  1. 95% of "sikh" girls want non-turbanned "sikhs" because, 95% of people who are born-sikh do not even know what sikhi really is, and do not value it. I'd say 5-10% actually value what they know, rather than just take it in as random knowledge. So, these 95% of born-sikh-girls are like everyone else in the world....just born. Why make them suffer and life a lifestyle they don't enjoy? Why make them marry someone who they think is ugly? as Obviously they value looks more than sikhi/insides. Why is that 99.9% of mexican girls do not want turbanned sikhs?....I see the question of the original topic along the same lines as this. Simply ridiculous. And as for everyone else who says most girls who do not remove hair on their body, will like singhs is ridiculous as well. I've met numerous amounts of "singhnis" that want non-turbanned sikhs. I call these "keshdhari hindus" as they merely practice the culture of Hindustan. Keeping hair isnt the difference. Having knowledge of sikhi isnt the difference. What makes the key difference is having the knowledge of sikhi and valuing it. (Keeping your hair and knowing WHY you do) Both go hand in hand. If your marrying a Singhni or only look for singhni, be careful and find out the answers if shes knowledgeable of sikhi. The hair isnt the only thing that makes a sikh. knowledge or "having sikhi inside your heart" isnt the only thing either. Why search for a girl that values make-up more than the path of truth? Why be interested in a girl that keeps her hair merely because her parents force her, yet she wishes to cut it everyday? If fashion is your goal, then cut your hair, its as simple as that. If fashion is your truth, get a subscription to Cosmo. Otherwise, get used to it, and your values will always come out on top, and you will find a girl who has similar values.
  2. Interesting question. Although I'm not amritdhari (I Don't carry the kirpan yet), some of my friends whom are, tie a small symbolic kirpan and wear it as a necklace on a thing black string around their necks while boarding airplanes. The symbolic kirpan usually has a blunt end, and they haven't faced any problems yet. They simply pick up their original kirpan when they get off the plane. It is understandable though, not everyone can trust another person with a knife on an airplane any longer. It's for security measures, and I think everyone should be forced to stick to it, and the only means to get by is to wear a symbolic reference to the original kirpan. I dont see the symbolic small kirpan as harmful to a Sikh or harmful to the general public.
  3. Drawof, 1) im not a follower of randhir singh. 2) name-dropping is equally as bad, 2 wrongs dont equal a right. 3) I used the phrase he "ran into randhir singh" not literally, but on occassion that they did meet. Sorry for misunderstood slang. And whose to say Jail Chittian isnt correct? Randhir singh wrote it down, makes me believe it slightly more then consulting your forementioned people. And inside bhagat singhs diary, you will also read about his atheist philosphy, which he later ditched. Anyways the story of the jail chittian is debatable. Your choice, but that wasnt the topic of this dicussion. And also I've met some grandfathers and great-grandfathers who were about 16-18. All of them told me correctly that he did recite the words "Waheguru, Sat Nam" several times before the noose was tied around his head. This is over. No more replies. Stop wasting my time.
  4. "Why don't you understand - that his faith beliefs are irrelvant to what he did !! Tell me how did Sikhi help him when he was tried and hanged at Central Lahore Jail??" Wait, am i wrong or didnt sikhi help him take the decision to be hung with courage and pride? If you ever read upon his history, he wrote about being an atheist, and not beleiving in god...yet he ran to Randhir Singh and openly admitted being of scared of death. Its from that point he began to believe in sikhi again, and was not afraid to die. LOL, and your talking about the amount of courage that is used to give up your life? Do you know how many other Indians that did the same? Seriously, open your mind, you'll see that the so-called Revolution caused by Bhagat Singh is nothing more than an exploit used by the Indian Govt. to keep Sikhs united with them. Bhagat Singh fought for India. Anyways this topic is beat. Go on believing everything India writes in their history books. "Now, 73 years after Shaheed Bhagat Singh gave away his life for his country, he's being forgotten by the politicians and media. I watched the news on Zee TV today, and they showed a short clip at the end. This is really sad. I mean all the politicans never seem to forget the days when M.K. Gandhi, Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi died. And what did they do compared to what Shaheed Bhagat Singh did? [bikram] " ^ This only furthers my point. India knows exactly what Bhagat Singh did for them...not much. When they need to fool Sikhs into thinking what Bhagat Singh did was revolutionary...they shoot out a bunch of movies based on him, release more books on him. Bhagat Singh is a tool/always was a tool for India.
  5. Hey Rupy, you stated : "Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji inspires me most because the sacrifice he made is the biggest sacrifice an individual can make. Being an ex-armed force member, I know what it takes for one to serve their country.. I praised Shaheed Bhagat Singh for his seva to his country, dekheya jaweh ehe koi nawi ja wadhi gal nahi, sewa chaye insanyat di hove, chahye kaum di, or Desh di per He gave away his life for his country, and it's independence. He wasn't just one of those revolutionary freedom fighters who was fighting without any plans and political standards." Being an ex-armed force member you should also be able to understand if your fighting for the right reason or not. Bhagat Singh, if he was as knowledgeable as you state, then he would have long before known that the people of India were simply not ready for independence, and the country called India would have failed miserably as a democracy if it were created immediately. The legend himself, Mahatma Gandhi knew this, if India was created at that certain time, the people werent ready for it, It would have been corrupted and their would have been no equal rights at all. Yet you claim Bhagat Singh is courageous, and brave. He writes about atheism, and then at the last moment in fear of death, returns back to his sikh religion? If you have ever read his writings, you would be aware of how much he stated himself he would never be scared of Death, he doesnt need the support of "God" to get him thru life. and then you stated : Bhagat Singh should be held in high regard for his possesion of high qualities of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service, which are necessary for one to not only be a good citizen in a civilized society but also these high qualities are necessary to the preservation and protection of the fundamental institutions of our government and the advancement of society. He had real high qualities of courage, didnt he? Sitting down and writing a philosphy and then being scared off by it. And those qualities are necessary for advancement of society? If thats true, then why hasnt India shed its image of a Corrupt Democracy?...why is it that other nations still claim India is no democracy at all. Bhagat Singh died 70 years ago, and India has went to hell since. He should have known the people were ready. and seriously, if you think Bhagat Singh was inspiring, he did relatively NOTHING at all compared to what Gandhi did for the same movement. or do you just have some sort of hatred for Gandhi because he screwed the sikhs over? Gandhi was right, and he will always be right. Indians werent ready for independence. All you have after is a corrupt power-struggle. And dont give me that trash about how India has only been around for 50 years or so. Because it was 1947 when they gained independence, you cant compare that to America's date, and how/what Americans did to gain independence. And before you call other people who fought for the movement and claim they didnt have the same political standards as Bhagat Singh, i say you research more about the movement of India. Many people did alot more then Bhagat Singh. His story (as of recent) is more exploited by the Indian Government as an attempt to unite Sikhs with Hindus again. Bhagat Singhs story of revolution is an exploit to unite Sikhs with India during times of turmoil between the respective communities. He was a great philospher, but one who could not even follow his own writings.
  6. Hey Rupy, why is that bhagat singh inspired you the most? Does it have anything to do with the fact he fought for the independence of India or he had sikh-roots? Because seriously, if you praise Bhagat Singhs efforts for causing a revolution....there were many that did it in a much better way, perhaps you should read more about them and what they did. Just by observing, I sense you have a feel for Bhagat Singh over others because either of his Sikh-roots or his fight for India. Yet, if you praise Bhagat Singh for India...many similar people fought for India are were by far better warriors and incited more revolutionaries to rise then Bhagat Singh ever did. You either feel for Bhagat Singh the most because you can relate to him, or you just happened to research him the most because of his religious-roots or cultural roots. Mind you, if you praise Bhagat Singh, you may as well praise every warrior that fought for the indepedence of Hindustan. I wont get into that matter, your choice Bhagat Singh didnt do much, besides write alot of B/S that was later falsified by himself when he met Randhir Singh and realized the fear of death. Who wastes their time wriiting out new philosphy only to not follow it? Just proves Bhagat Singh was much more weak-minded then he protrayed his egoistic self. He was a good man, just laid his life for a foolish cause. Not saying he took part in any of those conspiracies  Praise him, might as well praise the other "indian" warriors that died for the same "goal" Selecting him as the most inpsiring over so many other people which fought for a better cause, and had better reason...makes me wonder. -S|kH
  7. If anyone remembers how much controversy that SGPC ban had caused due to Jazzy B's recent album "Sikhi Khandiyon Tikhi" in which he sings Dharmik songs and the dvd has shabads. (The Ban = No More Shabads from 'patit' singers or dharmik) Well, people were trying to defend Jazzy B and alot of people said what he was doing was good by releasing that cd, and the ban was ridiculous. Jazzy B recorded a new song, after releasing that. "Oye Bhakaray phir peeni sharaba Putt Sardaran De" First line of the song, Jazzy B states : "Jatta De Rab ve Darda" God is scared of Jatts. The point of this post was to support SGPC on their ban, due to the singers producing ridiculous songs like these. "Sikhi Khandiyon Tikhi" promotes sikhi, so a child will begin to listen to the music, only to come across such BS like this by the same singer. -Hareet and I recall MANY people were supporting Jazzy B on his CD release, and claimed he was different from all those singers that produce the same type of music and then go back to producing junk. So I Bring you this: J Skillz - Putt Sardaran De (Jazzy not only does he say, "Jattan De Rab Ve Darda" but also bashes the name of "Putt Sardaran De" claiming they [are]drunk...haha. (i found it mildly amusing). Look at the losers out there.
  8. "With liberty and justify for all." lol, the pledge of allegience states justice for all... but, do you know how many times the pledge has been changed and altered?...The original pledge didn't even have the word "God" in it. So the pledge has relatively no meaning in it at all. and liberty for all would mean that the kid would be able to wear a cap, because its discriminating against him, by allowing me to wear the turban. I GURANTEE you this will be a problem we will face soon, but its ok, just sit back and the yell about it when it arises. Republicans think like that, that if you give something to someone, its discriminating someone else. So Gurjote paji, open your mind up more, i think your "CONFUSED AGAIN..." lol oh jaiiiiii. -S|kH As for "The Admin"...actually if you just show the kid that your a normal person and you dont argue back against him, and you teach sometime where he's able to be taught, he'll learn. If i was to get angry then, and go complain to the principal it would only incite more hatred in the kid, so just let it be, its only a joke, shouldnt take it so seriously We all laugh at the various stereotypes of the black male, white male, and indian males here. No biggie. You teach them once he's calm, then you mention to him the significance of it. But thanks anyway.
  9. Alright, I've been thinking this over since an incident occurred in school today. I was walking down the hallway (Senior in HS), and there was another student who was wearing a baseball cap on, and a teacher requested him to remove the cap, and of course, he pointed at me and said "how come he can wear that?" The teacher replied that, that is his religion, whereas wearing a baseball cap is not yours. And the student then mocked and said, "Wearin' a hat is part of my religion" Of course that was a reasonable response from the teacher, but if the student wished to look into it further, couldnt he find a loophole? Loophole being that allowing me to wear a turban and him not to cover his head with a cap is discrimination against him? And suppose he says wearing the baseball cap is part of his religion, what can the teacher say? That its not part of your religion, you must take it off?... And if the student decides to take it further, how can we find out whats considered more spiritual than the other (baseball cap or the turban) ? And even if we prove to the student that Sikhism is a religion that has been around for many years, cant the student just say, "So, im creating my own, and i view wearing the baseball cap as spiritual?" Of course the government has to draw lines, but if they allow the turban, wont that be discrimination against him? How do we stop someone from "making up" a religion that could harm us? I've just been thinking this over with Frances recent decision to ban religious symbols...So far it just seems that no student has ever taken this cause to court, but if they do....wont they win? (baseball cap vs turban) ? -S|kH
  10. lol Hari, you misintrepreted that line...I am not saying Guru Nanak self-proclaimed himself as a prophet. But Guru Nanak DID create a philosphy, what do you think sikhi is? Philosphy is a way of thinking, Guru Nanak brought a new way of thinking to the people around him.
  11. I've been reading alot of Friedrich Nietzsche lately.. amazing philospher, but at the same time he's crazy. I'm having similar trouble as Khalistani Singh, but not to the same extent. Anyway, the famous quote from Nietzsche "God is Dead." God was created by society to explain the unexplainable. As Humans, we always need a purpose or reason for existence, or for certain things to happen. And when certain things are unexplainable we attribute it to God. Lets start with the Romans/Greeks for exmaple, they believed that the tides in the ocean were controlled by Poseidon (God Of Sea). Many years later, we prove that God doesnt control the ocean, and now we say God controls other things (that are yet unexplainable to us) Humans just cant accept the fact that some things can not be explained right now, but maybe at a later date they will. It shows that Gods control over things has changed as time goes by. Before they used to believe everything was controlled, now most believe just natural birth and death are controlled by God. Personally, I think the cloning of Humans will destroy all religions (unless newly dated with atheist resemblence). God was created by society to find an escape and purpose in life. Look at all the responses of people claiming God gives purpose to life, that life would just be a stupid cycle of birth --> death otherwise. These would be the same people that many years ago, would sya God controlled tides in the ocean. They would just say, look at the tides in the ocean, its not possible for something to have an effect like that on Earth, God must be doing it! And please quit the answers of "go read Japji Sahib" or so. If you've read it, and have knowledge on it, help us and explain your answers. Just like Guru Nanak created a philosphy, Nietzsche created a philosphy and claimed he was a prophet. I'm sure in due time, there will be a religion after Nietzsches beliefs. Yet, when people ask, I will not just reply with "Go read Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche"
  12. Also, some other information before you choose who to vote for. Bush has given the Sikhs the permission to celebrate gurpurab inside the White House, for world-wide recognition of Sikhism. Kerry, well, he's said that phrase in the above video. I'm sure this will have a significant impact on your decision to vote, just as it will have on mine, but remember that just because a Republican may not help your family (middle-class) immediately doesnt mean he's not doing the right thing for the Sikhs (as a whole). Sometimes you got to take a hit in personal life, to make the lives of others better. Personally, if its Kerry vs. Bush, and Kerry does not apologize about this statement, and if he keeps saying Sikhs are Terrorists, I'll have no trouble at all voting for Bush.
  13. How hard is it to keep the rehat in college/university? I really want to do it, but im going to be going to Penn State University. Which is like the 3rd biggest party school in the states.. Is it manageable...is there anyone whose went to a big university as an amritdhari sikh?...any help you can give me, i'd appreciate. Everyone else says I should wait till after uni.
  14. Wow, excellent response Pheena. Sure does clear somethings from me, and I'll research more into it. Thanks alot
  15. Another scenario thats causing me some trouble : Scenario 3#: Your a poor, helpless child in Africa...starving to death. Is this Hukam? Guru Di Kirpa? If God does everything for the right, why would he starve a child? If the child had committed some sins in his past life, why would he re-incarnate the soul into another human form? How can I child of this sort manage to do seva, when he can't even feed himself? The murder of 6 million Jews in the holocaust. Is this also considered Hukam? happening for the good? I'm pretty certain the jews who died were much more closer to god than Adolf Hitler. How come, the "hukam" took into play for Hitler and he was able to commit a genocide?
  16. ok, here's a conversation between me and a friend on AIM. the part that is isolated in brackets [] is what my friend copied to me from another conversation Khalistani Singh (3:35:37 PM): [(3:32:23 PM): i was readin this convo sharon sent me about jiten (3:32:28 PM): it made me all depreesed (3:32:33 PM): he can't talk (3:32:42 PM): he looks totally different (3:32:47 PM): so much shit (3:32:57 PM): fuckin makes me soo sad ] Khalistani Singh (3:32:57 PM): yeah [ (3:33:27 PM): she was like..dude dat made me soo depressed (3:33:30 PM): itz bad (3:33:41 PM): i had no idea how bad it was (3:34:02 PM): the kid is letterally jus surviving (3:34:18 PM): i feel so bad (3:34:24 PM): so i was writing bak to her Khalistani Singh (3:34:41 PM): yeah (3:35:10 PM): i hope baba ji helps him through this ] natsilahk (3:36:07 PM): what happened to "jiten" ? We both dont acknowledge that as an appropriate answer as we think fate mostly lies in our hands. (I guess its somewhat of an athiestic viewpoint). Can someone tell us if its just our own creation of philosphy or whether this is in Sikhism too? And what would happen to the above mentioned problem...would Waheguru really look out for the injured victim? Or did it just happen because random things happen. For reference : natsilahk = me. Khalistani Singh = Khalistani Singh on this board (he posts with the same nick) -Hareet To Admins - If any curses were leaked in the conversation that were not already edited by me, please edit them out of the post. As I may have missed some.
  17. ah, the worst isnt the teasing. What do you do when there are other sikh males in your school but they dont have a joora? They rock the same khanda necklace you wear...so everyone is left questioning, why you do it, and assume its some sort of ancient indian tradition. And then what do you explain to them without looking all radical?? But yeah, those boys were weak. Had he grown up, he would have probably chose to cut his hair sooner or later, would have found another excuse. -Hareet
  18. khalsacrazed, your idealogy is whack. Claiming shes not sikh, but only punjabi. A Sikh is one who is on the path of the guru and one who hopes to become part of the Khalsa Panth. The gurus never created a definite set of rules for being a Sikh. She's on the path to sikhi as long as she realizes her mistakes and wants to correct them. Do you really expect kids to just pop up as hardcore sikhs who take amrit at the age of 7? Sorry we're not all the next Guru Har Krishan Ji. A Sikh is on a continuing path, sometimes they fall off, but the true Sikhs and Khalsay come back to it. Let's try to lead her to the correct path, rather than have her jump across multiple paths and directly to amritdhari. lost_sikhgirl - As long as you have realized your mistakes, your are once again on the path of sikhi. To get back involved I would reccommend hanging out with those sikh friends you had before you changed, with whom you would discuss sikh-related issues with. Continue going to gurdwara, and further your knowledge of sikhi via the internet. You can of course continue to go to clubs mildly, just make sure you dont do it to an excess. It takes time to turn your life around, but its possible. Just start researching about sikhi again, and it'll all come back to you. Also make sure you take this little action you have to stop your current lifestyle and keep it there, do not fall back into that life-style. If I can help you in any possible way, please let me know. Add me to your msn if I can do anything for you. Best of luck to you in the future, -Hareet
  19. Wow, I just saw the movie with Tom Cruise called 'The Last Samurai' The way the samurai are related to the khalsa panth is unbelievable. You must watch the movie, and you will see what im talking about. There is the new Japanese force who attempts to destroy off the Samurai and their way of life. Tom Cruise is sent to Japan to be a General and kill off the remaining Samurai. He then becomes a POW and realizes how peaceful the way of samurai is. It's unbelievable, you all must see this movie, and you will be able to spot out so many references on how their lifestyle is similar to the teachings of sikhi and that of the Khalsa Panth. Sad to say, the Samurai die off slowly, which seems to be the same happening to the Khalsa. Even the ending where...(I wont spoil it for anyone, unless you ask ) I reccommend this movie to all. -Hareet
  20. lol, off what facts do you claim that meat-eating is not allowed? I just proved you wrong off that website given above, with quotes directly from guruji. Are you following some hinduism tradition or a ritual? Sikhi is against that also. Go read that website, and come back with your facts.
  21. Neo, have you even bothered to hear what Kathuria has to say? or are you just supporting him simply on the fact of him being a sikh? His political views are ridiculous, and I refuse to vote someone into office just based of their religious preference. Ridiculous, I hope he doesnt win. Democrats 2004. Howard Dean for President. -Hareet
  22. lol bro, you got your rehat maryada mixed up.. You can eat meat...according to SGPC rehat, which is mostly commonly used, and the panj pyare dont always tell you to not eat meat. Plus, is it not our right to question? Did Guru Nanak not teach us that blindly following is ridiculous? And besides, think of it this way.. For the human race to develop this far from primitive times, meat was a neccessity. Maybe not know due to other crops, but to gain this much health and to go so far, man had to eat meat. (back in the day). You really think guruji would come along and say ALL meat is banned? You really think the guru who created the Khalsa, and once ate meat, would say all meat is banned? http://www.sikh-dharma.org.uk/ie.htm OTHER ARTICLES > VEGETARIANISMS > MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT EATING MEAT > QUOTES FROM SIRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB clearly stated in those quotes directly from SGGS, that eating meat in NO WAY makes you more religious. If you do it, then do it for health reasons, not for religious reasons. Anyway that was off topic, but i dont know which rehit you follow, and most panj pyare follow the one in india, which allows you to eat Non-Halal Meat, including fish and eggs. Open up your mind bro, Gurus told us to question. Vegetarian for religious reasons? Wow, sure sounds like a Hindu tradition.
  23. OK thanks for the "common sense" answers...../end sarcasm. "Dude" I know they wouldnt list every freaking example, but you think FISH belongs there with alcohol and WINE? I was asking if someone knew if that translation was correct as its written, or theres some true meaning behind it...such as symbolism. Thanks for the heaven/hell answer though, so my question remains...is fish used as symbolism for another type of intoxicant. From my knowledge we're not supposed to use intoxicants that alter our mind-state, but would fish fall into this category? Or is this just another pro-meat vs. anti-meat thing? Seriously if you wish not to share your knowledge on the topic, dont post a response. Niranjana thanks for the help, I was thinking along the lines of your answer also.
  24. I just found this shabad... This Shabad is by Bhagat Kabeer Ji in Salok Kabeer Jee on Pannaa 1377 kbIr BWg mwCulI surw pwin jo jo pRwnI KWih ] kabeer bhaa(n)g maashhulee suraa paan jo jo praanee khaa(n)hi || Kabeer, those mortals who consume marijuana, fish and wine qIrQ brq nym kIey qy sBY rswqil jWih ]233] theerathh barath naem keeeae thae sabhai rasaathal jaa(n)hi ||233|| - no matter what pilgrimages, fasts and rituals they follow, they will all go to hell. ||233|| from sikhitothemax... I dont understand...I thought sikhs dont beleive in heaven or hell. And also are things listed that specific in the sggs?(gives examples of wine, marijuana etc.) Cocaine isnt listed, so if one was to consume cocaine, he wouldnt go to "hell." But, one that consumes fish will? The only thing I can remember about this is that you should not take intoxicants to the level where you can not control your mental state. But it says we can not consume fish? Sorry if this question has been posted, but I just ate fish last night without knowledge of this...so  Can anyone provide me with more information about this? :?: Thanks in advance, -Singh
