the sadhus and sants I have grown up with, never built any deras, some didn't even build a hut for themselves ...yet they could change you inside out when you met them..
Bhai Vir Singh, an ordinary Sikh with no dera and no guards influenced more people into Sikhee than any of these derawadis put together. He did not set any maryada. Don't take my word for it, hear how he changed Prof Puran Singh from being a bhagvaa Sadhu to taking Khande De Pahul...how he changed katar Arya Samajis into Sikhs just by speaking to them...by watching the series below. The fragrance of Sikhee is that of a rose which does not announce, much less shout about its presence,...but we all love the smell when we are around it.
If you still disagree, I respect your views but don't agree with them...

One of the meanings of Amrit is Naam.

When I asked you to quote a pankti from Gurbani which supports Brahmgyani giving naam, you replied given as above. To that, I replied,
*******************
In the first pankti, it doesn't say that Brahmgyani can give naam. With the sight or glance of Brahmgyani, one receives amrit varkha (kirpa) of guru sahib to go on the right path.
In second pankti, guru sahib says one receives nine treasures by meditating on naam. One receives everything when one japs naam.
Bhul chuk maaf

Please can you get meanings of the panktis you quoted from any teekas of Panthic Accepted Scholars?

Bhai Trimandeep Singh jee,
If you recall, I have already conveyed to you the title of a very big gyani. However, that does not give you a blanket license to restate your positions, which you have read about and may or may not internalized, to score debating points.
Pyaar is an important concept of bhakti - all bhakts reached to the levels where their banis were included in Guru Sahib because of their devotion to Vahiguru. You are perennially arguing using quotes from very respected Bhai Randhir Singh (whom my elders have met and interacted with), yet you are unable to grasp the love that he had for Gursikhs...when they would be coming to Narowal (where he stayed) he would do kirtan from his house to the station on foot and welcome them back home. His love for Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh of Damdami Taksal was legendary. Does your writing convey the fragrance of the same pyaar for others on the forum? (Ask yourself and keep that answer to yourself.)
All I see is debate and sticking to ones position - this is all vivaad - a path that goes nowhere because there is no respect for the other point of view, and no atmic gyaan for the formula you are repeating all the time ...the hukamnamas from Gurbani that Guru Sahiban got from Akal Purakh after a lot bhakti and in response to a specific question or thought are bandied about in debates without context...just to prove ones own point..
This debate is the bane of all groups which pushes away genuine seekers ...this group has been relatively immune to this vivaad and allow me to request you to go offline for some days or directly write to the other posters, introspect and then consider next steps.
You have in the past agreed to do so but sadly have not implemented it..may I request you now once again with folded hands to take a break and start treating Gurbani with respect and not use it to score debating points.
A rose does not need to announce its fragrance. I am sure you can teach us with your fragrance in due course...
Thank you for your consideration.

The same bani also says
Simrit Sastra Punn Paap Beechaarde Tathe Saare Na Jaani
[The Vedas discriminate between good and evil but don't know the essence of reality]
Tatai Saar Na Jaani Guru Bajau Tatai Saar Na Jaani
[Without the true guru they can't know the essence of reality]
We grant it to you that you are the biggest gyani in the panth - quick with your retorts using Gurbani out of context.
Can you please bless us with silence on this matter for a few days at least, if not in perpetuity. Humble request with folded hands.
We are not used to such kind of discussions on this forum...this is a peaceful learning place where practitioners are humble enough to share their experiences to help guide others attempting to walk on this path.

I may not seem correct but these are not my vichar but those of tyar bar tyar sarblohi gursikhs.
They say that a non amritdhari shouldn't chant naam as one gets naam from Guru roop Panj pyaare only. This video will answer your question. Also, you should do lots of abhyaas of bani than naam.

All streams which disconnected from the river, try and prove their superiority to main river, even though they are insignificant compared to the rivers vastness.
Please note that no matter what we chose to describe ourselves as, we have no clue about the bakshish of Guru Sahib and the vastness of his heart....the foundation of any path to Guru Sahib is pyaar (love and affection for the Guru) not exclusivity to a path. Yes, following a disciplined rehat and Guru Sahibs hukams is extremely important as it shows our devotion to the Guru, but to state the we are Sar**** Sikhs or abc/exyz sikhs is disturbing as it shows exclusivity and attempts to put us at a higher pedestal to the others - which our Guru is never happy with.
Even we cannot claim that we are Sikhs..its only when Guru Sahib accepts us a Sikh do we become Sikhs. Till such time we are just on the path to him...a path that is arduous requiring self effort and not a womb lottery to be born in a sikh family.

This is an absolutely brilliant capture of all the noise generated in the last few days on this from a simple question of a humble seeker. The ones making the most noise will drown the seekers query and if I were him (as I was in the 90s), be left thoroughly confused.
For the seeker and the original querist - take Guru Gobind Singhs hukam and Bhai Gurdas's vaar as your north star to guide you. Guru Gobind Singh Sahibs hukam is - jin prem keeo tin prabh payeo (tvay prasad savaiey- those who have love in their hearts for the Akal Purakh have found him) while Bhai Gurdas motivates us by saying that if we take one step towards Vahiguru, he takes millions of steps to reach us...

1) Correct about the Maryada of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. I don't know what you mean by "dera", however I would trust the words of a pooran brahmgyani over the words of some scholar who studied history books and decided that "this" is the maryada of Guru Gobind Singh ji. You should be careful when you say "dera".
2) Sikhs in Armies over the world during special operation do wear helmets, for example you can see several pics of Harjit Sajjan who is the defence minister of Canada and you can see pictures of UK soldiers too wearing helmets.
3) Agreed with you on the income of tobacco and alcohol - I am not involved in this at all, but it was a question as some sikhs do here -- they are owners of motels, convience stores that sell these products a lot.
Best of Luck !
Well understood. Thanks
I hope you are aware that the pooran Bhramgyani never built a structure wherever he did bandgi, in fact he destroyed the hut where he stayed before moving on to another location. His "followers" built all these structures and this maryada that you referred to.
Also do remember that a Brahmgyani does not have the power to make another person a Brahmgyani - that is only with Vahiguru and Guru Granth Sahib our guru...so while all sadhus with kamayee are to be respected our connect should only be with our Guru not with a sadhu.

Sikh - wearing helmet allowed or not as part of mandatory work requirement. Would like to know opinion based on Nanaksar Maryada.
Also, like to know opinion on work environment which involves selling non-veg and other bad products as we know how it is in the west. For example someone working in a grocery store where you have a lot of anti-maryada products.
The Maryada of a Sikh is what Guru Gobind Singh blessed us with. Period. He did not give any dera any option to amend it. So please be careful in your choice of words.
Sikhs in the UK have fought and won the war to wear turbans instead of helmets at work. I don't know where you stay, but remember the Sikhs fought both World Wars with turbans, not helmets.
Finally, deriving income from alcohol or tobacco will impact your kamayee and your spiritual advancement.

Among the many paths, the Bhakti Marg, is the wisdom by which one realizes Him
Below is an example, out of his numerous lovers
Beautiful thoughts - and a very accomplished sadhu...The mool mantar given to Guru Nanak Sahib by the Akal Purakh states clearly that you can only reach him through GurParsad...we need to love the Guru first..through his bani and their history when in human form....once our devotion to Guru Sahib is complete..he will take us to Vahiguru...at the end of this video, it states that one must develop ecstatic love for God - to my limited understanding, one must develop this love for Guru Nanak sahib in various jamas and let Guru Nanak sahib take us forward from there....my limited basic understanding of Gurmat..correct me and forgive me if I have erred in understanding our Gurus path..
