  1. I meant for a palang, or bed to put satguru on after sukhasan
  2. QUICk QUESTION WE ARE IN THE PROCERSS OF REVAMPING OF Maharjee's room. The home is pretty small, so the room is not that big. I was reading about Baba Isher fron Nanaksar he said that if there is no space for an evening ret place that the prakash manji should be the size of a bed and Guru jee should be kept there. Please let me know your views!!
  3. Interesting that none of you actually answered the simple question. Typicall of today's politician sikhs.Go around the issue but never address it. Harpreet if you don't know the answer maybe you should stay quiet?? Once somebody asked a sant that my mind does not concentrate but I still do nitnem but it seems to have no effect on me. He said look when a person goes to work regardless of whether or not his mind is in it or not the boss has to pay him for the time he put it. The same is with Guru Nanak, he never lets even one second of bhagtee go to waste. ---Note:Keeping a certain number or paats is just to tye the mind up and then slowly clean it, this is a natural process for those just starting. We have 5 banees for this reason among others to tye the mind into routine after which it starts to concentrate and move to higher stages. Once a sant was doing katha and someone asked I don't understand gurbani but I still read, is there any good in this? He answered look a child who knowingly puts his hand into a fire will burn it. A child who unknowingly puts his hand in fire will burn it also. Gurbani is the same way, all powerfull, regardless of understanding it will burn your sins. Don't limit gurbani or sikhi it is as vast a God. Please just answer the question if you know the answer. Can someone also explain this lunar month system? Puniaa, puranmashi??? Please explain in detail.
  4. Please answer asap. Nanaksar is quite famous for stressing the compltetion of one full paat of Guru Granth Sahib per month, they also say you can do 6 malas (108 beads) of mool mantar daily and that equals a full paat after a month. Now my question is about the days of the month because some have more and some less days. So the month with the least number of days is 28, so does that mean it is 108*648(108*6) = 18, 144 mool mantars equal one paat? Simply put how many mool mantars on a monthly basis equal a full paat of Guru Granth Sahib? Please answer asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I would have to agree with N30 on this one. I am reading anad chamatkaar right now but have not come to that story yet. Baba Gurbachan Singh writes himeself writes that Moolmanter is up to Nanak Hosee Bhee Sach, in all his books and taksal is very wel known for this. And he also writes that it is ok to put pictures of Guru Saheb or shaheeds and bhagats in Guru Jees Room/Gurdwara and they should be respected as such (From Gurmat Rehni). Nanaksar and Taksal seem to have very, very similar maryadas. Sikhi is a vast as God, there are many ways of respecting and reaching God even within Sikhi. It all comes down to naam Jap which they both did. Giani Sunder Singh also held paats for "SARBAT DA BHALLA" and had the sangat do ardaas that Baba Nand Singh would attend, saying that he was the "roop of nirankar" at that time in the world. I think Baba Gurbchan Singh might have been just been young and may have learned in a different way, that clouds our perception and understanding. It was I think also a time that alote of people were against pictures, Lighting jots, dhoof and puratan Sikhi in general. Look many amritdharis fight amongst themselves over certain issues like raagmala, meat, pad-ched etc, etc. Does it mean that they are not accepted in Sach Khand or cannot attain Brahm Gyaan? I wouldn't think so, it is the love in your heart that is the biggest thing that is looked at. That is my take on it. This story does not be-little Giani Gurbachan Singh, I would say.
  6. When making degh can we use unsalted butter or do we have to use ghee(clarified butter). I have seen that in most gurdwaras here in canada that butter is used, even though ghee is available. What should be used and what really is the difference??? I notice that when I make it with ghee it does not have the same taste or smell as when made with unsalted butter, it seems more tasty and rich with butter. Can anyone shed some light on this topic, do you also notice the same taste difference??? What kind of sugar do you use, the regular white sugar? I heard that this is bad for health, does anyone know what desi khand is? Is it brown sugar? I was reading that this is what they used in guru jees times. If that is so do you use the same amount of desi khand as regular white sugar? Please help me out on this one. Any other pointers will be greatly helpfull!!!
  7. Just coming back to the original question. I have had the great fortune of reading the life stories of Baba Gurbachan Singh of the taksal, Baba Isher of Rara Sahib and Baba Nand Singh of Nanaksar, and they all say the say thing, the following is equivalent of doing one full sehaj paat in a month: Complete recitation of the whole of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in a month. Complete 50 paths of Sri Sukhmani Sahib in a month; recite 2 paths of Sri Sukhmani Sahib daily. Complete 250 paths of Jap Ji Sahib in a month; recite 10 paths of Jap Ji Sahib daily. Complete 180 Malas (Rosary Mala of 108 beads) of Mool Mantra (from Ekonkar to Nanak Hosi Bhi Such) in a month; do six malas daily. Complete 80 Malas daily of Gur Mantar 'Waheguru'; 20 Malas of Waheguru if the Nam is recited four times on each bead. Complete 160 Malas daily of Ram (Nam); 40 Malas if Ram is recited four times on each bead A Mohammedan was advised to practice and recite the name of Allah on each bead as above. All of the above sants do recommend this if you want to progress on the path to God. I was also reading some old rehatnaame where I came across someone saying that every gursikh should do one paat a month. The reason there are "equivalencies" ie other paats that have the same reward, is that not everybody can read gurbani some people are blind etc, etc so this is an easy way to complete this montlhy. Believe me all sants do this, and all agree that the above numbers equal a full paat. Sant Isher singh (rara sahib) said that when you start doing these paats in about a year or two your mind will become pure enough to pass into the next stages of bhagtee. We only use a mala to tye down our minds. And say look do this much, then slowly the mind changes because bani is cleaning it. All sants from all deras etc etc use malas. There is nothing wrong in it. It is these modern day people who don't do bhagtee themselves that think it is just a show piece. So hey you use the mala good and if not thats good too!!!!

  10. Sangat jee, For those of you who have maharaj's prakash at home what do you guys do the the money you mathatek? Can it be used for dasvandh purposes, like sending it for buildings funds of gurdwara of just giving to charity or local gurdewara. Or does it have to be only used where it is mathateked? The reason I am asking is we are planning on sending money for a historical gurdwara in India and there is some dasvandh at our home gurdwara I was thinking of sending that along with it, but I cant help feel guilty about it for some reason, I'm not sure if this is a standard practice among gursikhs. From canada how do you guys usually send money to India. I was thinking of making a bank draft and they can cash it there in India. Please get back to me with your thoughts!!!
  11. Right, OK So back to the topic. Any suggestions??? We already use dhoof but that really does not last that long (the scent)!!!!! Any suggestions!!!!
  12. Just a quick question for the sangat. Can you suggest any specific names of "scents" for Guru Jees Hajooree? I just don't know which ones to buy. Any specific scent of brand names would help, so I can easily go out and buy them.
  13. So what do you guys think about Ragis like both the famous and non famous. Do they really do what they preach. Do they keep within the code of conduct? Especially the more popular ones like Sri nagger, Jaghadhri, Una sahib, Rangilaa, Zakhmi, Dehradoon just to name a few. Any stories out there about how there personal life is??? I mean these people guide us in sikhi:( . What effect does there keertan have on us if they do not do things themselves like nitnem etc, etc. Should we even worry about this when listeneing to there keertan????????????????

PLease respond if you are knowledgable about the rehat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Quick question, what do you guys think about the "stitched turbans". The ones that are cut in half and then are stitched? For amritdharis do you think it is ok. I have heard from Tapoban singhs that the gurmukhi dastaar should not have the back laar, or be stitched. What do you guys think??? I just find the other non stiched turbans don't tie the right size they tie really small even with a keski underneath.

  21. How often are people really doing this? daily. monthly? Is this a common thing both in India and this part of the world? And I mean if your doing it like this then you obviously have issues of control , I mean would you want some one like this to do seva in the panj pyaree??? I hope not!!!! The thing is we really never put our faith in bani that is the real reason we need to use these outlets to release our energy.
  22. I wonder how many amritdhari's are actually doing this??? :?:
  23. Just a question when you take a hukam from GGS and like a huge long hukum comes like: anand sahib or the wedding lava, are these to be considered as a hukam or are we supposed to change the page????? What is the significance if any in getting a hukum of this magnitude. Ans also what is seva??? 24. We its says "seva" of Satguru jee. What does that mean. Does it mean that we do physicall seva like cahnging rumala, keeping gurdwara clean, langar seva etc. Or dies it mean reciting naam. When the word seva comes it gurbani like: "bin satgur seve jagat muaa....", what does seva mean ?????? How do we do this seva????
