*Siri Gur Katha*

Bhai Jaita Ji’s name shines in the Sikh history like a koh-i-noor diamond.

He made a great sacrifice for the panth. It was only him who brought ‘Sees’

of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji from Delhi. It was him who fought numerous battles

in Guru Sahib’s army and gave shaheedi at Chamkaur Sahib. He was not only a

great gursikh but also a great poet and writer. He wrote Siri Gur Katha

granth which remained hidden from the panth until recently. Even today most

of the Sikhs are unaware of its existence. Bhai Sahib wrote much more but it

is believed that due to wars and persecution it was lost. What remained

stayed in the family of a gursikh.

Luckily, what remained is perhaps the most crucial information Sikhs need

today. In the document Siri Gur Katha Bhai Sahib wrote eye witness accounts

of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Shaheedi, description of Guru Gobind Singh Ji,

account of wars, and most importantly first Amrit Sanchaar. It also

highlights rehat kurehat and some very fundamental beliefs of Gurmat which

many of the Sikhs today hesitate to accept. I am not writing anything on my

own (although it affirmed many of my beliefs) but I will post what it

states. The purpose is for the readers to be aware of this and study it on

their own. I am not trying to start any controversial topic or debate.

Accepting it or rejecting it is the decision of the reader. I won’t post

everything written in it but following is what I understood from the text.

Here is some of what is written by Bhai Sahib:

1) There is no one equal to Guru Sahib throughout ages. Following Gurmat

will bring muktee.

2) “Waheguru†is gurmantar. A Sikh should always recite it.

3) Sikhs are not to lie, slander, eat tobacco, eat kuttha, smoke, drink,

commit adultery, and follow brahmanical rituals.

4) Piercing is forbidden.

5) Always remember Waheguru and be prepared to fight Dharam Yudh.

6) Help everyone who comes to you.

7) Realize that everyone is the child of Waheguru. Reject caste system.

8) Always wear Shastars without which one is a jackal.

9) Never cut or trim hair.

10) Always greet everyone with Fateh.

11) Do not wear “Laal Sooha†and “Nasvaar†clothes.

12) Always do sangat of Gursikhs. Do not intermingle with patits.

13) Worship only Akal Purakh.

14) Always eat the food prepared by Amritdharis.

15) Accept everything as will of Waheguru.

16) Five Kakkars are Kes, Kangha, Kara, Kirpan and Kachera.

17) Always wear dastaar on the head.

Much more is written on rehat but these are enough points. Amrit Sanchaar is

perhaps the most important of all. Bhai Sahib writes that Guru Sahib took

five heads, dead became alive, five banis were recited etc. Here are exact

quotes:

1) Sikhs became alive which is the miracle of Guru Sahib.

You know I have questioned these people before on these so called eyewitness accounts, and as yet, I cannot find any sources.

Instead I recieved hostility at Sikhsangat.

Sikh History from Perssian Sources Irfan Habib and grewal and Vaaran Bhai Gurdas is the closest I have come.

You did not ask a single question on this topic and your inability to find any sources is your own fault. Siri Gur Katha is an accepted source and has been published.

Thanks to Singh2 and Bijla SIngh for sharing this with the sangat. This confirms the five banis that we currently read at Amrit Samagams is the same read in 1699.

Japji Sahib

Jaap Sahib

Svaiya

Choupi

Anand Sahib.

It also confirms what our Gurmantar is.

Sikhs have gone through a difficult period for their very survival. They had to abandon their homes and hearth

. Their literature was looted after sack of Anandpur sahib. But so called scholars of today do not

realize this when they put funny questions. Their questioning does not take into consideration the horrible cirumstances

of that period.

err no Bijla Singh.

There was another discussion about this on sikh-akj-sangat.com years ago, and when I asked what academics had confirmed its authenticity I received a torrent of abuse.

I think what I ask is a fair question given as their are so many mischief makers out there.

If you have sources, then post them (especially English ones).

There is a lot of chaff out there including very pro-Brahmanical stuff that RSSVHP refer to as being written by the Guru's. That is the problem we have.

The question I ask is not unreasonable for a reasonable person that is. I can see how the unreasonable may see it as a threat however. :P

Give us an example what you think is brahminical. Mere generalization does not help.

You have mentioned RSSVHP. Sikhs are not foolish as not to understand their designs.

I posted the topic last year so I do not know if any discussion took place on the same topic on ss.com. It could be another source. I am not a scholar who has the authority to claim a source to be authentic. Prof. Gurmukh Singh verified the authenticity of Sri Gur Katha and published it around 1992. Two more sources I know about are Soochak Parsang Guru Ka written by Bhai Behlo Ji and second Baba Binod Singh's Granth. Both of these were verified by Dr. Trilochan Singh and were referenced in his book Jeevan Chrittar Guru Nanak Dev Ji. I do not know if these can be found in English. Much of our history has not been translated and most of it is still waiting to be studied and published. Sources that have been published are only tip of the iceberg. On a side note, I did not find any "brahmanvaad" in Sri Gur Katha when I read it. This is the only source that gives details of physical description of Guru Sahib, shaheedi of Guru Sahib, how Amrit was prepared, how it was given and which Banis were recited. The granth calls Gurmat the true path and Guru Sahib the greatest of all (not vishnu avtar). Its language greatly resembles Dasam Granth's language and kabits are written in birrass and words from Dasam Granth are used i.e. ਜੈ ਤੇਗੰ ਜੈ ਤੇਗੰ ਗਾਇਓ. When I have time I will post some valueable information from it.

You have hit a massive problem we have in Sikhi.

We are only beginning to tackle it, and that is verifiability. Chadigarh Uni has some interesting projects in this area.

Until we have solid verifiability of all our gems, people like Mcleod will manipulate it eg Jats taught our Guru's how to fight. <<<<strongest argument against this is Varan Bhai Gurdas.

In Gur Katha wasn't their some dispute about Guruji worshipping Durga. I am sure I read that some where.

Please do post. I am off to India soon and I will check with my contacts again for copies.
