  2. I will never be able to understand the tradition of killing animal when the time is not of swords but guns..
  3. Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_sacrifice Hinduism The basis of Hindu scriptures are the Vedas, which encourage Vedic Sacrifices (Yajna). These include the Ashwamedha (Horse Sacrifice), as well as the Somayaagam and Agnistoma (involving the sacrifice of goats). The meat of the animals were never eaten (nor were the animals actually killed by the priests themselves)[citation needed], and asphyxiation was used to minimise discomfort to the creature. Due to protests by activists, recent performances of the Somayaagam and Agnistoma in Kerala have used "pishta pashu" (forms of animals made out of paste) as a substitute for live animals. Although many Hindus are vegetarian, there are Hindu temples in India as well as Nepal and also Assam where goats and chickens as well as buffaloes are sacrificed. These sacrifices are mainly done at mandirs following the Shakti school of Hinduism where the female nature of Brahman is worshipped in the form of Kali Ma and Durga. There are many village temples in Tamil Nadu where this kind of sacrifice takes place.[2] Even in many Sakti shrines of Orissa animals like goat and chicken are sacrificed on Durga Puja in the month of Aswina (September-October) every year. In Sambalpur, this ritual sacrifice is performed in the Samaleswari temple (Pasayat, 2003:67-84). The Hindu way of animal sacrifice/slaughter is called Jhatka, where the head of the animal is severed completely by a single blow of a heavy sword. This is considered to be the most merciful and painless death for the animal, as the spinal cord and the blood supply to the brain are severed immediately. Today much of the urban Hindu community disapproves of animal sacrifice, which has been phased out in many urban areas. There still remain many traditional practices in conservative rural areas, where attempts to stop the practices have been met with resistance. Possibly the largest animal sacrifice in the world occurs during Gadhimai festival in Nepal. In the 3 day long sacrifice in 2009 it was speculated that more than 250,000 animals were killed [3] while 5 million devotees attended the festival[4].

  12. Sikhs are loosing intellectualism and in coming future there will be a lot of prejudice. It's my experience that weak and people who hold inferior complex always get to the personal attacks. These forums are platform to discuss things and it's given that views of some of the members may differ. There should not be any room for prejudice or personal attacks. It's absolutely fine to bring constructive criticism within discussion and that helps in learning logic. I hope everyone uses this forum to learn and share not to attack each other. This is a wonderful site and first one to let people express their own individual views and thoughts.
  13. Khalsa Ji, People won't take the pain to buy these books unless they read them at least 80%. I agree with Tsingh that publisher should get something for their hard work. In this case, you can use the Google method of marketing books where they hide few pages intentionally from their scanning. It will not be useful to scan 5 pages because that will not bring any interest in the book. You may want to leave 20% to 10% of the book and scan 80% to 90%.. This way you will help publishers immensely. Example is here. Sharda Puran Granth - Leave few pages the ones are very crucial. People will have the publisher's name and you have done the marketing of their book for free. It is my experience that with time these Granths will go unnoticed so do not feel bad about scanning them but as I said just leave 10% to 20 of the granth. Keep them coming so people at least know such Granths/books exist.
  14. PJS, people won' take pain to get it unless they see it

  15. Nanak Nirmal Panth Chalayiya. Sikh dharam was started to put people back to one almighty's bhagti and live in harmony. This is the core of Sikh Dharam. Sikh Dharam is not about proving ourselves better or bigger than others but core is bhagti of ek Premeshra .. Prem- Ishwar .. Ishwar one who loves. There were Bhagats/Gurus/Saints before Sikh gurus who were preaching one almighty's bhagti and there will be more in coming future. Once they stop coming the world may end.

  20. Khalsa Ji, Do you have Sri Dasam Granth Darpan by Bhai Harbans Singh of Chandigarh? It was written to refute Giani Bhag Singh of Ambala. If you do, can you please upload it as well? We are becoming greedy now...
  21. Khalsa Ji, You are doing a great job. I tried to use your method but failed. The pictures do not come crisp and it's very hard to focus. Can you take the picture of your setup and post it here? Because pages do not stay and need to be pressed with thumb while taking pictures.
  22. The movie is one sided and shows the communist views but it also exposes clearly how militant groups were so unorganized in Punjab. Quotes from movie: 1. We don't want any land we're just fighting for the cause to have religious freedom. 2. Well, whoever makes the above statement is basically scared and nervous. We want all our Takhats and for that we have to take over the whole India. 3. Sikh student federation without knowing Bhagat Singh's ideology running around in villages claiming him to be their hero.
