  1. It helps to improve your pentra (foot work), posture, breathing technique, improve stamina, endurance and overall flexability.

also, help improve your immune system.

but listen, instead of chatting about it, come to the classes, i promise you will feel nimbler after a few lessons. and overall have a more postive body language when in a fight (unable to telegraph moves to the oppenant).

but you dont have to do this to fight, it can also help you become more healthier and fitter.

  2. I Totally agree with what you have said. But the problem is that a lot of young youth currently are having a identity crisis, and are easily led up the garden path.

majority will grow mature and move on with their lives, others will end up depressed and insecure. The responsibilty of these consequences will lay with these so called "Community Officers", "Developement Officers", "Accountants" and "Lawyers" "Chardi kala Amritdhari Hardcore Rehitvaan Singhs" who are also "educated professionals".

Education with exposure to vast amount of knowledge and life experience is the only way i can see these misguided kids from making grave errors.

may God bless them with an openmind and the ability to understand Gurbani.

  3. "The martial art of hazara is the gatka its also a folk dance and is played in traditional hazara clothings. But now its only played in villages. Its faught with a special sword like stiff stick and a shield called (Gatka and Phumarh in Hindko)."

I think this source leads one to believe that the Gatka is actually referred to as a stick and may have some relationship to Bhangra.

but one has to remember, the present sikh martial art Shastarvidiya doesn't just belong to sikhs.

Traces of it have been found in russia i.e Hunuman Penthra. The southern Philipenes i.e Shesh Naga penthra. The sher pentra in kazakhstan.

but bear in mind, all arts are related in one way or another as every human fighter has a maximum of two arms and legs, which only move in particular angles and degrees....

  4. Just recieved this via e-mail. Its an open letter to SPAS - Sikh Parents Association.

( this organisation isn't registered and doesn't actually exist, but it sure has a nice acronym :D )

Open letter to Sikh Parents Awareness Society (SPAS)

Cc: UK Sikh organisations and the media.

    Dear sikhparent_as@yahoo.co.uk and Manmohan Singh

We are the organisers of the Sikh Student Camp (SSC) 2006.

On the evening of 5th August, 2006, one of the camp organisers found a large amount of flyers in Gurdwara Sri Damesh Durbar, Rosebury Avenue, London. We have tried to contact Manmohan Singh and SPAS on the telephone number given on the flyer, but our numerous calls were unanswered.

Yesterday we were forwarded an email dated 7th August, 2006, which originated from SPAS's apparent email address ( sikhparent_as@yahoo.co.uk) to which the flyer was also attached.

We apologise for this means of communication and not being able to address you more specifically. This is because we do not know the registered address of SPAS or Manmohan Singh where we can send this letter. Hence we are resorting to sending this email.

This is the first opportunity we have had to discuss your flyer with you, the contents of which are of serious concern to us.

The allegations in the flyer constitute sexual and improper conduct by the SSC organisers. We vehemently abhor such behaviour and contrary to what has been said, we do not condone such behaviour in any way. If such incidents were to ever occur at the camp, our policy is to strictly discipline the individual, report them to the appropriate authorities, ban them from future camps, and forward their name to other panthic organisations.

From the flyer it is unclear which specific organiser is supposed to have carried out the alleged immoral acts, or the exact nature of the incidents and when these alleged incidents occurred.

As organisers of the camp, we are taking it upon ourselves to address and fully investigate all such allegations. We therefore ask you to supply details of when these incidents occurred and the names of the individuals involved. We understand the alleged victims may not be forthcoming. However, we take this so seriously that we would like to have this matter investigated by the police, so we ask you to provide us with full details. Any information received by us of any inappropriate behaviour will be fully investigated and reported to the police if necessary, and we therefore welcome such information of any individual whose behaviour is alleged to be inappropriate. We also have a policy to exclude any individual on whom we have received information on, about the individuals past behaviour and therefore potential behaviour. Incidents of sexual and improper conduct are taken very seriously by Sikh Student Camp and the police, regardless of who the individual is.

We the SSC 2006 organisers, categorically state that we are not aware of such incidents of sexual and improper conduct involving camp organisers occurring at the camp in the past, and have not been involved in such issues ourselves. So far all that has been provided is generalisations.

As with other camps, participants with behavioural issues have always been dealt with in accordance with our rules and regulations (available on our website) and have been disciplined as appropriate, including being barred from attending future camps. Any specific previous incidents the SSC organisers are aware off were dealt with through our discipline procedure.

We request SPAS supply full details of the alleged incidents within the next 48 hours, in order for us to adequately investigate these isolated incidents and bar any individuals from attending this year's camp and furthermore consider criminal proceedings against any such individuals.

This year's camp will not be cancelled or postponed. Our organisation believes that the youth from the Sikh community need to be given opportunities for spiritual, personal and professional development. There is an immense need for this in our community and the cancellation or postponement of this years camp would hinder such goals.

Our sources have revealed that the flyer has been circulated to the media. The content of the flyer has made serious allegations about the camp and the organisers and these allegations need to be corroborated and substantiated. Our organisation and those who have been named or implied in

the allegations will take legal advise if the allegations are repeated.

The lack of corroboration points towards the fact that these allegations are cruel, vicious and clearly an attempt by individuals to hinder our cause and hence hinder the development of Sikh youth. The media has contacted us regarding the allegations. We have requested the media not to print or publicise the contents, as this is defamatory, until these allegations have been fully investigated. For this reason also, we ask you to supply full details of the alleged incidents.

We look forward to a response and trust this matter can be concluded fruitfully without the Sikh community being ridiculed publicly.

In line with Sikh values we are taught to respect other people's sisters and daughters as our own and we work hard to enforce and promote such principles.

    Yours faithfully,

The Sikh Student Camp 2006 Team

    Who is Sikh Student?

The Sikh Student team consists of a base of 50+ volunteers largely centred in and around London. Our volunteers are current students, graduates and professionals - including teachers, lawyers, engineers, doctors, dentists, and persons serving in the army and police. Many of our volunteers are also actively engaged in seva (voluntary) for the Sikh community through other organisations, projects and local Gurudwaras.

What are the objectives of Sikh Student?

The objectives of Sikh Student are to provide opportunities for spiritual, personal and professional development of Sikh youth. In particular we look to achieve this by:

    - Teaching the basics of Sikhi in a friendly & non judgemental environment.

    - Allowing people to experience and develop their spirituality.

    - Encouraging people to think about and explore their heritage.

    - Encouraging youth to put something back into their communities

    - Providing opportunities for personal development, and informal mentoring on careers and professions

  5. Hi just_someone

sorry if you were offened, not my intention.

NO evidence has been put forward, just generalisations.

Its very easy for one to be destructive and take the community back several steps. But it takes some virtue and a lot of hard work for people to actually be constructive and help the community grow. Even when people are spitting on them.

  6. I would like to apologise, the person I named as the key culprit for organising the smear campaign is incorrect, (Mr "EDITED" is actually a police officer who supports the Sikh Student Camp :D ), his actual full name is "EDITED" ( wanna be Barrister) husband of EDITED, who live in Gravesend..

My purpose in just naming and shaming him is to make the public aware of who is responsible and who should be contacted if this campaign goes outside the law to resolve there problems.

their photos with a synopsis of there background (including reports obtained from the London Met outlining there criminal past), will be released to shame them if they resort to violence.

But I hope this is enough for them to rethink there strategy and choose a more peaceful option.

If they believe their cause to be just, they should have no reason to threaten families and the older generation.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moderator Note: Please do not mention names in your posts directly. If you have something published in news papers or evidences to support their names then post that news or evidence otherwise it is merely a act of blaming each other.

  7. To be honest,

sikh student camp shouldn't really worry about all this negative pr being created by the likes of EDITED ( wannabee lawyer, desperatly looking to make a name for himself ) from gravesend and other peeps like manvir singh the Chardi kala singh who records everything you say.

what you must remember is peeps, if one cant have his own castle at home, he will try to go elsewhere and make his fantasy castle. even by force.

I have said it before and i will say it again...these peeps need to get a social life.

they need to learn the skill of intergrating with society, and understand the meaning of chardi kala is to smile at your neighbour, not hate them...

they need to UN-twist there khachera :D

  8. I am surprised that Kulvinder didn't attack the Old men in the hall like he did at leamington Spa to teach them a lesson.

probably because he was alone, and thought twice.

whats the point of looking the part , if you aint gonna play the part....genuwinely

But its good to know he has grown up over the months and used his Niti to expose these folks instead of resorting to violence ( Rab rakha, he was on his own and no woman or child got harmed).

    _____________________________________________________

In my opinion the best option now would be to name and shame each commitee member with pictures on all the punjabi newspapers. so the whole community is aware.

also kulvinder, ubi and everyone else, if these folks do repent, give them a chance to make up for there misdeeds by doing seva.

Please Please Please do not attack the Old Babe, Ladies and childeren.

you will only damage your cause and get hurt.

a peaceful solution is the first & best option. Violence should be shunned untill after all avenues have been exhausted, and even then it should be to a minimum.

no peace has ever completly resulted from war, as history has shown.

but this is just my two pence..... you may disagree

  9. lol, why u got ur kachera in a twist...

if u wanna be serious and all, its cool...but dont be spreading the hate...that aint sikhi.

if u want a ultra strict rehat go for it.... but dont go cussing other peeps...other wise ur just as bad as them.

if u did listen to gurbani, and did chill with guruji...u would be more chardi kala..and not so insecure with ur self that u gotta cuss other peeps to have some self value.

    PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH.

maybe u should go to Boss Camp...it sounds like for your thing...

Sikh Student Camps all about diversity and giving peeps the options to choose what they want to do with there life. not force them with emotional Blackmail....

get a social life...and smile...it will change your life :D

    if your offended...its cool

  10. At the moment, it is being scheduled for next March/April.

It will have several hundred pictures, including some never before seen in the community, the book should be around 500 pages.

This is the most costly Sikh scholarly book ever to be printed to date.

So Ustadjis making sure there are no mistakes or misquotes included. But I am sure the haters will try to find them

If you do purchase a copy, read it with an open mind, you will definitely gain a greater historical understanding.

  11. on a positive. the boliyan on the vidoe smashed it.

i mean if u actually listen to the words being sung.

"3 things kill/destroy man, lies, stealing other peeps stuff, and sleeping around. "

now...whats wrong with that!!!!!!!! thats not gonna put kids of sikhi!!!

if u still got a problem.....loosen up and get a social life.

  12. The Khanda that we see today in our community isn't a 20 century design, and it hasnt really got a DIRECT link to the Ardhanarishvara.

the present symbol in a "nut shell" dates from around Pre 18 century, during the misl period.

i havent really got my notes at hand, but the symbol is from the most strongest misl...which was Maharaja Runjeet singhs.

we as sikhs have more than 1 symbol to represent us.

I have for example seen Sikh Flags with a Peacocks, Lotus, Axe & snake, Bow & Arrow and various other designs.

I am sure if u pester some of the senior lads in Nidar Singhs Akhara, or just wait a few month still his book comes out, your question will be answered in detail.

  13. Another thing to note is the changes of the pathway to darbar sahib.

from what Akali jageer singh said ( Jogas oldman) the water level was lower of sarover( dont know why) and there was no segregation of peeps coming to and fro from darbar sahib.

Anyways peeps, before we go of topic,

Baba Santa Singh is cool and he did what he did what he believed was best for the Faith.

Amrit singh u may go to the mohalla every year, but i have been a few times too. from what i have seen as a foriegner, many peeps respect baba ji. Unlike Balbir singh who many believe is just another dodgy politician, looking for is 15 minutes of fame.

to be Jathedar one needs miri and piri experience. which Baba Santa Singh Ji Has.

anyways......i'm waffling now.....so can some one else please make a constructive comment.

  14. hi,

has anybody seen the movie waterborne?

i just saw it, and was surprised to see so many sikhs in it with so much visual and audio presenation of gurbani.

i thought is was a nice movie, pretty entertaining.

I was very Proud that the Sardar pulled a Blondie......brought a tear to my eye  and then showed how much of a sher/stupid he was to step i front of a crazy gun welding drugged up gora loony

also loved the bit where he woes the blondie of her feet by showing his hair to her.....i guess that was better than any cheesy chat up line. :)

i would like to know if you guys who have seen it have any thoughts on the message of the movie...

and if you havnt seen it...go out and watch it...and then let me know what you think....

  15. lol

lads....dont wanna blow my our trumpet...

but us lads in blue have never had the problem..

be the hunter, hunt the girl....woe her of her feet...be nice and genuwine to her...

and watch...regardless of her being indian, green, purple or black....she'll definatly wanna be with u....

Dynamic Banda and Beast....please do share ur thoughts 8)

but yo singh...dont fret...maybe the one brow could be holding u bac...but all u gotta do is lower the laar and pull some sexy manly bhangra moves...hahaha....

  16. yo thani

why u adding more salt to the wounds....

the only reason my fuaj couldnt stop the elephants was cause i was being attacked by 3 different armies from 3 directions....

but i did half the size of the elephant fauj before u intervened...... anyways it was a good weekend spent...... I'm Still Recovering.

also I would just like to say..*Shot Gun *... i would like to be ur first volunteer to test the game out before it's realeased..... Just so i can whoop ur ass in ur own game :)

    anyways.....take care......and c u around

  17. HI,

I agree to some point to what you are saying, but bear in mind, the current state of the panth didnt happen over night, it slowly evolved, prior to the anglo sikh wars.

also the system you some what have described is very similar to the one that Budha dal follows, one which was set up by Guru Gobind Singh/ Gur Hargobind .

in some ways, the jathedars of each takht ( fifth being Bhuda Dal) are the panj piare...only 1 being chosen from selection, whilst the remainder elected via democracy.

another point one may need to note is on a social level, as the sikhs migrate to other countries and develop there own independent communities from punjab. Should they or shouldnt they select there own panj piare from there own community.

and i guess the same would apply to sikh communities which are created independently, from the preachings of sikh missionaries world wide( e.g Harbhajan singh yogi).

the point you have raised is very true, but not so black and white as you are presenting it as.

also another quick point, selection of panj piare shouldn't soley be based on memorization of bani, there contribution to the community in the form of seva should also be noted as well as there experience and understanding of this fast evolving world ...... they should also to an extent know the bania of other religions and know niti of kautliya and etal.

we need to have world class leaders and not some illiterate individuals.

one fine example i can think of is, Akali Baba Surjit Singh of Bhuda Dal, who will be the next jathedar of the Dal panth after Akali Baba Santa Singh. he can speak several languages, Knows allmost ALL!! bania ( including islamis, hindu, western philosophy texts.) and my most favorite..he has a military back ground..which is a very good foundation to have as a good leader...

... any ways this is just my two cences.....take it on board or leave it..its up to you.

  18. How did the sgpc nominate a jathedar in the past?

Do we as sikhs follow/accept democracy? If so, who introduced this philosophy to the Sikh community.

And singh47 I guess your question can also be implied to the taksal jathedars too or to any so called leader. They are human, and they may make choices, which not everyone accepts.

For example Baba thakur singh said that Sant Jarnail singh was gonna come back and retake his role as jathedar of taksal, some groups of sikhs are still waiting, even after having a new jathedar has come into power,

Another example could be Banda Singh Bahader who towards the end of his military and spiritual life actually became a Tankhaiya but was forgiven towards the end of his life.

Babber Khalsa exleader Sukhdev singh had a ghar wali, and a bhar wali who ordered kills which resulted in many innocent people dying ( one would consider him a thankaiya) but he is still considered a shaheed? Have I got it wrong or is the sikh community messed up?

What I am trying to say is, with so many divisions in the community, realistically could we ever place a person in the role of the Akaal Takht Jathedar who could please everyone, or be accepted by everyone.

Do we want a Blair/Bush/Ayat Allah Ali Khamenei (Iran’s Supreme Spritual Leader)/ Dai Lama sort of person……

Or are we happy with Vedanti?

I would also like to state, that in my opinion the Budha Dal Jathedar is the true Jathedar if one accepts the infrastructure set up by Guru Gobind Singh,

But if one accepts Vedanti, what that means is one is actually accepting a democratic infrastructure setup by the British Empire which was set up less than 100 years ago (correct me if I am wrong) who reports to the prime minister of India, who is based in Delhi? Can any one see the problem here.

From what I can see, this confusion that seems to have been adopted by the Sikh community, actually dwells from the lack of Tolerance that one gets from spirituality and diverse Education… what we actually get nowadays is a lot of fronting by certain leaders with no productive leadership to improve any serious problem.

I seem to be waffling on here (got no work in the office) so I’ll stop before I get ahead of my self.

Just my 2 cents…if I confused u or your offended by what I said…no worries just chill and get a social life…I’m just expressing my opinion. :)

  19. No problem,

I will look through my family pics, and network a little. how ever i do know a few individuals who collect photographs and paintings from north india. i will ask them and let you know what i come up with.

plus, i know its a long shot, but have you considered contacting the maharaja duleep fund organisation, boss ( The Sikh Student Organisation might be more approachable and helpfull) or any of the udasi's and nirmale in the UK, for some support.

  20. Akali...

its good..but remeber what you were told last time...its to soft,

clean cut...mr DD needs to look more worn n torn....

did you ever get all them books u were hunting for, did the one's i gave u ever help???

punjabi/ south asian style is different from U.S. and Japenese/chinese style.

try to be a bit like jim lee, mcfarlane, Kirby ...create you own style.

dont take what i say to heart, its just some constructuve criticism....

but i have to say u have come a long way from your previous gay stuf :)f

  21. My Family usues Sandelwood. ...my mum gets a whole bunch in apaste form from india....but its not cheap.

you could try visiting a mandir, some actually sell fresh toof for a certain price ( its usually used for prays at a particular idol in the mandir by a follower). I'm sure the pandit wont mind if you asked for some.

Also i personally use lemon scented ones...as i have been told its good for the mind.

plus if you really wanna a connection, u can always use scented bhang toof. :)
