  2. VJKK VJKF I heard the following sakhi at a camp over the summer. Can anyone tell me is this a version of Satta and Balwand or is this a completely different sakhi? During Guru Raam Daas Ji's time, there was a sikh (or group of sikhs) who asked Guru ji for money when they did keertan. Guru Ji promised them one coin for every Sikh. After the divan, Guru Ji gave them 3 and a half coins and explained that there had only been three and a half proper (pooran) gursikhs up until that time - Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Angad dev Ji , Guru Amar dass Ji and that Guru Raam Daas Ji himself was only half a Gursikh. When asked why, he replied that although he had followed Sikhi up till this point, he may falter any time soon, so he could not be complete until his Joti Jot. pleas forgive any mistakes in this sakhi - my memory is not very good   VJKK VJKF
  3. VJKK VJKF yeah, i understand wat u mean when u say that u get angry when ppl lie. i'm not justifing lying but i'v noticed that sum ppl li because they're scared that if they tell the truth, the otha person will get more angry. i don't know u at all, so maybe that 's not the case but i have seen that around. (even with "sikhs" :? ) krodh is one of the Panj chor - the reason it's called a chor is because it just suddenly creeps up on u without warning!! 2 counteract it on our own, we've gotta be very resourceful - but Guru Ji's given us the remedy of Simran 2 make it easier. if uv not read the article in the inspiration section on Malcolm X, then it's a good one 2 read. sorry if iv sed nething 2 upset u - i get angry easily myself!!!:x
  4. Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru simran al the way is the answer 2 stress! life's too short to worry. think abt what ur stressed abt - if u left this earth 2day, would that really matter? Sorry 4 being so blunt confuzed abt wat? u might find ur answer here (4m al these ppl who seem 2 know soo much Gurbani - not me but............) Guru Ji gives answers 2 al our problems and qns in SGGS - so read it and see wat u find!! keep faith - evrything happens 4 a reason - even if we don't realise it at the time....... Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru Vaheguru
  5. VJKK VJKF well. if its any help, i know exactly how u feel!!!!!!!! but what helps me (at least sumtimes) is to look at whatever (or whoever!) i'm angry at and think "well Guru Ji's inside them and am i really angry with Guru Ji?" hopefully, the answer 2 that qn is no  then do ardaas (and that always works!!!) but as was said b4, if u can talk 2 sum1 (either here on the forum, or sum1 u know and trust) that helps 2. i hope u can make sense of sum of this and don't angry with me please VJKK VJKF
  6. VJKK VJKF Hey Bhenji No khalsa singhni is stupid!!!!!! Guru Ji is just testing u - keep faith in Guru Ji and evrything will sort itself out. trust me - keep doing simranand ul be fine. if ur doing sciencey stuff, then let me know and i'll try 2 help when and if i can!!! Keep faith VJKK VJKF
  7. VJKK VJKF Bhenji i can certainly sympathise with u (having been going thru a similar experience lately)!!!! My parents wont let either my sis or I go 2 Gurdwara coz they say that the ppl their (many of whom hav just cum into Sikhi) are "not fit to associate with" :x now i would understand if the ppl totally disagreed with basic sikhi priciples, but the fact is that we're all trying to get closer to sikhi in our individual ways - Guru Ji blesses sum more than others. uv gotta keep ur sikhi strong and trust in Guru Ji (don't do what i tried and let it get 2 u and then think of stupid things like suicide!!) Guru ji tests us al the time but that's only coz he wants us to pass and be stronger in our faith. i know it's hard (trust me i'v been ther) but plz Bhenji, keep faith. al we can do is Simran and leave the rest up to Guru Ji i'm not fit 2 give anybody advice, but i do know that doing more Path, and simran really helped me i hope this works out VAHEGURU VAHEGURU VAHEGURU VAHEGURU
  8. VJKK VJKF man u guys just crack me up!!!
  9. VJKK VJKF what does SGGS say about suicide- i mean sometimes u get soo down and you feel that life's just not worth living any more. you are stopped from seeing sangat and Guru ji and you feel that you just ca'nt keep going. You've been so bad and nasty to so many people and you ca't live with yourself any more - is suicide justified? Plz answer asap
  10. VJKK VJKF Yes please keep posting, I get so much inspiration from these little stories you put up - it really helps me think about how i'm leading my own life - not Gursikh at all. Please keep posting VJKK VJKF

  13. 16.8 At The End Of A Rope Once upon a time, a travelling fair come to a village. All the village children went running to see it. The village simpleton too was highly excited. But the village simpleton had been told that it is easy to get lost at fairs, so he was quite scared to go to one. But he desperately wanted to go. So he decided to consult one of the village elders. The elder knew that there was no chance for the simpleton to get lost. So he pretended to think for a while and said, "I will show a way of not getting lost." The elder then put a short rope around the village simpleton's neck (not much unlike a necktie) and said, "Whenever you feel lost, just pull at the rope. You will always be at the end of the rope." The village simpleton tried it a few times and sure enough, he was always at the end of the rope. So he joyfully clapped his hands and joyfully went to the fair. The simpleton walked around the fair feeling good. Whenever he felt that he was getting lost in the crowds, he would pull at the rope around his neck and say, "Aha, here I am." And would continue feeling good. A village joker was also at the fair and was, as usual, was on alert to play jokes. (Not unlike the fool who is writing this story). When he saw the village simpleton, his heart leapt in joy and an an-had vaja of "Bingo!" came from within him. He asked the simpleton about the rope. The village simpleton joyfully told him. The village joker joyfully listened. It was afternoon by that time. And everybody in India takes a short nap in the afternoon! So the village simpleton found a nice shady spot and dozed off. Of course, the village joker did not - this was work time for him! The village joker quietly stole up the village simpleton and carefully removed the rope. Then he went to a nearby sleeping man and carefully put the rope around his neck. Quite satisfied with his work, he retired to a corner. As soon as the village simpleton woke up, he felt for his rope and, of course, it was gone. The village simpleton started running around in quite a panic, shouting, "I am lost! I am lost!" Then he came up to the still dozing man. The village simpleton gave a cry of joy and pulled at the rope. The rudely awakened village ooongey was naturally quite cross and said, "##@@@###" (if you want to know what "##@@@###" is, send a note stating that you are over 21 years of age). The village simpleton explained, "The village elder told me that I will be always at the end of the rope. Therefore, I am you. I amyou." "OK, OK, Bhenji, WHAT has this post got to do with Naam? Now, now, my beloved friends, allow me to explain. You see, the village simpleton is our soul, the village joker is Maya and village sleeping man is our body. "And who are you? Giani Zial Singh?" Maya (also known as the illusion queen) has played a trick on us. She has removed the rope of consciousness from our soul and put it around our body. Therefore we think we are the body. We spend a major portion of our lives in beautifying our body and protecting it from death. Whenever our body feels ill, we feel depressed too. Whenever someone says, "Babe, you look mighty fine today," our ego inflates at an exponential rate. We never experience our real selves - our soul. But there is hope, and naam is it. So let us Jap it with our hearts and soon we will see ourselves. 16.9 Three Holy Men Bhai Blissful Singh jee, Bhai Wonderful Singh jee and Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee were three gursikhs. Once they were discussing dasvand (a tenth of Sikhs earnings offered to the Guru) and Bhai Blissful Singh jee said, "I don't like counting money at all. So taking out dasvand was a hassle for me, until I discovered a very nice way to share the money with guru jee." Bhai Wonderful Singh jee said, "waheguru waheguru - And what - waheguru waheguru - might that -waheguru - be, pyare - waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru - Blissful Singh jee?" "I just draw a star shape on the floor. Its radius is of 10 inches. Then I stand 10 inches away from the star and throw all the money towards it. The money that lands inside the star is the guru and the rest is mine." Bhai Wonderful Singh jee said, "Wonderful - wahe wahe wahe wahe... - idea. Actually, great minds -waheguru waheguru - think alike. I too do the same, except I draw a circle of 10 inches - waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru". Saying that both of them starting crying out of love for waheguru. After their tears had dried up, they both looked at Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee. Now, Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee was a curious holy man. They had never seen him actually sitting down for simran - although, he would talk about Naam all the time and would make up naam-related stories on the spot. When asked why he was always sleeping during amrit vela, he would roll his eyes up and reply, "O Saints, my spiritual state is such that sleep and simran are same to me. I do simran in sleep and sleep in simran." Being quite intoxicated in naam, both Bhai Blissful Singh jee and Bhai Wonderful Singh jee would nod their heads and do more "waheguru waheguru..." When Bhai Is-he-a Singh was asked why he watched TV so much, he would again roll his eyes and say, "O Beloved ones, I see waheguru in all. TV allows me to see many wahegurus at the same time." On the question on why the TV show "Bay Watch" was his favourite show, he would say, "O saints, waheguru is in each grain of sand. In "Bay Watch" I see millions of waheguru all at once." (For those of us who are innocent, "Bay Watch" is a TV show in which people run around on the beach). Anyways, asked about dasvand, Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee replied, "Sikho, I just throw all my money in the air. The amount that the guru wants, the guru keeps. The rest he throws right back." Waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru... Presenting the sequel to 3 holy men... untold thanks to saakhi jee for *inspiration*... our story unfolds... You will remember the village joker from the previous story about the simpleton and the rope... Well happens this same joker over heard Bhai Blissful Singh jee, Bhai Wonderful Singh jee and Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee talking about the various ways of sharing money with guru ji... He stepped right up and introduced himself... "Waheguru waheguru - I’m Giani so-n-so Singh from sach-n-sach Gurudwara sahib... I couldn't over help hearing your intriguing stories... *I didn't understand the last paragraph??? Huh* could you possibly explain exactly what it is you do and illustrate how it is guru keeps the money." Flattered Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee carefully explained again "Sikho, I just throw all my money in the air. The amount that the guru wants, the guru keeps. The rest he throws right back." "Hmmmm Giani so-n-so rubbed his beard thoughtfully and does it matter by which method guru ji collects his money while it is in the air?" Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee replied magnanimously “Singho wahe guru is unlimited and unfathomable there could be any myriad of ways he chooses to keep whatever hee wants, what's important is however much he throws back lands on the floor and is mine to keep." I see murmured Giani so-n-so, well do you suppose you could illustrate exactly how this is done, I might just like to try this method my self sometime." "Of course I would be happy to show" you agreed Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee reaching deep into his pockets and pulling out an assortment of bills and coins." The village joker reached deep into his own pockets and just as the money was tossed very high in the air he pulled out a large kerchief quick-as-a-wink spread it open wide and ran around catching the bills and coins and they fell back towards the floor. "Clink" a single coin hit the floor. Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee stood looking stunned with his mouth open un-able to say anything... "waheguru waheguru" prompted the village joker-aka genii so-n-so giving him wink and a smile humming "waheguru waheguru" under his breath while quickly strolling off with his kerchief stuffed full before Bhai Is-he-a Singh jee could come to his senses.... "Thank you guru ji, this will come in quite handy managing the affairs of sach-n-sach Gurdwara sahib"... waheguru waheguru waheguru waheguru....
  14. VJKK VJKF I got this as an e-mail attachment - I was so shocked and saddened. We've gotta do something to get back the love in Sikhi KIDS AND THE FOUR LETTER WORD HS Lakhan, 7 Oct 2003 A terrible thing happened today. Its every parent's fear. We try and protect the souls God has put into our care. We eagerly await the day when they say their first word. We equally dread the day they will say the four letter word. We are careful of the friends they make, we only allow them to watch safe children's TV. But today, the little one who's only 18 months old said the four letter word. She's only just begun saying words and to learn that one so soon was a bit of a shock. I think she got it from her three old sister. She was sitting in her buggy holding a packet a mini biscuits, just munching away. I reached forward and asked for one. She clenched the packet with her fist and pulled it towards her chest. Screwing her face up worried I would take it away, she said the four letter word.. "MINE!" Gone are the days when she gave everything away just as easily as she had received it. Now she'll spend the rest of her life, like the rest of us involved in attachment to our possessions. Guru Nanak Maharaj explains that : 'Crying out "Mine! Mine!" they have departed, but their bodies , their wealth and their wives did not go with them. Without the Name, wealth is useless; deceived by wealth they have lost their way. So serve the True Lord; become Gurmukh and speak of the Undescribable Lord. 6.' (SGGS 59) We pray that with the SatGuru's kindness we all will spend the remaining part of our life getting back to the way we all were as a baby - receiving and giving without the sense of MINE....the way a Gurmukh is. "Kabeer, nothing is mine within myself. Whatever there is, is Yours, O Lord. If I surrender to You what is already Yours, what does it cost me? ||203||" (SGGS 1375)
  15. VJKK VJKF I don't actually know if this can be called an "inspiring story" but I'm sure the Mods'll delete it if its not I was helping out at a camp in South Shields over the summer  and we were trying to focus on Naam and the power you get from Naam. Well, at the end of the day, a 6 yr old Singh said to a 4 yr old "I'm gonna be a monster and frighten you" The girl thought for a while and then said, with her hands on her hips "well monsters are scared of Vaheguru, so VAHEGURU." She then stomped off in an apparent huff!! (i guess she just didn't want to play). It's a true story by the way and I think we can all learn something from it VJKK VJKF
