  1. actually the NHS and probably other country's health organisations cheated and lied. A lot of people died from other causes, but positive covid results were added on falsely. I am unsure what the benefits for doing this were, but it must be some monetary corruption.
  2. buy some equipment from Argos, they have good deals going on at the moment. Also get some kettlebells, or desi clubs are event better. I am currently using the dumbells and barbell I got from Argos a few years ago. They come with plastic weights, but I have added on metal weights which I obtained later. I use the kettlebells for desi type exercises as well as the random squat here and there. The pandemic and and remote working has enabled me to workout more regularly. Which reminds me, my barbell has been in the garage for over a year, I need to bring it inside to my office room.
  3. I heard it was also used as a quick way for Nihang Singhs to marry as well. Maybe there were circumstances for this?
  4. The worst thing is they don't stop at raagmala, most of these so-called gursikhs also ignore the end of Benti Chaupai and also skip Arril, then make pathetic excuses for skipping these. Look how these troublemakers have confused the innocent sangat!!! I think SGPC and some jathebandis promote this grave Bhasauria corruption of benti chaupai bani! See below link for chaupai sahib mental gymnastics: What is the correct length of Chaupai Sahib? | Frequently Asked Questions about Akhand Kirtani Jatha (akjfaq.com)
  5. I have heard of these things happening in Dals, Deras (not first-hand accounts) etc, basically in places where a lot of males are together and these abuses happen. There are a lot of problems with people in sikh community marrying late, totally messed up behaviour and abuses, it is also affecting people in their sikhi. The behaviour from the last few decades suggests that many people should still be married before their 20s, just like it was a few generations ago.... so the tutor became your friend, or are these 2 different people? From what I have read, women are attracted to men differently from how men are attracted to women. Men are more attracted to looks, while many women are attracted to things like status and personality! For example Prime Minister Boris Johnson ! I reckon it can. It seems to be implied this happens in jails, so when the other gender is unavailable some people can't seem to control themselves.
  6. was it this forum, or sikhsangat, where sukha singh made an account just to respond to some kind of allegation many, many years ago? Maybe someone can find the post?
  7. What do Mahapurkhs beside Tarmala say? I went to naam simran session by Bhai Ajit Singh few years ago and it was very angry and aggressive!
  8. So this whole thread, what does that mean for most modern styles of keertan performed by keertanis? Isn't most of the keertan we hear "bhangra" keertan, as opposed to Raag. And especially one jatha comes to mind, their so-called keertan is really dancy, like people in the sangat are rocking their heads front and back and side-to-side, and the keertanis are trying to be like rockstars? Is most of keertan not performed in Raag bringing sangat into this mentality anyway, into bhangra/gidha mentality, or dare I say most modern keertan styles came from bhangra/gidha manmatt? Isn't a big fix to bhangra/gidha actually performing raag keertan? At the moment, both harmonium keertan and modern bhangra/punjabi music tunes are sub-par compared to the standard set by Guru jis playing Raag keertan using the instruments Guru jis provided to us, instruments which the panth seems to have just thrown to the side... Since there is so much manmatt towards sikh keertan, this topic should not be surprising at all....
  9. yeh I lost a lot of simran practise and sitting in asan due to working shifts usually longer than 9-5. I recently finished a contract at work during this pandemic lockdown, so I am trying to get some of it back!
  10. sarbloh.info is a really informative site. I think this thread works as a good associative thread. it is nice the website has still survived whereas many other sites have come and gone, including many mentioned in this topic. Just bumping this thread into 2021. I hope sarbloh website gets converted so we can see the pictures again, as currently it is stuck in Flash which is now obsolete.
  11. I have created a new post on reddit. since I don't really have time to moderate on reddit, I have just posted links to this forum. This way people on reddit can view the topics and at the same they can click on links to view the threads on sikhawareness site. This is how it looks, I don't really have much time to edit the posts properly, but any suggestions let me know.
  12. Waheguru. Just remembered this thread because someone posted on r/sikh Reddit

  14. Also some nice links in this thread: yeh so do I, I just love it!
  15. Just posting this up to make it easier for sikhs to find out about how we are meant to celebrate Navratri and Dusshera. There is actually something similar for Diwali as well where Dasvin 10th Patshah actually uses the word 'Diwali'! Hopefully I will find it before Diwali. https://www.facebook.com/652447751445011/photos/navratri-and-dushera-are-days-to-do-shastra-puja-the-nine-nights-of-naurate-star/995158367173946/ The nine nights of Naurate, started this year on October 12th, and go to the 22th. The tenth day, which is today, will be Dusshera, marking the date when Ram Chandra destroyed the Demon Ravan. Celebrations for Dusshera happen at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, Paonta Sahib, and Chamkaur Sahib. The tradition for Navratari is in a passage from Suraj Prakash Granth where Guru Gobind Singh Ji commands his Singhs to conduct the seva worship of shastra. Below is a passage from Gurbilas Patshahi 10, a historical book written in 1751 CE by Kuir Singh mainly dealing with the life of Guru Gobind Singh: "ਆਜ ਨੁਰਾਤਾ ਆਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਰੋ । ਪੂਜ ਕਰੋ ਸਬ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਿਕਾਰੋ " ॥੧੩॥ [Guru Gobind Singh Ji stated] "Observe the first day of Nurate, worship and take out all of your weapons." Listening to the words [of the Guru] the Khalsa ran to bring back weapons and do worship of them. In the last period of the night they [the Khalsa]awoke, and started to worship Kalika. All the [Guru's] servants came to [Takht] Kesgarh Sahib, and lit incense, lamps and offered food. After they would offer rice and flowers toward Kalika, taking the Amrit from the Feet of the Guru and waving the wisk [over the weapons]. The stories of the Devi were recited from the Guru's mouth, reading the praises [of the Devi] everyone's mind was left in bliss. On the ninth day of Naurate the worship continued, then came the [tenth day] Dusshera. ... All of the weapons were gathered and placed on high platforms. All around whisks were being waved and incense was being lit, "Jai Jag Maat" [Victory to the Mother of the World] was being recited from everyone's mouth. [On Dusshera] the beautiful Ramayana text was recited from everyone's mouth. [During the celebrations] goat's and buffalo's were being sacrificed. The battle drums and battle standards were also being worshiped during this time. Bansavalinama written in 1769 CE by Kesar Singh Chibber also mentions the celebrating of Dusshera. On the days of Dusshera, worship your weapons. From your mouths you should recite the scriptures of Chandi. [Worship your weapons by using] lots of Incense, Gee-lamps, flowers and nice fragrances. [Use] Saffron, Sandalwood and a Wisk to wave [above your weapons]. The tradition of celebrating Dusshera continues today in the Sikh tradition followed by most noteably the Budha Dal Nihung Sikhs and Takht Hazur Sahib, who recite Chandi Chritars and Chandi Di Vaar, along with Raam-avatar [a section from Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib which deals with the life story of Ram Chandra] and a pothi called Dusshera Mahatam, which is a pothi with various shabads in it dealing with the occasion.
  16. since this thread has been brought back.. I am wondering the importance of khanday dee pahul for Nirmalay The original 5 Nirmala sikhs were Singhs right, but were exempt from some rehit such as shastar due to the circumstances? However, we are no longer in those circumstances, so do Nirmala Singhs keep some shastar rehit, such as keeping the basic kirpaan? I read about a historical incident where some Nirmala Singhs got beaten up by Nihangs, because these Nirmalay weren't wearing their kakkars. Also can someone join Nirmalas without taking Khanday dee Pahul, or would someone take Pahul to become a member of a Nirmala ashram or Akhara (is akhara an appropriate term)? Are there Nirmala groups which don't take pahul anymore? I read in history that the King of Patiala made Nirmalas take Pahul when creating an organisation or jathebandi for them, which seemed to point at them not taking mandatory Khanday dee Pahul before that? Also I do know that Singhs used to switch between Nirmala and Nihang sampradaiye now and then, probably still happens. Also did Nirmala Singhs attend Sarbat Khalsa organised by the Dal Khalsa, how would Nirmala Singhs have been viewed after Khalsa was organised into Budha Dal and Tarna Dal by Nawab Kapur Singh?
  17. there is a huge musical tradition in sikhi. follow this channel to watch some videos: https://www.youtube.com/theMardanaProject also follow these channels to find out about more sikh traditions and books available: https://www.youtube.com/c/AmardeepSinghSingapore/videos (especially good to see sikh traditions outside punjab) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxBL1NDvSTanpwGQbRAkQlA (a lot of history discussed and more books referenced)

  20. unsure why your link goes to a different news story. just trying to post the link again: https://www.timesnownews.com/india/article/shaurya-chakra-and-commanding-officer-of-rafale-s-elite-17-squadron-who-is-group-captain-harkirat-singh/628878#:~:text=Shaurya Chakra and Commanding Officer,India News
  21. Definitely look at redesigning the layout. I think the button links on the top that include Nanak Naam and sikhi in snippets, they need to stand out a bit more - maybe change the colours of the buttons slightly so they are more visible. Also the number of sections or Forums could be overwhelming for some, so maybe make this front section more compact so they can be viewed more easily. Also when we are scrolling through a thread, I think we can make this section more compact. Although being wide allows more information per line, I really think it will be a good idea to compact the comment section, it will look more clean instead of long lines going across. Also will allow it to be easier to scroll down the page, and just allows easier reading. People will be using smartphones more to access content these days, especially the youth and also sikhs in India, so it is very important to look at the mobile interface. So I looked at the mobile layout. As soon as I scroll down to Forums section the colours are very light so makes it difficult for anything to stand out. The colours and font are different to the desktop site, that is why it doesn't stand out as much. Still in mobile layout, I think the font in threads is too faint. I was looking at websites like Facebook and Reddit to see how the fonts are more readable on mobile, so maybe use some similar fonts to those. Also, I think it's a very good idea to have a mobile app for the site, it can just be a wrapper which allows you to view the site inside a browser in the app. Anyone could probably do this actually. Also I think we need a way to share topics and threads to social media like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit, by having a button available. Also for the pictures section a way to maybe share to Instagram and other social media.
