  1. WOW the forums changed alot... good stuff Sikh Awareness crew

  2. Doesnt this become abit over the top and abit ritualistic when people start beliving that is a major 'sin' to take off a kakkar? Surely God isnt going to banish me to 'hell' or punish me because someone removes there kirpan for MMA or any other support for that matter.
  3. LOL HAHA i think these are all acts, acted out in revenge (they did that, we'll do this,) which in the end becomes a endless circle. Obviously what the man did was wrong and sikhi obviously does not encourage such behaviour. Is appaling some of the posts on sikhsangat. The main problem is educating the youth, not just the 'moneh' but the amritdhari's to. The problem is that half baked amritdharis go around judging and with egos and all this "your not sikhs" view that the majority of the moneh panjabis get put off sikhi all together. I remember when i was gettiing into sikhi, i hated "amritdharis" The root of the problem is educating people. I mean you can beat up, petrol bomb places all you want but the problem will still arise. Where as if people were educated you proberbly would not have so many of these incidents.
  4. Was just looking for the thoughts of some people here. Basically can you be a Sikh without taking Amrit( khandeh ke paul)? or should i say can you be a 'Sikh' without being a 'Khalsa' or joining the Khalsa panth (as in prescribing to wear 5 kakkars etc) A Khalsa is meant to be a Saint and A Warrior. But is it a must that anyone that wants to be a Sikh has to become a Khalsa? or is that a choice? e.g. like Nirmaleh (far as I no don’t take khandeh ke paul or do they ? ) if someone does not want to adopt the warrior lifestyle or adopt the 5k's does he have to go find another religion? Would like your views Thanks
  5. Well can u actually abolish the capitalist society ? ....Socialism?
  6. Its just the way he's portrayed his message (wasnt really my cup of tea.) However if i had read this like 5 years ago i reckon i proberbly would have loved it. As shaheediyan said it is properly for more of the less intellectually minded people out there
  7. I think its peoples own insecurities that leads people to have this type of thinking. It is a big problem I would say amongst the youth, that my ways right and your ways wrong. People lack debating or even general listening skills so that may help them understand different views better. Instead of the usual name calling.
  8. Do mudras actually work? or are they just some myth? and should you just do Vaheguru jaap when performing the mudras?
  9. Thanks for the replies Yeah i agree with you here but the thing is how do you do bhagti out of love, alot of our generation and friends i've talked to ( who aint that much into sikhi) feel they do not have a connection with God. In this case should you do simran anyway sort of force yourself to do it?
  10. When I examine my motives for doing simran, it seems that the answers I come up with are very self-centred. I want gyan, wisdom. I aspire to enlightenment, brahmgyan, or want to pass exams, why, because I want it! When I examine why I want it, well I'm not 100% sure, but I am beginning to feel my motives may be selfish and ego-driven. I strive to be ego-free and unselfish and believe simran meditating is the way to accomplish this, but if meditating has its roots in ego and selfishness can is this possible? Has anyone else encountered this and how does one overcome this? Is the ambition to be desire free a desire in itself? And if so is it not self defeating?
  11. I was browsing youtube and i found this rather intresting video on awareness
  12. I think every indivdual is different and prefers to do bhagti differently you just have to find which technique suits you best. When i try there is no real ras either but a wondering mind to deal with, but then again that's what meditation is bringing the restlessness back under control
  13. I don’t think simply screaming and shouting clubing , raving is wrong etc... Will not sit very well with university students. A more educated approach is needed into the philosophy of lust or a dialogue into how such things can affect the spiritual plight of a Sikh or any individual in that matter. These are university students after all so the “don’t do this because its bad it’s a sin,” wont work, it might work with little children but educated folk need/want reasons to why such things are considered as against or not encouraged in Sikhi. I read a little article in this booklet a Hindu friend of mine gave me from there Hindu society it was a good read called "Spirits at a Bar or Dynamic Spirits?" I'll try post it later
