  1. Above is good advice. Would an intervention or referral to mental health services be something to consider (which could simultaneously tackle substance misuse)? Here are some good links to services: http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/drugs/Pages/caring-for-a-drug-user.aspx http://www.talktofrank.com/ http://www.gamcare.org.uk/forum?f=20 http://gamanon.org.uk/

  4. V true Its crazy! People are like sheep. Everyone needs some group to cling to lol When there's too many Sikhs in one area, they become very divisive.
  5. i found this news article to be SO funny ! Not eating halal is haraam but the term "loon haraami" means nothing to some people lol

sadly, most of the western world (probably rest of it too?) seems to have died a death of conscience. We have become drones....

  9. Singh no doubt being out of work is hard. It demotivates and bums people. But thats the time you gota take charge and take responsibility of your life and your destiny. If someone wont offer you work, find it. There are many less professional jobs that can be done until you find your feet again Career-wise. Gain new skills that are more in demand. Muster up the courage and set up your own business. Something with less set-up costs. Make this a long-term project. Bro without divulging my personal life on here, believe me I've been kicked down a lot harder and lower than most people I come across. We all have doubts until we accept it is our own shortcomings in not being stronger, bolder, smarter and walking the walk by carrying ideas through to completion. GurKirpaa i've turned this around. 3/5 major life steps taken and Guru Maharaj is supporting me through each one.
  10. received this email, just thought i'd share it:
  11. Good post as this is a real problem. Capitalism has ironically sorted it out in the west as women are equal breadwinners. Awareness and non patronizing education needed
  12. nice post Mithar. birthright & social status means little to the soul. it is our efforts that bear fruit in dharma. let the world continue in its illusion, but we should be attached & anchored to that which is permanent, eternal & truthful.
  13. Lot of nice ideas & potential improvements for the next generation to think about.. N30 i like that Lotus idea. it reminded me of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's throne: V&A museum
  14. I know Dailjit Singh quite well. It's nice there are people like him who do a lot of itehasik research on Sikhee and its thanks to him that Baba Sangh Gurdwara have consistently ensured Mahapursh like Baba Jagjit Singh Harkhowal & others regularly did darshan and were provided for. i can see the point on both sides. 12yrs ago when i was a kid, i was into khalistan. nowadays i dont hold those views & mix with every1. there are a large body of people - Hindus and indeed Sikhs who have an agenda of promoting sikhee like buddhism under the heading of sanatan dharma. zulu we've both heard people like Niddar Singh say "i meet with RSS members". this doesn't help the paranoia LoL on the other hand, there is a lot of commonality between sikh dharma and sanatan dharma & we shouldnt seek to shun this crucial aspect of our faith & history. p.s. i dont have an ID on that forum anymore as its full of nutters :-D
  15. Nice poetry! Especially the response. It may have been satirical, may not, who knows? We need dollars, the more the better! but shouldn't be slaves to it or the system. rather, be that which they detest most, rich in every way spiritually, temporally, financially, altruistically and tyaar bar tyaar to look them in the eye.. :-)
  16. FT is a news source that i'd expect british sikhs to have also approached. At least american sikhs got together & formed SALDEF as a sikh media watchdog but there isnt really an equivalent in the UK/Europe is there? we should get something started
  17. he was a charismatic figurehead but there wasnt one guy pulling the strings like in a dictatorship. this isnt the kill that saddam was. they've killed an evil old man after a decade hunting him, but the ideology and the methods are widespread. plenty sikhs have died as a result of both sides of the conflict. i only hope our community learns how to deal with the media and the ill effects of western capitalism on one hand whilst ensuring our way of life on the other.
  18. i think his song 'Jogiya' that promoted deray is referred to on his wikipage: http://en.wikipedia....iki/Gurdas_Maan http://khundcharcha....04/gurdas-mann/ i think he also banned anyone wearing kirpans from attending his concert in canada: http://thelangarhall...-concert-again/ he defines himself as a jatt, but not sure if he is sikh? in order to be a successful singer you have to 'win over' and appease the majority indian community. musicians and celebrities readily create controversy wherever possible in order to attract publicity & promote new songs & album releases. criticising the relatively small group of people viewed by the indian majority as the 'bogeyman', wins him sales & publicity. win-win. personally, i preferred kuldip manak as although he wasn't born a sikh at least he had an ounce of feeling for those who were.
  19. the blacker the better :-)
