  1. Hi Naranjhan Ji, I am deliberately being vague about democratic principles..........there are many systems of democracy around the world................what I would say is that they are based on the General consensus........although there was no formal voting in Sikhi..............it was always about the best person being appointed.....Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji muddied the water a bit and I think if he had adhered to the "best Person" principle........there may have been a Sikh Kingdom for longer.................... anyway....back to the point............if you take the general democratic principle of "Consensus" and the "Best Person"................I am sure you will have no doubt that these principles exist exclusively in Sikhi.................other faiths seem to be hung up on other issues.................however unfortunately Sikhi seems to be moving that way..........
  2. Nirajana Ji, Democratic principles are essentially about appointing the best person for the job as a pose to some form of hereditary title......fairness, equality and social justice being the core to democratic principles....here are some examples in Sikhi of this....... - Guruship was not heredatory.......best people were appointed..... - Panj Pyarey........again best people were appointed by the people..... - Masands were the best people appointed........when it became autocratic ........it was abolished by the 10th Master....... - Daswand or giving to the poor is based on the Democratic principle of Social Justice....... - Social Justice is found largely in Democratic left wing orientated states...... I can cite many more examples.........but I am sure you get the gist...... Thanks I would say.........we Sikhs have made a mockery of these priciples.........
  3. I beg to differ....it is not only about equality but equality and diversity................equality is only about letting people into the shop.....equality and diversity is about actually having something in that shop that the person wishes to buy..........no point letting you in if there is no opportunity to buy anything...........
  4. I'm sorry if I have offended any veges out there.............but guys be honest now.............next time you go Gurudwara look at the Sikh guys............note how many of the pure veges are skinny or fat................there are exception to the rule.............however these are exeptions.............guys I've been training for years and I have yet to come across a very strong pure vegetarian i.e. no eggs as well.......... KS.......certain types of protein the body finds harder to assimilate..........soya is one of these...........that from eggs is the best..........for the body to assimilate........thats a fact.............if you can get strong without meat well carry on..............but you are in a minority...................you know the problems have had with Muslim gangs in London.............in anycase..........meat eaters who just eat meat and no veg will invairiably get week as well................I am talking about a balanced diet...........just like this debate needs to be a balanced debate as Amans has stated..............if you can get by without eggs and meat thats fine carry on................... My concern is only to make Sikhs stronger..............and give them all the chances that life can offer them..............if it means killing a few chickens.......so be it...........i won't lose any sleep over it..............they've probably been liberated from their meaningless chicken existence anyway ...............just kidin...........
  5. Hi Amans, Maybe I was a bit harsh........yes I have read all the various quotes on meat eating in their entirity.................there are problems with certain words being translated.......e.g "murdaar"..............which normally refers to dead people..........but the vegetarian lobby take to mean dead animals.................the problem is that the SGGS ji has been written to read as a whole............an entire paragraph refers to a particular subject...........when you take out one or two sentences you distort the meaning of the peragraph...............both camps are guilty of this.......... My concern is the state of out young sikh men and women..............many are weaklings............especially the vegetarian ones.......this is an undeniable fact..............they need to improve their diets and get to the gym..............there is no doubt that meat and eggs does make you stronger...........therfore I would like to see young Sikhs adopt sensible balanced diets that make themselves physically stronger......so they are no longer the victims of muslim gangs in the uk ......... or hindu mobs like the dehli riots................ this is the only agenda I have............to see our Sikhs strong and powerful.........
  6. What about Love for God KS?.......you ever seen Star Wars...........in that they talk about loving someone is Ok......so long as you are not attached............
  7. Hi Hari, Thanks for the good advice. Sorry about the raw egg white's, but good quality egg whites mixed up with milk seem OK.... Liver I have occaisionally, and is well cooked. I generally eat a lot of vegetarian stuff. I don't recommend soya as I find that my body finds it difficult to assimilate. but thanks for the advice.
  8. Aman Singh, Sorry my friend, but if you wish to experiment on animals by giving vegetarian diets to cats, then that is up to you, but you are going against what nature intended, and remeber God designed nature. Eating meat has nothing to do with taste buds. When I'm training I eat stuff like liver abd raw white eggs. They tase disgusting but are good for you. There are some nasty tasting vegetables like Karela's that people eat, because they are good for you. It does not come down to taste at all. If that were the case, you'd only have to give Chitay Choaly once to everyone and everyone would eat them. I have heard the argument, that Vitamin B12 and amino acids from meat can make you more aggresive, but I would say that is more down to the individual than anything else and their ability to control Krodh. Amans, Do not claim to know me. You do not know what my aganda is. If there is one thing I do dislike it is ignorance, where arguments are presented for one side. I have observed the aggresive vegetarianism on many of the forums, and condemnation of meat eaters. Most of the worlds population eats meat, does that mean they are bad. In yout eyes probably yes, in my eyes no, because they are just different. I've heard all the arguments against and for, and there has not been a single convincing argument from the vegetarian camp. Destruction of life in one form or another is unavoidable. My scientific head tells me matter is not destroyed but takes up a diffferent form i.e converted. The pain argument is a non-starter, because it is all relative. Some plants even flesh. I just observe nature now for all it's various variations created by God and accept it, rather than trying to impose unatural values. Incidently, have you seen the BBC Documentary Walking With Cavemen - scientists have proved if our ancestors had not eaten the marrow from bones, out brains would still be at the ape level. Maybe God made a mistake when our ancestors were doing this.
  9. I think you are talking about attachement to loved one's................you can love someone.............but not to the extent you lose all your sense of reasoning................
  10. This argumant can be raised for the otherside too..........pne could say we are designed to eat meat to.....................Guru Nanak Dev Ji was talking sense when he said fools wrangle over flesh..............you should worry about being a good Sikh rather than what people eat.........................this argument is a waste of time and it will only cause anatagonism and bad feeling.....mark my words........................... I keep an open mind and I have not been convinced totally one way or the other...............I have friends who are vegetarians and they do not force their views on others.............same for the meat eaters..............I suggest you do the same........... 8)
  11. Greed invariably leads to envy because a Greedy person can never have enough.............it takes things away from those who need it..............this is a bane in our society...........
  12. Kaam is sometimes confused with love..................Kaam is just wanton sexual gratification for the sake of it..............it is sex without love...........peverse sexual fantasies....etc it does not mean it is a condemnation of people who have sex but are in true Love with each other................Kaam can lead to people lusting after other peoples partners.............or having sex with people that is "immoral"...........................Kaam again leads inevitably to suffering...........
  13. Moh..................classic one's nowadays.............my car has to be a BMW to keep up with so and so.....................I see this one more and more in our young Sikhs..................Moh is in effect Materialism.............which is the new God of the late 20th Century................if we are not careful it will drag us down and stop us from achieving higher purposes and goals..........
  14. One of the central themes of Sikhi is selfless service..............i.e. putting other before yourself.................you cannot be a true Sikh if you only care about yourself...............by definition your actions and deeds are guided by selfishness.....................ego leads to false pride.............this false pride can take many forms.........pride in race: intellectual ability: more money than another......and even the fact that one os less selfish than another.............this leads to real problems..........
  15. I see there is no reasoning with some people.......no reasoning with some people...............most of the human race must be animals do doubt............
  16. This does not just mean anger.......but refers to stubborness as well............not listening to reason..............this is a trait of anger..............in anycase..........in a situation where person gets angry they invariably loose.............it normally ends up in a tete a tete...........
  17. Gawd Blimey, We've done this topic to death on sikh-history.com............................meat eaters and vegetarians are pole apart on this issue.........this thread started off with fools wrangles over flesh.................................and I think it needs repeating.............I've stopped debating the issue............because it is to emotive and both sides cannot see the others view....................there are very few who can.................we are not Guru's so who are we to say what is right or wrong....................do what you think is right according to Bani..........there will always be arguments over interpretaion.......................I don't think anyone has a right to tell another person what level of a life form should be consumed..............unless it's another human being..............however even that has been done in extreme situations.....................just think about what I've said and try to be a better Sikh yourself before telling others what they should do................ :nihung:
  18. He is my hero and an Inspiration...................incidently he could have shot O'Dwyer at any time but waited for a public venue.............
  19. I would further like to add a link to the first five Sikhs: http://www.searchsikhism.com/martyrs/5beloved.htm I do not believe however Amrit was taken in that order..........the followers of Nanak iniatlly were the poor and low caste's like Bhai Lalo (a carpenter), Bala (a peasant/Jat) etc.....................I strongly believe that the poorer people like the Jat, Washerman etc would have come forward before the Khatri for Amrit...........................in anycase, there is still some debate about the above 5 beloved ones in the link......as to whether they were the first.............................
  20. Well I think many of you guys know me as a mod from sikh-history.com....................I'm 34 from the Uk............work as a professional...............went to Uni many moons ago.....................used to power lift.................now getting lazy and overweight.....................love reading Sikh History.................Hate pro-castist, racists, fascists, and people who discriminate..............all these negatives are in the same boat................. Feel sorry for people who spend their life in pursuit of the 5 vices...........
  21. No it is not true...........I have been studying Sikhi now for 20 years and have never come across such absurditiy............. Ethnically the Jat is the same as any race in the Punjab..............geneological tests will confirm that.................I think you guys are rellying on the rantings of 19th Century Historians too much....................... 8)
