Bir Ras Kirtan Thread

Recommended Posts

As suggested in the title, a thread to place all of the bir ras kirtan you have heard. Anything Sikhi related whether classical gurmat sangeet, dhadi, newer English music is all game.

My offering is Bhai Balbir Singh Hazoori Ragi's kirtan (including his Chandi di Var in raag):

The real deal.

When Bhai Balbir Singh and his (now deceased) Nihang brother did kirtan - they used to rock!

Here is a bread and butter meditation for the battlefield - Keertan from Chandi Charitar:

The sounds of the blows of the daggers and swords are being heard.

The sounds of the shafts and gunshots are being heard.

Various sounds of musical instruments are resounding.

The warriors are roaring and shouting loudly.35.112.

The great heroes have been struck.

And the brave fighters are belching.36.113.

The warriors seem pleased on shooting sharp arrows on the bodies.

There are loud shouts with profound resounding, and the poets describe them in their verses.37.114.

The demons are running away and the heroes are shouting loudly.

The demons are running away and the heroes are shouting loudly.

The sounds are produced by the striking axes and daggers.

The arrows and the guns are creating their own noses.38.115.

The loud noise of drums and the resounding of conches and trumpets is being heard in the battlefield.

The musical instruments of the warriors are being played and the ghosts and goblins are dancing.39.116.

The noises of the arrows and shafts, daggers and swords are being heard.

The music of the musical instruments and the drumming of the trumpets resounds and the warriors and chieftains are doing their job amidst such resonance.40.117.

The conches, clarionets and the drums resounded.

The trumpets and musical instruments produced their sounds and alongwith their resonance, the warriors thundered.41.118.

I think Bhai Sahib says its Ithihaasik, written by one of the bvanja Kavis who was from the Jaipur Gharana (Rajasthan).

It may recorded be in one of the Ithihaasik granths i.e. Gurbilas P10 or Suraj Prakash etc.

It tells of how Guru Gobind Singh enter the battlefield - like the thunderous sounds of lightening from black clouds - in the sounds of your Ranjit Nagara...
